CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO

Mary Jane's POV

M.J. was beside herself with stress as she ran out of ideas to try to get Sidney and herself out of this damn taxi. She had unbound herself from the ropes around her wrists and ankles and had gotten the duct tape off her mouth, though her cries for help were barely heard over the pandemonium from below.

They were trapped eighty stories above the ground. They couldn't get out of this car no matter how much they tried.

Sidney had stopped sobbing hysterically but she was now just curled in the corner of the backseat, quivering from terror. She had a paralyzing fear for heights and had tried screaming out the window for help from anyone; the second she looked down, though, she had whimpered and reeled back into the vehicle as she grew dizzy. And now she was frozen with dread of what was to come next.

Mary Jane had done everything she could to keep the younger girl calm but it hadn't worked at all. She couldn't blame her at all after she'd heard the story of their monster breaking into her home and hurting her parents before knocking her out. She could only hope that Aidan hadn't been harmed or taken as well, as that would be downright inhumane of whoever the fuck had put them here right now.

When Sidney had relayed this information, she had been borderline hysterical and there was a sliver of insanity in those normally soft eyes.

"Sidney?" she murmured carefully, but all she got was Sidney staring into space, hugging her knees to her chest as she violently trembled. "Sidney... please..."

"A-Are we going to die, M.J?" Sidney whimpered as her hands balled into fists around her legs, chewing on her lower lip so hard it nearly bled.

"What?! No!" Mary Jane exclaimed softly with a shake of her head as she scooted closer to Sidney, carefully reaching out to her so as to not frighten her. She put her hands on her shoulders and squeezed gently to comfort her. "Don't ever say that. We won't die. I'll make sure of it. You're going to get out of here.... It's going to be okay, Sid."

She then cupped the young girl's face in her hands so she could look her in the eye, her expression one of determination. "Sidney... I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. You hear me? Nothing will happen to you. Not on my watch."

Sidney just looked into her friend's eyes and burst into quiet sobs of desperation, holding onto Mary Jane tightly and shaking horribly. "I'm so scared..." she cried softly.

"I know..." Mary Jane murmured as she hugged her tightly and protectively. "I know, honey... I'm scared, too."

Before either of them could get the chance to say another word, they heard a sharp snapping sound that made the car wobble. They both went completely tense, their muscles freezing in place, the pupils in their eyes dilating. Mary Jane instinctively tightened her hold on Sidney as the girl buried her face in her neck, murmuring "It's all right, it's all right" even though another web around the car snapped as well.

The worst, bone-chilling laughter emanated all around them, making the two of them shiver where they sat. They squeezed their eyes shut as the car creaked and their monster cackled devilishly, waiting for anything or anyone to strike.

And then it all stopped.

Everything went silent. Not even the crowd below could be heard from where they were. You could hear a pin drop.

Mary Jane and Sidney slowly opened their eyes and prepared to sigh with relief.

And then the car began to plummet.

High-pitched screams left them both at the same time as they frantically searched for something to hold onto. Sidney was thrown to the other side of the cab and she just barely managed to grab onto the handlebar – which she always called the 'Oh, shit!' bar whenever scary moments happened in a car – and brace her feet on the floorboard when the rear of the vehicle caught on one of the black webs, making it swing upside-down like a pendulum.

They screamed even louder and they felt their stomachs somersaulting in a way that nearly made them feel sick. Mary Jane figured it had to be a good twenty-five stories they were falling before another part of the web caught their descent, but the rough impact made them yelp as well as Sidney's shoulder smacked the window. The redhead grabbed her to keep them still as the cab wobbled before stilling.

Mary Jane let out a sigh of frustration and crawled up to the front seat of the taxi, lifting her right foot as she began kicking at the windshield, trying to get it to crack and shatter. It did splinter a tiny bit, creating a web of cracks that ignited her hope.

And she then finally heard the crowd below. Only they weren't screaming. They were cheering and chanting... "SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN!"

In a matter of seconds, just as all sense of hope had almost become lost forever, Mary Jane saw him clear as day. Spider-Man. Peter. And he was swinging high upward while Sidney crawled into the front passenger seat to get a look at what was going on, having just barely heard the crowd as well despite how hard it was to hear.

And Peter, clad in full Spider-Man getup, landed in a crouch on the front hood of the car, looking straight at the two of them.

