ย ย ย THERE WERE TWO POSSIBLE SCENARIOS FOR TONIGHT: one, he wouldn't show and she'd say she saw it coming, but in reality Michelle knew it'd be quite a surprise and even someone like herself who had less self esteem had a little hope for this one. And two would be that he would actually show up and that she's be worried for nothing.
On the other hand, Diego had similar concerns, but in different circumstances. Like Michelle, he was worried she wouldn't
even show up, but on the other he was worried his dad would find him up there and it'd be for nothing.
Well, contrary to his belief Michelle was there. In fact, she had been there for four hours, sitting on the roof with her legs dangling, watching the sunset and listening to music on her Walkman. Anything was better than being at home longer than she had to.
After four hours of, her shoulder slumped from the boredom. She was starting to think she'd rather be back home with her mom. Then, she felt something tug on her headphones and then the music wasn't as loud, being blocked out by the noise of New York City. Her headphones were now around her neck and she turned to see it was Diego with his mask off this time and she wasn't gonna lie.
He looked good.
"Look who finally showed up," Michelle said in a sarcastic tone, crossing her arms against her chest and looking at him with a light smile. "I thought you'd never come."
Diego chuckled, putting his hands up, "I know, I know," Diego sighed. "But if you met my 'dad' you'd know how hard it is to get away from him โ I was lucky Luther even agreed to cover for me."
"Fair enough."
"This seat taken?" Diego asked with a smile, pointing to the empty spot next to her.
Michelle raised her eyebrows with a smile, chuckling, "Nah, you're good."
Diego sat down beside her, then drifting his gaze up to the city in front of them. Car horns echoed through the streets and lights from the window shimmered into the night followed by a light gust of wind from the warm night. Their legs were dangling from the rooftop and the air between them was quiet, so much that Michelle had to get out her Walkman again and started blasting something to make some noise.
She glanced down at her headphones then her gaze drifted to Diego, "You wanna listen together?"
Diego shrugged, "Depends, what's your music taste," he crossed his arms, "'Cause if I have to listen to dad's classical stuff or a violin one more time, I think I might loose it."
"Jeez, have some faith in me," Michelle placed the headphones down in the middle of them; she turned the volume up as loud as she could and it began playing Take My Breath Away by Berlin. "It's from that old Air Force movie Top Gun โ hey! Whenever you get the chance, I'll show you the Danger Zone."
Diego raised his eyebrows, "huh?"
Michelle rolled her eyes, "It's another song from the movie," she sighed, "probably should've told you that before trying to make a reference..."
"Well, now I know," Diego said. "Hey, come by my place and to the back of the house."
"Huh?"
"Trust me," he added. "I met you here now you meet there."
"Alright."
Little did they know that's one of the last times they'd meet.
