EPILOGUE

five years later

It was an odd feeling. He hadn't felt air rush through his lungs in what felt like centuries. White light consumed his vision as he opened his brown eyes. He felt different. He felt empty.

He looked around the room, seeing a woman standing above him. He didn't recognize her.

"You're awake," She whispered, surprise evident in her voice.

"Who are you?" He questioned.

"Davina Claire. I brought you back on orders of your brother, Klaus."

"Where is she?"

"Who?" Davina asked as she helped him sit up.

He swatted her hands away, not liking the foreign touch. "My wife. Sol. Where is she?"

"You mean the pilot? Sol Gilbert?"

"Yes. Where is she?"

Davina paused. She didn't know how to tell him. "Sol Gilbert died five years ago, Kol."

"What?" He whispered, his voice cracking.

"Yeah... We learned about her in class. She's known as 'America's greatest hero' now. They say it was a noble sacrifice."

"Why are you lying to me?" Kol yelled as he stood up, looming over the teenage girl.

Before he could do anything, the door burst open, Klaus walked inside, Elijah following behind him. "Brother. Let Davina go."

As soon as Davina was out of the room he turned to face his older brothers, "She's lying. Where is Sol?"

Elijah grasped his brother's arm, stopping him from leaving. "She wasn't lying, Kol. She died a month after you."

"No. No! No, no no. What? I- Why did you bring me back? I could have found her in peace! I could be with her!"

The sounds of waves crashing against the beach filled Kol Mikaelson's ears. The waves moved at a rhythmic pace, one coming after the other.

He glanced back behind him, seeing the mass of headstones. One stood out. There was a flag hanging beside it with flowers surrounding it.

There was a single picture laying in front of it. It was him and her. He had his arms wrapped around her waist as he kissed her cheek. She had the brightest smile on her face as she stared at the camera.

He remembered that day. It was in Portland. They had just gotten back from having a few drinks at the local bar and Sol had insisted on playing monopoly. Of course, the girl won. She was so happy.

He sighed, kneeling down in front of the stone. His finger moved out to trace the letters that were carved inside.

'Sol Evelyn Gilbert Mikaelson

June 7th 1990 - March 2nd 2011

May we meet in the stars'

A tear dripped down his cheek, his hand coming down to the ground, his fingers burying themselves into the dirt. He could almost feel her. So close yet so far.

As it turns out, star-crossed lovers were his least favourite trope too.

He sighed, breathing out as he stood up, "I spent a lifetime looking for you, and now I will spend a lifetime living for you, darling. I love you."

A small breeze brushed by and he could almost hear her voice say "I love you more."

A/N

And that's the end of 'Romeo and Juliet'! I hope you loved it as much as I did! Sorry if it was sad.
