"LUCY, I'M SORRY." Stiles said to her as they stood at the gates of Eichen House along with Noah Stilinski and Scott. "I just don't want to hurt you again, and I can't do that while I'm in here."
"I know." Lucy nodded. "It just sucks that you have to be in a place like this." She frowned looking at the place, having sensed everything that had happened in and around it.
"Just promise me something, yeah?" Stiles asked, looking at both of his friends.
"Anything." Lucy and Scott said.
"Just promise me that if you can't find a way to fix me, make sure that I never get out." Stiles said before the gates then opened and both the Stilinski's walked through.
Lucifer jolted awake, she sighed thinking about the memory and moved to hug her legs. She wasn't sure about what to do anymore or how to save Stiles from her past. She was almost terrified of him and she hated that there was a part of her that was glad that he was in Eichen House so they could have some distance and he couldn't try to hurt her.
She couldn't ever be sure if he was the real Stiles or the nogitsune anymore.
"You okay?" A voice called out, she looked up seeing Derek looking slightly worried about her from across the cell. "Bad dream?"
She had almost forgotten that she had even returned to the cell the previous night after she said goodbye to Stiles. But after what had happened with the explosion at the station, there was a part of her that didn't want to be away from Derek, she wanted to look out for him since Sawyer didn't.
She was furious with him when she found out that he didn't protect Derek like she had asked, but she was beginning to sense that there was a revolution against her starting down in the pits of Hell. Sawyer persisted that he wasn't apart of it, but he left Derek to go and control it. Lucy believed it โ for now.
She had to manipulate some of the deputies to let her stay and she laughed at herself since she was usually manipulating them to let her out of a cell, not in one. Derek was changing her and she wasn't sure how she felt about that.
Lucy could only nod tiredly, too exhausted from that night to give a snarky response. Derek held out his arms, inviting her to snuggle up to him so she could rest.
Lucy couldn't pass up an opportunity like that as she crawled over to his side and soon snuggled into his chest. "When can we break out of this place?" She asked both Chris Argent โ who was in the cell next door โ and Derek.
"When you regain your strength and when we get all the information we need." Chris answered and Lucy sighed thinking further back to what he was referring to.
Lucy felt it as soon as it happened, it felt like millions of sharp pains stabbing her in the back. She wasn't sure how she knew it, but she knew it was Derek that she was feeling it from.
She had heard that he had gotten arrested earlier that day โ along with Chris Argent โ and were waiting at the station for questioning. She immediately went there with Stiles and Scott following shortly behind her, and their eyes widened as she witnessed the commotion happening in front of her.
"Get me an an ambulance here, at the sheriff's station." An officer yelled out. "We've got an explosion. We got multiple officers down. Multiple officers down. We need an ambulance ASAP. On the double."
Lucy ran straight passed him calling out for Derek, she looked up a bit further seeing him standing, but struggling a lot, her eyes focused on the hundreds of shards of glass that were wedged into his back. She ran to him, almost shaking him awake. "Derek?" She asked, trying to get a response out of him. "Derek?" She tried again, shaking him a little.
"He saved my life." Chris said to her in shock.
"I'm okay." He said in response to her, breathing very heavily in pain. "I'm okay." He repeated, having seen the look of worry on her face at his expense through heavy eyelids.
"You're a horrible liar." Lucy noted and pulled Derek away and around the corner so they were out of sight.
"What are you doing?" He panted as she sat him down and began to yank out the glass from his back.
"Your body is going to start to heal with or without the pieces of glass in you, and obviously, unless you want to live the rest of your life constantly in pain because you have glass in your body, I'm going to pull it out." Lucy explained. "Can't have a hunk like you in pain, it hurts me also."
Derek made a face at her words he was sure there was a double meaning behind them, but quickly hissed as she pulled out more glass โ forgetting any previous thought, hearing her grumble a 'sorry' every time he did hiss from pain. At least he was getting one, he thought.
It went on until all the glass was out, she smiled a little as she watched it all heal and gave him a small pat on the back. "All done." She said to him and helped him up off of the ground as they walked back to the chaos that the station was in.
She snuggled more into Derek's chest and he wrapped his arms around her to keep her securely in place, wincing slightly as she moved too much, causing the pain to show itself.
"I don't get how it still hurts." Derek said to her, confused, and equally as worried as he didn't think she could get that hurt with how strong and old she was.
"It hurts because he was created to be almost my equal." Lucy stated. "It's not just any fox we're dealing with."
Lucy pushed Stiles inside the animal clinic as Scott and Kira fought the oni outside the animal clinic. Lucy shoved him as far away from the door to keep him safe, so it would buy them time if the oni got inside with them.
Lucy looked at all the doors and the rest of the surroundings before speaking. "Look, I'd say with those two, we have about five minutes before either the oni come in or we're good for another night. But until then, I'm not taking any chances." She says and turns around to face Stiles, only for him to shove a sword that he had stolen from outside into her chest and pin her against the wall behind her by the sword.
"Asshole." She groaned, coughing up a bit of blood from the action. "I guess I should say welcome back, long time no see."
"Does it hurt yet?" The nogitsune asked her, Lucy only flashing her black eyes at him and trying to swipe at him, but missing as he stepped back. He smirked at her before re-grabbing the sword and beginning to twist it, hearing her hiss. "How about now?"
