Soda walks in the house from work, slipping his shoes off before sitting on the couch. Ponyboy was sitting next to him and Johnny was in the other room folding laundry.
"Hey Soda," Ponyboy asks slowly, turning his head to look at him.
"Yeah little buddy," Soda asks back, looking at his little brother.
"I have a serious question to ask you," Ponyboy says. "Don't make fun of me."
"Of course not, what's the question," Soda asks.
"Well... For a bit, I've been feeling a certain way towards a person," Ponyboy says slowly.
"Can you describe those feelings for me," Soda asks with a smile.
"I can try," Ponyboy says. "This person makes me feel very happy and I just wanna be close with them. In the words they said: 'You make my mood go from sad to all smiles, just by walking into the room.' I would do just about anything to make them smile Soda, anything..."
"Sounds like my little brother is fancying a little lady," Soda says happily. "What's she look like?"
"U-uhm...," Ponyboy says slowly. "B-bout that..."
"Huh," Soda asks.
"It's not a little lady... I-it's a little man," Ponyboy says nervously.
"Oh well that's just fine Ponyboy," Soda says. "What's this little man's name?"
"I-i don't wanna say Soda," Ponyboy says. "I-if you don't mind."
"That's perfectly fine with me," Soda says. "But you do sound love struck... Why don't you make a move on them?"
"Make a move," Ponyboy asks. "What's that?"
"Y'know, show them you like them,"the older boy says. "Hug them a bit, but not too much, smile at them, and if you really like them, give them a kiss on the cheek. Their face will get redder than a cherry."
"A-are you sure about that," Ponyboy asks carefully.
"Of course. That's usually what I do," Soda says.
"Thanks Soda but I'm not you," Ponyboy says. "I'm not good-looking like you or good with cars like you. I'm not a chick magnet, I can't make friends easily."
"And that's okay to not be like me," Soda says. "Just stay you and you'll find someone for you... I know it. Some boy is going to make you happy one day, or a girl, I don't care... But they will make you so happy and I'll be there for you..."
"Thank you Soda," Ponyboy says hugging his older brother.
Soda hugs back and smiles softly. The younger boy pulls away after a minute.
"I think I'm gonna make my move tomorrow Soda," Ponyboy says shyly.
"Good luck."
