THE day was warm, the sun casting a golden glow over Monaco as Lando helped Gianna into his car. She was dressed simply, in a light sundress, her hair loosely tied back, but she looked radiant to him. It was one of the better days for her, and he wanted to make the most of it.

"Where are we going?" Gianna asked as he started driving, a curious smile playing on her lips.

"You'll see," Lando said with a grin, keeping the destination a surprise.

After a short drive along the coast, he parked near a small, tucked-away restaurant overlooking the water. The place wasn't crowded or extravagant—it was intimate, the type of spot where they could just be themselves.

Lando helped her out of the car, and as they walked to their table on the terrace, the ocean breeze brushed past them, carrying the scent of salt and fresh seafood.

"This is perfect," Gianna said, her voice soft as she took in the view.

They sat down at a corner table, shaded by a white canopy. The water sparkled in the sunlight, and the sound of gentle waves provided a peaceful backdrop.

"I thought you'd like it," Lando said, smiling as he handed her the menu. "I know you haven't been out much lately, so I wanted to take you somewhere calm. Just us."

Gianna reached across the table, her fingers brushing his. "It's perfect, Lando. Thank you."

They ordered a light meal—fresh pasta for her, grilled fish for him—and shared a bottle of chilled water, because she couldn't have alcohol. Conversation flowed easily, from reminiscing about their first dates to lighter topics like his recent races and her music.

"You know," Gianna said between bites, "I've been thinking... maybe I should start writing about everything that's been happening. Not for anyone else, just for me. To process it all."

Lando nodded thoughtfully. "I think that's a great idea. You've always been able to express yourself best through your music. It might even help you feel more like yourself again."

She smiled, a genuine one that lit up her face. "Yeah, maybe it will."

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Lando leaned back in his chair, watching her.

"What?" Gianna asked, raising an eyebrow at his gaze.

"Nothing," he said with a small smile. "I'm just happy to see you like this. Smiling, out and about. I've missed it."

Her expression softened. "I've missed it too. And you've been so patient with me, Lando. I don't know how I'd get through this without you."

"You don't have to do it without me," he said simply. "I'm here, always."

After their meal, they took a short walk along the beach near the restaurant, the sand cool under their feet. Gianna leaned into Lando as they strolled, her energy fading slightly but her heart feeling full.

When they returned home that evening, Gianna felt lighter than she had in weeks. It wasn't just the fresh air or the good food—it was him, the way he always found a way to bring her back to herself, even on her hardest days.

THE next morning, the air in the clinic felt sterile and heavy as Gianna and Lando sat in the waiting room. Lando's hand rested protectively over hers, his thumb gently tracing circles on her skin. Gianna glanced at him, grateful for his presence, though the nervous flutter in her chest remained.

"You'll be fine," Lando said softly, sensing her unease.

"Let's hope so," she whispered, offering him a small smile.

They were called into the consultation room shortly after. Dr. Laurent, Gianna's oncologist, greeted them warmly, gesturing for them to sit down.

"Gianna, it's good to see you," the doctor began, glancing down at her notes. "How have you been feeling?"

Gianna took a deep breath. "Tired, mostly. Some days are better than others, but the headaches and body aches still come and go. And..." She hesitated, glancing at Lando before continuing. "My hair's been thinning a lot more lately."

Dr. Laurent nodded empathetically. "That's to be expected, unfortunately. But from your recent scans and bloodwork, I can tell you that the treatment is working as we'd hoped."

Gianna blinked, her heart skipping a beat. "It's working?"

"Yes," the doctor confirmed with a reassuring smile. "The cancer has responded well to the therapy. It's still early, but the progress we're seeing is promising. However, we'll need to continue with the treatment to ensure we fully address it."

Lando squeezed her hand tightly, a wave of relief washing over him. "That's good news, right?" he asked, looking at Gianna.

"It is," she said, her voice shaky but filled with hope. "Thank you, Dr. Laurent."

The doctor continued, "You may still experience fatigue and other side effects as we move forward, but if anything feels out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to contact me. For now, I'd recommend continuing to take it easy, as you've been doing."

Gianna nodded. "I will. I just want to get through this."

"You're doing incredibly well, Gianna," Dr. Laurent said. "You've shown so much strength."

After the appointment, as they walked out of the clinic, Gianna let out a long exhale, her shoulders visibly relaxing.

"See?" Lando said, pulling her into a side hug. "You're kicking ass, darling."

She chuckled, leaning into him. "I guess I am. But it's not just me—it's you, too. I don't know how I'd do this without you, Lando."

