Peter woke up that day thinking about both what happened the night before with captain Stacy, and also what was going to happen that night at Pembrooke. He thought that certainly it would've been at least awkward, considering that neither May nor Hermione knew the reason behind their break up, or so Peter hoped since he wasn't sure if Veronica already told her mother or not. In any case that would've been a long day, and in Peter's words, there's no bad day that stays like that with some good music, so he chose one of his CDs and turned on his stereo amplifiers

[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]

Peter got ready: he had a shower, washed his teeth, put on his costume, and on top of it he put on some blue jeans, black shoes and belt, a white T-shirt and a blue jeans jacket. Then he took his backpack and went downstares, where he found his Aunt May cooking breakfast

Aunt May: "Hey, honey! Had a nice sleep?"

Peter: "Hi, May! Yeah, I slept good."

Aunt May: "Hey, get a look on the newspaper, I think you too will find it pretty strange."

Peter: "I'll find what strange?"

Aunt May: "Just read it, it's literally in the front page."

Peter got curious, so he took the paper and started reading

A FLEE STOPPED!

Yesterday evening a man named Flint Marko was stopped during a chase with the police. Captain George Stacy released a quite interesting comment: "We were having a hard time chasing the man, until Spider-man arrived swinging on the car. He managed to stop the driver without causing too much of a property damage. Even if the entire police department doesn't agree with Spider-man's out-of-law actions, I wanted to publicly thank him for his service." Does this mean that the police captain is tolerating a violent thief swing in our peaceful city? Do we have to doubt on the ability of captain George Stacy to apply entirely the law?...

May: "Honestly I think that Alice just loves to cause trouble with anyone she sees."

Peter was too dumbfolded to say anything, he couldn't believe that captain Stacy said something so kind to him...well, to Spider-man, but still.

May: "And that Spider-man, finally someone says something kind about him."

Peter: "Aunt May?"

May: "Yeah, honey?"

Peter at this point had put the paper down and was fiddling with his hands, he had to ask this to her Aunt

Peter: "What do you think of Spider-man?"

Peter needed to know if what he was doing...putting on a mask...swinging from building to building...beating up bad guys...he needed to know if there was someone who supported him...someone he cared about. He didn't dare to look at her in the eyes: he feared his emotions would explode out of him if she said the same things everyone else kept saying...everyone except George Stacy. Peter was very surprised that the first person to say something good about him, was the one who was hunting him to put him behind bars.

He waited patiently for an answer, deeply hoping it didn't turn out to be a critique...another critique.

May: "Hmm...what do I think of Spider-man..."

May extinguished the flame and started taking a pair of plates for Peter and herself while pondering the question her nephew asked her

May: "I think he's reckless..."

Peter started to think he would hear the same things all over again, but then she continued

May: "...but he is brave and has a kind heart, and he's trying to do the right thing despite all the unfair hate he recieves. *chuckles* In a way he reminds me of you..."

Peter couldn't believe his ears...his dear Aunt May, who he made and continued to make suffer for his mistake...truly said something like that...she truly thought good about him...

May: *gets serious and points at him* "...but if you ever try putting yourself in danger like that, I'll kick your ass."

Peter: *chuckles* "C'mon, May, I'm not Spider-man. I couldn't even if I wanted to."

Peter was sure he had the best Aunt there was, and he was certainly right. She not only complimented Spider-man, but also him, saying basically that he was brave and that he always struggled to do the right thing, which was true, and he couldn't be happier that his Aunt saw that. They ate happily their breakfast, then Peter kissed his Aunt's cheek and went for the front door, but when he opened it, he found a certain blonde about to knock

Peter: *surprised, smiles* "Oh, Betty, hi."

Betty was taken by surprise by his timing, she didn't even have time to fix neither her clothes nor her ponytail. In reality she didn't need to fix anything, but she couldn't help it: everytime she was near Peter Parker her breathing sped up and her heart skipped a beat, her pupils dialeted everytime she saw him, a clear signal of the strong feelings she had for her funny nerd...friend, who she hoped with her whole heart would become something more. At this point Betty was a shuttering mess

Betty: "Oh, P-Peter! Y-You know I-I was just... *takes a deep breath* (damn you, Peter, how do you even do that?!) I was wondering if you wanted to walk me to school..."

