"stop, tom," she hiccupped, cutting the actor off. "i just—i can't—i need-i need a minute," she whispered; the titles of dozens of articles and the video replaying in her mind.

from his end of the call, tom could hear the sound of her breath and how the pace of it was quickening. she was beginning to hyperventilate. "hey, just breathe. in and out, all right? in through your nose and out through your mouth." he murmured softly, running his hand over his face as tears began glistening in his eyes again. this was his fault. she was crying and on the verge of a panic attack because of what'd happened.

doing what the brown-haired boy said, amandla squeezed her eyes shut and breathed in and out deeply, counting to ten silently in her head as she was starting to regain control of her breathing. sniffing, she reached up and wiped away the stream of tears rolling down her face. however, just as she got rid of them, another flood replaced their spot.

"is—" amandla began and her voice cracked. squeezing her eyes shut again, she placed her head in her hands and felt her bottom lip tremble. "is it true?" she asked; her words were shaky and broken up as she barely choked out the question, but he heard her loud and clear.

nothing but a tense silence answered the black-haired girl as tom's head dropped on the other end. running a hand down his face once more, he sniffed as tears of his own made their first appearance. there wasn't anything he could say to defend what happened; defend himself. he couldn't find the words to respond, despite every nerve of his being urging him to say something.

"you said—you said you were go-going to a meeting," amandla whispered, tears streaming down her face as she picked up her phone; only showing from her brows and up. there was a sharp pain in her chest as she was finding it harder to breathe. "please tell me that it wasn't you in the video," she pleaded, clenching her free hand into a fist as she weakly hit it against the carpet.

"please say that this isn't happening—that there's something that i-i don't k-know," amandla begged; her voice was strained and the sound of soft hiccups repeatedly interrupted her as she spoke. "please tell me that this is—that this is some sick dream and i'm going to wake up any minute. p-please," her voice was hoarse and all she wanted was for him to tell her that it wasn't him in that video. that he hadn't cheated. that he hadn't lied about where he was last night. that they were okay and everything was going to be okay.

tom bit down on his lip harshly as he heard her sob. he couldn't do what she was asking him to do. the video had shown her everything she needed to know. there was nothing left that he could say to save what they have. he couldn't speak and it pained him that he couldn't say anything. "i—i'm sorry," he choked out, and that was all the confirmation the youtuber needed for the reality that this was actually happening to sink it.

trembling, she wiped away some of her tears and sniffed; holding back the rest of her sobs. "we're over," she stated, her voice cracking.

"amandla—"

"i thought what we had meant something to you like it did to me, but i was wrong. if you didn't want to be together anymore, you could have just told me. you didn't have to—you didn't—i can't even—" taking in a deep breath, she gulped down the harsh words that she wanted to shout at him. she wanted to cuss him out and let him know how upset she was, but she didn't want to lose control like that. despite everything.

wiping away tears of his own, tom licked his lips. "what we have does mean something to me," he mumbled quietly, but she still heard every word.

"if it did, you wouldn't have cheated." she snapped, growing angrier by the second. how could he make out with another girl yet say what they had meant something? it might mean something, but it, or her, wasn't enough to stop him from cheating.

"i'm sorry."

"we're done."

"amandla..."

"i'm being serious, tom. we're done. i don't want to hear from you. i don't want to see you. i don't want to talk to you. i'll give your things to keilah and she will give them to harrison to return to you. whatever you have that's mine, keep it. i don't want it." amandla breathed harshly, sitting up from where she was laying on the floor.

"mandy, please." tom pleaded, standing up from his couch as he began to pace anxiously.

scoffing, amandla shook her head. "please what, tom? what could you possibly say to defend yourself?" she asked, standing up as well.

"i'm sorry."

"i am too. goodbye, tom."

amandlajones⠀i woke up today to thousands of tweets and hundreds of articles circulating a video of tom kissing another girl at a bar last night & saying he cheated. i wanted to address this and set the record straight so there isn't any confusion! tom and i have been broken up for about a month now, but are still close friends and spend time together. we were friends way before we ever dated and that will not change.

neither of us has publicly "announced" our breakup and we weren't going to. at least for a while since it's only been a month. our relationship, despite posting about the other and interacting online, was very private and intimate. i speak for both of us when i say that we prefer to keep our personal relationships and the details of them away from public knowledge. social media & the input of others can really affect relationships and we've done our best to not allow media's interpretation of us to become impactful.

i will forever cherish the memories and adventures we had together. knowing tom has transformed my life in the best possible ways and helped me become a better version of myself. i've learned so much about myself and the world, and i wouldn't change a thing that has happened. however, we are both going in different directions and have realized that in order to grow, we have to let the other go. this is something i am still coming to terms with, but i will be ok.

tom and i are good and still close friends. there are no lines to read between or hidden drama. i love and adore tom's family & will always support them. along with tom.

i take full blame for not informing you all of this when looking back in hindsight, i should have. you have all supported us and that means the world, we are so grateful. i am so sorry for the miscommunication. tom did NOT cheat. he was the most faithful and loyal boyfriend in the world and i couldn't have asked for a better partner.

     i hated writing those twitter comments,,, my heart hurts so much and i'm going to hell. anyway!

     this chapter breaks my heart every time i read it. i am so sorry for all of your tomandla hearts, but i had to. yeahhhh, tommy boy done fucked it the fuck up with our favorite youtube.

     in case anyone is confused about amandla's instagram post, she lied to protect tom and his career. she has a lot of respect for tom and didn't want him to be branded as a cheater and have that label potentially affect his career in the future. that, and she's in love with the bitch so, she lied. can he redeem himself after this??? probably not but we'll see. maybe things aren't as simple as they appear.

     also, this ends on quite a cliffhanger. amandla's dad has cancer and he hid it from their family because he didn't want them to worry. especially since the divorce, valeria and dave haven't been talking.

     this is officially the end of act one! there will be quite a significant time jump in-between acts one and two. i love act two and its storyline, as well as the new characters, new "squads," and new relationships.

     when act two picks up, when it comes to amandla's family, it will not be discussed in-depth. bits and pieces of information will be dropped but it won't become a main focal point until way later on. so, it'll be one of the two "mysteries" carrying throughout the rest of the book.

     act two will be out tomorrow! aka my birthday so it's kind of like my birthday present to all of you, if that makes sense?? probably not.
