THE VAN PARKED OUT THE FRONT OF THE CHURCH OF LA IGLESIAS. Liam chuckled to himself and the rest of them looked at him confused as he said, "I can't believe I did it. For a minute there, I thought I was gonna tear the three of you apart."
Stiles nodded his head sarcastically. "Yeah. That would've made for an awkward ride home. So, thanks."
"Yeah, we really appreciate you for doing us a solid there." Lucy said sarcastically also as she pulled herself up from the spot on the van floor.
"Do you think you can bring the same level of control and strength inside La Iglesias?" Derek questioned as he also got up.
Liam looked at Derek before at his hands as he brought the claws out. Stiles looked impressed, "Alright. We might actually be able to do this."
Derek crouched over and went towards the back doors, opening them, and his eyes widened as there was a berserker standing just outside the van, waiting for him to open the doors to snatch someone — and that someone was unfortunately Derek.
The berserker grabbed Derek and threw him to the ground, and Lucy's eyes widened as she watched the thing shove Derek against a pile of rocks next to him and begin to pound down on his chest, seeing the dagger in its hand. "Stay here!" She ordered the two teenagers in the van jumped out and ripped the berserker off of her boyfriend before it could stab him in the chest and kill him.
She growled at it as it began to walk towards her and she went to lunge when Braeden came out and began to fire her gun at it until it ran away.
Lucy sent the mercenary an appreciative nod before her attention immediately went to Derek as everyone piled out of their cars and go towards Derek to check on him, who was grunting and struggling to breathe through the pain.
Lucy was by his side in an instant and noticed the blood that was staining his teeth, which usually wasn't a good sign especially if Derek could no longer heal himself. She looked down at his hand, seeing that it was resting there; covering something, she grabbed it gently and moved it to the side, gasping at what she saw.
"How bad is it?" Peter asked in worry over his nephew.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." Derek panted causing Lucy to narrow her eyes at her boyfriend for lying about his health. "Just get to Scott." No body moved and Derek looked at his uncle, he knew that Lucy wouldn't leave his side to save Scott, but someone had to. "Just find him. We'll be right behind you. Go."
Nobody moved again and he yelled out, "Go!" Peter then ran off towards the church and the pack slowly followed, but both Braeden and Stiles stayed behind. Derek looked at both of them and said, "Save him."
The two hesitated to move but Lucy gave them a look to say that she would take care of it and to go. "Don't stress too much right now." Lucy ordered as she began to put pressure on his wound while he groaned out in pain. "We need to stop the blood flow."
"Lucy, it's okay—"
"It's not okay!" Lucy snapped. "You're hurt and I'm not okay with that, and neither should you!"
Derek chuckled at her. "Lydia was right." He then closed his eyes and Lucy slapped his face lightly ordering him to keep his eyes opened.
"There's still a chance she can be wrong." Lucy said as she continued to wrap the wound. "And I'm going to continue to hold out hope on that small chance that she is."
"And what if she isn't wrong?" Derek asked her with a whisper.
"I refuse to lose you." Lucy shook her head. "My father can't hate me that much to give you to me for only a short few months only to rip you away from me in the most brutal of ways when we just decided that we were going to be together. I don't want to let you go and I'm not going to, not now or ever."
"Maybe you'll need to." Derek suggested and Lucy gave him a look that told him to stop thinking that way. "Think about it; we spoke of being together but how were we going to go through with it? I've never done anything like this before and neither have you."
"That doesn't matter! You're not going to die tonight so stop speaking as if you are, end of discussion!" Lucy snapped, she was already stressed trying to make sure he didn't die, she didn't need him talking about him dying on top of it, it only made their situation worse. "Now, can you still pull a trigger?"
"Yeah." Derek answered and Lucy reached into his pockets and gave him the handgun explaining to him that if he saw anything to shoot it.
"Stay with me. You're gonna be okay."
"Lucy, it's a mortal wound, and right now I'm feeling pretty mortal." Derek reminded her.
"I understand that our timing sucks, but I'm not going to let you die." She said to him. She bit her lip, the thought of losing him making her heart ache and the tears swell.
Derek reached up and wiped them away. "It's okay, don't cry." He told her, seeing her made his heart break further, causing him more pain than the pain he was already in.
Lucy shook her head. "You shouldn't be consoling me, I need to be consoling you. You're the one who's hurt." She sniffled as she continued to try and heal him.
Their heads then snapped towards the direction of the church as they heard the sound of growling coming from the berserkers in the distance. "You might need to concentrate on saving the pack and yourself." Derek suggested to her as he recognised the growling sound as a berserker and only she was able to kill them as swiftly as possible compared to the rest of them.
