THE WALKING DEAD
( season one episode three )
CAMP WAS THE SAME as it always was. some people were cooking food meanwhile others were washing clothes by the quarry. It was a pretty peaceful place. Carl grimes was getting his monthly haircut — Alana had gotten out of hers by telling Lori that she wanted to 'grow her hair out' but despite the amount of excuses Carl made, he still had to get it done.
He was sat across from Alana and Shane, fidgeting on the log. Alana was picking the old nail polish off her nails as her eyes glimpsed to Carl "can you ever sit still?"
"I'm trying" the boy told her with a frown on his face. He leaned forward but Lori pulled him back and lifted his head up.
Lori grimes was focusing the best she could but it looked like a struggle especially because Carl wouldn't stop moving. "well, try harder"
Shane lifted his head up and turned to Carl, forming a grin on his face "if you think this is bad, buddy. Just wait till you have to start shaving"
"Shaving?" Alana questioned, tilting her head slightly and crossing her eyebrows "he can't even tie his shoelaces"
"Yes I can!" Carl argued, an annoyed expression plastered across his face.
Alana nodded, rolling her eyes "yeah okay" she replied, sounding more sarcastic than ever.
"you just get through this with some manly dignity and tomorrow I'll teach you something special" Shane told him, placing his gun down and trying to distract Carl so Lori could continue. "I'll teach you how to catch frogs"
"ew" Alana scrunched her nose, sounding disgusted "I'm not eating a frog"
"Why not?" Shane asked, nudging the girl in her camp chair "frogs are full of nutrition and flavour — much better than your moms cooking"
Lori scoffed, her mouth dropping and her eyebrows raising. "Excuse me? When have you ever had my cooking?"
"let me think" he replied, glancing away then back to Lori "carls tenth birthday"
Lori shook her head before softly chuckling at the man "you try baking a cake at four am — and i couldn't turn the lights on because someone" her eyes flickered to Alana "convinced Carl to have a sleepover in the living room"
A laughed escaped Alana's mouth as Shane lifted his hands up in a mocking surrender "no — no it was good" his eyes darted to Carl "right buddy?"
Carl shrugged, his face covered with pure disappointment "an ice cream cake would've been better"
Lori jokingly shoved the boy, her cheeks turning a bright red "yeah, punk?"
All of a sudden, a blaring car alarm caught their attention. Alana looked back and forth as the four of them stood up.
Shane instantly approached Dale — the man stood on the roof of his RV, peering around through his binoculars. "Talk to me, Dale!"
"I can't really yet." Dale responded, his eyes glued to his binoculars as he turned left and right.
Lori hand one hand placed around Carl just a few steps away from her daughter. Alana held her hand to her face, squinting her eyes from the sun. "isn't it gonna draw more walkers?"
She looked back to Lori who shrugged at her as she approached the girl "I don't know honey"
Amy Harrison, the younger sister of Andrea who had went on the run — jumped up and frantically made her way toward them "is it them? Are they back?"
Dale froze just as he lowered his binoculars and gazed into long road ahead of them "I'll be damned"
"What is it?" Amy asked, looking up to the old man.
"A stolen car is my guess"
Both mother and daughter were confused as they turned to each-other, making eye contact. Eager to see the 'stolen car', the three of them followed the rest of the group into the clearance.
The alarm was soon ringing in everyone's ears as a red sports car slowly pulled up to where everyone stood waiting. Everyone approached it with curiosity, only for Glenn to get out.
A giant grin was on his face before Dale shouted down to him "turn that damn thing off!"
"I don't know how" he yelled, throwing his arms up as he slammed the door shut.
Alana stepped toward the boy, forming a wide smile on her face "I can't believe you made it"
"What?" He screamed in her face, not realising how loud he was speaking.
"I said I can't —" she began before Shane cut her off.
"Pop the hood!" Shane instructed, stood with his arms crossed and a frown on his face.
Amy ran toward Glenn, her face completely pale and covered in worry "is Andrea okay?"