Mary Jane, despite their earlier animosity, sighed with relief. "Peter..." she whispered, letting it slip. "They're gonna kill all of us."

And she realized that she'd messed up.

Sidney looked at the redhead with her eyes wide with surprise... and then towards Spider-Man, processing what she'd heard. "Peter?!" she exclaimed, finally registering the hero's actual identity.

"I'll explain later, Sid," Peter mumbled through the windshield but loud enough for them to hear. "I'm gonna get you two out of this."

But their eyes had grown wide with pure petrification and they both shrieked, "WATCH OUT!!!"

_____

Peter's POV

His spine went rigid and the alarm bells began to scream in his head, his hair standing on end and his eyes went wide under the lenses of his mask. But that wasn't because of his Spider-Sense... it was because of Sidney and Mary Jane warning him. He just barely had time to get out of the way but it was futile. He was knocked against the windshield with such force that he unintentionally took out the entire roof of the taxi.

He clung to the trunk door of the car with one hand and looked up, hardly being able to climb onto the trunk to see the same creature he'd seen on the television. His suit was already torn in places thanks to the glass and debris.

Venom was on the car's hood and looking like an absolute demon, which made him shiver in a rare presentation of fear. He was even hesitant to strike at whoever the hell this was and he knew it right then... he was unsure if he could take this thing in a fight.

The symbiote then peeled back from its face while chuckling sinisterly and he saw a familiar face that made him go rigid with shock. There was no way...

"Hey, Parker..." Eddie Brock snarled at him with a fanged grin, his eyes on fire with sadistic glee.

"My God..." Peter whimpered with terror, his voice quivering. "Eddie?!"

"Oooh, my Spider-Sense is tingling!" Eddie mumbled with humor in his voice before shooting black webs towards the front passenger seat.

Sidney yelped with fright as the webs snaked around her and yanked her towards Eddie, the worst kind of fear in her eyes as she landed next to him, feeling his slimy and clawed hand around her throat, making her gasp for air.

"If you know what I'm talking about..." Eddie rasped with the most sickening pride, jabbing a hooked finger right in Sidney's direction.

Peter, instantly understanding the implication of Eddie's words, howled with rage and leapt at him to get him away from Sidney – She's a child, you sick fuck! he thought furiously – but he was swiped out of the way and he descended a few dozen feet towards another web. He tried to shoot a web of his own but the wind had been fully knocked out of him and he felt dizzy from being taken off guard.

He landed on the web and recovered, spinning around to try and leap back up. But his wrists were bound by more webs that felt like the worst, most repulsive ropes. He grunted with the effort to free himself but it was no use. These webs were even more impossible to break through than his were.

Eddie had thrown Sidney into the back seat of the taxi before leaping down towards Peter, a snarl leaving him as he glided through the air in a near graceful arc. It would have impressed Peter had they not been in an incredibly dangerous situation.

Eddie landed right on top of Peter and yanked his mask off, making him feel the freezing night air on his face. He could even feel a few raindrops from the sky as thunder rumbled in the distance, making the moment so much more eerie right when the screams of Sidney and Mary Jane echoed through the air as one of the webs holding the taxi snapped again, making the car tilt to where it hung horizontally.

Peter then stared back at Eddie nervously, feeling the utmost guilt of having caused this. "We can find a way to settle this..." he mumbled with the firmest voice he could muster.

Eddie heard the shake in Peter's words, however, since he smirked and nodded his head vigorously in agreement. "You're so right," he said sarcastically, pretending to think about it. "I'm thinking... humiliation. Kinda like how you humiliated me. Do you remember?"

Peter couldn't bring himself to look away from Eddie as he felt even more guilt plaguing his soul. He remembered, alright. He remembered what he had done. He had gotten Eddie fired for faking pictures of him as Spider-Man while under the symbiote's influence. But he had a good enough reason to do so. Eddie had been a dirty liar in his place of work while Peter never lied. Symbiote or not, he would have gotten him fired for that no matter what.

And yeah, he had taken Gwen Stacy to that jazz club but the only person he'd wronged in that scenario was Christina, not Eddie. Gwen was never his girlfriend!

"Do you remember what you did to me?" Eddie repeated more harshly, gritting his fanged teeth furiously. His face was reddening with pure anger to the point that it damn near scared Peter.

