"Wait... The cops are after us?" Percy's voice cracked with surprise, echoing the tension in the air.

"Yeah," I affirmed, my heart pounding as I scanned the horizon for any sign of pursuit.

"Isn't that gonna make it hard for us to get on a train?"

"Or a bus? Or really anything you need tickets for?"

"Yeah, no shit," Lucky chimed in from the redhead girl's arms.

"Shut up, you furball," the son of Poseidon snapped, his voice edged with urgency.

'•.¸♡ ♡¸.•'

"Hey, guys," Percy's voice broke the silence as we trudged along the road.

"I think this quest might be harder than we thought."

"I've been doing some thinking," Percy admitted, his mind swirling with unanswered questions.

"I didn't steal the master bolt. You guys didn't steal the master bolt."

"We're pretty sure Hades has the master bolt, but he couldn't have stolen it himself."

"I mean, we don't even know who actually stole the thing, or why, or how deep this goes."

As silence hung heavy around us, Percy's realization hit us like a thunderbolt.

"I'm the last person to realize this, aren't I?"

"Yeah," I replied, my tone as cold as the  air enveloping us.

"Okay, so... maybe when we started, my head wasn't fully in this, but since the river... it all feels different."

"He saved me."

"My dad."

"I guess I just really never thought that's something he'd do for me."

"So maybe I gotta take things more seriously now."

Suddenly, the roar of a motorbike engine shattered the stillness, sending shivers down our spines.

"Car," Grover muttered, his expression etched with worry.

"That's not a car, it's a bike. Just let it pass. Come on," Annabeth urged, her voice urgent, her eyes darting nervously around.

"I'm saying, our mission isn't just about retrieving an object," Percy interjected. "We might need to play detective too."

"Yeah," I agreed softly, sensing Percy's frustration mounting.

"Why are you acting strange with me again? I thought we agreed to moved past that," Percy accused, his tone edged with confusion.

"I'm not acting strange," I replied, trying to maintain my composure.

"Yes, you are," Percy persisted, his voice growing louder.

Annabeth swiftly intervened, redirecting the conversation. "I saw the Fates," she announced, her words commanding attention.

"At the Arch, I witnessed the Three Fates, and I saw Atropos sever a thread," Annabeth continued, her gaze steady.

"And is that a bad thing or...?" Percy turned his attention to Annabeth, his concern evident.

"The Fates weave the life strand of every living thing. When a thread is cut..." Annabeth's voice trailed off, the gravity of her words hanging heavy in the air.

"It means one of us is going to die," Annabeth finished, the weight of the revelation settling over us like a shroud.

"We're all going to die eventually," Percy remarked, seemingly oblivious to the severity of the situation.

"Soon," Annabeth added, her voice tinged with foreboding.

"It's a warning," she stated firmly, trying to convey the urgency of the situation.

"An omen," Annabeth echoed, her expression solemn.

"Okay, let's get back to the issue at hand," Percy redirected his focus to me, his frustration palpable.

"It's fine, really! We need to focus on the fate,"I interrupted, attempting to diffuse the tension.

"You've been acting strange since we left the Arch," Percy continued, addressing both me and Eden. "Eden you haven't spoken since we left, and Lucky's been more mean  than usual!"

Lucky barked in response, causing Percy to flinch and move back.

"Oh... I see," Percy muttered, attempting to understand but falling short.

"It doesn't have to be a big deal that we shared a hug," Percy offered tentatively, his words awkwardly trying to bridge the gap between us.

"Is he always like this?" I asked Grover, seeking some reassurance, but he just shrugged.

"We're friends now," Percy continued, trying to clarify. "That's what friends do, right?"

"At least, I think so," Percy concluded uncertainly. "And don't worry, I understand that just because we hugged doesn't mean I'm trying to take her away from you."Percy turned to Eden and Lucky

"Bitch what are you on!?" Eden exclaimed, her confusion evident.

I glanced at Eden, silently seeking her approval to share our story. She nodded, giving me the go-ahead.

"Fine,I have a brother," I began, addressing the confusion on the faces of the others.

"Eden and I were with our friends, six of us in total, including my brother's best friend. We were at the park," I recounted, noticing the boys' intrigued expressions while the other girl gazed up at the sky.

