THE ELEVATOR DOORS SLID OPEN WITH A DING, EXPOSING THE EMPTY HALLWAY. Wiping away the tears that hadn't stopped falling down her cheeks since her mom left the house that afternoon, the black-haired girl stepped out of the elevator. Dragging the black suitcase behind her, she weakly made her way to room 405.

Ever since last night, there'd been this gaping hole in her chest. A hole that she wasn't even sure could ever be filled again. It felt like she couldn't breathe half the time. There was this heavy ache that kept weighing down on her lungs, only gaining in weight and pressure every time she breathed. Her breaths came out in gasps and short wheezes whenever she cried, as the airflow had become thin and nonexistent.

Feeling the dreadingly familiar sensation of sadness wash over her, she quickened in her pace, the grip on her suitcase tightening. Once she got to the room, she brought her hand up to the door and knocked three times, sniffing as she wiped away as many tears as possible.

From where she stood outside the door, the girl could hear the sound of approaching footsteps. Taking in a deep breath, she exhaled shakily as the door swung open to reveal Zendaya. The latter's facial expression morphed from one of relief at the sight of her best friend to sorrow as she noticed how red and puffy her cheeks and eyes were from crying. Her curly, black hair, that was normally down, was pulled into a messy ponytail and she was dressed in sweats.

The last time she'd seen the girl cry, or this broken down was on the one-year anniversary of Jasmine Bean's death; the girl's best friend in sixth grade.

Amandla wasn't one who got upset over things easily; not unless it was something that meant a lot to her or if her feelings had been hurt by someone important to her. Crying was something that her friends rarely saw from her. Sure, she was easily one of the most compassionate and caring people in their friend group, but she hardly ever shed a tear. So, seeing the girl in this kind of state, was abnormal, but heartbreaking.

The two stood there for a split second without moving or saying a word, just simply staring at the other. It wasn't until Amandla's bottom lip began to tremble that Zendaya immediately pulled her into the room, closing the door behind her, and engulfing her in a tight embrace. Wrapping her arms around her, the black-haired girl buried her head into the crook of her neck. As much as she tried to hold it in, the sobs spilled, and she cried unceasingly into the actress's chest.

The TV that was playing in the background was muted and all sets of eyes landed on the two girls hugging in-front of the shut hotel door. No one knew what to do as they watched Amandla sob into Zendaya's chest, her body shaking softly.

If the situation wasn't so tense and emotional, Tom would have sprinted to Amandla and hugged her, but instead, he stood up from the couch, frozen and worried.

Zendaya hadn't told anyone that the YouTuber was coming back to Atlanta that day, mainly since it'd been a last-minute plan. She'd been expecting to be alone in her hotel room when the girl arrived, that way they could talk in private before she saw anyone else. However, everyone else had different plans and wanted to have a movie night in the actress's hotel room. They'd all shown up at her door ten minutes before Amandla arrived, which wasn't exactly the best timing.

"I'm right here, okay? I'm right here." Zendaya whispered, feeling Amandla hold on tighter to her. "Just breathe. In and out."

Glancing over to Harrison, Tom simply stared at him wide-eyed. The blonde pressed his lips together and looked down at the floor as Amandla continued to cry. Laura, Tony, and Jacob sat on the couch silently, watching the scene unfold before them in anxious silence.

Everyone wanted to know what was going on—what was wrong.

It was silent for a few more minutes before the crying came to a soft stop.

Counting to ten silently, Amandla tried to get her heart-rate and breathing back to normal. Taking in a deep breath, she let it out slowly, her grip on Zendaya loosening. "I feel so stupid for thinking it would work out," she whispered, her voice only audible enough so the actress could hear her. "Holding onto some silly string of hope that things would be fixed, and we'd be able to be happy again."

Frowning, Zendaya pulled away and brought her hands up to the YouTuber's face, cupping her cheeks and wiping away the remaining tears. "Hey, look at me," she said softly, waiting for the black-haired girl to meet her endearing gaze. "Holding onto hope for your family to be healed isn't stupid. Holding onto hope for your parents isn't stupid. You, Amandla Jones, are not stupid for thinking that things would work out. What you thought and hoped for is perfectly normal and human, okay?"

Amandla nodded softly, sniffing. "My mom could barely look me in the eyes when she told me," she spoke quietly, her voice cracking. Wincing at the sound of her voice, she pushed down the rising lump in her throat.

"I don't blame her. Telling your child something like that is probably really hard." Zendaya whispered, tucking the latter's hair behind her ear before lowering her hands.

From the couch, Laura could hear part of the conversation the two were having; a least enough of it to figure out what happened. Standing up, she ignored the confused gazes of Jacob and Tony as she walked to the hotel door where the two other girls stood.

Turning her head at the sound of approaching footsteps, Amandla winced again, noticing the stares of Tom, Harrison, Tony, and Jacob. They'd all just seen her breakdown at one of her most vulnerable moments.

"Divorce?" Laura whispered once she approached the two, not knowing if Amandla wanted anyone else to know just yet. The black-haired girl met her gaze, nodding slightly. Immediately, the actress stepped forward and pulled her into a warm embrace. "I'm so sorry." It took everything in her to not breakdown crying again as she felt Laura's arms tighten around her lovingly. Sniffling, she pulled away and wiped away the remaining tears, forcing a small smile on her face as her eyes connected with Laura's.

"Amandla?" A nervous voice asked, and the two actresses stepped aside. Looking up, the YouTuber's gaze landed on the beautiful Brit who had just called her name. The second their eyes connected; Amandla's vision blurred as another lump rose up in her throat.

Noticing the flood of tears welling in her eyes, Tom quickly jogged over, immediately wrapping his arms around her. The comfort of the brown-haired boy's embrace caused Amandla to relax and secure her arms tightly around his neck. Biting down on her lip, she did her best not to breakdown into another round of sobs as she clung onto the actor as if he was going to leave at any moment.

"I've got you," Tom whispered, running his hand up and down her back comfortingly. "You're safe. It's okay to cry." At the sound of his words, she could feel all the walls around her crumble to the ground and turn into dust. Only five seconds had passed before she let out a tiny whimper and broke down into her second set of sobs.

Tom instinctively tightened his hold and pulled her closer to him, quickly pressing a gentle kiss to the side of her head. "I've got you," he found himself whispering again, wincing at the sound of the beautiful girl's sobs rattling against his chest.

He didn't need to know what was going on or what had triggered this breakdown, all he knew he needed to do was be there for her. And he was going to do whatever it was that could help her; come hell or high water.
