kingslanding , dragon pits

TO THE SURPRISE OF NO ONE, princess aemma velaryon was the apple of the realm's eye. not many were immune to, what laenor will call, her charm-speak. not laenor, not king viserys and especially not rhaenyra. the phrase 'you will never love anyone like you love your first born' had her in mind. and it wasn't liked rhaenyra didn't love her boys. she did fiercely. they were her blood. but it was something about her only daughter that really made her fiercely loving and protective. which rolled over to when jacaerys velaryon was born just a year after. being blessed to be a mother again made her appreciate the love she has with motherhood. something she used to be against.

aemma was a reflection of herself and the late aemma arryn, her mother. her gentle nature shined within their daughter. oftentimes, viserys found himself remembering his beloved first wife through his granddaughter as the little girl with golden skin grew up. from her smile, to her soft laugh. it was like the gods allowed him to see his aemma again and for rhaenyra to be able to see her mother in her little girl. and that was a love that could never be broken.

jacaerys and aemma grew up to be very close to one another. many would often call him a 'sister's boy' with how he always followed her around. and aemma took her duties as an older sister very seriously. in many ways, jacaerys saw aemma as a second rhaenyra. everything she did and said reminded him of their beloved mother and aemma took care of him as such when their mother was away.

laenor, her father, just adored his little sea star. he feared that because of his preference, he would never experience what his twin sister, laena, was blessed to have. he often thanked the gods for allowing him this one chance of being a father. a child of his own. and aemma was perfect in every way he wasn't. and it didn't matter that jacaerys wasn't his blood, his love for aemma also made him appreciate him in more ways than one. the gods may have only allowed him one child but he now knew what it means to be a father regardless. and that love will always extend to any child rhaenyra has.

little aemma velaryon was only one and ten when she claimed her first dragon. and it was purely by accident. when granted permission to sail to dragonstone to visit her aunt laena and uncle daemon with laenor, she decided to play in the forest outside of the castle during the day. rhaenyra was pregnant at the time and had decided to stay behind in kingslanding with jacaerys due to her not wanting to get sick while carrying.

by then, her own dragon egg had already hatched and was rapidly growing as time passed by. to which she named her dragon meraxes ii. after hearing stories of queen rhaenys targaryen and her dragon, she loved the name and so she called her first dragon the same.

during a curious stroll in the forest that was near a cliff on the edge of dragonstone, aemma came across a trail of broken dragon eggs, bones and red markings. as scared as she was of the sight, her curiosity was greater. foolish decision, yes. but one she will always say she does not regret making.

aemma soon found herself at an opening of a massive cave. the sun seemed blinding in the partially barren area and the dust on the ground seemed more scorching. what alarmed aemma was the amount of burned weapons and human remains surrounding the area. just as she was about to turn around and run away, a low and demonic growl echoed through the blackened cave. causing the young princess to freeze in her steps.

aemma's eyes widened and her breath hitched in her throat. she slowly turned around to see the face of a massive dragon with teeth sharper than valyrian steel swords and eyes as red as blood rubies. he bared his monstrous teeth at the little girl in a menacing growl as his head lowered closer to her entire body. his snout, alone, was bigger than all of her.

aemma started shaking as she looked at the demonic dragon with dried blood coating its teeth. if it were possible, she would be as white as a ghost right now.

as a comfort mechanism, she started to sing slowly in valyrian. a song her mother taught her a while ago. it always brought her comfort when she was scared and nervous. her voice trembled as she closed her eyes shut. waiting for the inevitable.

but the longer she sang, she realized nothing happened. she paused her singing and slowly opened her eyes to see the dragon had stopped bearing its teeth. but instead, it curiously started sniffing her. his snout almost on her body as it sniffed the air around her.

aemma let out a breath she was holding as she began singing again. noticing how the dragon was now acting curious instead of feral. in pure intrigue, aemma slowly raised her little hand while taking a step towards the dragon.

