Late in the evening Veronica came inside Pop's and saw her mother working there

Veronica: "You're doing great, Mom, better than me this week."

Hermione: "Yeah, we're surviving, Ronnie, by our wits, because that's what we Lodge women do. If your dad could see us now...."

Veronica: "...he'd say you look stunning in that new uniform."

Hermione: "Hey, mi hija, how are things with Peter? You never told me what happened during the dance."

Veronica: "Well...I screwed up, and now we're not together anymore."

Hermione: "Ohh Veronica, I'm so sorry..."

Veronica: "The good news is that he didn't completely throw away the whole thing: he said he needs time to think, but he forgave me." *smiles, looking down*

Hermione: *smiles* "I don't know what happened, but I'm glad that despite it you're still in good terms."

Veronica: *smiles* "Yeah, me too..."

Then inside came also a tall red-haired boy, Archie Andrews

Archie: "Hey."

Veronica: "Hi."

Hermione: "And who might this heartbreaker be?"

Archie: "I'm picking up an order for Andrews."

Hermione: "Oh, you're Fred's son...you're as handsome as your father was."

Veronica: "I'll see you at home, mom."

Hermione: "Wait, I'm sure Archie would happily escort you."

So the two of them started walking together to Pembrooke

Veronica: "So...Peter is still mad at you, huh?"

Archie: "Yeah. I mean, I can't blame him, what I've done to him... *sighs* I just wish I could reverse time."

Veronica: "I can tell."

Archie: "And Betty doesn't wanna talk to me anymore."

Veronica: "I can tell you're in deep. But I know she'll forgive you eventually."

Archie: "I really hope so...you know, we've always gone to the same school, been in the same class. I remember in the second grade I was having trouble reading. My teacher, Mrs. Gribrock, told my mom and dad that I should stay back a year to get caught up. Betty was so against us not being in the same grade that she took it upon herself to tutor me every single day."

Veronica: "In second grade?"

Archie: "Yeah. Anyway, when I passed, thanks to Betty, I kissed her and I asked her to marry me. She was like, 'Oh, little Archie, we're too young, ask me when we're 18 and I'll say yes.'"

Veronica: "Wow...what about Peter? What's the story of you two?"

Archie: "Me and Betty knew Peter in third grade. *smiles* He was a small and scrawny kid with huge glasses and a passion for science...while me and Betty's heroes were pop stars, actors or writers, his were scientists like Dr. Connors, Dr. Stillwell, Dr. Octavius or even Dr. Wells."

Veronica: *chuckles* "Yeah, it really sounds like him."

Archie: "Anyway, he was tormented by Flash Thompson, we stood up for him and became close. We discovered later that he had two friends: Harry and Gwen. So when he introduced us all we, including my childhood friend Jughead, became inseparable, we called ourselves 'The Six Musketeers'. Everytime I had problems with my homework, or problems at all, Peter was there for me. I hate that I hurt both him and Betty..."

Veronica: "Don't worry, Archie: a friendship like that can't really die so easily, I'm sure you'll be together again."

Archie: "Thanks...anyway, you and Peter seem to be okay now."

Veronica: "Yeah...I still don't know how could he forgive me that easily."

Archie: "He's a great guy: he cares more for others than himself, he's unique."

Veronica: *smiles* "Yes, he's special."

Archie: "You really care for him, don't you?"

Veronica: "More than I thought I would when I first met him."

Archie: *smiles* "I'm sure he knows it, that's why he forgave you."

Veronica: "Yeah, I think you're right."

After escorting Veronica, Archie walked home, and on his porch he found a waiting Jughead

Archie: "Hey Jug, what's up?"

Jughead: "What's up is I saw you, Archie, in the music room...with Grundy."

Archie: "Keep your voice down, my father's inside."

Jughead: "I'm trying to help you, dude. I'm trying to be your friend here, even though we're not anymore. How long...you and Grundy?"

Archie: "Since this summer. I like her, Jug."

Jughead: "So I'm guessing she's the reason why you've been acting this weird since summer."

Archie: "...one of them."

Jughead: "One of them? There's more?!"

Archie: "We were at Sweetwater River on July 4th. We heard a gunshot...the gunshot."

Jughead: "Dude, you have to tell somebody-"

Archie: "I can't, neither can you: if people find out about Grundy-"

Jughead: "A kid is dead, Archie, and you're worried about some...some cougar?!"