Peter: "Sure, Betty, I'd be happy to do that." *smiles*

Peter and Betty started to walk together and talk about the recent events

Betty: "So...about your last conversation with Archie..."

Peter: *frowns* "I-I don't wanna talk about it, Betty..."

Betty: "It's just that...it always pains me to see you two fight like that."

Peter: "I know...it pains me too, Betty...but I can't just forget those three months...three months following my Uncle Ben's... *his eyes get glossy* he abandoned me, and convinced you to do the same, then also Jughead was left by him and he became more and more closed. I can't just forgive and forget: if he'll prove me that he truly wants to rebuild what we had, only then I will listen and maybe...forgive him. I'm sorry, Betty, if I'm being selfish."

Betty: "Oh no, Peter, I totally understand. If I have to be honest, I'm pissed at him as well. You see, the night of the dance, when we got home, I had a fight with Archie about this, and...and I told him not to write or talk to me."

Peter: "Betty, I don't want that my situation with Archie affects even your relationship: this is my problem, if you wanna be with Archie, and I know you want, then just...be with him."

Betty was touched by Peter's care. But he was so oblivious...he thought that Betty still had a crush on the redhead, when in reality she was waiting the right time to confess her feelings to Peter. She first needed to know for sure if between him and Veronica there was only friendship and if he was over her, and all of this would have taken time to find out, but for him she was more than ready to wait. She also had to figure out what to do with Archie: since Peter and her were again best friends, had she still a reason to be that mad at him? Her only wish was to be with Peter, and now she could...as a friend, but still. It always pained her not to talk to Archie...maybe she had to listen to Peter and be friends with the young Andrews once more.

The two friends walked some more until they arrived at school, where Peter saw Harry at his locker, taking some books he would've needed. He said 'bye' to Betty and went to meet his best friend

Peter: "Hey, Harry!"

Harry: *turns* "Hey, buddy. Gwen told me what happened."

Peter: *scratching the back of his neck* "Oh, did she?"

Peter feared that Gwen spilled everything about their conversation on the school steps about how everyone abandoned him: he didn't want the group to part, he wanted to put it together again...

Harry: "Yeah...I can't believe that she kissed Archie in that closet. I'm really sorry, man, I was the one who pushed you to make a move. *scratches the back of his neck* I kinda feel partly responsible for this..."

Peter released a breath he didn't know he was holding when he discovered that Gwen only told what everyone already knew. He could always trust Gwen, he knew it.

Peter: *puts a hand on his shoulder* "Oh, Harry, no. It's not your fault, not at all: she made a mistake *under his breath* maybe me too *speaks normal again* but we're dealing with it."

Harry: "So you're still together?"

Peter: "Well, not at the moment."

Harry: "Hmm, okay. But will you get together again?"

Peter: "I...I don't know, Harry. I think that Gwen was right: I know so little about her. Maybe it's better if we stay friends, but we'll see tonight."

Harry: "Tonight? At the Pep Rally you mean?"

Peter: "Oh, right, we have the Pep Rally tonight! I forgot..."

Harry: *deadpalms* "Seriously, Peter? It's like the main event that everyone is getting ready for."

Peter: "Yeah, I know, but I've been busy. Anyway what I meant before is that Hermione, Veronica's mother, invited May and me to their place to have dinner."

Harry: *surprised* "Oh, that's...good, right?"

Peter: "Yeah, I'm happy for May: she'll be able to spend time with a friend of hers, it's what she needs after...you know."

Harry: "Yeah, I get it, Pete. Well, I hope you'll stay in good terms regardless."

Peter: "Mmhm, I hope too."

Then the bell rang, signaling the start of the lessons. Peter hurried to his first one on his schedule and arrived late...again. After having a bunch of classes, it was time for a break, so many students went to the student lounge to spend time and eat something with their friends. Peter arrived with Betty, Gwen and Kevin, and there they found Jughead, Veronica, Harry and Archie. Harry and Veronica were on a couch talking together, Jughead was standing by himself a bit far and Archie was on another couch, glancing at Veronica and Harry from time to time.