"Suddenly, a Minotaur appeared outside our home and attacked, killing them right before our eyes. The Minotaur is one of the monsters outside our house, which means Medusa used her powers after they died. And today marks the anniversary of their deaths," Eden finished, tears welling in her eyes.

Grover and Percy wore solemn expressions, while Annabeth continued to gaze upward, lost in her thoughts.

"Okay, we need to address this fate thing," Annabeth interjected, attempting to steer the conversation towards a more constructive direction.

"Three old ladies with a ball of yarn can't predict our futures," Lucky chimed in, offering a semblance of reassurance.

"What I choose to do shapes what's going to happen, and I have the power to choose anything,"

I sat in silence as Percy's meaningful gaze bore into mine. "I'm sorry that happened to you. Both of you," he offered sincerely.

"It didn't happen to us,it happened to them," Eden corrected gently.

"Why do you think I tried to fight the Chimera? I knew I wouldn't win. I just thought that maybe, if I lost, I'd see them on the other side," I explained, my voice trembling with emotion.

"Rora..." Eden's voice was soft as she pulled me into a comforting embrace.

We parted as the roar of an approaching motorcycle drowned out our thoughts.

"Need some help?" a biker interrupted our tense conversation.

"Beg your pardon?" Grover responded politely, though it felt somewhat awkward.

"I asked if you could use some help," the biker repeated, his voice cutting through the tension.

"No, we're good, thank you," Grover said eager to dismiss the offer. "We appreciate it, though. Have a good one."

"Dude, stop being weird," Eden nudged Grover, sensing his hesitation.

"You don't seem too good," the biker observed, concern lacing his words.

"We don't want anything from you," Annabeth replied tersely, looking up to meet his gaze.

"Are you sure? Because you guys are seriously behind schedule," the biker persisted, his tone insistent.

"I mean, the summer solstice is just a few days away, and as much as I'd love to witness a good war kick off, as your cousin, I feel compelled to offer a hand," he continued, his words dripping with sarcasm.

"Cousin?" Percy echoed, his confusion growing.

"Ares. Why is it always the gods I can't stand?" I grumbled under my breath.

"You must be Medusa's kid," Ares remarked, pointing at me. "Talk of Olympus, you are. Always gotta be the loudest one in the bunch."

"Why would you even consider helping us?" Eden interjected, stepping in front of me to confront Ares.

"Ah, Hades' kid. I could see it from a mile away. You two are very much alike; I'm pretty sure you're his favorite," Ares replied, his smirk widening.

"Wait, what?" Eden's eyes widened in disbelief.

"How do you even know what we're doing out here?" Annabeth demanded, her skepticism evident.

"Fuck why he is even here? And did you say Hades is my father!?" Eden exclaimed, feeling a surge of panic.

"Because I'm doing exactly the same thing as you," Ares explained casually, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Can you stop ignoring me, please?" Eden pleaded, frustration creeping into her voice.

"Nah, your reaction is too funny," Ares chuckled, clearly enjoying the chaos he was causing.

"I mean, I kinda already knew," Annabeth admitted, and Grover nodded in agreement.

"Well, thank you so much for being so helpful ," Eden muttered, her irritation palpable.

"Zeus sent all of his kids out looking for the master bolt, too," Ares continued, ignoring Eden's remark.

"Listen, dummies, I'm hungry," Ares snapped impatiently. "There's a halfway decent diner up the road. If you want my help, you'll meet me there. But don't dawdle. I won't wait forever."

With that, he revved his motorcycle and sped off into the distance, leaving us bewildered and even more confused than before.

"That's my cousin?" Percy exclaimed incredulously.

"Isn't that what he just said?" Lucky retorted, though Percy wisely chose to keep his thoughts to himself.

"What kind of family is this?" Eden sighed, her frustration evident.

"A very shit one," I replied, though I knew it didn't offer much comfort in the face of our bizarre predicament.

"Come on," I urged, motioning for the others to follow as we continued on our uncertain journey

Skipped some parts because I'm lazy

"So their quest," Ares sighed, "is bound to fail. Ask me how I know."

"It's not going to fail," Percy snapped at the god.

"Sure it will. Besides, you're not even meant to be on this quest," Ares retorted.