"You won't have to find out," he replied, kissing the top of her head. "I'm with you through all of it."

Gianna squeezed his hand as they walked to the car, a sense of cautious optimism settling in. The journey wasn't over, but for the first time in a while, she felt like she could see the light at the end of the tunnel. And she wasn't walking toward it alone.

THAT afternoon, the sunlight streamed softly into the apartment as Gianna sat by the window, sipping tea and staring out at Monaco's shimmering harbor. The doctor's words still played in her head—progress, hopeful, strength. She wasn't out of the woods yet, but she finally felt like she was stepping into a clearing.

Lando had been unusually quiet since they got home. He moved around the apartment, tidying things, glancing at her every now and then as if he were trying to read her mind. Eventually, he walked over, crouching down beside her chair, and rested his hands on her knees.

"You okay?" he asked, searching her face.

"I'm...processing," she admitted, putting her mug on the table. "It's good news, but it doesn't feel real yet, you know?"

Lando nodded. "Makes sense. You've been through so much—it'll take time for it all to settle."

Gianna looked at him, her eyes soft. "I don't know how you do it—always being here for me, even when I've been a mess."

He smiled, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "Because I love you. That's all there is to it."

Her heart swelled, and for a moment, she just stared at him, the depth of his words sinking in. She reached for his hand and squeezed it. "Thank you, Lando. For everything."

"Always," he said, standing up and tugging her gently to her feet.

"What are you doing?" she asked, amused.

"I've decided we're going for a walk," he announced. "Fresh air, sunshine—it's what you need."

She laughed softly. "Is that what the doctor prescribed?"

"Something like that," he teased, grabbing her jacket.

As they strolled along the harbor, Gianna felt the weight of the last few months lift, even if just a little. Lando talked about his upcoming race, telling her funny stories from the paddock, and she listened, grateful for the distraction.

By the time they returned home, her cheeks were flushed from laughing, and for the first time in weeks, she felt like herself again. She looked at Lando, who was unlocking the door, and thought, Maybe we're going to be okay.

GIANNA sat nervously in the small, sterile room, the faint hum of the air conditioner doing little to calm her nerves. Her fingers tapped lightly on the armrest of the chair as she waited for the doctor to return with her scans. The walls felt like they were closing in, and though she had told herself she'd face this moment with strength, the solitude made it harder. Lando wasn't there—he was halfway across the world for a race weekend.

Her phone buzzed in her lap, and she glanced down. A message from Lando:

"Thinking about you, darling. Call me as soon as you know. I love you."

She swallowed hard, typing back a quick, "I will. I love you too," before the door opened and her doctor stepped in, holding a folder.

"Gianna," he said with a calm smile, sitting down across from her. "Let's take a look at the results."

Her heart raced as the doctor pulled up her scans on the computer. She leaned forward slightly, gripping the edge of the chair, her pulse loud in her ears.

After a moment of studying the images, the doctor turned to her, his smile soft but steady. "The scans look clear, Gianna. There's no sign of the cancer."

Her breath hitched. "Clear?" she repeated, almost in disbelief.

"Yes," he confirmed. "The treatment has worked. You're in remission."

Tears welled in her eyes as she leaned back in the chair, relief washing over her like a tidal wave. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice shaky.

The doctor nodded, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We'll continue monitoring you closely with follow-ups, but this is a very positive step. You've done incredibly well."

When she finally stepped outside the clinic, the warm Monaco sun felt brighter than it had in months. She took a deep breath, clutching her phone tightly, and dialed Lando's number.

It rang twice before he picked up, his voice hurried but excited. "Gianna? What did they say?"

"They said..." Her voice broke, tears streaming down her cheeks as she smiled. "It's gone, Lando. I'm in remission."

There was a pause on the other end, followed by an audible sigh of relief. "Darling, that's incredible," he said, his voice full of emotion. "I knew you could do it. I'm so proud of you."

She laughed through her tears. "I just... I can't believe it's over."

"It's not over," Lando said gently. "But this is the beginning of something new. A fresh start."

"I wish you were here," she admitted, leaning against a lamppost.

"I'll be there as soon as I can," he promised. "Celebrate for now, yeah? You deserve it. And when I get back, we'll celebrate properly."

Gianna smiled, closing her eyes and tilting her face toward the sun. "I love you."

"I love you more," he said. "And I'll see you soon, darling."

As the call ended, Gianna stood there for a moment, taking in the world around her. Everything felt sharper, brighter. For the first time in a long time, the future felt like hers again.