"I'm gonna go ahead and veto that one. You're more important to me and you'll always will." She made a face and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Sorry, not sorry."
Derek groaned at her stubbornness but he noticed her head staring towards their left, assuming that she had heard someone coming. She looked at him and put a finger to her lips to tell him to stay quiet.
Lucy then stood up from her spot and quietly walked towards the corner of the building in front of them and peeked her head around the corner to see no one there, she then looked back at Derek who was positioning himself to face that same direction. When Lucy looked back once more, she saw the figure of a berserker and Kate walking towards them through the dusty air.
She rested her head against the building and growled to herself, "I hate this bitch." She grit her teeth before going around the corner and growling loudly at the two of them making them charge at her.
The berserker got to her first, swinging at her but Lucy ducked right in time before sending a powerful right hook to its midriff, making the berserker fly towards the side and into the wall of the building next to it, the concrete smash as it went flying into it.
Kate growled at the action and Lucy snapped her head towards the jaguar and cracked her neck. "And you're next." She spat, pointing at her. Kate went to dive at her, but the sounds of cars and yells distracted them, causing them to stop in their places as the bright lights caught them off guard.
Several vehicles came towards them and began to shoot at Kate and the berserker that stood in front of the jaguar to protect her until they ran away and hid in the other direction once again.
Lucy vanished and went back towards Derek. "Never thought you'd be happy to see hunters, huh?" She joked with a hopeful smile over the sounds of gunshots.
Derek turned his head and looked at it and he winced before looking back at her and smiled. "Go get her." He softly said.
Lucy's eyebrows furrowed at his words before she slowly watched the light drain from his eyes and her smile dropped. "Derek?" She whimpered, her words drenched with fear and pain.
He grabbed onto her hand and she gave it a squeeze as he saw the tears welling up into her eyes. "Go get her for me." He requested and she shook her head.
"No. I'm not leaving you." Lucy refused. She began to fret over him, trying everything she could to heal him like she had done for the others plenty of times before, her powers going towards him but it seemed to be doing nothing to heal him. Lucy worried further as she began to everything she could to remember basic human first aid.
Derek placed a ghostly smile on his face at her, drinking in every last bit of his soulmate to remember before he rested his head against the rocks before closing his eyes, his grip against her hand turning limp as he took his last breath. "No, Derek, please." She whimpered, her heart stopping and feeling what was left of her heart shatter into thousands of pieces.
Lucy grabbed his face in her hands; the tears streaming down her face like there was no tomorrow, ignoring how silent it was behind them because at that moment, nothing felt more silent than the void in her heart.
"No, no. This can't be happening." She cried as she put her head on his chest, her heart aching as she couldn't hear the sound of his heartbeat at all or feel the sensation of his chest rising and falling.
He was dead, and she couldn't do anything about it. She didn't stop it. She couldn't save him. He was dead and he had just taken the last piece of goodness within her, with him.
Lucy then heard the sounds of growls and gunshots start up again and something inside her had snapped once again. She knew she had to do what Derek asked of her and there was no way she was going to let that opportunity slip through her hands. Derek wanted her to kill Kate, and that was what she was going to do; it was what she had always wanted to do after all and she wasn't going to let Derek's dying wish go to waste.
And once Kate was done for, then she was going to storm her father's home and demand he bring Derek back — otherwise there would be literal Hell on Earth.
She got up from her spot and jumped over to rocks, dodging the bullets that were being fired towards Kate and the berserker and ran straight at her, tackling her to the ground.
Kate roared in her face but Lucifer didn't flinch at all from it, she felt the rage and the pain of Derek's death fuel her into killing her. It didn't matter that she was no longer as powerful as she once was, she was going to put whatever power she had left into fulfilling this last request from Derek. She wouldn't let him down; not again.
Meanwhile, Derek opened his eyes, covering his face from the bright light that seemed to be everywhere. "It's good to finally meet you, Derek Hale." He heard from behind him, causing him to turn and face him, seeing a broad and god-like man standing there and his mother next to him. "It's not everyday we meet someone who can tame my sister."
"Gabriel?" Derek asked in shock. "Mom?"
"Hi, Derek." Talia smiled at her son, the man didn't hesitate as he ran over to his mother, pulling her into a bone crushing hug. "As much as I'm happy to see you also, we don't have much time, there's someone back down there who needs you more than ever right now."
"Lucy." Derek agreed. He could only imagine the pain she was feeling at that moment from his passing and his heart wanted nothing more than to go back to her.