"First off..." Ares began, showing them his phone with a Twitter fight displayed.

"Percy was always troubled, but I never thought he was capable of something like this,"

"Twitter is for grandpas," I remarked, glancing up at the god.

"Shut up, you dipshit, and watch," Ares replied.

"Who's that?" Grover asked, pointing to the screen.

"My stepdad. What's he doing?" Percy inquired.

"Aurora is right, it is a shit family," Eden affirmed, echoing earlier sentiments.

"And in addition to the destruction at the Gateway Arch..."

"What's he doing?" Percy asked again.

"Wait for it," Ares said, putting his finger up, clearly enjoying the spectacle.

"You believe he may also have had something to do with your wife's disappearance?"

"A kid that messed up,"

"What wouldn't he do?"

"What?" Percy questioned.

"Wild, right?" Ares chuckled in amusement.

"The FBI is already spreading your picture around," the protagonist continued reading.

"It's a Camaro. I really... We really loved that car," Percy's stepfather whimpered.

"So much," the adult sobbed.

"I'm gonna kill him," Percy vowed.

"I knew I was gonna like you," Ares remarked.

"But safe to say, the chances of you three idiots hitchhiking the rest of the way to L.A. without getting arrested are slim to none,"Ares  concluded.

"Oh, so we're free to go? Great, let's go!" Lucky exclaimed.

"Not so fast. Don't think the rest of the gods will let you slide, especially Athena," Ares warned, eyeing me.

"Why are you sitting here then?" Annabeth questioned.

"If you're supposed to be looking for the master bolt too, shouldn't you be out there looking for it?" I finished her sentence.

"Hm. There's no fear in you two, is there?" Me and Annabeth shared a look and shook their heads in unison.

"Doesn't matter. Whether the bolt's retrieved or not, Zeus is going to war with Poseidon," Ares stated.

If I'm honest, Poseidon kinda deserves that. I mean, I like Percy and all, but Poseidon's a jerk, and so is karma, so I'm probably rooting for Zeus.

"No. The Oracle said if we return the bolt, there wouldn't be a war," Percy countered.

"Is that what she said? Or is that what Chiron said she meant?" Ares questioned.

"Yeah," Percy confirmed.

"You're new to the family, young one, so let me fill you in on how we work," Ares began.

"See, years before I was born, my grandpa Kronos ate my aunts and uncles," Ares explained, while I was disgusted.

"Yeah. Then my dad made him puke them back up, then chopped him into a million pieces and chucked 'em into a bottomless pit, so that kinda set the tone right outta the gate," Ares continued.

"Olympians are fight. We betray. We backstab," Ares listed.

"We will push anyone down a flight of stairs to get ahead," Ares admitted.

"And that's why I love my family so much," Ares concluded.

"My dad knows he's not getting this bolt back with quests or goose chases,"Ares interjected.

"He knows there's a war coming,"Ares added
"And in reality, I think he's okay with that," Ares concluded.

Ares inhaled deeply. "Isn't that great?"

"We're completing this quest. We're stopping this war," Percy declared.

"You said you can help. Can you?" Percy asked Ares.
"Okay, so here it is. There's an amusement park up the road," Ares revealed.

"I left my shield there. You get me my shield back, and I'll get you to the Underworld by lunch tomorrow with a plan to invade Hades's palace," Ares proposed.

"You left your shield? Like, forgot it on the merry-go-round?" I chuckled.

"Okay. The chirping was funny to me for a minute, but it is getting old," Ares conceded.

"So are yo-"I was going to say before I was Ridley interrupted.

"So do we have a deal, or am I killing all of you so I can eat in peace?" Ares asked.

"Okay," Percy agreed, looking at all of them and linking eyes with me.

"Great. One catch," Ares added.

"I really do need that shield back, so I'm gonna keep the satyr, the dog, the girl, and the miss drama queen over here as collateral so you don't run off," Ares stated.

"What? No," Percy protested.
"Dramatic!? I am not dramatic," Eden said, raising her voice.

"Okay," Grover relented.
"No way," I argued.

"We don't split up again," Percy  insisted.
"It's okay," Grover  reassured.

"If he wanted to kill us, we'd be dead by now," Grover reasoned.

