Chapter 1

"Isn't it strange that we talk least about the things we think about most?"
– Charles Lindbergh

The wind was blowing roughly as the sky grew darker with rain clouds. Kira Asterin Rose sat on her window seat reading Hogwarts: A history.

Footsteps were heard coming up the stairs, it's followed by the sound of a door clicking and opening. Kira turned towards her bedroom door to see her mother Christine Rose standing in the doorway.

Kira smiles and greets her mother, "Evening Mother. Is there anything you need?" The Rose's children were taught from a young age to speak proper English and show as much respect as possible to their elders.

Christine smiled, proud of her youngest daughter, who was leaving for Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry the next morning. Kira was ecstatic to hear she had been accepted to Hogwarts. She's been waiting for years for her chance to go to Hogwarts, as her sister once did before her.

"Get away from the window Kira." Her mother spoke sternly. "Get some sleep, you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow." She added with a kind smile. Kira's parents have always been strict but they loved their children.

Kira nodded and returned the smile. She put her book down on her bedside table as her mother left the room. Kira climbed into her warm navy blue sheets. She couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts. Her older sister, Irene, had just graduated from Hogwarts the year before. Her brothers, Thomas and Charles were too young to be going to Hogwarts, with Thomas being 9 and Charles being 4.

Kira, deciding it was best to rest before tomorrow, closed her eyes and fell into a dreamless sleep.

Kira stepped onto the train after saying goodbye to her parents. She was nervous. Her parents had told her to only make friends with purebloods. She wouldn't want to make friends with muggleborns anyway.

The Rose Family believe in blood supremacy. Kira had been raised to believe muggles and mudbloods are a disgrace to the wizarding world. The Rose family didn't care for their Hogwarts house. Her family before her went to Beauxbatons and only her sister had been to Hogwarts. It was now Kira's turn. This didn't stop Slytherin Purebloods from recognising their worth though. They were very well known across Britain and even around America.

Though most people believed that pureblood supremists were only from Slytherin in Hogwarts, there were many who weren't in Slytherin, or who didn't even go to Hogwarts.

Kira found a compartment with a black-haired girl sitting there. She opened the door and knocked to get the attention of the girl.

"Excuse me, hello?" Kira greeted her.

The girl looked up. She had a clear face and blue eyes. She had a button nose and small lips. "Hello." She replied.

"Do you mind if I sit here?" Kira asked with a polite smile.

"Of course. I'm Ava Blackwell." The girl, Ava, smiled. The Blackwell's were a well known wizarding family. Purebloods.

"I'm Kira Rose." Ava smiled wider. She gestured for Kira to take a seat.

The two girls talked the entire train ride. They shared memories and interests. They found out more about each other. Both were happy to have found a friend, a pureblood at that. Their parents would certainly be pleased. The train soon came to a stop.

Kira stood next to Ava in the Great Hall. They were about to be sorted. Kira was only really paying attention to pureblood names she recognised.

"Ava Blackwell." Ava's name was called by a woman she knew as Professor McGonagall, head of Gryffindor.

Ava walked up to the stool and the sorting hat was placed upon her head. After 30 seconds her house was called. "RAVENCLAW!"

"Regulus Black." A Black. Kira knew of them. His older brother, Sirius, was sorted into Gryffindor last year.

Regulus was sorted into Slytherin.

A few more names were called before it came to her.

"Kira Rose." Kira walked up to the stool and sat down. The hat was placed on her head and it began talking.

"Ah another Rose. Very ambitious. Yes. But you crave knowledge. Very intelligent as well. I know just the house for you...RAVENCLAW!"

Kira was happy to be sorted into Ravenclaw. She found the common room to be beautiful. The amount of books in there was astonishing. Let's not forget the amazing architecture of the common room itself. It was lovely.

Ava Blackwell was so far her only friend in Ravenclaw, but she wasn't bothered by it. She was happy. At least on the outside.

Young Kira Rose sat in her new bed in the middle of the night. Her mind racing with thoughts.

Her father was not here. She was safe until Christmas. He couldn't hurt her now.

That's what she told herself. She told herself he wouldn't hurt her. He couldn't. He was at her home in London. She was in a castle in Scotland.

Yet even at the slight relief the scars that littered her back still burned.
