CHAPTER ONE

( STYX KRONIŌN )

ONE: WHY DO I FEEL LIKE THIS?

"this is the salvatore school, we'll stay here" heracles said with a large grin as he widened his arms out in front of the girl. their bear feet beginning to burn as they touched the sun kissed grounds of the school.

"get me inside, i think i might die from the amount of heat" she grumbled as she stared up at the ball of fire that she could only associate with the fool icarus. he was a sort of legend amongst the greeks.

"yes, of course" he rushed as he finally spanned out of his trance. his large hands motioned for the girl to follow behind him as he ran forward for the big door that looked shut. with a push of his finger it opened and all the students inside looked at the two with wide eyes.

they were a literals demi- god and goddess but none of the children had that knowledge yet. to them they were just a big blonde guy dressed in metal that had a nice jawline and a pretty brunette that wore more black than the addams family.

"uhm, excuse me?" dorian asked approaching the two students with curious eyes and a cautious hand out to the kids behind him. not wanting them to be harmed.

"ah! hello. i am heracles and this is styx. we are from mount olympus and hades. i believe i spoke to alaric saltzman about our attendance here" the boy spoke as he tried to rake through his mind all the information he had collected those past few days.

dorians smile shrunk but stayed visible none the less, knowing the children weren't dangerous. he would just have to talk to ric about who they were and why they were there.

"follow me" he said with a small smile as she began walking towards his office, not wanting to bring them to headmaster vardemus, considering he didn't trust the man anyway.

――――

"so, what are your guys' abilities?" dorian asked as he sat down in his chair positioned across the two teenagers. the boy held a large grin as he sat straight in his chair. the girl however sat back slouched playing with a small ball of black dust in her hand.

"i am a demi- god. and she is a goddess" heracles whispered the last part to the man, knowing how she hated the title and preferred being called a demon. considering that was how everyone liked to treat her.

"styx. goddess of misery, hatred and darkness" dorian recalled to himself as he thought he had read something of the girl before. the look she shot the man made him nod in agreement with himself.

"can you tell me where im staying, so i can get away from this imbecile" styx asked sitting forward so she could now look dorian in the eye. she caught the offended look heracles gave her but ignored it like she always did.

"uhm, yes. we have a spare room. no guarantees you won't have a roommate in the future but for now, all yours." dorian said standing up, the girl copying his actions before he handed her a paper or rather schedule of her lessons.

she softly grabbed it, not handing out any thanks before leaving the room with a small eye roll. the soles of her feet began to ache as she walked along the halls of the salvatore school, she had never worried about this problem back in hades considering she had grown up walking on the rough ground, but her body wasn't reacting well in the new environment.

dorian turned his head to the demi- god in front of him with slightly wide eyes before shrugging his shoulders sitting back. getting ready to hand heracles his schedule. he thought nothing bad of the girl yet, considering he knew what she was known around for and didn't expect any different from her.

"she is nice, when you get to know her" heracles defended his 'friend' as he leaned forward taking his schedule with a thank you. dorian raised an eyebrow before letting out a sigh.

"she saved my life once, whether she'd like to admit it or not. she's only this way because she been alone for a long time" he said standing up with a straight face. he knew not many people liked her but he didn't like the way they thought of her.

"it's okay, kid. i get it" dorian said standing up from his seat walking over to the door for him to follow out. he would need to go an update vardemus on the kids arrival considering it was alaric they set it up with.