Harry: "...and then practically my dad was desperately trying to convince general Slocum that the formula was ready, while Dr. Strom was all 'Oh, we need to take the whole line back to formula'."

Veronica: *chuckles* "And what do you think? Should they take it back to formula or not?"

Harry: "I trust my father: if he says the formula is ready, then it's ready for me too. *turns to Peter, Betty and Gwen* Hey, guys!"

Veronica: "Peter...Betty, Gwen, hi guys."

Peter/Gwen/Betty: "Hi!"

Peter: "What were you talking about?"

Veronica: "Well, Harry here was telling me about the reason why he wasn't at school yesterday."

Gwen: *perplexed* "Really? He was telling you?"

Peter knew what this was all about: Harry didn't tell Gwen what he did, he kept it secret from her, but he told Veronica. Gwen was more than perplexed, she was pissed, while Betty didn't absolutely know what was happening.

Harry: "Well, I-I was gonna tell you."

Gwen: "When exactly? Because I called you yesterday in the evening, when you were home, and you told me you couldn't tell me. So, care to explain?"

Then in the lounge entered Reggie with a bunch of jocks

Reggie: "...and Sheriff Keller's grilling me, mantle the Magnificent, because I'd want Blossom dead, when he was the only good quarterback we had. Speaking of offensive tight ends, I should've sent the cops to you, Moose, because here's another unsolved mystery: what were you and Kevin doing at the river? Or does being with the sheriff's son give you a free pass, Keller?"

Betty: *puts a hand on Kevin's shoulder* "Reggie's just a blowhard, Kevin."

Peter: "Yeah, pay no mind, man."

Kevin: "I don't care what he says."

But Reggie, being the huge dick he was, kept on going

Reggie: "I mean, let's think about it, if a kid at Riverdale killed Jason, it's not gonna be a jock, right? No, let's be honest...isn't it always some spooky, scrawny, pathetic Internet troll too busy writing manifestos to get laid? Some smug, moody, serial-killer-fanboy freak...like Jughead. What was it like, Suicide Squad, when you shot Jason? You didn't do stuff to the body, did you? Like, after?"

And Jughead, taking no shit from anyone, answered

Jughead: "It's called necrophilia, Reggie, can you spell it?"

Peter laughed a bit at Jughead's comeback, and Reggie noticed it

Reggie: "Got something to say, nerd?"

Peter: "Nah, I think Jughead said everything."

Reggie: "I'll rip that smirk off your face!"

Reggie started going for Peter, while Betty and Gwen, from each side, were leaning on him, scared. Peter didn't want to fight, though he was certainly ready for it, but Archie stopped Reggie, shoving him a bit

Archie: "Hey, shut the hell up, Reggie!"

Veronica: "Boys!"

Reggie: "Why do you care, Andrews?!"

Archie: "He's...he's my friend, and you won't touch neither him nor Jughead."

Both Peter and Jughead noticed this exchange. The brunette was really surprised by it: he didn't think Archie really cared about him, but there he was, defending him in public.

Reggie: "Holy crap, don't tell me you, Donnie Darko and Flint Lockwood right there kill him together? Was it some sort of pervy blood-brothers thing?"

Archie couldn't hear him anymore, so he punched him, but that escalated fast with Reggie throwing himself over Archie and trying to punch him, but Peter didn't stand there watching: he shoved Reggie off Archie and a bit far. He couldn't do much or people would've had suspects on him being Spider-man, but Reggie didn't have such a problem: he took Peter from his shirt and threw him in the vending machine, breaking all the glass, and then threw him on the ground and punched him in the eye, between the gasps of fear of Peter's girl friends. Fortunately the security was already there and dragged Reggie in the principal's office.

Archie: "Pete, hey, you good?"

Peter: *grunts* "Is that even a question?"

Archie: "Here *extends a hand* let me help you."

Peter: "Thanks, Archie." *takes his hand and gets up*

Gwen: "Oh my God, Peter! *rushes and hugs him tightly* Are you okay?"

Peter: *chuckles* "I'm good, Gwen."

Gwen: "Good." *releases him and slaps his arm*

Peter: "Ow!"

Gwen: "Don't ever scare me like that anymore!"

Peter: "Noted."

Gwen: "C'mon Karate Kid, let's put some ice on that eye."