The two of them kept screaming at the boy until he eventually climbed back into the car and opened the hood for Shane.
Amy continued shouting at the boy, she was desperate to know what happened to Andrea "why isn't she with you?"
"She's fine!" Glenn responded for the fifth time, sighing at Amy "everybody is — Merle not so much"
Everyone in camp was silent, they patiently waiting for Glenn to explain what had happened.
Shane was leaning against the car hood, he clenched his jaw before looking up at Glenn "you crazy driving this wailing bastard up here? Are you trying to draw every walker from miles?"
"I think we're okay" Dale assured him, gazing around . He had climbed down from the RV and was now stood with everyone "that alarm was echoing all over these hills, it's hard to pinpoint the source"
"You call being stupid okay?" Shane heavily sighed, standing with his hands on his hips and glaring at the old man.
"I'm not arguing, I'm just saying" Dale stated, shaking his head at Shane just as he turned back to Glenn "but it wouldn't hurt for you to think things through more carefully next time, would it?"
Glenn seemed disappointed and less excited about his new car "sorry" the boy turned and gestured at the sports car beside him "got a cool car"
The group began to leave Glenn alone and focus more on the car as Alana grimes made her way back toward him.
"you think I can drive it?" The girl asked, her eyes focused on the red convertible.
Glenn smirked at her, standing beside the brunette "aren't you like fourteen?"
Alana rolled her eyes as he snickered at her. One thing about Glenn and Alana was that they loved irritating each-other. They were basically like siblings. "I'm sixteen!"
Again, Amy Harrison came at Glenn with more questions. The blonde wasn't patient. "Glenn, where's my sister?"
Before he could answer, everyone's attention was drawn to a clearance van. Glenn turned and smiled at the group. It was the others or that was what Alana guessed.
The van stopped and immediately Andrea ran out and embraced her younger sister. They called each others names, both purely happy to see one and another.
Morales came out behind the blonde, whose children and wife instantly ran toward him. He was followed by Jacqui and t-dog who both looked exhausted.
After seeing this, Lori pulled both Carl and Alana away. The reunions of the families always got to Carl. Neither of them had completely gotten over their fathers death.
Lori crouched down to Carl, holding both his hands as he had tears streaming down his cheeks. Alana was stood behind him with her arm wrapped around his shoulder.
Alana's eyes flickered to the van where she hoped and prayed that through some sort of miracle — rick grimes would walk out and embrace the two but it was impossible even Alana knew that.
Shane glimpsed the three of them and slightly smiled with sympathy. He turned to morales, placing his hands back on his hips. "How'd y'all get out of there anyway?"
"new guy" Glenn stated, spinning his around to Shane "he got us out"
"New guy?"
"Yeah, he just got into town" morales responded, carrying both of his children in his arms. He looked back to the van. "Hey, helicopter boy, come say hello"
The young girl peered at the van, patiently waiting for the so called 'hero' to introduce himself. She could hear morales telling Shane that he was a cop —
and that's when her eyes met his.
not Carl. not Lori. Alana was first to see him. She removed her hand from carls shoulder, bringing it up to her face and covering her mouth in awe. It couldn't be — he was meant to be dead.
"oh - oh my god" he stumbled on his words, holding eye contact with Alana. It really was him. Their father.
Carl and Lori turned his head to see what Alana was staring at — his mouth hung loosely open before he let go of Lori and ran straight toward rick "dad! dad!"
Alana quickly ran after her younger brother who was already in ricks arms. He pulled his daughter in tightly before dropping to his knees and sighing with relief.
Only a few yards away was Lori grimes, froze on the spot. Her eyes were bulged and her face had completely dropped as she wrapped her arms around the man.
Alana's buried her head into her fathers shoulder, silent tears fell down her cheeks. They were finally a family again.
The girl felt overwhelmed. She couldn't believe it. She couldn't wrap her head around the fact she was in the arms of Rick grimes, Her dead father.