And then Peter heard another snap from above... but not from a web. A massive work truck above the taxi had had its trunk disengaged and massive cinderblocks were dropping towards the girls. They barely managed to duck out of the way as one of the blocks completely took out the front passenger door. Peter could clearly hear Sidney's whimper of distress after having dived back into the front seat, making his heart almost explode with fear for her.

And Eddie, like the fucking bastard he was, merely chuckled.

"You made me lose my girl..." Eddie continued with the dumbest, most gleeful grin on his stupid face. "So... I'm gonna take everyone you love away from you tonight.... And, when she gets here, I'm gonna make you lose your girl."

Peter knew what he meant and his breathing quickened with terror and he frantically struggled against the webs around his wrists. He desperately hoped Christina would not come here, since she probably knew about what was going on. He didn't want her to get involved, not again. She was already hurting enough as it was. He wanted her to be as safe as possible.

"How's that sound, sweet boy?" Eddie finished sadistically, cocking an eyebrow at what he believed was a sickening pet name for Peter Parker here.

Peter briefly glanced up at the taxi and saw something astonishing. Sidney... gentle, fierce, innocent young Sidney was holding up one of the cinderblocks high over her head with Mary Jane's assistance. It seemed that the redhead was helping her aim correctly and the young girl clearly struggled to hold it due to how heavy it was. But that determination was in her insane eyes.

She's so brave, Peter thought as his heart warmed with admiration for Christina's little sister.

The symbiote covered Eddie's face again and Venom drew back a clawed hand as it hissed at Peter.

Right on cue – bless her soul –, Sidney didn't just drop the cinderblock. She threw it right at the back of Venom's skull.

Seconds later, the block fell like a flying and living bullet before shattering into smithereens against Venom's head, making it howl with pain. That gave Peter a split second to yank one of his wrists out of the web and snatch it up, making it screech in response out of pure outrage.

_____

Sidney's POV

After a few minutes, during which Peter had gotten into a brawl with Venom and had plummeted all the way to the ground, Sidney could only watch it happen. There was nothing she and Mary Jane could do but watch all of it, and they watched with terror as he painfully landed on the sandy ground.

Sand...

She remembered having seen several S.W.A.T people being taken out by a giant sand monster and she went tense with dread. Peter had landed right in the last place he should have ended up. She seized up and peered down, screaming, "PETER, GET OUT OF THERE!"

She didn't know if he could hear her but she certainly heard something loud and echoing in her good ear, making her and Mary Jane simultaneously turn their heads upward. Just in time to see the big truck above them give way and begin to fall.

"Shit!" Sidney shrieked, grasping Mary Jane's hand and moving towards the gap of the now gone taxi door. She felt sick as she stared all the way down... eight hundred feet.... Just looking that far down made her feel dizzy with nausea. If she jumped to the ground, she would die upon impact if Peter didn't save her. She had to come up with something quick, and she only had a few seconds.

"We have to jump!" she cried as she braced herself.

"Sidney, wait, let me –" Mary Jane mumbled but Sidney had already looked behind them to see the truck plummeting towards them incredibly fast.

"No time to argue!" she screamed before leaping out of the taxi, putting too much pressure on her right ankle in the process, which made her cry out in pain as she twisted it.

"Sidney! Goddamn it!" Mary Jane shouted with desperation before jumping almost instantly after her, the truck taking out the taxi half a second later.

It was very lucky that the both of them grasped the same strand of webbing in midair, catching their fall as destruction occurred below them. Sidney squeezed her eyes shut and ducked her head to where her chin pressed against her chest, whimpering with terror as her good eardrum was nearly blown out by all of the incredibly loud noise echoing around her. She couldn't even see the taxi landing twenty stories below them in yet another web.

"Hang on, it's okay!" Mary Jane yelled over to her, barely managing to place a hand on the girl's back to soothe her. But her voice wavered with fear as well.

Before either of them could come anywhere close to feeling relief that nothing else was falling towards them, they were suddenly trembling violently as they heard the loudest rumbling sound. It sounded like the buildup to a volcano erupting with lava. Sidney risked the tiniest peek and saw that the sandy area below was moving in its entirety; it was something straight out of the scariest monster movie – the first thing that came to mind was that one movie that Kevin Bacon was in where monsters came up out of the ground in the west. Tremors, that was it.

