1. The Story of Lyra Grimm
This is a story about the mother of Lucius Grimm, a 17 year old boy who was buried alive by his father and killed... however, she refused to accept it.
Lyra Grimm, the mother of Lucius Grimm, comes out of the house and sits right there in the rocking chair in front of her house, humming softly as she begins to knit a "Welcome Home, Lucius" sweater, hope still in her eyes. He'd only been gone for... what? One year? He'd be back.
If it takes forever I will wait for you
For a thousand summers I will wait for you
'Till you're back beside me, 'till I'm holding you
'Till I hear you sigh here in my arms
She had been doing this same exact routine everyday since Lucius had gone missing: get up, eat a little bit, come outside... and waited. Just sat there and hummed her little ditty's as she waited for the day that her son came running back up on those porch steps.
Anywhere you wander, anywhere you go
Every day remember how I love you so
In your heart believe what in my heart I know
That forevermore I'll wait for you
Three years go by... but, it's just 1095 days, right? The police and all her neighbors may say he's gone and dead, but she knows better. He's alive. He's definitely alive... the sweater Lyra knitted had been kept in mint condition, not even a speck of dirt or dust on it. It looked quite fresh for a sweater that had been sitting outside in the freezing cold for two years.
The clock will tick away the hours one by one
And then the time will come when all the waiting's done
The time when you return and find me here and run
Straight to my waiting arms
Lyra keeps up this routine for about six years... six years of just waiting, slowly beginning to lose hope, but faltering she did not. She wanted to be right there when her son came home. But, the problem with this was that she was out in the freezing cold without the proper clothing. She had begun to develop a cough, vomiting, and a high fever. But, she couldn't go inside and rest. She couldn't go to a doctor. What if Lucius came home?
If it takes forever I will wait for you
For a thousand summers I will wait for you
'Till you're here beside me, 'till I'm touching you
And forevermore sharing our love
Her condition got worse and worse, her lungs continuing to begin to fill with fluid from the pneumonia. But, in all honesty, if her Lucius wasn't here... what was the point in going on, anyways? Her husband and daughter were evil and now her little boy was gone. There wasn't any point in living anymore.
Till you're here beside me, 'till I'm touching you
And forevermore I will wait for you
When the coroners were called to the scene of Ms. Grimm's house, it is said that she was still clutching that sweater that she knitted, a small, content smile on her face. She would finally be with her Lucius again...