Gabriel nodded. "My sister has a habit of acting out when she's hurt, as you can probably tell by our history — but if you were to really die, there would be no coming back from the terror she would reign down on all worlds. I can't let that happen." He explained. "I'm here to offer you two options; you can choose to either stay here or you can go back to her side — where you belong — as her soulmate. Only this time you'll have a few other tricks up your sleeve than your average werewolf."
"Like the immortality of a demon?"
Gabriel nodded once again. "That will be one of the many perks. But you won't be a demon, Derek. All of us would rather you not be one of them — Lucifer included — instead you'll be an angel like Lucifer and I."
"Oh." Derek could only manage to say. He wasn't expecting that one. He and Lucy had spent so long trying to be okay with the fact that he might have to become a demon to be with Lucy, but now that wasn't the case, he felt a lot more relief with his decision.
He knew Gabriel probably assumed that he hadn't already made his mind up and that he had to decide quickly, but he already knew his answer — it was the answer that he had picked a long time ago. "I think you already know what I would choose." Derek responded.
Lucy's brother nodded and Talia smiled. "We're so proud of you, Derek." She said, regarding the other family members that were with her and had been watching him grow and flourish.
Talia saw her son confused when he first met the devil, and she knew she had to do something quickly otherwise they would never get the hint and the two would just be confused about each other constantly. She begged and begged until she finally received her yes from some of the angels to tell him about his destiny and ever since then, she watched happily as her son fell in love with the right person.
"And we have something else for you."
"What?"
"Lucy mentioned how much you loved being a werewolf and how hesitant she was about turning you because of that — and since we're trying to make it up to her for the pain we've caused her, we want to give that to you again, in hopes that maybe one day she will forgive us." Gabriel explained.
"Lucy's forgiven you a long time ago, you can tell every time she speaks about you." Derek shook his head. Lucy knows why her siblings did what they did, they didn't exactly have a choice when it came to their father.
Gabriel chuckled. "My sister may say that to your face because she doesn't want to frighten you with her stubbornness and her grudge-holding skills, but there's thousands of years worth of pain that our family has caused her for her to just forgive in a few months like she stated with you." He disagreed. "And after your death, we're going to have to apologise once more and a lot harder on our father's behalf as she made it clear that you were off limits and to not be harmed by anything."
"I'm guessing your father didn't listen..." Derek said obviously as he pointed to his surroundings and who he was speaking with.
Gabriel's eyes softened. "Just... tell her I'm sorry." He begged and Derek nodded, telling him that he would. Gabriel was constantly trying to make amends with his sister, but his loyalty to his father and his decisions made it hard for their relationship to ever go back to normal as their father's choices always ended up hurting Lucifer in some way.
Talia pulled him into a hug once again before taking a step back and smiling proudly at him. "I love you, son. But it's time to go back."
"I love you too, mom." Derek said and closed his eyes.
"I've been waiting for this day for a very, very long time, Kate." Lucifer snarled at the jaguar before clawing across Kate's face and grabbing her by the shirt and throwing her against one of the buildings.
Kate snarled at her and began to charge at her, smacking the hunters that tried to kill her on the way over, relinquishing in the feeling of it, making her feel more powerful than ever as she was about to take on the devil herself. "I just took down Derek, I'm taking you down next." Kate threatened.
At the mention of Derek's name, Lucy's lip curled — ignoring the feeling that swelled in her chest that she couldn't quite put her finger on. She didn't let that confusion show as she said, "Your berserker got the jump on Derek." She corrected her. "But go on then, let's see what you've got and I'll show you how I really play." She held her arms out waiting for Kate to attack her.
Kate took a step towards her but the two stopped when they heard the sound of a bowl in the distance, Lucy stiffening as she felt like her body recognised the sound — or more specifically, who the sound was coming from — their heads turning to try and find where and who it came from.
They turned their heads and saw a black wolf leaping over the rocks and running besides Lucy, brushing up against her leg causing the all too familiar warm feeling in her chest to return that only came from Derek.
The wolf looked up and it's eyes glowed blue, and both Kate and Lucy looked shocked knowing it was Derek. Kate growled at him and before she could react further, the wolf ran at her, causing her to put her hands in front of her to protect herself from its incoming attack.
The wolf took her to the ground and began to maul her as she tried to push him off. Eventually, the wolf backed off and Kate began to crawl away but not getting very far as she was weakened and only slowly healing. The wolf slowly turning and morphing itself into the man that was Derek Hale as she did so.
Kate turned back also as she looked at Derek in shock. "You were... you were dead." She gasped.
"No. I was evolving." Derek shook his head and smirked, "Something you'll never do. Everything you did to me, only made me stronger. As I may no longer be an alpha anymore, but that doesn't matter — because I'm a king now." He said proudly, his eyes glowing a bright blue.
