V. WORKING ON PROJECT

The afternoon sun cast a golden glow over the streets as Y/N stepped out of the convenience store, a plastic bag of snacks swinging lightly in her grasp. She glanced at her phone, scrolling through her contacts before tapping on Nagi's name.

The phone rang twice before a groggy voice answered.

"...Haaah... what?"

Y/N rolled her eyes. "I'm heading to your place now. I got snacks, so be prepared."

There was a pause. Then, "...So much effort..."

Y/N sighed. "Too bad. Stay awake, Nagi."

Before he could come up with an excuse, she hung up.

With a determined pace, she started walking toward his apartment, gripping the bag of snacks a little tighter. She had a feeling this study session was going to be a challenge—not because of the work itself, but because keeping Nagi conscious was a battle of its own.

When Y/N reached Nagi's apartment complex, she made her way up to his floor and rang the doorbell. She shifted the bag in her hands, waiting for him to open up.

A few seconds later, the door swung open.

And standing there, in all his half-awake, disheveled glory, was Nagi Seishiro... shirtless.

Y/N blinked.

Nagi blinked back, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, completely unfazed. His white hair was even messier than usual, strands sticking up in odd directions, and his toned, lean frame was on full display.

Y/N quickly averted her gaze, clearing her throat. "Uh... were you sleeping?"

Nagi let out a lazy yawn, scratching the back of his head. "Mm... was gonna take a nap before you called."

Y/N sighed, stepping past him. "Put on a shirt."

"...Haaah, so annoying..." Nagi mumbled but complied, shuffling off to his room to grab one.

Y/N set the bag of snacks down on the small table in his living room. She glanced around, his apartment was neat, but that was probably because he didn't bother making a mess in the first place. It was quiet, peaceful even.

A minute later, Nagi returned, now wearing an oversized t-shirt that hung loosely over his frame. He flopped down onto the couch with a sigh. "Okay. Let's get this over with."

Y/N raised an eyebrow. "You make it sound like torture."

Nagi yawned. "It is."

Y/N ignored his dramatics and pulled out her notes. "Come on, let's get started."

For the next twenty minutes, they worked in relative peace. Y/N did most of the explaining while Nagi half-listened, occasionally nodding or giving one-word responses.

Then, right as she was in the middle of writing something down—

A soft thud.

She turned her head and saw that Nagi had slumped forward, arms crossed on the table, head resting on top of them. His eyes were closed. His breathing evened out.

Y/N narrowed her eyes. "Nagi."

No response.

She reached over and poked his cheek. "Nagi."

Nothing.

She sighed and then—smack!—gently (but firmly) hit the back of his head with her notebook.

"Hngh—!" Nagi groaned, lazily lifting his head. "Haaah... why?"

"You are not falling asleep on me," Y/N said sternly.

Nagi pouted, rubbing his head. "Tch. You're so mean..."

"Yeah, well, you're the one who agreed to this project," Y/N pointed out. "Now sit up and focus."

Nagi grumbled something under his breath but did as he was told.

For another ten minutes, they worked in peace.

Then, once again—

Thud.

Y/N glanced up to see Nagi slumping over again, his eyes barely open.

This time, she didn't even hesitate. Smack! Another light hit with her notebook.

"Ow," Nagi whined. "You're so violent..."

"You're so lazy," Y/N shot back.

Nagi slouched further into the couch, looking absolutely miserable. "Why do I have to do this...?"

"Because we have a deadline."

"Deadlines are stupid."

"And so are you if you fail this project."

Nagi let out the longest sigh of his life, tilting his head back dramatically. "Haaah... this is suffering..."

Y/N rolled her eyes but couldn't help the small smirk tugging at her lips.

Despite his complaints, Nagi somehow managed to push through another hour of work (with several more threats of notebook smacks).

Eventually, Y/N leaned back, stretching her arms. "Alright, we've made good progress. You can relax now."

Nagi immediately flopped onto the couch, arms sprawled out, looking like he had just survived a war.

Y/N snorted. "You act like I tortured you."

"You did."

"Don't be dramatic."

"Haaah... so annoying..." Nagi mumbled, but there was no real bite to his words.

Y/N grabbed the bag of snacks, tossing a small bag of chips at him. "Here. Your reward for actually doing work."

Nagi caught it with one hand, blinking at it. "...Too much effort to open."

Y/N threw a pillow at him. "Just eat the damn chips, Nagi."

Nagi smirked lazily, tearing the bag open with ease.

20 minutes in, the soft clicking of keys filled the room as Y/N scrolled through various research articles, her eyes scanning through information for their project.

The atmosphere in Nagi's room was peaceful, aside from the occasional sound of him shifting restlessly on the bed beside her.

She sighed, stealing a glance at him.

She had expected him to get distracted, but at least he hadn't fully dozed off—

Until she suddenly felt something heavy rest against her shoulder.

Y/N stiffened, her fingers pausing over the keyboard.

She turned her head slightly, and there he was, Nagi Seishiro, completely knocked out, his white hair slightly tousled as he leaned against her. His breathing was slow and even, his face relaxed in sleep.

Y/N blinked.

Of course.

She should wake him up. She really should. But as she opened her mouth to say something, she hesitated.

