'✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹ THE ELLIOT TRAILER was small, all it could fit was two bedrooms, a single bathroom and the kitchen/living room. It was most definitely what you would call a tight fit, but both Brooke and Nate made it work, the trailer was their perfect home.

No matter how much heartbreak they endured everyday from their past, they still managed to make happy moments. Watching movies until early hours with a great deal of candy and popcorn at least once a week or they'd head to Mystic Grill in the town square — where Brooke worked as a waitress — for a mini game night, and Nathan would always manage to sneak her a beer or two.

Idiotically, the Elliot siblings decided to have a movie night on the Sunday before Brooke started school again, so they both jumped up to the sound of a phone ringing, numerous blankets draped over them and rubbish scattered all over the small living room. Brooke rubbed her eyes, searching around for her cellphone under pillows and the blankets until she eventually found it, pressing accept and placing it against her ear without even looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?" Brooke stood up from the couch, tripping over a blanket as she did so due to her being half-asleep and she headed towards the hallway to enter her bedroom, not sparing one glance in Nate's way since she knew he'd already be fast asleep again.

"Brooke? We're outside." Bonnie Bennett's voice sounded through the speaker and Brooke's eyes widened in remembrance. Bonnie, Elena — who was Brooke's cousin — and herself had all planned to drive to school together in Bonnie's new car for their first day and she completely forgot about it, "Did you sleep in again?"

Brooke rolled her eyes as she pulled a random shirt over her head from in her dresser, finding it ridiculous that Bonnie knew her so well, she scoffed before replying, "Um, no..." She trailed off, pulling her signature dark red leather jacket on, not bothering to change her jeans that she had fallen asleep in the night prior.

"Sure. Hurry up, shortcake. We're waiting!" Bonnie chuckled with Elena and ended the call, chatting with the Gilbert for a little while before the door to the trailer opened, revealing an extremely groggy looking Brooke Elliot.

The aforementioned girl closed the door behind her, rubbing her eyes as she approached the car, climbing into the back seat. Both Elena and Bonnie turned in their seats, glancing at each other momentarily before they looked over at her, watching as she locked her seat belt and got comfortable.

"Another movie night with your brother?" Elena's voice made Brooke jump, and the two girls rolled their eyes with giggles, used to seeing her in that state. They turned around, the answer to Elena's question unnecessary considering they already knew the answer, and Bonnie started up the engine, pulling out of the dirt road.

Brooke stared out the window, the speed of the vehicle making the trees go blurry, giving her a slight headache so she looked away, deciding to fix the rat's nest on her head people would call hair. Suddenly, Bonnie began talking, distracting the Elliot from her hair.

"So, Grams is telling me I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that." Bonnie explained, and Brooke leaned forward as much as she could with her seatbelt on to be involved with the conversation. Bonnie looked over, noticing her friends' confused looks, and she chuckled, feeling the same way, "I know, crazy, but she's going on and on about it and I'm like, "Put this woman in a home already.""

Bonnie joked, and Elena smiled, staring out of her window whilst Brooke stayed put, watching the side of Bonnie's face with concentration, listening to every single word.

"But I start thinking, I predicted Obama, and I predicted Heath Ledger." Bonnie continued and Brooke pouted, the memory of the actor's death bringing her a slap of sadness.

"Oh, rest in peace to that gorgeous, gorgeous man." She placed her hand over her chest dramatically, her eyes closed sympathetically and Bonnie chuckled, nodding along.

"He was gorgeous." Bonnie smiled sadly, her mind filled with pictures of the beautiful man who had played Joker. Brooke's eyes moved over to her cousin, who was clearly zoning out, staring directly out of the window and the older girl patted Elena's shoulder, bringing her attention back to the car.

Elena's eyes were wide when she noticed both pairs of eyes in her, and she shook her head out of disappointment in herself, "I did it again, didn't I? I'm sorry, Bonnie. You were telling us that—"

"That I'm psychic now." Bonnie cut her off with a proud smile, and Brooke giggled at her best-friend's antics, throwing herself back into her seats, "Hey, careful." Bonnie scolded and Brooke rolled her eyes playfully, fiddling with the sleeves of her jacket.