the dragon looked at her hand as it was a few inches near its snout. as if sensing her hesitation, the dragon moved its head towards her little hand, pressing its snout on her palm. to which aemma let out a soft but slightly nervous chuckle as she felt the scales on her hand. unknowingly bonding with the ginormous feral dragon. yet, she had no idea she had just bonded with the most feared and feral dragon in all of the seven kingdoms. childish innocence led her to believe she made a friend.

so aemma stayed with the dragon, playing with it as it followed her around. she spoke to it, sat on its scaly back and made flower crowns while it surrounded her around with its body.

meanwhile, back in the castle, laenor was on the brink of having a heart attack. he went outside to gather his sweet little girl for supper when he realized she was nowhere to be found. she usually played in the backfield. making flower crowns for him and for her aunt and uncle, whom she has managed to charm immediately.

when noticing that she was nowhere to be found, the color in his face drained as he alerted laena and daemon. who has made everyone in the castle search for the lost princess.

quickly thinking that she must have wondered off into the small forest on the edge of the field, laenor nearly bolted into it blindly before laena quickly ran after him to stop him from doing anything drastic. daemon, just as worried as laenor, also ran into the forest.

after what seemed like hours of searching, one of the guards alerted them of aemma's presence. wasting no time, laenor ran to where she was found only to abruptly stop in his tracks.

the only thing he could think about was 'rhaenyra is going to have my head on a spike for this.' how was he ever going to gently explain to the mother of their child that aemma is playing with the cannibal? how? there was no scenario where he came out alive at the end.

as soon as the rest arrived to the site, all of their eyes widened in pure shock. laena couldn't help but to have a small laughing fit as she watched her sweet niece sitting on the tail of the cannibal while she rambled on in valyrian to it. and the cannibal not at all minding. all things considered, it was a rather awesome and comical sight.

daemon felt a strange wave of pride. no one was ever able to claim the cannibalistic dragon and all who did, met their end. yet, a tiny baby girl was able to do just that. it was both astonishing and a proud moment of his.

as soon as aemma noticed them there, she smiled and waved at them. "papa!" she cheered, showing her flower crown. "this is my friend! i call him blackfyre!"

"blackfyre." daemon repeated, trying not to laugh. "the cannibal is now named blackfyre." that sent laena into another fit of laughter. earning the both of them a glare from laenor. who didn't find this moment at all entertaining.

"sea star," laenor called for her, eyeing the feral dragon cautiously. "come on! come here, sweet girl!"

aemma obliged, hopping off the massive tail, fixing her dress a bit and began walking towards her father. but in doing so, the cannibal lifted its head up and began following her. its giant steps shook the ground around them. causing them to nearly fall.

"seems as though the cannibal has bonded with our little sea star, brother." laena mumbled to him, noticing how attached the dragon seemed to aemma.

laenor knew he was in even deeper trouble now. rhaenyra was going to feed him to syrax, for sure. he let out a deep sigh, wanting to die right then and there. "i see." he muttered in defeat.

"can we take him back home with us, papa?" aemma asked, looking up at him. giving him pleading eyes as she held his hand. "please? meraxes will have a friend now."

"not like he has a choice, my little flame." daemon joked under his breath. laena smacked his arm all while chuckling with him.

if laenor didn't already have white hair, he would have now.

after the visit, aemma was excited to show her mother and brother her new friend. while laenor tried to be happy for her. but all he could think was how her mother will never trust him around their daughter again. and it wasn't like he could leave the dragon on dragonstone. it wouldn't listen to anyone else but aemma. it was like it wanted to be only around aemma, so as they sailed back to kingslanding, the cannibal flew above their ship. laenor was only thinking what was waiting for them.

"mama!" aemma cheered with a big smile as she ran to her mother's arms as soon as they made it back to the red keep. rhaenyra and jacaerys waited for their arrival right outside the castle with many guards.

rhaenyra smiled brightly seeing her little girl running towards her. she carefully lowered herself, minding her pregnant stomach as she hugged her. "my sweet girl." she cooed, caressing her long white hair and face.

aemma beamed up at her before turning to jacaerys. "jace!" she cheered, breaking away from their mother to hug her brother.

jacaerys happily smiled, embracing his older sister tightly. "how was dragonstone, sweet sister?" he asked after they pulled apart.

