CHAPTER TWELVE
Kol and Sol's vacation came to an end quicker than they wished. They had only been gone for a week before they were called by the now undaggered Elijah and told to come back to the dreadful town known as Mystic Falls.
Every minute Sol had spent with Kol she felt as though a weight was being lifted from her chest. Every minute Kol spent with Sol he felt his heart slowly being repaired. Even though they were only best friends they loved each other, though it wasn't the way Sol loved Nik or Kol loved Rebekah.
— — —
Being in Mystic Falls was the last place Sol wanted to be. Sure, she loved it when she was a kid, but now, after everything that went down, she would much rather be on the other side of the world.
"What did our brother do this time, Elijah?" Kol inquired as he and Sol stepped out of his black Audi, Sol stretching her legs as Kol spoke to the other original.
"He has our siblings once again. My plan is to undagger them tonight with the help of Damon Salvatore," Elijah answers, his eyes glancing over at Sol, smiling slightly when he sees her almost trip on a branch.
Kol rolled his eyes, stepping in front of his brother's vision as an act to cover Sol, "She's mine. Now, what do you want us to do?"
— — —
"It's nice to see you again, sexy suit man," Sol greets as she sits down on one of the luxurious couches in Nik's mansion that sat on the outskirts of Mystic Falls.
Elijah chuckles, "It's nice to see you again too, Sol. I see my brother has taken quite a liking to you."
"Kol? No, we're just friends."
"Just friends, huh? I've known my brother for a thousand years and he doesn't look at his friends the way he looks at you."
Sol looks at him, confusion filling her green eyes, "He looks at me differently? I thought he just wanted to murder me all the time."
"Well, that might be it too. Niklaus did tell me he threw you off a bridge after commenting on his hair."
"That's so not helpful. I thought you were the helpful sibl-"
"Are you two flirting? Stop flirting!" Kol shouts as he runs down the stairs.
Elijah sent a smile at Sol before leaving, "I'll give you two some space."
"Hey, Kol," Sol says with an innocent smile, the boy immediately catching on, "He didn't kiss you, did he?"
"No, Kol. It happened one time and it won't be happening again. I'm not into your brother."
Kol's shoulder's relaxed though they quickly tensed up once again, "What about Rebekah?"
"Somehow I'm not into her either."
"Then who- who are you into?"
"It's a secret," Sol whispers seductively into the vampire's ear, placing a kiss on his neck before walking away, leaving the boy flabbergasted.
— — —
"Throughout the course of this dinner, I want the both of you to behave, alright?" Elijah lectures, Klaus standing beside him whilst Sol and Kol lounge on the couches.
Sol, not bothering to look up from her book nods, "yeah, sure."
"What she said," Kol mutters as he continues to attempt to text.
Sol frowned at her phone when she received a message, "Kol, why did you send me that?"
"I sent you something?" He questions, still barely able to unlock his phone.
Klaus smirks, "What did he send you, love? Something naughty?"
"Ew, Nik, no. He sent me a picture of his forehead. Keep your head out of the gutter."
Both older Mikaelsons roll their eyes, but continue to watch as Sol scolds Kol for sending her random letters, promptly blowing up her phone with notifications.
— — —
Sol now sat beside Kol and Elijah, Nik sitting closer to Stefan and Damon.
"You lost your appetite," Klaus commented when he noticed Stefan had yet to touch his food.
"Eat. I thought we agreed that we would leave the grumpy Stefan at home," Damon muttered, kicking the younger boy's leg, earning a grumble. Stefan sighed before picking up his knife and fork making a smile appear on the hybrid's face.
"That's the spirit. Isn't it nice? Four of us dining together? Such a treat. Is this what you had in mind when you pulled the dagger from my brother?"
"Well, I know how he felt about you, so I figured the more, the merrier," Damon answered with a smirk.
"Well, Elijah and I have had our share of quarrels over the century. But we always make it through."
Both Kol and Sol rolled their eyes at his words. Even though they had only spent a short amount of time together, they had started to share the same mannerisms; Kol played with his rings when he was nervous and Sol made dirty jokes when she felt uncomfortable.