An explosion of sound came below as the sand formed into what looked like a mountain and a human hand was formed from the grains.

Sidney could only watch in heart-stopping petrification as the figure slowly built up more and more to where it towered over the thousands of cowering citizens below. It had to be well over three hundred feet tall. And, when it threw a life-ending punch in Peter's direction on the ground, the girl screamed with fright, not even seeing that he'd leaped out of the way.

The force of that punch made the web that she and M.J. were on give way, making them yelp as their hearts nearly gave out, and Sidney just barely heard Peter bellow, "HANG ON, GIRLS!"

Seconds later, though, their grips on the web strand slipped, making them wail with horror as they descended a good two hundred and fifty feet in a matter of just five seconds. They kept getting knocked into web after web before landing in a large one, catching them and making them freeze so that they wouldn't cause another commotion.

Sidney was rigid with horror as she desperately grasped one of the strands with next to her, holding onto it as if it were her lifeline. She was frazzled, her hair a tangled mess and her blue pajamas rumpled and creased. She kept her eyes shut, not being able to bring herself to look down.

But Mary Jane was looking down, seeing Peter (who was very much still alive) with mask back on swinging up to them. He had gotten past the humanoid sand figure and was right about to reach them, making her smile with comfort. It was familiar territory for her, she'd been saved by him on multiple occasions. But her main hope was that he would prioritize Sidney's safety first, as she was the most vulnerable of the two of them. She was just a child, a sweet and innocent child. She was the least deserving of this.

Right as Peter was about to reach them – his hand even brushed against Mary Jane's outstretched one–, he was catapulted out of the way by Venom and his spine bent over a part of the construction, making both girls wince after Sidney's eyes opened.

They then saw him get knocked onto a flat rebar of some kind and he was struggling to stand.

_____

Peter's POV

After Peter had gotten to his feet, the only sight he was met with was the even taller towering figure of the Sandman as it roared directly at him. Under his mask, his eyes were wide with stark terror and he felt very pale. He knew right then and there that he was fucked, there was no imaginable way that he could fight this one creature alone, let alone two of them.

For the very first time in his life, Spider-Man felt entirely vulnerable. He didn't feel like the greatest superhero in the world. He felt like a tiny bug. He was just another human against this abomination. He was completely horror struck. He couldn't move. He couldn't breathe.

There was nothing he could do against Flint Marko.

To prove his point more, his oxygen was cut off entirely as Venom's webs snaked around his neck, yanking him down against the rebar. He struggled against the strand of webbing but it was no use. It was so much stronger than he could even think of being and it was strangling him; he coughed and choked as he spasmed with panic.

He could only watch as Sandman raised a gigantic fist into the air.

And he brought it down upon Peter's entire body.

Peter Parker felt several bones crack in his ribs, back, hips, and knees and he couldn't even cry out in agony. His voice failed him as bits of his mask ripped, revealing his face. The sand was also stinging his barely open eyes as he still tried to struggle against the web; he couldn't give up now, he couldn't! He had people to save, his friends... his loved ones. The people he cared about so much.

All futile attempts to escape were then permanently cut off when Sandman brought his fist down again. Peter went limp and lost most of his consciousness. His mind was a blur and he was barely breathing and his heartbeat was beginning to slow down. He could only faintly hear the snapping of webs as the taxi above threatened to fall on Mary Jane and Sidney.

But they didn't care. They were looking down at him.

While there were unshed tears in Mary Jane's eyes that she was trying so hard to hold back, Sidney couldn't hold back hers. Her face was scrunched into an expression of the worst kinds of misery and tears were falling freely down her face. The redhead was attempting to shield the young girl's eyes so she wouldn't have to watch the terrible sight below them, but Sidney couldn't help but stare at the horror unfolding.

And then, just when he thought it couldn't get worse, he heard the sound of faint sobs from even higher above. He had to weakly squint but he saw him. Aidan... tiny and scared Aidan. The toddler was looking over the edge of the roof he was on to see the commotion and his heart shattered. He could hardly see him but he knew the baby was distressed and, somehow, Aidan Johnson was able to understand that he couldn't get closer to the edge.