Gwen walked Peter to the infirmary, where he was again scolded by Gwen and put some ice on his bruised eye, while Peter was trying to convince Gwen that he was good and that he would've been in top shape in no time, which was true, thanks to his fast-healing, but Gwen wasn't having it.

Gwen: "You're not a fighter, how in the world were you thinking you could beat a guy twice the size as you?!"

Peter: "I couldn't just let him beat Archie, he just defended me!"

Gwen: "What would've happened if the security wasn't there?"

Peter: "Reggie's not a criminal, Gwen, he's a bully, and if you let them do what they want, they'll put you down for good."

Gwen: *sigh, puts a hand on her forehead* "How do I even put up with you?"

Peter: *smirks* "Because I'm your best friend, and you're mine, we'll always put up with eachother."

Gwen: ('best friend'...God how come I both like you and hate you at the same time?!) "Yeah, I guess you're right...but imma tell May about this!" *runs outside giggling*

Peter: *panicked with wide eyes* "What? No, Gwen, wait!" *chases her outside*

Later that day, when Peter got home

Peter: "May, I'm home!"

Aunt May walked to greet Peter

May: "Hi, honeEHY, WHO MADE THAT BRUISE ON YOUR EYE?!"

Peter: *scratches the back of his neck, chuckles nervously* "Well, it's a real funny story, Aunt May, you see..."

Peter went on talking about what happened and, because of all the swears his Aunt said, we're just going to move on to a more friendly part of the story. Archie confronted his dad about what happened between him, Peter and Jughead the night before, revealing that it was about a certain girl...a really old girl, but of course he didn't tell the last part, and his father encouraged him to do the right thing. In the meantime, Gwen arrived home

Gwen: "Daddy, I'm back!"

George Stacy came out of the kitchen

George: "Hey, my girl, how was school today?"

Gwen: *while putting down her stuff* "Well, it was good until Peter recieved a punch in the face."

George: *surprised* "What? What happened?"

Gwen: "You know Peter: he defended a friend and then got the worst. I swear I can't stand him! He's willing to put himself in danger so easily!"

George: *chuckles*

Gwen: "What?"

George: "Nothing, I always liked that boy."

Gwen: *sighs, under her breath* "Me too..."

George: *smirks* "You said something?"

Gwen: *blushes* "Nothing!"

George started to wash the dishes to get the lunch ready

George: "And...how are things with Darry...Barry...?"

Gwen: "Harry."

George: "Yeah, him. Is everything good?"

Gwen: "Well, first of all don't try to fool me, he comes here often: you know his name very well."

George: *chuckles* "How are you so intelligent?"

Gwen: "I'm the police captain's daughter, what do you expect? Anyway, everything's good with him."

George: "Are you sure? Something's not right."

Gwen: "And how would you know?"

George: "I'm the police captain, what do you expect?"

Gwen: "Touchรฉ, but why do you think that?"

George: "I dunno...it's just that you seem...happier...with Peter. You know, small things: you're spontaneous, constantly smiling..."

Gwen: "Ooookay, I guess I'll go in my room now."

George: "As you wish, just make sure to choose something...or someone that makes you happy, dear. And say 'hi' to Peter for me!"

Gwen went straight for her room and closed the door behind her, releasing a breath of releif. She couldn't hide anything from his father, and she hated that. Still, she couldn't help but wonder if he was right...if she truly chose someone who didn't make her happy. Harry was a great guy, he made her feel nice but...but Peter was something else entirely: it was true that she felt better with Peter...but he only saw her as a friend, nothing more. Regardless, she sent Peter a message on her chat

Gwen couldn't but smile at the dorkiness of Peter and at his determination to beat up whoever picked on her.

It was the night of the Pep Rally and everyone was gathered to assist at the celebration despite the rain that, fortunately, wasn't that heavy. Veronica and Betty were already cheerleading while the band was marching and playing. Peter arrived with his Aunt and saw Archie and Jughead talking in the distance, so he excused himself and went near them

Jughead: "Girl trouble? You?"

Archie: "Grundy and me, we're telling Weatherbee. Or, at least, I am."

Peter: "Hey, guys!"

Archie/Jughead: "Hi, Pete."