"Kind of like you and Rebekah, right? Where is she, by the way? Last I checked she was still daggered because you were afraid to face her."
"If you're referring to the fact that Rebekah knows I killed our mother, I've already come clean to Elijah and Kol."
Damon scoffs, "Hey, Stef, remember when you killed dad? Might want to dial down the judgment until dessert."
"We're here to make a deal, Damon. Doesn't mean we need to kiss his ass for seven courses."
Sol smirks, "Yeah, 'cause I'm sure you'd much rather kiss his lips."
Glaring at her, Damon sighs before he looks back at his brother, "I'm just saying we have a long evening ahead of us. Pace yourself."
— — —
"Stefan. Where is the lovely Elena tonight?" Elijah inquired as he took a sip of his wine that scarily looked like blood.
"I don't know. Ask Damon."
Klaus smirks, a small laugh escaping from his lips, "I'm sorry, you've missed so much. Ah, trouble in paradise. Quite ironic after what she did to our dear Sol. She was quite nasty to her."
Kol glanced beside him, seeing the girl looking down at her lap silently fiddling with her rings. He sighed before grabbing her hands, holding them securely as his thumb brushes back and forth against her palm.
"One more word about Elena and this dinner's over."
Damon gives a pained look, "You know what, probably best just to keep Elena in the do-not-discuss pile."
"You're probably right," Klaus agreed with a smirk.
"Yeah," Muttered Damon as he nervously glanced between Sol and the Mikaelson brothers.
"It's just the allure of the Petrova doppelgänger, still so strong. What do you say, brother? Should we tell them about Tatia?"
Elijah sighed, glancing back at Kol and Sol seeing the girl fiddling with Kol's hand, "Now why should we discuss matters long since resolved?"
"Well, given their shared affection for both Elena and Katerina, I think our guests might be curious to learn about the originator of the Petrova line."
Damon sends the brothers an intrigued look, "Well, we're not going anywhere Elijah. Please, do tell."
Elijah held back an eye roll as he stared at the older Salvatore, "When our family first settled here, there was a girl named Tatia. She was an exquisite beauty. Every boy of age desired to be her suitor, even though she'd had a child by another man. And none loved her more than Niklaus."
"I'd say there was one who loved her at least as much," Klaus disagreed as he took yet another sip of wine.
"Wait a minute. So you both loved the same girl?" Stefan pondered, his eyes moving from Elijah to Klaus, confusion swimming in them.
"Our mother was a very powerful witch. She sought to end our feud over Tatia and so she took her. Klaus and I would later learn that it was Tatia's blood that we consumed in the wine on the night where our mother performed the spell which turned us into vampires. Tatia wouldn't make a decision between the two of us, so for a time Niklaus and I...grew estranged. Harsh words were traded, we even came to blows, didn't we, brother?"
Klaus smiled, "But in the end, we realized the sacred bond of family."
"Family above all."
"Family above all," Klaus agrees as they lift their glasses, the glass clinking together.
Kol silently sighs at his brothers. He had never been included in the saying, he had only been forced to live with it. The saying really only included Niklaus, Elijah and Rebekah while himself and Finn were forced to follow it.
Sol quickly took notice of his change in emotion and squeezed his hand before finishing her food, "Kol and I will be in the kitchen."
"And why is that, love?" Klaus questions, watching as the pair stood, their hands intertwined.
"Let them go, brother. You know they won't leave."
Klaus sighs before gesturing them out of the room.
"You didn't have to do that. I was fine," Kol ushers out as he and Sol walk into his bedroom.
The raven-haired girl smiles, "You looked like you needed a break from the dramatics. And I didn't feel like listening about multiple love triangles... those are the worst trope."
"Trope? What's a trope?"
Sol grins, wrapping her arms around his neck, her hands intertwining at the nape, "Oh, I have so much to teach you, Koala. We're gonna have so much fun."
"Should I be scared?" Kol questioned, fire burning in his eyes as he stared down at the girl, shivers running down his spine as she continued to play with the hair at the nape of his neck.
"With me? Always."
