𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁 and 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗰 have been rivals since they were kids. there is no greater satisfaction to them than beating the other at anything, whether it be on track or off. despite growing up together and being family friends, they have never quite seen eye to eye. they keep each other on their toes, even if their rivalry gets way too intense at times. take, for instance, their collision at the 2020 spanish grand prix where they got into a heated argument on the side of the track or the press conference after the 2022 dutch grand prix where they were forced on opposite sides of the table after creating a tense and awkward atmosphere with their subtle back-handed comments.

they were both happy to go on with this endless cycle of glares and insults—much to the displeasure of their families and friends—until lennon signs a multi-year contract with ferrari. now they're teammates and they're stuck together. feeling the pressure of being in a top team, lennon finds herself completely alone in the harsh world of formula one. alone except for the jerk she grew up with and the last person she would want to be vulnerable with.

but the thing is, charles knows her way more than they'd both ever like to admit. and even though he finds her pretentious and a nuisance, a part of him can't stand watching her in pain. they've seen each other at their worst and then some. they know each other better than they know themselves. they've spent their entire lives competing against each other, but at some point, one starts to wonder where the line of loathing ends and where the line of adoration begins.

and perhaps, they have both been straddling that line all along.
