Peter ran as fast as he could in an alleyway, he took off his clothes and put them inside his backpack, that he webbed on top of the building, then he put on his mask and started swinging to his objective: Vulture.
Spider-man: "I knew that these trackers would've been useful, now you won't escape."
Peter kept swinging towards the source of the signal while hoping all of that to be worth his struggles and his ditching with Betty: he enjoyed her company very much after all.
Half an hour earlier, at the Osborn household...
Harry Osborn got inside his home after a long day of school with a defeated expression and went inside of his room. After he left his backpack and his jacket on his bed, he went to the dining hall. It was immense and had, hanged on the walls, paintings showing battling knights and dragons, as well as noble courts filled with kings, queens and other powerful and important individuals. This is how Norman Osborn always percieved himself: a powerful and important warrior destined for greatness, a mighty king...who lost his queen a few years after his son's birth, the son he couldn't bare to show a father's love to. Norman was sit there, at a very long dining table, eating the lunch his servant Bernard made for him, alone. When he saw Harry's expression he instantly knew something was wrong, so, without even facing him, he greeted him
Norman: "Hello, Harry."
Harry: "Hi, dad."
Norman: "What's that expression on your face?"
Harry: "No, it's...it's nothing, dad."
But Norman wasn't having it
Norman: "What did I say about lying, Harry?"
Harry sighed, taking a seat across from his dad, at the very end of the long wooden table
Harry: "I'm sorry, dad. I'm having a couple of problems..."
Norman hums in response
Norman: "I hope it's not about that Gwen you told me about...again."
Harry: "Actually...yes."
Norman: *sighs, putting a hand on his face, then rubbing the bridge of his nose* "We talked multiple times about this, Harry. How many times do I have to tell you? There are far more important things than school girls: you have a company you need to be ready to run on your own."
Harry: "But dad-"
Norman: "No, Harry, I'm not having this conversation again. And by the way I have to go: *cleans himself with the towel, gets up and closes his jacket's first button* I have an important meeting with the board of directors: that winged guy is turning out to be a real problem. *looks at Harry* This time you won't come with me: you'll use this time to actually use your head and establish your priorities in the right direction."
Norman, then, started walking towards the exit, but stops beside Harry and puts a hand on his shoulder
Norman: "You have a great potential, Harry. Men like us can have anything if we are willing to put up our best effort, so don't waste that potential."
He then patted him on his shoulder and got out of his household. He went inside the limousine already waiting outside
Norman: "To Oscorp. Hurry: I have an important meeting."
From a distance Vulture was watching everything at the top of a building
Vulture: "Osborn...at last you came out of your little nest, and now...you're all mine..."
The Vulture spreaded his wings and flew down towards the car, while Norman was on the phone with Max, a member of the board, discussing the financial balance
Norman: "Max, please, try to stay calm."
Max: ใ "Calm" my ass, Norman! If you didn't notice we're facing the brink of failure! We lost way too many tech cargos, if this keeps going on we'll be forced to sell the company! ใ
Norman: "I won't let this happen, and you know it: I've sacrificed way too much at this point to surrender...listen, we'll talk about this once I arrive, now I have to make a call."
Norman ended the call and dialed another number
Wesley: ใ Mr. Osborn, to what do I owe the pleasure? ใ
Norman: "Listen, Wesley, cut the crap already. Your boss promised to fund me and my company, so why the hell am I on the brink of failure?!"
Wesley: ใ Please, Mr. Osborn, try to stay calm. The reason is very simple: you happen to be, in my boss' words, an incompetent. ใ
Norman: "Excuse me?!"
Wesley: ใ Your incompetence in dealing with the guy with wings made him realise that we could invest our money in something more...productive. Still, my boss is ready to reconsider his decision, if you manage to take out the guy with wings, of course. ใ
Norman: "And how am I supposed to do it?! I don't even know where he is!"
Wesley: ใ I am afraid that these are not our concerns, Mr. Osborn. Have a pleasant day. ใ *ends call*
Norman: "Argh, goddamnit!"
Suddently Norman heard a thud on the top of the limousine, right above his head, so he looked cautiously up when...a huge metallic claw slashed through the car, grabbing it and tearing the top half away, revealing the Vulture himself!