"Okay, then, predict something about me." Elena challenged, her eyebrows raised and Bonnie grinned, tilting her head to the side in thought whilst also attempting to concentrate on the road at the same time. They were currently in the town square which led to the high-school, and there was a tiny bit of traffic slowing them down.

Bonnie sighed, looking Elena up and down before she spoke, "I see—" The Bennett girl was cut off by a loud bang on the windshield, and all three girls let out a scream as the car swerved into a row of parking spaces in front of an antique store, "What was that? Oh, my God."

"Shit. My head." Brooke lifted her hand to the side of her head, letting out a groan at the pain, feeling a bump already forming. She'd hit her head on the window roughly, and she had a headache already, meaning it was now worse than before.

"Elena, are you okay?" Bonnie questioned, staring at the girl with nothing but fear and concern. Elena had been in a car accident before the summer break, she survived, but her parents sadly didn't.

"It's okay. I'm fine." Elena reassured her, nodding, but she jumped when Brooke's face came into view from in between the seats, her eyes assessing Elena's face to see if she had any injuries.

"Jeez, there's a..." Bonnie reached her hand up after noticing a bump on the side of Brooke's head, and she only hovered her fingers over it for a millisecond before Brooke groaned in pain, moving away, "Sorry." Bonnie winced and Brooke shook her head in disbelief, "I think it was a bird or something."

"I can't be afraid of cars for the rest of my life." Elena admitted, looking over at Bonnie, who smiled and let out a deep breath as she glanced at both of her friends. Elena watched her with a grin, however, Brooke had the exact opposite mood, a glare on her pale face.

"I predict this year is going to be kick-ass. So, that means, stop whining over a little bump on your head, Brooke." Bonnie joked, glancing back at the girl, only to receive an annoyed look, causing her to chuckle, "And I predict all the sad and dark times are over. And you are going to be beyond happy, both of you."

"Not with this fat lump on my head, I'm not." Brooke huffed, staring out the window, unbelieving of Bonnie's "prediction" and both of the girls in the front seats rolled their eyes playfully as they looked at each other before Bonnie started the engine back up again, turning the car out of the parking space, entering the road again.

THEY EVENTUALLY ARRIVED at Mystic Falls High School and the three girls strolled down the hallways filled with students. Brooke pushed some of her messy hair behind her ear, feeling slightly insecure due to the fact that she had absolutely zero time to make herself look presentable at all that morning.

"Major lack of male real estate. Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beech." Bonnie judged, her face full of disgust at the sight of the blonde girl's dress and Brooke laughed out loud, agreeing with her. The three reached Bonnie's locker, Elena leaned against the locker beside it whilst Brooke stood beside her cousin, her hand gripped firmly onto the strap of her gray shoulder bag, "Ugh. Find a man and coin a phrase. It's a busy year."

As Bonnie went to put her combination into her locker, her eyes flickered past the two girls and over to Matt Donovan, whose eyes were boring into the back of Elena's head. The Gilbert noticed Bonnie's look, and she turned, locking eyes with Matt. In attempt to be civil, she lifted her hand to wave at him but he just looked away, clearly still recovering after their breakup the day of her parent's death.

"You're torturing him." Brooke caught her attention, her lips pressed together in an awkward smile and Elena lowered her hand, turning around and staring at the ground. She crossed her arms over her chest and leaned against the lockers again, letting out a loud sigh of frustration.

"He hates me." Elena stated and Brooke nodded in agreement, causing Bonnie to slap her on her arm lightly. Brooke believed in being truthful over feeding your friend lies just to comfort them, it was reality they were living in, not some fairytale filled with vampires and werewolves.

"That's not hate. That's, "You dumped me, but I'm too cool to show it... but secretly I'm listening to Air Supply's greatest hits."" Bonnie visibly winced and Elena raised her eyebrows in agreement, the Bennett girl turned to look into her locker when Brooke jumped out of her skin at the feeling of someone touching her hair.