――――

styx stood in her room, the walls had nothing on them and her bed sheets were a plain white with matching curtains. nowhere near her style but she decided to keep it, at least make people think of her normal. the large mirror in front of her showed off her checkered black and red skirt and black polo with a red s for salvatore over her right breast. she didn't mind the uniform, mainly because she wore all black today but the shoes she hated with a passion.

they were black wedge heels and were so constricting and made her want to walk around bare foot around hades again. her toes nearly touched the tip of the shoe and she couldn't stretch her toes around. her usual raven locks had contracted a sort of blonde highlight in random areas which made her look angelic in a light. the girl tied her hair up in a ponytail deciding she would deal with the colour at a later time.

she mentally prepared herself knowing that being on earth, and not in hell would mess with her emotions and appearance. she may feel things she's never felt before and she may act in ways she never had. she may feel sympathy, love, pain.

she had a day off today and didn't know what to do, she had no friends and didn't intend on making any. she could've gone to speak to heracles but didn't necessarily like the boy. but considering he was the only person she knew, he was the best option.

as she walked around the halls of the salvatore school, small smiles were sent her way from random students her age and younger ones. she decided to not make eye contact with them not knowing what to do in response. she had never once smiled in her life and wouldn't know how the facial effect would look on her. she had finally rounded a corner finding heracles sat in front of the fire with a few girls surrounding the boy and a few boys behind him throwing a football.

the raven haired girl rolled her eyes as she watched his arrogance, she knew this was a trait of any god and couldn't lie and say she wasn't a fool herself. she wold never admit it though, his nagging and persistence to be the girls friends pissing her off to the point she couldn't stand him. although she walked over to the spare spot on the couch next to his and sat down not saying a word. all the girls on the chairs turned to her and gave her dirty looks.

"styx! did you know they had a gym here?" heracles asked sitting forward making the girls leaning on his shoulders be pushed back abruptly. it was if when he spoke to the girl every other person didn't matter.

"oh, wonderful! a place for you to lose the remaining brain cells that you somehow still have" she said sarcastically as she watched the smile drop from his face as he sat back. she never once felt bad for the way she treated the boy because she knew he had grown rough due to her teasing and harsh words.

maybe once in a while she would feel something inside of her telling her she was too mean and she should apologise, but she'd push the thought away as a stupid notion never to be thought of again.

"not like you have any" some random girl uttered from next to heracles, although the room was quiet at the previous words shared between the two 'friends' anyway. styx heard and turned to the girl rottenly quick.

she thought a simple hex in her mind and the girl started bleeding out of her nose and ears, before the droplets hit her hand and she left her seat. two or three of the other girls following after to check on her. all of them giving styx scared looks.

"no black magic here" heracles whispered harshly as he grabbed the girls wrist dragging her to the corner of the room. she ripped her arm away quickly not liking the contact. this was the strange thing about styx.

she craved the touch of others so much she had made spells to herself to sometimes feel held, but when people gave it to her willingly she was quick to abandon the feeling. it feeling foreign when it was by real people. it was as though she was scared that it would burn her.

"she called me stupid, why would i allow that?" she asked as a orange tint began to overtake her black iris'. heracles noticed this and needed to calm her down before she did something irrational.

"and you're the farthest thing from it, i understand. but mortals, they're reckless with words" he comforted her to the best of his ability without touching her. the boys words slightly made styx agree before groaning and storming away from the boy.

――――

the girl had managed to find an abandoned mill, she had previously seen a blonde leave looking angry. the surges that were radiating off the blonde had made styx feel more powered after her little outburst earlier.

she sat on the table the blonde had just been working on she guessed as she looked over the papers that were spread out. it was only then that she felt a presence behind her causing her to turn slowly to be faced with a boy.

the boy was pretty she'd admit to no one, his green eyes were captivating and she was sure that zeus must've spent his time on this one. he looked lost as he looked around the place. she guessed she wasn't a student

"what is this place?" he asked walking forward but keeping his eyes stuck to the ground as he looked at all the weird conjunctions scrambled around.

"the mill, i'm pretty sure i heard someone say" she answered his questions, she wasn't too blunt with the boy but enough to make him know she didn't want to be friends.

"what's your name? you don't look like a student" she observed as he suddenly shot his head in her direction, the last sentence left him stunned.