"i made a new friend." she announced with much excitement.

rhaenyra looked confused but happy for her. she looked at laenor, who approached them with a look that immediately worried her. "new friend?" she questioned, looking between him and aemma.

laenor sighed, prepared for the worse. "that is a...." he trailed off, suddenly growing nervous. "that is something me and you need to discuss privately."

just before she could ask more on the topic, suddenly a massive shadow covered the setting sun above them. alarmed, everyone looked up at the sky to see the pitch black body of a dragon flying above them.

rhaenyra quickly shielded her children behind her while the guards took cover. "laenor." she said with much urgency in her voice.

"mama, that's my friend." aemma said, grinning up at the sky as the dragon landed in front of them. "his name is blackfyre."

the guards immediately pulled out their weapons at the sight of the cannibal. rhaenyra almost felt her heart fall right out of her rib cage at the sight. jacaerys looked at the dragon with widened eyes as he hid behind rhaenyra.

"that's what i needed to talk to you about." laenor mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck.

rhaenyra's eyes snapped right at him with bewilderment coating her face. "what are you talking about, laenor?" she asked through her gritted teeth. "why is our daughter calling that blackfyre?"

"she bonded with the cannibal?!"

as soon as the situation was controlled, with the guards able to get the cannibal into the dragon pit ( with aemma convincing it to go into the furthest area of the pits. just to be safe. ), rhaenyra and laenor began talking about what happened during the visit. due to the commotion, king viserys quickly found out what happened so he found laenor and his daughter in their chambers discussing. wanting to know why exactly he was told that the cannibal was in his dragon pits.

aemma was sent with the septa to practice her embroidery while jacaerys left with ser harwin for training. leaving them to discuss among themselves.

and just as laenor predicted, rhaenyra was not at all happy.

"how did she even get close to it?!" she nearly exclaimed, pacing back and forth with her hand on her pregnant belly. "by the gods, I avert my eyes away from my daughter for a mere few moons and i am told she is found playing with the cannibal."

"it was not like i could tell her she couldn't keep the dragon." laenor defended himself, still shocked by everything. "it wouldn't leave her alone.....i'm actually quite proud."

rhaenyra shot him a glare, causing him to jump a little. "you should not be proud of this, laenor. she could have gotten hurt! she could have died!"

"but she didn't, sweet girl." viserys spoke up after observing the two with amusement. like daemon and laena, viserys was proud but also thought it was a funny situation. "this strangely reminds me a lot of you."

"do not start, father." she sighed, stressed out. she sat down on the bed, trying to regulate her breathing.

"i knew my granddaughter was a true dragon." viserys stated proudly. "my father once called it 'dragon speak' the ability to tame dragons. essentially being able to speak their language or understand them. i believe that is what sweet aemma has."

"it would explain a lot." laenor mumbled, thinking about it for a moment. "when meraxes hatched, she was able to tame it very quickly."

rhaenyra rubbed the space between her eyes. in a way, she should have seen this coming. she has witness aemma's dragon training herself and was incredibly proud with how fast her dragon submitted to her. but she never anticipated her daughter going off to dragonstone and coming back with an infamously dangerous dragon as her new 'friend'.

"this still does not soothe me so." she mumbled tiredly. she was entirely too pregnant for this.

"this is a gift, rhaenyra." viserys added to his point. "think of this as an advantage. you have a special child. and i'm sure when jacaerys' dragon hatches, she would be of great help when he learns how to tame his."

she pursed her lips, trying to see the bright side in this. she looked at both her husband and her father before deciding to try and not be so worried for her daughter. "i hope both of you are right."

so I did change some things in this
story. aemma is going to have four
dragons. I was inspired by another
story. the oc had multiple dragons
because she was good at taming them.
so I thought, why not?

anyways, hope you all enjoyed this
chapter. I will see you all again very
soon!
