I Need To Apologize

// Gabriel //
Sam didn't get enough sleep, Gabriel knew that for sure. There had been constant movement from Sam's side of the bed, multiple sightings of the bathroom light turning on, and Sam talking to himself the night before.
"Sam, did you," Gabriel steeled himself, Sam could get defense quick. "did you get up a lot and talk to yourself last night? I thought I heard all that."
"And if I did?" Sam questioned.
"I'd like to know."
"Yes, okay? I was. You happy now?" Sam said, biting his lip and looking in a different direction every two seconds.
Gabriel grabbed Sam's shoulder, making him unable to avoid eye contact. "Don't be snarky with me. You're going to apologize to Dean and Cas when we get to the hospital, because they're your brother and his soon-to-be-husband. Can you do that?"
Sam mumbled a 'yes, I can' and left the room. He came back with his jacket and keys, now ready to leave for the hospital. Dean would only be there for a couple more days, but the two still needed to go.
"I'm his brother, he's Dean's fiancé's brother." Sam said, reaching out to sign the clipboard once again.
"Same as yesterday, you're all good to go." The nurse replied.
Gabriel could tell Sam was nervous to speak to Dean and Cas, but he wouldn't mention anything. It wasn't like it was going to help. "Hey, Cas. Good morning, Dean." Gabe said, walking to his brother.
"Hi, Gabe. He's still, uh- the painkillers are wearing off a bit. He probably isn't going to be like he was yesterday." Cas responded, hugging Gabe.
"I wasn't that out of it, Cas." That caused Gabriel to laugh, and he wasn't even going to try and hide it. "Mornin' to you, too." Dean grumbled.
"Dean, you flipped out when I went to go get my lunch. Then you threatened to make Sam-" Cas began.
"Don't finish that sentence. It was my fault, anyways. Cas and Dean, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all of that. I was being an ass. Can we just put that behind us? And so that Dean doesn't have to make that threat come to life?" Sam cut in. He hadn't said anything until then.
Cas looked at Dean, almost as if he was asking if he agreed. He must've been doing so, because Dean nodded. "Then, yes. We're sorry too. It was ignorant of me to yell at you for wanting to keep Dean and I safe, even though you weren't there."
"And Sam? I'm sorry. I shouldn't have threatened any of you in the first place, no matter how much I hated the arguing." Dean chimed in, rubbing the back of his neck.
"No, I get it. I would've done the same. Now, how about we do something?" Sam pulled a deck of cards out of the back pocket of his jeans, waving them in his hand.
Gabriel grabbed the deck, shuffling them using the bridge method. "Sure. So, what're we gonna play?"
"What about trash?" Dean suggested.
Gabe stares at Dean, not knowing what he was talking about. "Wait, trash? How the hell do you play that?!"
Castiel moved to sit next to Dean on his bed, taking the cards from his brother. "Here, Dean and I can play and show you. It's simple, once you know how it works."
Sam looked to be confused as well, so the two just sat and watched the game begin. Dean won the first round of the game, but Castiel came out on top, winning the last two.
"We've gotta have two decks for all of us to play. Don't suppose you have another?" Dean asked, rounding up the cards.
Sam and Gabe shook their heads, but Castiel got up. "I think we have one in the car, unless you stored them once we moved in."
Dean shrugged and said he didn't think he had, so Cas went out to the Impala. He came back with a box, one that was practically falling apart.
"They old cards?" Sam asked, noticing the peeling edges of the folded corners.
"Yes. They were my mom's favorite, too. She would use them when she would play solitaire. I picked up the same habit a few years back." Castiel replied, his hand finding Dean's across the pale sheets.
Everyone had fallen into silence, the sound of shuffling cards and shallow breaths the only thing heard. This is, until Gabriel remembered something. "Wait, Cas. I thought Mom had taken that deck with her, right before she passed."
"Uhh- I thought she did, Gabe. Until I found them in her drawer, when Dad wanted me to go through it for anything I might've wanted to keep. Didn't he do the same for you?" Cas looked up from the cards in his hand.
Gabriel groaned, reaching forward to put a card down. "I think. Probably. I just thought the deck was lost for good."
"Oh." Castiel said, glancing back down at the table.
The quiet fell over them once more, and no one disturbed it. There was a familiar feeling, too. One such as the longing to see the parents that had passed away. Sure, it had been years, but that doesn't mean that you just start to forget about them. Gabriel couldn't take it; he hadn't thought about this nearly as much since he was a child.
"Gabe? You're- you're crying." Sam began, wiping Gabriel's face with a tissue.
Cas and Dean looked at Gabe, both of them looking frantic. "I guess I am. I'm just missing Mom. It's been forever, but I guess it still hurts a bit. Can we- can we go, Sam?" Gabriel cried, pawing at his red and blotchy face.
Castiel was the one to answered the question, not Sam. "Go, Gabe. It's alright. I have my days, too. Just don't- don't let it get to you again. Come and see one of us, or talk about it. Okay?"
Gabe sighed, tears no longer flowing down. "Okay, okay. We'll see ya when Dean's discharged from the hospital."
Dean and Cas both agreed, leaving Sam and Gabriel to exit the room.
A/N-
oOF- ITS BEEN TWENTY SIX DAYS SINCE AN UPDATE, YOU DESERVE THIS CHAPTER! (but don't expect more for a hot minute, I'm still trying to get some things figured out.)
Anyways-
Hey everyone!
Hopefully this chapter wasn't too sad...I debated putting in the part about their mother, but felt that it could be a good addition.
Any comments or thoughts (constructive and/or positive things, please!) on this chapter?
Hope y'all are having a great day/afternoon/night/anything!
I think that's it for today.