Archie: "Don't call her that, okay? She's not like that: she cares about me."

Jughead: "Stab in the dark, I'm guessing she cares more about herself. She's the one telling you not to say anything, right?"

Archie didn't answer that question, so Jughead took it as a 'yes' and continued

Jughead: "Look, I saw you guys, and I'm sure Peter saw you two too: she's messing with you, man, and she's messing with your mind."

Jughead and Archie didn't notice, during their discussion, a certain brunette boy approaching them

Peter: "What's going on, guys?"

Both of them turned their gaze towards Peter

Jughead/Archie: "Pete."

Peter: "Jug, Archie, what's going on?"

Jughead: "I was just talking to him about something-"

Archie: "Private."

Peter: "Is this about your affair with Grundy?"

Archie widened his eyes

Archie: "You knew? How long?"

Peter: "Since the first day of school. What the hell are you doing, Archie?"

Archie: "Listen, my sentimental life doesn't concern any of you-"

Peter: "It does if you're hiding things about the 4th of July."

Archie: "Listen Peter, I-"

Peter: "I don't care about your reasons. The Archie I knew would never hide something this big if it has to do with a dead kid, where's that Archie? I'm sorry, but if you won't tell anybody, I will."

Archie instinctively took Peter's arm, keeping him still

Archie: "Pete, if you tell anyone about this-"

Peter yanked Archie's arm off him

Peter: "What? Are you gonna hurt me more than you already have, Andrews? You have a responsability towards Jason, Archie, and you can't avoid it, believe me...I know."

But then the door opened, showing Fred Andrews walking outside

Fred: "Jug, Pete, it's good to see you! You wanna come inside? We have an order from Pop's."

Peter: "Sorry, Fred, me and Jug were just leaving, another time."

With that Peter and Jughead left Archie there and started walking together

Jughead: "Hey, Pete, I...look-"

Peter: "Forget it, Jug, I know that I wasn't the only one Archie abandoned this summer, it's all good."

Jughead was surprised by Peter's reaction: he ditched him, like all the others, and yet he forgave him without hesitation. Jughead couldn't but widen a bit his eyes

Jughead: "Really? You mean it?"

Then Peter stopped walking and faced Jughead, looking at him straight in his eyes

Peter: "I mean it, Jug. *extends hand* Friends?"

Jughead: *smirks, takes his hand* "Best friends."

The two laughed together and kept their walk, while telling eachother stories and laughing again for silly jokes.

It seemed like a quiet and peaceful moment, but the Parker luck decided to strike again: five police cars were seen by both Peter and Jughead sprinting to the opposite direction the two friends were walking to, and Peter knew he had to act fast and dismiss Jughead to help the policemen chase the car that was fleeing.

Jughead: *glancing behind him, looking at the cars* "A chase? What is going on around here?"

Peter: *also looking at the cars, takes his phone* "Yeah, Aunt May?...Uh-huh...but- *sighs* okay, I'm coming. *puts his phone in his pocket, turns to Jughead* I'm sorry, Jug, May needs me, I have to go."

Jughead: *smirks* "No problem, man, go."

Peter nodded with a smile to Jughead, then he started running forward. After being enough far he turned left and ran through an alleyway, where he changed into his costume. Peter started chasing the police, swinging from building to building

Inside one police car

Capt. Stacy: *in the comms* "We have a 10.80, chase in progress, a stolen car, Aston Martin, brown, the driver was spotted robbing a bank in (A/N name it) Street, he is armed and dangerous, we request immediate backup! *sees Spider-man swing in front of them* I've spotted Spider-man! All units available, be ready to arrest him as soon as possible!"

With Peter

Peter started to gain speed, he was getting closer to the car each passing second, but unfortunately the driver saw him and tried to shoot at him. Peter, of course, dodged every single bullet and finally landed on top of the car

Spider-man: "Hi there, mister! I have to ask you to stop the vehicle!"

???: "Go to Hell!" *tries to shoot at him*

Spider-man: *dodges the bullets and got in front of the car* "Alright, I've tried the nice way, let's go with the bad one!" *punches the glass and grabs the driver, then jumps and webs the car*

Peter landed on the ground with the thief. Once they touched the ground Peter knocked him out and webbed him near the car.

He was just about to leave, but he didn't notice someone getting near, holding a gun against him

Capt. Stacy: "Freeze, Spider-man! You are under arrest!"

