With icy eyes and straight lips, Yasu Hirota is often stoic and professional, and is undoubtedly very serious about his job. He hardly ever makes any room for small talk or jokes: only ever speaking to ask questions, answer them, or to converse with his co-workers about anything regarding classes. Despite this, however, deep down, he really just wants the best for his students, and if being a little bit harsh to them is what it takes to get his lessons through their thick skulls, then so be it.

β You children are the reason why the thought of having my own running around sickens me. β
β Sakura Mei, put your phone away. Now.Β β
β I'm only thirty years old and yet I feel like considering an early retirement already. β
β Let me guess, Amaya: you need to see the nurse again? β
β Oh for the Lord's sakeβDAE JOON! GET OFF OF THE TABLES AND SIT DOWN LIKE A NORMAL PERSON! WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP TELLING YOU THIS?? β
β Hm. The train's late today ... β
β Of course I have a typewriter. Is there supposed to be something "wrong" with that? β
β You children just never stop talking, do you? It's honestly a little concerning, how so few of you are capable of closing your mouth when a lesson is about to begin. β
β Consider me impressed, Mx. Hiraeth; the amount of detail and skill level in this essay is quite extraordinary. Perhaps Mr. Hoshino may have some competition this year, after all. β
β I can't find my reading glasses. Why does this have to happen every time I'm about to leave. β
β Endo-sama, I am grading papers. You'll get out of my face now if you know what's good for you. β

With a passion to teach and patience that grows thinner everyday within the walls of Yokosuka University, Yasu Hirota isn't one to simply "give up"βespecially if there's a good pay in the mix. However, with the types of students he finds himself dealing with daily, the english professor can't help but feel as though retirement is perhaps a bit too far away for his tastes.
(Seriously, though: couldn't the least stable of his students choose any other university to go to? He was hired to teach them correct grammar and make them write essays, not to deal with their baggage and inner turmoil.)