Peter reached out weakly for all three of them, shuddering breaths leaving his lips. He saw their faces twisted into several different expression: Aidan looked shocked, Sidney looked miserable... and Mary Jane looked defeated.

His hand shook as he tried to reach out to them, to say he was sorry he couldn't save them, to comfort them in his final moments.

But Sandman struck him again, and his arm dangled off the side of the rebar, completely rendering him unconscious for a split second. He just barely opened his eyes again as more bones cracked.

He saw Sandman raise his fist again and he knew he couldn't take another strike. This was it. He was about to die. But he was prepared to. He knew he couldn't fight. He was accepting it all.

He saw Christina's lovely face in his mind and he could only think of her... the only girl that had been able to accept him for who he was when he was young... her sweet and tender heart... those striking blue eyes of hers... her ethereal blonde hair... her soft lips and the way they felt against his.

I love you, Chris... he thought in regards to her, hoping that she would know when she found out about his death. And he squeezed his eyes shut.

But all that came was a grunt of confusion from the monster above him. And he didn't bring his fist down onto Peter.

And then there was the sound of rapid beeping.

And then...

BOOM!

An explosion like no other rang in Peter's ears and he opened his eyes fully for just a moment to see what had happened. The entire left side of Sandman's face had been blown to smithereens, sending millions of grains of sand all over the place as the crowd below erupted in applause of shock and relief. He saw the sand remaining in Flint's face become charred and smoldered, which permanently surprised him.

He feebly lifted his eyebrows as he saw a figure rushing towards him from a distance... on a familiar glider. And he saw not one, but two people atop it, though he could hardly make out their faces. They were coming towards him so fast that they were a blur of speed.

Mary Jane and Sidney also seemed to turn their heads at once to see who had prevented Peter's death. When they squinted through the blur of the two figures, they saw a glimpse of one of them... and their hair was blonde. They grinned madly with relief once they noticed this detail.

In a matter of seconds, though, after hearing Venom's cry of startlement, the webs around Peter's throat were detached and he gasped for precious air as the creature below him was knocked through several brick walls, incapacitating it.

Peter closed his eyes and tried to catch his breath, sluggishly reaching for his throat to massage it since there would no doubt be a bruise there for some time. He let out a weak cough and felt his strength ever so slowly start returning to him.

He then heard a soft whirring sound coming from his right as well as the disengaging of something mechanical and shuffling. He slowly turned his head and grunted with the effort, staring up at whoever the hell had come to save him. Unsurprisingly, he saw Harry Obsorn's scarred face staring back at him... and... and...

Christina...

Clad in a pitch black leather uniform with a belt at the waist equipped with a various amount of guns and knives, Christina Johnson stared down at Peter with a hardened gaze that was gentle nonetheless. Her jaw was tight with determination and she used her metal prosthetic hand to remove safety goggles from her face, which were used to protect her eyes from the rushing winds. Her blonde hair was tied back to get it out of her face; her human arm was wrapped tightly with gauze and her metal hand was freely exposed for the first time, not concealed by a glove.

Peter could see in her eyes that she had been the one to throw the pumpkin bomb at Sandman.

She looked nothing like the Christina that Peter knew so well. But this Christina was absolutely who he needed to see right now.

"You... You came..." he whispered weakly to the both of them, amazed.

Christina just faintly smiled and, along with Harry, extended her hand to Peter... her prosthetic hand. Her expression, while fierce, was soft and caring. Though she was still angry with him for different reasons, she was willing to put that grudge aside this one time. She was calling a truce with all three of them.

Peter smiled.

And he grasped both of their hands incredibly tightly, implementing a tiny bit of his super-strength.

The both of them grinned in return and helped him to his feet.

"You alright there, Pete?" Christina mumbled as she looked him over, seeing that he looked like a complete mess.

"Yeah..." replied Peter as he continued to catch his breath from what he'd just been through, the cracks in his bones already mending.

"Looks like we got here just in the nick of time," said Harry.

Peter nodded. "A couple minutes ago wouldn't have been so bad either..."

They all laughed as Harry shrugged. "What're you gonna do?"

A maddening screech came from behind Peter and they looked in the direction of Venom for just a second... and then a thunderous roar came from behind Christina and Harry.