Nagi looked... peaceful. His usual expression of boredom and laziness was gone, replaced by something softer.

His long lashes cast faint shadows on his cheeks, and his lips were parted slightly, his breath slow and steady.

He must've been really tired.

Letting out a small sigh, Y/N shook her head. "You're so hopeless," she murmured under her breath, but she made no move to push him away.

Instead, she turned back to her laptop, adjusting her posture slightly so that his weight didn't strain her shoulder too much. If he needed the rest, she supposed she could let him be... just for a little while.

Minutes passed, the only sounds in the room being the occasional clicking of her laptop and Nagi's soft breathing.

Then, after a while, she felt movement.

A small groggy sigh, followed by a shift of weight.

Y/N felt him stir, and seconds later, Nagi blinked awake, lifting his head slightly. His eyes were hazy with sleep as he slowly realized where he was.

There was a long pause.

And then, finally, Nagi blinked again, his brain catching up to reality.

"...Huh?"

Y/N smirked, turning to face him. "Took you long enough to wake up."

Nagi sat up straighter, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. His gaze flickered to her shoulder, then back to her face. "Wait... was I sleeping on you?"

"Yep."

"...Oh."

Y/N raised an eyebrow, waiting for a reaction, but all he did was stare at her blankly, as if processing the information.

Then, instead of apologizing, he let out a long yawn and stretched his arms over his head.

"Haaah... feels nice to get some rest," he mumbled, completely unfazed.

Y/N scoffed. "Seriously? That's all you have to say?"

Nagi scratched his head. "What else am I supposed to say?"

"I don't know, maybe an apology?"

He tilted his head lazily. "Why? You let me sleep."

Y/N groaned, rubbing her temples. "You really are impossible."

Nagi hummed, leaning back against the bed frame. "Well, if it makes you feel better... your shoulder is kinda comfortable."

Y/N stared at him.

He stared back.

"...Get back to work," she finally muttered, turning back to her laptop.

Nagi simply shrugged, stretching once more before shifting on the bed to look at her screen.

A few minutes passed in comfortable silence before Y/N's stomach let out a quiet grumble.

She froze.

Nagi, of course, noticed immediately.

"You hungry?" he asked, glancing at her.

Y/N sighed, shutting her laptop. "A little. You?"

Nagi hummed. "Mmm. Too much effort to cook, though."

Y/N rolled her eyes but stood up, stretching her arms. "I'll cook something. You got ingredients, or am I gonna have to work with instant ramen?"

Nagi blinked at her. "You cook?"

"Yeah, and lucky for you, I'm nice enough to make something for both of us," she said, walking toward his kitchen. "Now, do you have actual food or not?"

Nagi scratched his cheek. "Uh... I think I have some stuff for ramen in the kitchen. Reo stocked it last time."

Y/N nodded. "That'll do."

Nagi followed her lazily, watching as she rummaged through his kitchen cabinets with practiced ease. She pulled out the ingredients, noodles, broth, eggs, green onions, and started preparing them with swift, confident movements.

Nagi leaned against the counter, observing her.

"Haaah... never thought I'd see someone cooking in my kitchen," he muttered.

Y/N smirked, cracking an egg into a pot. "And I never thought I'd be cooking for you. Life's funny, huh?"

"Mmm."

Despite his usual lack of enthusiasm, he seemed genuinely interested as she worked. She moved efficiently, chopping green onions, boiling the noodles, and carefully soft-boiling the eggs to perfection. The rich aroma of broth filled the air, making even Nagi perk up slightly.

After a few more minutes, Y/N placed two steaming bowls of ramen on the counter, complete with toppings. She handed one to Nagi.

"Here. Try not to burn your tongue," she said, grabbing her own bowl and sitting down.

Nagi took a seat across from her, lazily picking up his chopsticks. He lifted some noodles, blew on them slightly, and took a bite.

The moment the flavor hit his tongue, his eyes widened just a fraction.

Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Good?"

Nagi swallowed, then nodded. "Mmm. Better than instant."

Y/N chuckled. "That's the highest praise I'm getting from you, isn't it?"

"Probably."

They ate in comfortable silence, the warm meal making up for the tiring afternoon. Y/N was pleased, despite his usual laziness, Nagi seemed to genuinely enjoy her cooking.

When they finished, she placed her bowl in the sink and stretched. "Alright, I should probably head out."

Nagi hummed. "Leaving already?"

"Yeah. Unlike you, I have things to do."

Nagi let out a small sigh. "Haaah... too much effort to walk you out."

Y/N rolled her eyes. "I wasn't expecting you to."

Still, as she put on her shoes and grabbed her things, she glanced back at him.

"Thanks for today," she said.

Nagi blinked at her, tilting his head slightly.

Then, after a pause, he mumbled, "Mmm... thanks for the food."

Y/N smirked. "See? You can be polite when you try."

"Don't get used to it," Nagi muttered, leaning against the doorway as she stepped outside.

She chuckled and waved before heading off.

As Nagi watched her leave, he yawned, stretching his arms over his head.

"Cooking, huh..." he murmured to himself, glancing back at the empty bowl on the counter.

Maybe having her around wasn't so bad.
