xiv. wedding day

IT WAS FINALLY HERE. Louise and Jack were finally getting married. After 7 years of being apart and 1 happy year of making up for the lost time, they were finally tying the knot.

Although the Davies family wanted a traditional British wedding, the Collins wanted a traditional Scottish wedding. Neither Jack nor Louise cared so they made a compromise. they would get married in a Newcastle church but Jack, his groom party and the men in one his side of the family would wear kilts. Louise thought it was a pleasant compromise, especially the thought of Jack in a kilt was a funny one to her but wouldn't tell him that.

Louise was sat in a room in the back of the church, sat in her elegant white and cream long-sleeved wedding gown which was perfectly decorated with lace and embroidered flowers. Currently, Carey and Viola were fussing over their sister's hairdo. Louise liked her long hair even though her family insisted she gets it cut for the wedding, both she and Jack refused. Jack thought she would look beautiful with any hairstyle but something about her long flowing brown locks did something to him that no one could.

But the looks on both Carey and Viola's faces made Louise give in so they could tie her hair up in an elegant bun but no scissor are to be involved. They happily agreed. Once they had curled the last strand of her hair, Louise gawked at herself. She looked beautiful.

Carey placed her chin on her older sister's shoulder as Viola knelt beside her, admiring her through the mirror. "You look gorgeous, Lou," Viola spoke, her Brummie accent finally fading into a more Gordie one after living with the Davies for nearly a decade now.

Louise grinned, as Carey placed her hands on her shoulder. "I can't believe you're getting married, Lou!" Carey squealed. "I can't believe I'm gonna I'm the maid of honour!"

The three girls loved each other greatly so when their weddings came around, it was incredibly difficult to choose a maid of honour. But they came up with a system. Viola was the first one to be married and she chose Louise. Then for Carey's wedding, Viola was the maid of honour. And now it was Louise's wedding, and that left Carey to have the honour. It sounds simple now but at the time of creating the system, it was much harder and caused a few arguments and tears to be shed, but it only them strong as a band of sisters.

Louise and Viola laughed at the younger girl as she happily clapped her hands and squealed. Pat and Margret soon entered the room, laughing together. It made the brunette's heart swell when the two older women became close friends. The two mothers saw Louise and both gasped in delight. "Oh, sweetie, you look perfect!" Pat exclaimed, embracing her oldest daughter.

Margret hugged Louise after. "Me son is one lucky lad, ain't he?" She laughed.

Louise smiled and blushed. She couldn't believe that she was going to have a future with Jack Collins. If you had told her that 7 years ago when she first laid eyes on the wet, blond pilot, she wouldn't have believed you. But here she was, in a floor-length wedding gown, about to marry the very man.

Carey placed the sheer lace veil over her sister's face and nearly cried. "Oh my goodness, you look angelic, Lou!"

"Oh, shove off before you make us cry, Caz," Louise chuckled.

A knock sounded at the door and it slowly creaked open revealing Gerald. Gerald grinned at his oldest daughter donned in the most gorgeous wedding dress. "It's time, loves. You two get to your seats," He gently shoved Pat and Margret out of the room. "Right then, Vi, you take Chrissie down to meet Jason," Vi took Chrissie's hand and walked out. Chrissie was going to be the flower girl and Jason, Vi and Andrew's son, was the ring-bearer. "Ladies, you out next. Just wait outside the entrance to the chapel, ok?" Gerald gestured for the remaining bridesmaids - Carey, Suzie, Uma and Jenny - out of the room, leaving the father and daughter alone. "You look lovely, Lou-Lou," Gerald spoke, using her nickname from when she was a like girl. Louise smiled, her cheeks beginning to ache from the number of smiles she had given off that day. "You ready?"

Louise nodded, hooking her arm through her fathers as they walked down to the chapel's entrance where the bridesmaids, flower girl and ring-bearer were waiting.

Louise took a shaky breath. She was ready but she felt like she would either cry of happiness at the sight of Jack waiting at the altar for her or from hysteria at the sight of him in his kilt.

The doors leading to outside the church opened quickly causing all of the bride's party to whip their heads at the sound. Louise gasped at the late guest. It wasn't in annoyance but rather in happiness. It was Murphy Gray. They hadn't heard back from his invitation so presumed he wouldn't show up but here he was.

"Murphy?" Louise questioned, her smile large.

Murphy grinned with a nod. "Hello, nurse," he spoke. "Sorry, I'm late. I got lost," he breathed out a laugh.

"You're here, that's more important," Louise grinned. Carey ushered the man into the chapel quietly. He took a seat at the back of the church so he wouldn't disturb the quiet chatter amongst the area. Jack and Murphy locked eyes briefly, but Jack simply nodded at him with a smile, thankful that he showed up.

Carey nodded to her sister in reassurance before sticking her head back through the chapel entrance, signalling to the organ player to start playing. Jenny walked down first, followed by Uma, then Suzie. After a hug, Viola then Carey walked down the aisle, both winking at their husbands who stood beside Jack at the front of the altar. Angus stood proudly by his brother's side, his head held high as if the title of best man was plastered over his forehead. Jack remembered asking him and Angus jumped into his brother's arm and shouted a yes.

Gerald gestured for Chrissie to link her arm with Jason's as they walked down the aisle together.

Then after a moment, Gerald looped his daughter's arm to rest in the crook of his elbow and guided her into the chapel. All of the guests stood up in her presence and the feeling was overwhelming. She felt like the Queen.

But her eyes remained solely on Jack Collins. He grinned at the sight of his soon-to-be-wife and his eyes teared up at the thought. He felt like the luckiest person alive to be marrying Louise Davies. Louise Collins. It had a nice ring to it that both Jack and Louise were more than happy to adopt.

Once the father and daughter were at the end of the aisle, he handed off his daughter to Jack with a firm handshake. Jack held onto Louise's tightly. "You're perfect, Louie," Jack whispered to her.

"You're not so bad yourself, Jackie. With you kilt," she whispered back once the priest began the ceremony with a snigger. Jack discreetly shoved her in the ribs playfully before winking down Neither Jack nor Louise really listened to his speeches until it came to their vows.

The vows were nothing terribly special. Neither one of them were particularly good with their words so asked their families for help. In the end, nothing they wrote was good enough to describe the amount of love they held for each other so they stuck with the simple 'I adore yous' and 'I vow to love you until the end of time' and all that. They already knew that the other would love them forever, so didn't see a reason to prove it to everyone else.

"Do you Jack Andrew Collins take Louise Jane Davies to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The priest asked.

Jack smiled, holding Louise's hands between his. "I do," he spoke, sliding the simple gold wedding ring onto Louise's finger.

"Do you Louise Jane Davies take Jack Andrew Collins to be your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The priest turned to Louise.

"I do," Louise breathed out with a nod as she too slipped a similar wedding ring onto Jack's finger.

"By the power vested in me by God, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride," the priest finished with a smile, closing his bible and holding it to his chest in delight.

Jack wasted no time in grabbing ahold of Louise's waist and dipping her, his arm supporting her head gently. He pushed his lips onto hers and she gladly returned the kiss, gripping onto his shoulder to deepen the kiss.

"I love you, Mr Jack Collins," Louise breathed after they pulled away from the passionate kiss, her forehead resting on her husband's. Her whisper only made for him amongst the cheers, whistles and applause coming from their families.

"I love you too, Mrs Louise Collins," Jack winked down at her and picked her up in a bridal style, carried out of the church to start their future together.