The berserker snarled next to them and ran at Derek, swinging at him, but the werewolf ducked and grabbed it by the skull, pressing tightly until it crushed beneath its hands and turning into dust with ease.
"That's my baby." Lucy said proudly as she watched Derek be amazed by his own new gifted power.
Kate rushed away and tried to disappear around the corner, Chris loaded his gun and aimed it right at his sister, pressing the trigger, sending the bullet flying and hitting her straight to her back. Kate fell to the ground, and looked back, her face turning to one of betrayal. "Chris?" She gasped.
Kate then got up and ran into the shadows, with Chris running after her while everyone else began to gather their things, believing it was finally over.
Lucy and Derek looked at each other before the devil ran towards him, not wasting a single second as she launched herself into his embrace, sobbing lightly into his neck as he held onto her tightly, both feeling relief to be by each other's side once again.
"I thought I lost you for good." She whispered.
"I'm not going anywhere." Derek whispered back, kissing her hair. "Not for a long time."
The hunters checked on their own, seeing who was still alive and who was dead before they even looked at the pack to thank them for helping them as much as they could with Kate and the berserkers once they saw them drag Peter out of the church unconsciously.
The sun had risen by the time the pack and the hunters were finished packing their cars back up. Chris stood in front of Scott and Kira, "There's enough yellow wolfsbane to keep Peter out for the trip back." He told the alpha. "But be careful."
"You're really going with them?" Scott questioned the hunter, regarding the Calaveras who were still alive and standing behind him.
"I made a deal with the Calaveras weeks ago. They'll leave you alone. All of you." Chris promised him. "But only if I help them catch Kate."
"What if you can't?" Kira asked him.
"We'll find her." Lucy smiled at them all, Derek standing by her side. They had discussed it with the Calaveras that Lucy and Derek would help them find Kate and take her where she belonged for everything she had caused. "Someone has to pick up the slack around here." She winked at the pack.
Kira observed the soulmates and her eyes widened slightly as she realised the power the both of them held, Derek was now immortal and their bond had strengthened by a magnitude. She then looked at noticed how happy the girl looked; the both of them were going to be okay for a very long time.
Chris then gave Derek and Lucy a nod before walking towards his car, leaving the pack behind as they watched the hunters leave.
They said goodbye to Braeden who was also sending out her own search party for Kate, and Scott looked over at Derek who nodded at him before both him and Lucy disappeared into a heap of black smoke.
Stiles could only smile at the couple who had vanished knowing that everything would be okay for them.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
It had been a week since the pack had gotten back from Mexico and they hadn't heard anything from Lucy since which was strange since Lucy would of never left without having a major goodbye or leaving in style.
"I have no idea what they're doing or where they are." Stiles stressed to Scott as they walked through the halls of their high school. "I tried texting her and she hasn't responded. She always responds."
Stiles showed Scott their messages and Scott saw the thirty messages that Stiles had sent to Lucy and all of them had no response. "She's hunting down Kate, I wouldn't stress too hard."
The true alpha tried not to show Stiles his worry also as he felt like he would've liked an update as to what was happening with the Kate situation and if they would be in any danger. He also felt like Lucy's goodbye was very anticlimactic for her personality and it made it feel like her presence was all some sort of lucid dream.
"I'm not worried, I guess I'm just disappointed that she would leave without saying goodbye." Stiles frowned as they entered the locker room.
"Who left without saying goodbye?" Lucy questioned as she appeared behind them in the locker room, making both of the boys jump and yell out in fear at the smirking devil behind them.
Stiles' eyes widened. "Lucy, you're here— I thought you — I —"
"I couldn't leave without saying goodbye to my favourite boys." Lucy scolded. "I had to get a few things in order before I came back."
"Does that mean Kate is dead?" Scott questioned her, not really understanding what she meant by her words.
"Not yet, the slippery bitch is proving to be a little bit difficult to catch at the moment since the demons in Hell still need to be reigned back in and follow my orders. But that's another thing for another day." Lucifer explained with a scowl. She then grinned widely and held up two envelopes. "I come bearing gifts."
She handed both of the boys envelopes and the two opened them up, looking confused as they saw two black cards in them. They looked up at her as she said, "It'll be enough to keep your families comfortable for the next century or two. Stiles, you can go to your fancy FBI school that you're always raving about; and Scott, you can go to UCLA and study whatever the hell you want without worrying that your debt will send your mom into an early cardiac arrest."
"You're giving us money?" Stiles asked as he looked at the card, seeing his name printed on it and Scott's on his. "Why?"