_____

Christina's POV

She twisted around on Harry's glider as best as she could despite the harness she was wearing that was attached to a hook on the back of his uniform. Her eyes went wide when she saw Sandman towering over her and frantically pulled her goggles back on. Her determination to put all of this to a stop and save her family took over all sense of blinding panic as she yanked out a double-barrel shotgun that she'd gotten from her father's closet.

She frantically disengaged it for a moment to make sure it was loaded correctly, and it was. Both shells were in there and she cocked it again, getting ready to fire whenever Harry told her to.

"I may need some help over here!" Peter shouted over to the two of them, his voice wavering with uncertainty.

"We're a little busy right now!" Harry called back, his voice also a little shaky as he and Christina tried to mentally prepare themselves for the task at hand.

A deafening screech sounded in Christina's ears just as Sandman advanced to them, and she pointed the gun straight at his face.

"GIVE ME YOUR HAND!" Harry cried to Peter.

Peter instantly leapt backwards and grasped Harry's hand as the glider spun counterclockwise, making Christina stumble the tiniest bit as Harry launched him towards Venom, shoving the creature towards a near finished ceiling to briefly get it out of the way. In the process, Harry carefully let Peter go so he could swing freely before spinning back around to face Sandman.

"NOW, CHRIS!" bellowed Harry.

Christina carefully squeezed the trigger of the shotgun before madly firing it twice.

KA-BOOM! KA-BOOM!

Sandman roared with pain as the bullets struck his eyes in small explosions, and Harry followed suit by tilting the glider they were on and letting it emit flames right at Sandman's raised arm that he was using to shield his face. The flames turned the sand into glass that the two of them instantly struck, making it shatter into hundreds of pieces.

However, the arm reformed in a matter of seconds and Sandman bellowed with fury as he tried to snatch the two of them on the glider.

"Gotcha!" Peter grunted as he grasped both Harry's and Christina's arms with one hand to jerk them out of Sandman's way, which was good because the part of the building behind them was shattered seconds later. He guided them to be a safe distance from the monster and Christina placed the shotgun back into her belt to focus more on her personal task at hand.

She peered upward to where she knew Mary Jane and Sidney laid in the web. And she looked further up.

The taxi above them had made the webs holding it up break apart entirely, making it fall towards them.

Christina's heart stopped with terror as she screamed, "SIDNEY!!!!!"

"PETE, UP TOP!" Harry shouted at the top of his lungs as he began to ascend the height of the building with Christina just in time to see Mary Jane grab Sidney on the web and roll them out of the way to shield her.

The taxi plummeted past them and all the way down to the ground but the layer of web was destroyed. They cried out with horror as they rolled off of it and M.J. could only hold onto the tiniest rope of webbing. Sidney slid past her and nearly free fell but the redhead used her free hand to grasp hers inhumanly tightly.

"Shit, shit, shit!" Sidney shrieked desperately as her whole body quivered with the worst kind of dread.

"HOLD ON, I'VE GOT YOU, SID!" Mary Jane screamed and Christina thought back to the World Unity festival three years ago when Mary Jane

prevented her friend's death by using the hand she was using to already grip Christina's to hold her up and away from the ground, interfering with the blonde's fall. The force of Christina slipping past her and dangling beneath her made it much more difficult to hold onto her, but she didn't dare let go.

"Oh, fuck! Oh, fuck!" Christina yelled out of fear, her legs crumpling upward to try to avoid falling even further. Out of curiosity, she looked down – she noticed that her black slip-on shoes had lost their grip on her feet and they were tumbling down to the ground that seemed an infinite distance away. Her eyes were swimming with both tears of pure fear and dizziness and she began to feel lightheaded, her arm that Mary Jane was holding onto growing sore with the effort.

"I got you, Chris!" Mary Jane shouted down to her, making the blonde glance up at her

as she reached into a pocket in the harness and withdrew a long cable that she could attach to the back of Harry's harness and her own. She detached herself from him and engaged the cable right before helping him grab Peter's hand to heave him onto the glider in front of her.

Now an official team of three, Christina Johnson, Harry Osborn, and Peter Parker glided upward as fast as they could, seeing the two of them dangling desperately just out of reach. The blonde was mumbling to herself in a panic and she was clearly shaking, her breathing uneven as her sights were solely set on her little sister. She had to get to her, she just had to! She couldn't let her die. She had to save her, she needed her to live her life.