"Can we just walk them to the door?" Eden suggested.

'•.¸♡ ♡¸.•'

"I haven't seen a lot of horror movies, but this seems like exactly the kind of place they'd suggest to avoid."Percy said weary of the dark.

"I've never seen any kind of movie.Well the only one I've seen is the one about Greek gods mother was showing me why not to trust them."i then added"oh and the karate kid that was the only exception."

"I'll have to take your word for it."

"Never?"Percy said surprised

"What do you mean "never" like, "never-never"?"

"Is there another kind?"I reply sarcastically

"Well, if neither of us is dead in a few days, we really ought to fix that."

"Is the Perseus Jackson asking me out on a date?"I say feeling 'honoured'.

"Oh um."Percy started stuttering I could tell he was nervous.

"Don't worry I was just joking."

"In the meantime, we should probably get this over with, though."

"Yeah what you said."

'•.¸♡ ♡¸.•'

Then Percy started opening a gate then suddenly something started moving.

"Wait, Percy, stop."I ordered him.

"Wait, what just happened?"

"Just hold still.Gimme a second."I said

"In the mechanism there, that's Celestial bronze."

"Oh, fascinating. Aurora what is happening right now?"Percy panicked.

"Celestial bronze is what your sword is made of."

"If you're a human, it'll pass right through you."

"If you're a monster or a demigod..."I pause my sentence knowing what's going to happen next.

"Well, what's it doing there?"

"That's a great question. Not at that point yet."

"Safe to say, this is not just some amusement park."

"A god built this."

"What kind of god builds amusement parks?"

"Hephaestus."

"Why would Hephaestus build an amusement park?"

" Maybe he finds them amusing?"

"Or he is a 3 year old stuck in a gods body."I guess

"That's really not funny, sleeping beauty."

"It's a little funny seaweed brain."

"Oh... Oh, look at that. That's cool."I say distracted of all the amazing stuff that's happen

"Rory!"

"Right sorry on it."

"Okay."

"I get this. Just... push through it."

"Push?"

"Yep.Thats what I said isn't."

"'Cause Annabeth said, "The Fates say one of us is gonna die and we should take it really seriously?""

"Percy?"I gazed into his eyes

"Yeah?"

"Just push."

As Percy walked through amusement park , the sound of metal clanging echoed off the walls, punctuated by the distant ringing of a solitary bell, creating an eerie symphony of industrial decay.

"What was that?"Percy sighs

"The machine isn't designed to hurt us. It's meant to scare us. It's a test."

"Hephaestus wanted to know any time one of us came poking around his playground."

"I guess now he knows."

"Oh, wow.Look at that."Aurora says in amusement as Percy quietly watches her with a smile on his face.

"Tell me the god of craftsmen didn't build this."

"Have you ever seen anything like this?In the real world?"

"If it belongs to the god of craftsmen, what was the god of war doing here? Aren't they enemies?"

"Then why'd he split without his shield?"

"If I'm guessing...Ares has always had a thing with..."the girl started off.

"Aphrodite."Percy finished off my sentence.

"She's Hephaestus's wife."

"That's so wrong.""

"They got caught and he had to leave in a hurry."

"One thing Ares was telling the truth about... this family is a mess. Now I know what he meant."

"Because I built it."

A look of shock washed over my face as I realized the person who built the amusement park was standing right in front of me.

But I shook it off focussing on what's really important.

Percy Jackson.

"I'm not leaving here without my friend."

"And if you aren't going to help me, could you maybe leave me alone so I can focus."

"In spite of what my brother might've told you, I am not someone who'll be pushed around."

"I know you like him maybe even love."

"What would you know about love you got rejected more than once and you had to negotiate your way to marry Aphrodite, she never loved you and you will never be loved."I exclaimed, my voice tinged with frustration as I continue to turn the gears.

"Go with the shield and all the sadness will go away."

"Eat or be eaten. Power and glory and nothing else matters."

"I won't be like all of you."

As the gears began to wind by themselves, an eerie energy filled the air, Percy was still standing frozen like a statue. But then, as if by magic, the gears reversed their motion, and Percy's form shifted and twisted until he transformed back into his human self, a sense of relief washing over him as he returned to his natural state.

"Some of us don't like being that way either."