Vulture: "Osborn!"
Then he grabbed his collar with his hand and pulled him up, near his face. Norman had a mix of slight panic and realisation on his face when he saw the tech glider
Norman: "Who the hell are you?!"
Vulture: "I'm the Vulture, and now you're gonna pay for what you've done to my family!"
But, just when all hope seemed lost, a voice erupted, distracting the Vulture from his task
Spider-man: "Hey, Chicken Little, isn't it a bit early to disturb the suburbs?"
Both Vulture and Norman turned their heads and saw a red and blue suited guy, swinging towards them, and realisation came upon them
Vulture/Norman: "Spider-man!"
Spider-man: "Yeah, me!"
Then, Spider-man shot a web at Vulture's eyes, blinding him, so on instinct, he let go of Norman, who fell inside his limo, and flew up. Once in the air he used a knife to cut the webs off his face, then he removed them, but was met with a kick in the face by the hero, sending him backwards. Spider-man landed on the side of a building, while Vulture stayed in the air
Vulture: "Go away, insect: there are things going on that you can't understand!"
Spider-man: *brushing it off* "Sorry, can't do it: I can't exactly let you kill a person now, can I?"
Vulture: "I don't have time for this!"
Vulture, then, shot three metal feathers at him, who jumped off the wall and dodged the first, kicked the second away, and took the last one, while Vulture started to fly towards the limo
Spider-man: "Woah, cool! How did you manage to upgrade your wings?"
Vulture: "I learn from my mistakes!"
Spider-man started swinging fast towards him
Spider-man: "Really? Is that why you're facing me again? Or did you just miss me? You know, if you wanted a date, you could've just asked me, actually I feel flattered!"
Vulture: "Don't you ever shut up?!"
Spider-man landed on Vulture's back
Spider-man: "Nope, not exactly: it's kinda my thing, my public expects from me great entertainment. But I think it's now the time to end the show!"
Spider-man pulled back his hand and punched one of the wings with all his strength, but this time he only managed to make a dent in it
Spider-man: "Oww! What the heck are you made of, vibranium?!"
Vulture: *smirks* "As I told you, I learn from my mistakes!"
Then Vulture started to spin fast, successfully sending Spider-man away. Spidey fell for a few seconds before shooting two strands of webs to two buildings, successfully pulling himself up in the air.
Spider-man: (No, I won't let what already happened to me happen also to Harry, I won't let him lose his family too!)
Spider-man, with a new found confidence, propelled himself towards the limo, on top of which stood Vulture, holding Norman by his collar like before and ready to stab him in the heart
Vulture: "Now you'll pay for what you've done!"
But Spider-man webbed away the knife in his hand
Spider-man: "Not today, Duffy Duck!"
Vulture: "You again!"
Vulture, this time, flew up with Norman and tried to stab him with his wing, but Spider-man webbed his mask, blinding him again, and shot another web at Norman, pulling him towards him
Spider-man: "Hi, Mr. Osborn, here's your pilot speaking. We'll be facing a bit of turbolence, so hold tight, breethe, and don't puke on your spot, which would be me. Enjoy the flight!"
Vulture got rid of the web on his face and started to chase the hero
Vulture: "Stop right there, he's mine!"
Spider-man: "Oh gosh, I didn't know this was a date, my bad! Wait, are you cheating on me?!"
Norman: "Stop wasting time and move on!"
Spider-man: "I am! Gosh, the damsels in distress are so pretentious nowadays..."
Spider-man saw the police station and, just at the entrance, captain George Stacy
Spider-man: "To all the passengers, we're approaching the landing zone, don't panic and enjoy the landing!"
Vulture: "No, stop!"
Spider-man: "Hey, captain Stacy, I have something for you!"
George turned his head and saw Spider-man being chased by a winged man, while carrying Norman Osborn
Police officer: *aiming his gun* "Spider-man, put Mr. Osborn down!"
Spider-man: "That's what I'm trying to do, genious!"
George: "Drop your weapon down, officer!"
Spider-man threw Norman at George
Spider-man: "Thanks for choosing 'Spidey Airlines'!"