"You guys are such fake friends, how could you allow Brooke to walk around like this?" Caroline Forbes tutted and moved to stand directly in front of Brooke, her hands reached up to fix the brunette's messy hair, "You're lucky your hair is pin straight, I'd die for your hair. My hair is always so bushy after it air-dries."

Caroline rambled and Brooke smiled gratefully at her closest friend, glad someone was looking out for her. The Forbes girl then turned to the other girls, rushing forwards to embrace Elena when she noticed her.

"Elena, it's so good to see you. How are you?" Caroline muttered quickly and pulled away, looking over at Bonnie, who everyone knows is Elena's closest best-friend, "How is she? Is she good?"

Bonnie sent her a wide toothy smile, unsure of what to reply with when Elena leaned forwards, sticking her head into Caroline's view, "Caroline, I'm right here. And I'm fine, thank you." Elena nodded, seemingly trying to not only convince everybody else that she was perfectly okay, but also herself.

"Really?"

"Yes, much better." Elena smiled and Caroline rushed forward to give the Gilbert another squeeze. Bonnie and Brooke locked eyes from over Caroline's back and they both giggled quietly, always finding Caroline to be an entertaining personality, they both loved her to pieces for it though, "Okay, Caroline." Elena whispered, feeling all of her air leave her body.

Caroline finally pulled away with a grin, and looked at both Bonnie and Elena with a wide smile, "Okay, see you guys later?" The two girls nodded with the same smiles and watched as the blonde hooked her arm with Brooke's, leading her away, "You're coming with me."

"Where to, Queen C?" Brooke giggled and so did Caroline, they were the unstoppable duo, they always matched each other's energies and made sure to be there for each other through everything. They often went to wild random parties and had a ton of sleepovers together, if Brooke had to pick one person to be her bestest friend in the entire world, she'd say Caroline.

"The little girl's room to fix you up. Let me guess, you slept in?" Caroline tilted her head, a knowing look on her face and Brooke rolled her eyes, starting to get frustrated.

"How does everyone just know that?" Brooke asked in disbelief and Caroline scoffed, shaking her head as they entered the girl's bathroom, three girls already in there, one was fixing her makeup, another was washing her hands and the other was searching through her bag in panic.

"Come on, you're Brooke Elliot, pro at oversleeping." Caroline smiled, placing her maroon handbag on the corner of one of the sinks to search through it. She pulled out a hairbrush, holding it out for Brooke to take.

"Well, technically, it isn't really oversleeping if I go to sleep super, super late." Brooke shrugged, running the brush gently through her dark hair and Caroline didn't reply, too entangled in concentration mode to even comprehend what her best-friend was saying, "What are you even looking for?"

"Aha!" Caroline grinned as she pulled out her mascara tube, along with a lip gloss and some blush, "This'll do it. Here, stand still." Caroline opened up the mascara and began to apply it on Brooke's eyelashes carefully whilst the aforementioned girl continued to brush her hair, being careful not to move.

After brushing some blush onto the Elliot's cheeks and allowing her to apply her own lipgloss, the makeup was done and all of the supplies were safely back in Caroline's purse.

"Perfect." Caroline complimented, reaching her hands forward one more time to fix Brooke's hair for the hundredth time in the last five minutes, causing Brooke to swat her hands away, a small smile on her face.

"You're a lifesaver, C." Brooke slouched her shoulders, her head tilted with a huge smile on her face towards her friend, wanting nothing more than to hug her as tight as she could right there and then.

"Don't sweat it, B." Caroline winked playfully and the duo toppled into a fit of uncontrollable giggles. A girl exited the stall and sent them a dirty look, and unfortunately for the sophomore, they both noticed, "Ew! Imagine wearing your carpet to the first day of school when everyone knows your family's rich."

"My dad lost his job, actually." The girl snapped back, presuming they'd feel sorry for her in some way but none of them felt even a glimpse of guilt or sympathy towards her.

"Womp womp." Brooke lifted both of her hands, making them into fists and she moved them near her eyes, making a cry baby gesture. The girl rolled her eyes and stormed out without even washing her hands, causing Brooke to scrunch her face up in disgust, "And she didn't even wash her hands, gross."
