Chapter 20 ~ Cas Spilled The Beans (Not Literally)
Episode: Season 5 - Free to Be You and Me
It had been awkward all week without Sam around. Dean didn't say much but I knew it hurt not having his little brother around. I crossed my arms over my chest as I stood back, watching him dab away blood on his jacket while he stood at the sink. His back was rigid and I could tell he didn't want to talk. That never stopped me before, though. A sigh escaped my mouth and I came up to stand behind him, wrapping my arms around his torso with my cheek pressed against his back. He tensed up but didn't pull away.
"Dean, look, I know that it hurts now but give it time... Sammy'll come around, you'll see," I said softly, running hand soothingly up and down his side.
Things had gotten so bad lately - Lucifer had broken out of his Cage in Hell and Bobby had gotten possessed by a demon, leaving him wheelchair-bound. We'd run into Ellen and Jo again and thankfully, they both were okay before we parted ways with them. We parted ways with Sam as well and I could tell it was eating at Dean. Of all the things that had happened - that one hit the hardest. I placed a kiss on his back through his t-shirt, feeling the warmth of his skin through the material before snuggling into his back again.
"I promise everything will-" I started to mumble, glancing up at the mirror just as Dean did.
But the mirror wasn't just our reflection because standing behind us was Cas, too. We both yelped, jumping apart before Dean glared over at him.
"Don't do that!" he snapped but it didn't seem to phase Castiel.
"Hello, Dean. Hello, Parker," he said solemnly and I nodded slightly to him before going to my suitcase to pack up the rest of my belongings.
"Cas, we've talked about this," Dean said suddenly and I turned to look at the two of them, Cas standing way too close, "Personal space,"
Cas frowned before taking a step back, "My apologies,"
"How did you find us? I thought we were flying below the angel radar," Dean grumbled, collecting his own things from around the room.
"You both are. Bobby told me where you two where," he replied.
"Where's Sam?" he asked suddenly and Dean and I turned to him.
"Me and Sam are taking separate vacations for a while," Dean answered gruffly, "Did you find God yet? More importantly, can I have my necklace back?"
"No, I haven't found him. That's why I'm here. I need your help,"
"With what, God hunt? Not interested,"
"It's not God. It's someone else," Cas said in frustration.
"Who?" Dean arched an eyebrow.
"It's an archangel. The one who killed me,"
"Excuse me?"
"His name is Raphael,"
A snort escaped my lips and Castiel turned to me with a confused expression plastered to his face.
"You were wasted by a Teenage Mutant Ninja Angel?" I guffawed and Dean shot me a silencing look.
It didn't help though, I couldn't suppress the giggles so eventually, both boys just ignored me. I tuned out the rest of the conversation as I busied myself with collecting my stuff. Once I was done, Dean informed me Cas was tagging along with us to locate Raphael's vessel. Jumping in the Impala, we all headed to Waterville, Maine. It was a long drive with Dean being interrupted fifty times by Cas who had claimed shotgun about what button did what in he car but two hours later, we arrived. Dean stopped us in front of a large, brick building that I assumed to be the Police Headquarters of the town.
I stepped out onto the sidewalk into the crisp morning air, smoothing the wrinkles out of my skirt from sitting down too long. My heels clicked on the pavement and I cursed under my breath at my toes squeezed inside them. I hated dressing up for cases!
"All right, what's the plan?" Dean asked Cas, breaking me from my thoughts as I walked to the other side of the car to join them.
"We'll tell the officer that he witnessed an angel of the Lord. Then the officer will tell us where the angel is," the angel told him simply.
"You're serious?" Dean arched an eyebrow, "You gonna walk in there and tell him the truth?"
"Why not?" he asked, dumbfounded and I almost giggled at his baffled expression.
"Because we're humans. And when humans want something really, really bad...we lie," Dean informed him, sliding a fake ID into Cas's tan trench coat.
A grin split my face as I realized how much of a baby he looked like in that trench coat as he listened to Dean's words.
"Why?" he asked again.
"Because that's how you become president," Dean shrugged.
I snickered as I brushed by them, heading towards the towering building before calling over my shoulder, "Yeah, just ask Trump."
Walking inside, we made our way to the front towards one of the police officers.
"Deputy Framingham? Hi. Alonzo Mosely, FBI," Dean said, showing him his fake badge before nodding to me and Castiel, "These are my partners, Eddie Moscone and Lydia Stilinski. Also FBI,"
The man looked over at me as I showed him my own badge before his dark eyes flitted to Cas who stared straight at him. Dean glared at him and realizing his mistake, began to pull the badge out from inside his coat. He held it out to the man after finding it and I held back a snicker as a sighing Dean helped him turn it right-side up.
"He's, uh, he's new," Dean coughed and I rolled my eyes.
"Mind if we ask you a few questions?" I smiled at the man and he nodded, leading us to his office where we took our seats.
"Yeah, sure. Talk here, though," he told us, gesturing to his right ear, "Hearing's all blown up in this one,"
"That happen recently?" Dean questioned him.
"Yeah. Gas station thing. Why you're here, isn't it?"
"Yes, it is. You mind just running us through what happened?"
"A call came in, disturbance out at the Pump 'n Go on Route 4,"
"What kind of disturbance?"
"Would not have believed my eyes if I hadn't seen it myself. We're talking a riot. Full-scale,"
"How many?" I asked and the man shrugged.
"Thirty, forty. In all-out, kill-or-be-killed combat,"
"Any idea what set them off?" Dean asked the man before being interrupted.
"It's angels and demons, probably. They're skirmishing all over the globe, "Cas suddenly blurted out and our eyes widened at him.
"Come again? What did he say?" the officer asked in confusion.
"Demons," Cas repeated just as Dean said "Nothing".
Dean tried again but Cas just repeated "Demons" once more.
"Demons," Dean tried to laugh it off, shrugging.
"You know, drink, adultery. We all have our demons, Walt. Right?" I faked a smile.
"I guess..." the man said slowly.
After we finished up talking to the officer, we all got back on the road. Cas and Dean talked on the way there but I just tuned them out. I slipped in and out of consciousness on the backseat after that, my eyes fluttering closed every now and then. Dean must've thought me asleep though because suddenly, I heard my name.
"-Parker's been really great through all of this, though. She's stuck by me on this whole thing with Sam," he admitted from the front seat, his voice low and tinged with sadness, "It's been rough for the both of us, though,"
"She is your girlfriend?" Cas asked him and Dean hummed a confirmation.
"For a whole year next month," he told him and I smiled from my position in the backseat, snuggling into Dean's jacket which had been thrown over me.
"I see. Well, I think it is very admirable of you to love a woman with a background such as that," Castiel said.
My brown eyes widened at that and I nearly bolted upright if it wasn't for my pretense of being asleep. Dean was silent in the front seat and my heart pounded in my chest when he finally spoke up.
"Cas, what are you talking about?" he asked him and I could hear the wariness in his deep voice.
But what came out of the angel's mouth next made my blood run cold. Because it was not something I had ever wanted Dean to know about me.
"Why, the fact that Parker's mother was a witch, of course. Didn't you know?"