Spider-man turned and kicked Vulture in the face, sending him back, and landed on the ground
Spider-man: *to George* "Quick, bring him inside!"
George: *nods* "Sure thing, Spider-man!"
George and the officer brought Norman inside, much to Vulture's dismay. Spider-man swung up in the air and landed on another wall
Vulture: "NO! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!"
Vulture, enraged, flew fast towards Spider-man and tried to plunge the both of his wings through him, but he dodged on time and shot another web at his face
Spider-man: *landing on another wall* "Why do you hate Osborn?"
Vulture got rid of the web and turned around, facing him
Vulture: "Because he took everything from me! This was my chance to avenge them, and you took it from me! So you'll die alongside him!"
Spider-man: "What do you mean? Avenge who?"
He shot five feathers to Spider-man, but he dodged all of them, then he webbed one and threw it at his left wing's turbine, braking it in the process
Spider-man: "Our only weakness is ourselves, isn't it poetic?"
Then he shot a pair of webs and landed on him, then he teared his mask away
Spider-man: "Surrender now, and I might consider not leaving you on a lampost!"
Vulture: "Screw you!"
He, then, shot two more feathers, plunging his costume and immobilizing him on a wall, then he started to fly away
Vulture: "This is not over yet, insect!"
No matter how hard he tried, Spider-man couldn't take off those feathers off until Vulture wasn't out of sight. Once he was, he successfully freed himself, while groaning for the damage caused on his suit.
Peter went back on the building where he left his clothes and changed quickly, noticing in the process that one of the feathers left a cut on his left side, right under his ribcage. It wasn't that much of an injury, so it would've healed in a matter of hours. He crawled down from the building and started walking, then he called Betty
Betty: ใ Hello? ใ
Peter: "Hey, Betty, it's me. Sorry for leaving in a hurry."
Betty: ใ Pete? Hey, don't worry, it's okay: you had an emergency. By the way, what was that, if I may ask? ใ
Peter: "Oh, you know, it's...ehm...kinda private, you know...I-I really can't tell you yet...I'm sorry."
Betty: ใ No no no, don't even say that, it's okay. A bit strange, but okay. ใ
Peter: *sighing in relief* "Alright, cool. Ehm, listen, if you like we could do homework tomorrow at my place...o-or your place, I-I mean wherever you prefer, it's the same for me, I don't wanna cause trouble, i-if you don't wa-"
Betty: *laughs* ใ Pete! Pete! Stop! I would really like to, but actually I wanted to ask you and Juggie a little favour... ใ
Peter: "Favour? What kind of favour?"
Betty: ใ I'll tell you both tomorrow at school, I mean o-only if you can... ใ
Peter: *smiles* "Well, you know me, Betty: I'm always ready to help."
Betty: ใ Really? Oh thank you! I-I mean, thanks, ehm...I'll see you tomorrow, Pete, bye. ใ
Peter: "Bye."
The next day, at school, in the student lounge...
Betty, Archie, Veronica and Kevin were sitting in a booth talking together about the whole Jason situation
Betty: "So, are you a suspect now?"
Kevin: "My dad says we all are, including me."
Veronica: "Not me girl, I don't know these people."
Then Kevin, joking, said
Kevin: "Guys, should we maybe rebinge
'Making a Murderer' on Netflix tonight?"
They shared a little laugh
Betty: "Sorry, can't: gotta stay late to work on the paper."
Then from the entrance came Peter. As soon as Veronica saw him, she made a sign to 'come there and sit with them'
Peter: *waving* "Hey, guys!"
All: "Hey, Pete!"
Peter then sat near Veronica
Kevin: "Buddy, 'Making a Murderer' on Netflix tonight, are you in?"
Peter: "I would really like that, Kev, but I have a couple of things to do tonight, so..."
Veronica: "Count me out too, I have a date tonight."
At this both Peter and Archie were surprised and turned to face her, like Kevin did
Archie: "You do?"
Kevin: *excited* "Which Riverdale hottie made the cut?"
Then, from apparently nowhere appeared Chuck Clayton
Chuck: "Hey, V-Lo, I'll swing by the Pembrooke to pick you up at 8?"