Archie: "Guys, listen...I didn't mean all that crap I said to you, I'm sorry. And Pete...look, for all that's happened I-"

Peter: *smiles* "It's okay, Archie, we're even. *extends hand* Friends?"

Archie: *smiles* "Best friends."

Jughead: "We're not gonna hug in front of this whole town. So why don't we both just do that bro thing where we nod like douches and mutually suppress our emotions?"

Archie: "Yeah, but as friends, right?"

Jughead: "As you said, Arch, best friends."

They all laughed, this time as best friends, like it was meant to be. Then Peter saw Gwen coming with her dad.

Peter: "Uh, sorry guys, I have to go now."

Jughead: "Go get her, man."

Peter laughed and left the two

Archie: "Those two are dangerous, aren't they?"

Jughead: "Yeah, I hope it ends well for everyone."

In the meantime, Peter arrived in front of Gwen and her father

Peter: "Gwen!"

Gwen: *smiles* "Pete!" *hugs him*

Peter: *hugs back* "So, at the end you came?"

Gwen: *breaks the hug* "What? Are you upset?"

Peter: "I could never be. Hey, Mr. Stacy, is everything good?"

George: "Peter, how many times do I have to tell you? Just call me George, you're family to us. How's your eye?"

Gwen: "Oh, yeah, is it better now?"

Peter: "Yes, don't worry."

At that moment the mayor started her speech, meaning that the Pep Rally was about to start

Peter: "Hey, there's plenty of space with us, you wanna join us?"

Gwen looked hopefully at her dad, who already knew what to do

George: "Actually I still have to catch up with your Aunt, Peter. Why don't you and Gwen sit there together?" *points to a spot empty of people*

Peter: "Oh, sure. Let's go, Gwen."

Gwen silently scolded his father, who was already setting up everything. George Stacy knew way too well that his daughter had a crush for Peter Parker and not for Harry Osborn, and this was the perfect opportunity for her daughter or for Peter to make a move.

Mayor: "Tonight's pep rally isn't like any other we've had in the past, and we shouldn't pretend that it is, which is why I would like to dedicate this evening to the memory of one of our brightest, Jason Blossom. We're with him tonight. Now, please, join me in welcoming to the field our very own River Vixens and their special guest stars...my daughter Josie and her Pussycats!"

[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]

During the song Gwen would glance at Peter from time to time, it always brought a smile on her face seeing him happy, she started fiddling with her hands as soon as she noticed how close they were

Gwen: "So...any programs for tonight?"

Peter turned to face her and, he didn't know why, but to him she seemed more...beautiful that night

Peter: "Well, me and my Aunt were kinda invited at Veronica's for dinner. It's the perfect occation to settle everything and decide what to do."

Gwen: *breathes anxiously while fiddling* "And what did you decide? You are...getting back together?"

Peter: *shakes head 'no'* "I thought much about it and I think it's best if we stay friends. As you said, I don't know her very much, and I think that this is the best way to go for us."

Gwen smiled as a reaction to Peter's words

Gwen: "Good..."

Peter: "Where's Harry? I didn't see him."

Gwen: "He's not coming. Apparently his dad's will is more important than me. Sometimes I wonder if this is my destiny: to be left alone by everybody..."

Peter: *puts a hand on her shoulder, around her neck* "Hey, you're not alone, Gwen: I'm here with you, and I'm not going anywhere." *smiles*

Gwen: "I know, Pete. *smiles, takes his hand on her shoulder and holds it* I know."

They stayed like this, enjoying both their company and the event.

At the end of the Pep Rally Cheryl ran in the bathroom, sobbing, and seeing this Veronica went to comfort her.

Veronica: "Cheryl? Cheryl, what is it? What happened?"

Cheryl: *sobbing* "Jason, he's gone."

Veronica: "I know, I know he is."

Cheryl: "No, you don't understand: he was supposed to come back!"

Veronica mouthed what Cheryl said, wondering what did she mean, while sitting with her inside the girls' locker room.

Cheryl: *sobbing* "I'm alone...I'm alone..."

Veronica hugged her

Veronica: "You're not alone, it's okay, shh..."