"Go back to Hell." She growled at him.
The nogitsune then kissed his cheek and shook his head. "All of that attitude and all of that pain built up is going to get you in trouble one day." He told her. "You've been holding on to it for all these years and not once have you ever shared it." He said grabbing onto her face. "But now, it's time for you to give it to me." He growled.
Lucy's eyes began to roll back into her head as she felt him beginning to suck all of her energy into him, while it felt good for all of it to be let off of her shoulders, she knew it was feeding him and making him stronger, which wouldn't be good for anybody.
The nogitsune began to pant as he was getting full and moved his hand away from her, Lucy beginning to cough as she felt she was significantly weaker by what he had just done. "You're a prick and I can't wait to send you back to where you came from." She snapped.
The nogitsune smiled and laughed. "Oh, you never learn, do you?" He asked, his eyes then hardening. "You've failed to get rid of me every time. This time won't be any different, you know why? Because I'm better than you, and you made me that way."
"I didn't realise that I made you into a greedy little shit." She snapped at him, trying to move and pull herself off of the wall, but couldn't because of how weak she was. "Can't be better than me with that one hanging over your head."
"I may be greedy, but you made me this way, and I'm going to take everything and feed off of everyone and you won't be able to do anything about it, just like last time." He said to her.
"I don't think so." Deaton said, appearing next to the nogitsune and injecting his neck with an unknown serum to her, knocking him out just as Kira and Scott run through the doors.
"Anything?" Chris asked Derek, wanting him to listen in for information.
"The Katashi murder is now a federal investigation and all the evidence that is still in one piece is going into lock up." Lucy answered for Derek as she listened in to the conversation.
"You were right." Derek said to the hunter.
"Was there anything about the murder itself?" Chris asked them.
"Nope, just that." Lucy answered.
"You should get some rest so you can heal." Derek said pointedly at her.
"Okay, dad." She retorted sarcastically.
"I mean it." He persisted and she scoffed and rolled her eyes but obliged, closing her eyes listening to the sound of his heartbeat, realising how tired she really was when she began to doze off.
Derek waited a few moments until she believed that she was truly asleep before turning his head towards Chris' cell. "If it's true about Stiles and that he killed all of those people..."
"But is it really Stiles?" Chris interrupted. "Remember, we've had this problem before." He said referring to the kanima situation they dealt with two years prior.
"She seems to think it isn't." Derek says nodding his head at Lucy. "She says he has no idea what's happening to him because he's possessed and doesn't have any control over what does happen. It may be his body, but apparently his mind isn't his own." He explains her words that he learnt through Sawyer. "And need I remind you, we got lucky with Jackson."
A deputy walked passed them and the two stopped talking before continuing the conversation when they were gone.
"So the question is, what happens when we don't get lucky?" Derek asked the hunter.
"I guess it depends on how much or how little of Stiles is left." Chris answered him, his sentence then reminded him of something else. "Have you ever heard of the beserkers?"
"Germanic warriors. They wore the skins of bears to channel their ferocity." Derek answered, he began to stroke Lucy's hair to soothe her in her sleep and smiled when he noticed her stir a little from the action but remained asleep.
"They didn't just wear them. They became them." Chris pointed out. "You know, a couple of years ago, a family came to us for help with their son. This group of teenagers, they were doing all sorts of rituals with animal skins. Somehow they tapped into it. But with beserkers, the human side doesn't last long. They're not tempered by the moon."
"He killed people?" Derek asked.
"He tore them apart." Chris answered. "Eventually, I had to tell the family their son was gone. It took three of us to take him down. Almost every bullet we had. And when it was over, I felt no remorse. None. I knew that kid was long gone."
"Would you feel any remorse putting Stiles down?" Derek asked again.
"Stiles? Yes. But not a nogitsune." Chris answered.
Derek then had a thought as he looked down at the devil cuddled into him. "Do you think that she's behind all of this? The nogitsune coming to Beacon Hills, the beserkers, the kanima?" He asked.
"I don't think that she exactly had this all planned to happen." Chris said. "She said she created the nogitsune a thousand years ago out of spite, I don't think she particularly created every single little bad thing the world has. People get vengeful and creative on their own and make these creatures, but she takes the blame." He voiced. "Everyone likes to do bad things and then say that the devil made them do it because it's easier to pass the blame on to someone else than face the consequences of their actions. And besides, if she had sent the nogitsune to Beacon Hills to cause chaos, I don't think she would be working this hard to get rid of him."
Derek huffed with a smile. "Is this your way of saying 'don't judge a book by its cover'?"
"I'm saying don't judge Lucy by her past or by the book. A lot of it is misconstrued and has been adapted and changed a thousand times over by people and religions." Chris told him. "And I don't think trying to pin her as a bad guy is going to help change the fact that you have feelings for her."
Derek's eyebrows rose. "You know?"
"It's obvious." Chris smirked. "You two pull towards each other like magnets. You can't keep your eyes off of each other when you're in the same room, and when you're apart, it's like you're missing something."
"I guess it's a soulmate thing." Derek sighed and continued to pet her hair.
"Does she know that though?" He asked the werewolf.
"I have no idea." Derek answered truthfully. "I'm still trying to figure that out though."