Veronica: "I'll be waiting."
Chuck: "Cool."
Peter watched the exchange between the two of them with an interrogative expression. He wasn't jealous, he was confused: why would Veronica have a date with a douchebag like Chuck? And apparently he wasn't the only one confused
Archie/Peter: "Chuck Clayton?"
Kevin: "You're going on a date with Chuck?"
Betty: "He's kind of a player..."
Veronica: "Who cares? He's the hottest of hot! And he's the varsity football coach's son: in Riverdale, that's like dating a Kennedy."
Peter: "Yeah, but..."
Veronica: "Awe, don't tell me you're jealous~"
Peter: "What? No, it's not it. I'm just confused: he's a jerk, you know?"
Veronica: "Nah, I don't think he's that bad."
Peter: "Oh, believe me, I know the likes of Chuck. Listen, don't pick this on the wrong side but, I think you could pick better than him."
Kevin: "What do you mean 'the likes of Chuck'?"
Peter: "I mean the type of guys who rule the school and manage to do whatever they want without taking the consequences. I've known them all my life, so believe me when I say that Chuck is a huge bad idea."
Veronica: *smiles* "I'll take this in consideration, but I think that it's up to me to decide."
Peter: "As I said, don't pick it on the wrong side: I'm just giving an advice to a friend."
Veronica: *kisses his cheeck* "I know that you did it because you care, thank you. But don't worry, I'll be fine."
Peter: *blushes deep red* "Y-Yeah yeah, o-of course!"
Veronica: *giggles, pinches his cheeck* "Aren't you a cutie when you're embarassed!"
Later in the day Betty called Peter and Jughead inside the school Paper, the Blue and Gold
Jughead: "If print journalism is dead, what are we doing here?"
Peter: "Well, to give Betty a hand, of course."
Betty smiled at Peter's response, then started talking
Betty: "The Blue and Gold isn't dead, Juggie, just dormant, but waking up. You're writing a Novel, right? About Jason Blossom's murder?"
Jughead then started messing with a glass, pointing it to her
Jughead: "I am: Riverdale's very own 'In Cold Blood'."
Betty: "And, Pete, do you might still have that camera?"
Peter put a hand on his chest and made a surprised face, faking being hurt by her statement
Peter: "Oh, Betty, you think I would ever throw away the best birthday present you gave me? I'm offended."
Betty: *giggles* "Sorry. Ehm, so I was hoping that you, Jughead, since your Novel started as a series of articles, could come write for the Blue and Gold. And that you, Pete, would deal with the photos for our articles." *fidgeting with her hands*
While Peter was smiling, ready to help her friend, Jughead wasn't so thrilled with the idea
Jughead: "I don't know, B, I just don't think the school paper's the right fit
for my voice."
Betty: "Juggy, Jason's death changed Riverdale. People don't wanna admit that, but it's true, we all feel it. Nothing this bad was ever supposed to happen here, but it did. I wanna know why."
Jughead thought for a moment about this, then he crossed his arms and spoke
Jughead: "Will I get complete freedom?"
Betty: "I'll help, and edit, and suggest...but it's your story: it's your voice."
Jughead: "Doesn't sound like complete freedom..."
He, then, looked between hers and Peter's hoping eyes, and a smirk covered his face
Jughead: "...but I'm in."
Betty: "You, Pete?"
Peter: *scoffs* "Of course I'm in, Betty, who do you think I am? It's been a bit since I used that camera, but I'm happy to be able to use it for more than fun."
Betty: "Okay, great! Ehm, in that case, I have your first assignment: there's one person who was at the river on July 4th that no one's talking about..."
Jughead: "Dilton Doley."
Peter: "The one leading the scouts?"
Jughead: *nods* "Precisely."
A/N here it is, guys, part 2 of the third episode. Sorry I'm late, I'm having a couple of difficulties between home and University...let's just say I wasn't in the mood in these days. To apologise I worked on something I'll upload tomorrow to the poster and opening page: it's a trailer for the fanfic. So stay tuned and tell me your thoughts on this chapter, bye fellas! โค