Why, oh why had this happened to her?!?!

She could briefly hear Sidney shout something to Mary Jane along the lines of "Let go, they'll catch us!" before seeing the redhead reluctantly letting her grip on the rope of web slip.

Christina's heart plummeted along with both of the girls as they rapidly fell past them, hers and Peter's screams for them falling on deaf ears as they continued to fall. Harry rapidly turned the glider back around and sped towards them and past Sandman as he tried to reach for all three of them.

Christina positioned herself on the glider and was prepared to jump towards Sidney to catch her fall, gritting her teeth with pure anxiety.

"THIS THING GOT ANYMORE?!" Peter screamed towards Harry, wanting them to gain speed.

"HANG ON!"

"TO WHAT?!?!" both Christina and Peter retorted simultaneously as they skidded past Sandman's shoulder, gaining as much speed as they could. They were getting closer to Sidney and Mary Jane but they needed to get the cue to catch them fast, as they were only two hundred feet of the ground. They had less than five seconds to get them or it would be too late.

One hundred feet.

"GO, GUYS!" Harry bellowed and Christina braced herself for a millisecond before making her leap.

Her arms found Sidney and she gripped her tightly with her metal arm, showing no sign of dropping her as her free hand grasped the cable just as Peter caught Mary Jane and shot a web towards the glider. She could hear her little sister's whimpers of distress as her smaller arms gripped her as much as she could while they were lifted upward.

She got her.

She had her in her arms.

Sidney was safe...

Mary Jane was safe.... They were both safe!

Harry got all four of them to a higher level of the building and swung them inward and their feet landed on the floor. Christina instantly unhooked herself from the cable and held Sidney to her incredibly tightly as she sobbed, breaking down into tears of relief. The two sisters cried and clutched each other desperately.

"Sidney..." Christina whimpered as she tried to stay strong for the much younger girl as she felt her trembling with fright. "I-I-It's alright... I've got you... Shhh..."

"Chris... Christina..." Sidney cried softly as she buried her face in her neck, sniffing as tears rapidly fell down her cheeks. It was the most scared she'd ever been in her life and she could barely function with the fear of dying she'd just felt.

"Are y'all okay?" Peter asked all three of them, to which Mary Jane replied with a soft "Yeah," clearly shaken but she had recovered the fastest. She refused to leave Christina and Sidney's side, her hand still on the young girl's back to comfort her.

While Sidney couldn't answer, Christina just nodded and gulped as she looked Peter in the eye. "Yeah..." she whispered, holding back more tears. "Thank you..."

Peter merely nodded, not needing to say another word. He understood.

"HEY, YOU TWO!" came Harry's voice, bringing all four of them out of the moment as they looked in his direction. "AM I INTERRUPTING?!?!"

And Christina went rigid when she saw that Harry was now knocked off of his glider, barely managing to hold onto the bottom of it. And Sandman's hands were about to crush them.

"Take them and get to Aidan!" Peter shouted to Christina as he leapt off of the floor and swung in Harry's direction, taking out Sandman in a matter of moments.

But it made no difference as, seconds later, Sandman pummeled Peter upward with his fist, making Sidney cry out with fear for her friend.

"PETER!" Christina shrieked as more tears fell but she knew it was no use. He was likely knocked out again and there was nothing she could do. It didn't help that she could hear the sounds of sobbing coming from a few stories up, making the blood in her veins freeze.

"Shit..." she whispered. "Aidan... we've gotta get to Aidan! Come on!"

She scooped Sidney into her arms since her ankle was twisted and she and Mary Jane took off to find her little brother.

A/N: my apologies for being gone for almost three months. damn college!

but it's summer now and I'M BACK. and i'm back with an intense and action-packed chapter! i was originally going to combine this chapter with the following one but i figured that having it be like this was much better, to be honest.

thoughts on this chapter? i tried to make it be as effective as i could with the action and creepy moments.

is venom portrayed more accurately here? i wanted to do my best to make him more comic-accurate.

what about mary jane being the one to constantly protect sidney? the way she slipped up about peter's identity to her, though💀🤣

what did you think about christina no longer being a damsel in distress? she's teaming up with peter and harry! surprise!

predictions for the next chapter?

be looking forward to the next chapter! i PROMISE i won't take so long this time! i hope...