"I've had the money be accumulated ever since money became a thing and I'll only continue to grow anyway; I've got nothing else to do with it other than give it to you two who need it more than I do. You or your next generations won't make me broke for as long as I live on." Lucy shrugged. "Can't have my boys in debt, and no you don't owe me anything for it. It's all yours."
She noticed since her time with them how their parents were struggling with money issues and this was the only way she knew how to help them. She had gotten Eichen House to forfeit their bills to the Stilinski's for when Brunski had tried to kill Stiles as well as helped chip in with the hospital bills for both Noah and Stiles. She had paid off the McCall's mortgage and the debt that had been built up from Melissa not being able to pay the bills.
So now, all they had to deal with is the living costs which still wouldn't make a dent into her bank account.
Lucy had called in that favour with a particular person and had them buy the Martin's lake house for well over market price and made sure they didn't settle for anything less to make the Martin's comfortable as well. Along with sorting out everyone else in the pack with their issues as her goodbye gift.
"Why us though?" Stiles asked again, still in shock for what he was looking at. "Not that I don't appreciate the gift — I'm very grateful, it's very nice but I still don't get why you're giving us money out of everyone on the planet."
Lucy chuckled at his stuttering. "You're my friends — and that is the highest form of friendly affection you can receive from me unless you're Derek." She simply answered. "You didn't try to use me for power or try to change me to be a better person. You put up with my tantrums and my mood swings and all the other bullshit I put you through. I wanted to change for you, you didn't make me do that and I wanted to thank you because all of this lead me to Derek."
The two teenage boys didn't say anything and the three of them were just standing there awkwardly. Lucy only rolled her eyes and held up her arms for a group hug. "Come on, I'll only allow this three times in your lifetimes. Bring it in."
The two boys ran to hug her and Lucy smiled into the hug. "Even though I might not be here with you physically, I'll always be here looking out for you. All you have to do is shout." She admitted.
Scott and Stiles pulled away from Lucy sadly; it was going to be weird without her around but they knew she needed to take care of Hell and the longer she was away, the worse it was going to be for everyone. She was never supposed to stay in Beacon Hills but she had stayed for them.
"No matter what people say, this proves that you're more human than most people we know." Scott told her. He know understood that not everything was what it seemed and that even the worst people in some people's eyes could actually turn out to be the best.
"Take that back." Lucy narrowed her eyes jokingly. "We don't say such things out loud." Scott could only chuckle and shake his head at her. She was only good for them, and no one else.
"I'm going to miss you." Stiles suddenly spoke and Lucy turned to look at the human boy who was fiddling with his shirt, not knowing how to process how to feel, seeing the look of sadness crush her internally that she would be away from her best friend and they wouldn't be able to get up to mischief for the rest of eternity like she had hoped.
Stiles then pointed at her to tell her to wait as he reached into his backpack before he forgot and pulled out a red can of Coca-Cola and handed it to her. "It's a much better present than that dead moth you gave me last year." Lucy shrugged as she accepted it.
"I never did apologise for stabbing you, and I didn't know how else to show you that I'm sorry." Stiles said nervously. They never really had the time to sit and talk about what had happened and Stiles was drowning with guilt because of it.
The girl shrugged. "I'm still alive and I've had worse happen. Don't worry about it. You weren't you and it was practically my fault as to why the nogitsune chose to possess you anyway." She brushed it off. She then sighed realising what life was going to be like once she left. "I'll miss you as well, Stiles, more than you know." Lucy admitted. "And my offer still stands. It'll always stand."
Stiles couldn't help himself but take long strides towards her again and pull her into another tight hug — he didn't care that he only had one apparent hug left remaining with her like she had said. He needed it. Lucy wrapped her arms around his torso and rubbed his back gently.
She was going to miss them.
Stiles took a step away from her when he felt he was finally ready, he was grateful that she didn't complain or make comments for how long he was taking but he needed to soak in the last memory of his best friend before she would go off and do her own thing while they stayed in Beacon Hills.
"Don't get up to too much mischief while I'm gone, and if you do — name it after me." She winked before finally disappearing and leaving the boys in the locker room by themselves once again.
Scott put his hand on his best friend's shoulder as the two of them stared at the spot that Lucy was just standing. "We're gonna be okay." He stated to his friend, feeling that everything would go back to normal and they would no longer have to worry anymore.
Stiles couldn't say anything as sobs began to rack his body, suddenly feeling overwhelmed of the absence of Lucy and how much he realised he depended on her. Scott pulled his friend to him and held him comfortingly, waiting until the sobs calmed themselves.
"We're gonna be okay." Scott repeated.