In the meantime Betty was watching the whole thing with a smile on her face, then she turned around and saw in the distance Peter and Gwen...holding hands while laughing and smiling to eachother...and something inside her heart started to ache.

Peter and Gwen were still sitted next to eachother, and suddently they noticed they were still holding hands, so they quickly retracted them and looked away, her blushing deep red and him slightly blushing.

After a while Peter excused himself, being very nervous at that point not knowing why, and Gwen who at that point would've gladly accepted death. Peter walked a bit and saw Veronica and Betty walking together

Peter: "Hey, girls!"

Veronica/Betty: "Hi, Peter!"

Peter: "You two were amazing there! One of the best shows ever been here in Riverdale!"

Both girls blushed a bit, Betty the most. While the blonde was looking down smiling, Veronica smiled at Peter

Veronica: "Thanks, Pete. Hey, listen, can I talk to you real quick?"

Peter: "Sure, let's go."

Veronica: "Just a moment, Betty."

Betty: "Yeah."

The teens went a bit far and Veronica started to talk

Veronica: "So, Pete, I've been thinking about...us, and what we're supposed to be..."

Peter: "Me too, Veronica."

Veronica: "Great, so...I think that maybe...maybe we should try being...being friends, you know? Get to know eachother and see where this will bring us. What do you say?"

Peter: *releases a breath* "I'm actually releaved, I was gonna say the same thing."

Veronica: *releases a breath* "Good. Now, about the dinner, my mother said that if we want we could go to Pop's while her and your Aunt catch up at dinner. I thought we could go with the others."

Peter: "That'd be great Ronnie, let me just tell Gwen and call Harry."

Veronica: *smiles* "Ronnie?"

Peter: "Yeah, we're friends, aren't we?" *smiles*

Veronica: "Yeah, we are, Petey. Well, I'll wait you with Betty and the others."

Then Peter dialed Harry's number and called him

Harry: ใ€ŠHello?ใ€‹

Peter: ใ€ŠHey, Harry.ใ€‹

Harry: ใ€ŠHey, Pete. I'm sorry I couldn't come, something came up with my dad and I really had to go with him.ใ€‹

Peter: ใ€ŠDon't worry. Hey, would you like to join your fellow musketeers for a dinner at Pop's, like old times?ใ€‹

Harry: ใ€Š*chuckles* I would never miss it, let's meet eachother there!ใ€‹

Peter: ใ€ŠGreat, see you!ใ€‹

Then Peter went to Gwen and told her, pointless to say that, being Peter, she accepted right then and there.

Peter, Gwen, Betty, Veronica, Archie and Jughead went to Pop's, and shortly after in came also Harry.

Finally the six musketeers, with a new addition to the group being Veronica. They talked and laughed together while enjoying their burgers and milkshakes. From outside everyone would've seen simply a bunch of teens enjoying their meal, but in reality they were much more: they were a group of friends who faced a hell lot of difficulties, and regardless they overcame them, together.

In the meantime, Norman Osborn was talking with a man that just entered inside his limousine. He was a man with a serious expression and a pair of glasses

???: "So, Mr. Osborn, is your formula ready?"

Norman: "Oh, it is. There's just some detail needing to be taken care of, but we're on time with our schedule."

???: "That's good to hear. There's only a problem, Mr. Osborn."

Norman: "Which is?"

???: "My boss heard...voices about a collaboration between Oscorp and the U.S. army, which recently has requested a peculiar formula."

Norman: "Well, Mr. Wesley, you can tell Mr. Fi-"

Wesley: "He doesn't want people to use his name."

Norman: "Well, tell your boss that I, as well as him, am a business man, doing business. The Oscorp will benefit greatly from this collaboration with the U.S. army, as well as he will benefit from recieving our special formula."

Wesley: "Good. It's better if you ensure that no incidents happen: my boss told me that he would be very...upset if the authorities started to investigate on us just because you wanted more profit, he also told me that in that circumstance there would be...consequences...pretty harsh, if you ask me."

Norman: "There won't be any problems, I can ensure that."

Wesley: "Good. *to the driver* Excuse me, I get down here."

The driver stopped the limo, then Wesley turned to Norman

Wesley: "Play wise your cards, Mr. Osborn, it's better this way."

Then he got out, leaving Norman.