"this is a school of some kind?" he questioned as his eyes only kept growing in amazement at the place around him. her guess was vampire considering the old clothes he wore.

"the salvatore school for the gifted" she said as she found herself beginning to play with her nails, not knowing what else to do.

"i see" was all he said making the girl become uncomfortable, he may not have found the atmosphere awkward but she did.

"you're obviously not a student, so who are you?" she asked, but the boy had seemed to lost his footing and swayed into a pillar holding himself up. she didn't say anything as she slowly began making her way towards him.

"i'm fine. yo- you should keep your distance" he said pushing a cautious hand out in front of him.

"if i wanted to hurt you, i would by now" she laughed emotionlessly as she still continued progressing towards the boy without him noticing.

"that's not what im afraid of. i'm sorry i-uh should go" he apologised as he finally deicded to make eye contact with styx. he had begun to make his way back to the exit before being stopped by her voice.

"wait- what's you name?" she asked intrigued. she didn't know why she had taken such an interest in this boy, but she couldn't help herself.

"sebastian" he said in an accent she realised, as he maintained eye contact with the girl.

"i'm styx" she said as she stood in her spot, not moving an inch. but she felt her fingers start to move when he began to smile.

"it's good to meet you... goddess" he said smiling as he outlined her face with his eyes

the girl rose a eyebrow as she looked at him, she would usually lash out if anyone called her a goddess. but she decided to just take a different approach.

"prefer the term demon" she thought out loud as she stared at the male tilting her head with a mischievous smirk.

"goddess, suits you more" he said thinking quickly as he looked around the room before making his way back to her face. he said nothing else as he walked out of the room and disappeared.

the girl felt like she had been pulled out of a trance as she finally had time to catch her breath, her hand hitting her chest so she could finally realise she was still on earth, in the mill. a small tug hit the side of her lip causing the girl to quickly teleport herself out of the mill to her room.

――――

styx had left the school in need of a different environment, that's what had brought her to the park of mystic falls. she stood behind a tree as she listened in on the conversation of two teenagers. she could feel the magic radiating off them both and could also hear the pain tearing through the girls voice slowly.

she felt the few hours that she had spent on earth were changing her, she willingly had a conversation with a vampire and was beginning to feel bad for the girl as the boy started to walk away from her. she could hear the little sniffles leaving the girls mouth before she decided to make herself known.

"no boy is ever worth crying over" she spoke as she began to approach the girl, the strawberry- blondes head instantly shot up and her hands went to wipe the falling tears quickly.

"not a boy" she laughed as her voice slightly cracked, indicating she was lying.

"you have too much magic in you to waste over whoever it is" styx said as she took a seat next to the girl, the blondes head snapping to her with wide eyes.

before styx could worry her anymore she created a small ball of black dust and little specks of gold in her hand to show her, she was sort of the same. she could feel hope's power and it was strong. nearly as strong as heracles.

"secrets safe with me..." styx said indicating she wanted the girls name.

"hope. hope... marshall?" hope replied, almost questioning herself and what she was telling the girl.

"we both know that's not true, hope" styx said turning so her body was facing the girl fully.

hope felt like she had shared enough with the girl who she didn't even know the name of and had stood up ready to say goodbye.

"i should get going, my p- parents will want me home" her voice cracked when she mentioned her parents, the thought of lying and saying they were still alive hurt her.

"okay hope . find me here again when you want to tell the truth" styx said also standing up so she was standing across the girl.

"goodnight, hope" she said as she turned around and began to walk in the direction of the salvatore school.

"what's you name?" hope yelled out towards the girl.

"styx" she shouted out not turning her head. she thought she'd go and tell heracles of her two latest discoveries the next morning knowing he was always asleep before 11.

it was something the girl had picked up on considering whenever he wanted to bug her he'd show up after 12 and would always be gone by 10. she thought nothing of it but saw it only as a thing she picked up on over time. although heracles saw it as a step forward in their friendship.