Spider-man: *turns around* "What? Why?"

Capt. Stacy: "You're operating outside of the law system, being a vigilante, interfering in the police's operations: it is my duty to put those like you behind bars."

Spider-man: *holding his hands up* "Captain Stacy, I-I'm just trying to help, I never stole those weapons, nor did all those terrible things the Register accuses me of."

There was a moment of silence between them

Capt. Stacy: "I know that, and I appreciate your good intentions, but things don't work like that. You should leave these things to the police."

Spider-man: "I can't just stay still and don't do anything!"

Capt. Stacy: "You're not an officer, that means you must."

Spider-man: "Captain Stacy, please."

Capt. Stacy: *notices his men incoming, lowers gun* "I'll let you leave for now, but the next time you interfere I'll bring you in."

Spider-man: "Then I suppose I'll have to go away quickly. Have a nice evening, captain."

Peter started swinging away, thinking about what happened: until that moment every police officer he met in his costume believed the Register when it said that Spider-man was the cause of the troubles in Riverdale. But Captain Stacy didn't believe the Register, he didn't believe Alice Cooper, and even appreciated his intentions. One thing was certain: captain George Stacy was a true officer, loyal to his duty and with a moral code. He would've been a great ally, but unfortunately they were rivals, and Peter couldn't be more sad about the fact that his best friend's father was also his adversary.

He couldn't but hope that one day things could change between them...

Once he got home he found a police car parked outside. Peter couldn't help but ask himself if this all was about his Aunt, a bad news maybe, and it's understandable: when his Uncle was killed, he found a police car parked outside of his house, it was a police officer who told him his Uncle was killed by that thief he let escape. This made him worried about his Aunt, so he quickly changed back in his civilian clothes and got inside

Peter: "May? Aunt May?"

May: "Here in the kitchen, Peter!"

Peter closed the door and entered the kitchen, where he found his Aunt talking with Sheriff Keller

May: "Hi, Peter, is everything okay?"

Peter released a worried breath

Peter: "Yeah, it's all good. Good evening, Sheriff Keller."

Keller: "Hi, Peter. I was just asking your Aunt a few questions."

Peter: "It's about Jason, right?"

Keller: *nods* "Exactly. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions too. Don't worry, it's just a formality."

Peter: "Of course, I understand."

The sheriff smiled at Peter. The boy was loved by many in Riverdale, by everyone who didn't bully him or think of him as a loser to be precise. After the 'interrogation' sheriff Keller left the place, and Peter and his Aunt sat in the kitchen

Aunt May: *sighs* "Poor boy...being killed like that..."

Peter: "Yeah...I get why Cheryl acts like this, all cold and...not nice all in all, but still..."

Aunt May: "Pete, everybody grieves differently."

Peter: "Yeah, I know, I didn't mean that. I think that-"

Aunt May: "That there's more beneath?"

Peter: "Yes."

Aunt May: *holds his hand* "Maybe you're right, maybe not. In any case, leave it to the police, Peter, that's their job."

Peter: "Okay."

Aunt May: *smiles, stops holding his hand and stands up, starts washing the dishes* "Now, today I recieved a call from Hermione, and she invited us both to the Pembrooke to have dinner with them tomorrow."

Peter: "Oh..."

Aunt May: "Why don't you tell me what went wrong with you and Veronica?"

Peter: *widens eyes* "How-"

Aunt May: "When we were searching for you the night of the dance, Betty told me something went wrong during your date, but she didn't get into the details."

Peter: *scratches the back of his neck* "Oh...w-well it wasn't anything too serious..."

Aunt May: "It didn't seem like it."

Peter didn't respond to that. Yes, she indeed broke his heart that day, but Peter didn't want things to be awkward. Plus, Aunt May needed a friend in that period, and Hermione was the best option at the moment, and he wouldn't ruin everything because of a crush, he felt like he needed to make it up for what he did

Peter: "Seriously, May, it's all good."

Aunt May: "So I can confirm your presence?"

Peter: "Yes."

Aunt May: "Good, because Hermione told me that Veronica really hoped you to come~"

Peter was happy that his relationship with Veronica was getting better, maybe they could be together again, but he couldn't help but wonder if it was safe to restart that type of relationship with Veronica, maybe they needed to be friends first, and maybe he needed to get to know her better since, as Gwen said, Peter didn't actually know much about her.

Only time would tell...
