CHAPTER THIRTEEN

— — —

Sol woke up alone in Kol Mikaelson's bed, an act that had become more frequent throughout the last month. He had somehow taken away her nightmares and replaced them with peace. Her mind was no longer plagued with memories, she no longer thought about the past.

So, as she walked out of the boys bedroom, dressed in Kol's boxer shorts and one of his t-shirts, it led the Mikaelsons to many questions.

"Oh my god," Rebekah mumbles as she watches the woman lazily walk into the kitchen, her shirt riding up slightly as she reaches for a plate.

"Oh my god is right," Elijah agrees as he watches Kol join her, wrapping his arm around her waist as he grabs the plate for her.

"What?" Klaus questions, glancing over at the pair with a confused look, "Oh them? They are always like this."

"They are dating, right?"

"That's the best part, Sol doesn't even know he likes her. For someone so smart, she can be quite stupid."

Kol glances over, sending his brother a glare before looking back down at Sol who was eating a bowl of cereal. "Darling?" Kol speaks up after watching her for a moment.

She glances up from her breakfast, a curious look on her face, "Yeah?"

"Would you like to go to the ball with me?"

Sol almost burst out in laughter at his question but refrained when she saw the serious look in his eyes, "Wait, you're serious?"

He sends her a hopeful look, "Mhm."

"And what if I said I already had a date?"

Kol shrugs, "Well, they probably wouldn't live long enough to see you at the dance, so..."

"Alright then... But I'm not your date- we're just friends going to a dance together... that's all, got it?"

He smirks, lifting her face up by her jaw with his pointer finger, "Just friends? Is that what we are, darling?"

She almost chokes on her cereal, cursing at the fruitloops, "Mhm... Just friends."

"Alright. We'll see about that. Oh, and you and Bex are going shopping for dresses. Take my card and buy whatever you want."

She smiled as she got up, putting her dishes in the dishwasher, "This is a dangerous game you're playing, Mikaelson."

"I'll play any game if it involves me getting to dance with you."

"Such a flirt."

"Only for you."

— — —

"Do you like this one, Bekah?" Sol questions as she holds up a light lilac coloured dress, the blonde immediately shaking her head, "I can't pull off purple."

"Bullshit you can't. You could pull off a trash bag if you wanted to."

"Very nice, love. Now try this one on," Rebekah demands, her eyebrows arched as she handed the younger girl a red dress with pearls lining the neckline.

"I don't really know about this one... it's a little out there."

"Love, this is the plainest dress I could find that won't make you look like a poor tosser. Now try it on... besides, my brother will only accept a red dress... his rules, not mine."

"Red? Really?"

— — —

As Sol walked inside the Mikaelson mansion the first words she heard were "You clean up nice, spunky Gilbert."

Sol had to suppress a shudder as she fought the urge to throw up. "Damon... I would say it's a pleasure but then I'd be lying."

"My girl, so clever... Now, who are you? And why are you bothering my wife?" A voice says before an arm wrapped around her waist, holding her securely to their side.

Kol. It was Kol. It was always Kol.

The scent of his cologne, which she picked out, filled her nose as she leaned into his side, his touch bringing immediate comfort.

Damon stares at the couple, his heart beating out of his chest. "We uh we met last night. Damon Salvatore."

"I've met a lot of people... and you don't partially stand out. Now I'm going to take my girl for a dance and you will not go near her, got it?" He ended, a sickly smile on his face as he finished compelling the Salvatore.

"Stay away from spunky Gilbert. Got it. It was nice meeting you."

Sol smiled, letting out a breath as she watched him walk away before turning to face the original, "You didn't have to do that."

"I know, darling. I couldn't help myself... You're mine to look at, no one else's."

"Now it really sounds like we're dating," Sol muttered as she wrapped her arms around his neck, the boy gently swaying her to the sounds of 'so this is love' by Emile Pandolfi.

It was as though the world had slowed. It was just him and her. Kol and Sol. The lovers who were yet to be lovers. Romeo and Juliet.

"This may be a really bad time but... what are we?" Sol questioned quietly as her fingers toyed with his hair.

"Whatever you want, darling. I am yours for the taking, always and forever."

"All mine?"

"All yours, darling. Whatever you want, I'll be there."

"Maybe... Maybe we could start slow," Sol trailed off, absentmindedly glancing down at her necklace that had two wedding rings strung along the chain.

"Take however long you need. I don't care if it's months, decades or centuries, I will always be here."

— — —

As the night was coming to a close, the guests were brought back into the main hall where the Mikaelsons, minus Kol, stood on the staircase.

"Come on, darling," Kol says as he gestures towards the staircase, his hand weaving itself in hers as he leads her.

"What? No, Kol. I can't go up there."

The vampire frowned, "Why not?"

"Well... I'm not a Mikaelson- this looks like a family thing."

"Darling, you are already family and in a few years, you will be a Mikaelson. Now come before I make you."

"And if I don't?"

Kol smirked before leaning in to whisper in her ear. A bright red blush instantly appeared on her face at his words, her eyes glistening with desire as she stared at him.

"Oh?" Sol muttered, caving to him, letting him lead her up the stairs, before standing next to a smirking Rebekah.

"Shut up, Bex."

"I didn't say anything," The blonde answered, hiding her smirk as she stared at the guests whilst Esther spoke, "Good Evening, Ladies and gentlemen. Waiters are coming around with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. It provides me with no greater joy than to see my family back together as one. I'd like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening. Cheers!"

Sol glanced down at the red-tinged champagne before taking a sip along with the rest of the guests. The liquid glided down her throat as Kol wrapped his arms around her waist, walking her down the stairs and to the backyard.

"What are we doing out here?"

"It was getting a little crowded. I figured you would like some privacy," Kol informed as he took hold of her hand, playing with her fingers as he did so.

"You know me so well, Koala," She answers, a small grin on her face as she looked for constellations in the sky. "Hey look, there's the lion constellation," she muttered, staring at the stars that took shape in the form of a lion.

It had always been her favourite, especially when she learned it had possibly inspired her favourite play Romeo and Juliet. She always found their love story beautiful, two star-crossed lovers from very different families, the constant pining and the warming feeling when they finally got together.

Though Sol could never finish the play, not after the first time she read it. Though she says love triangles were her least favourite trope, it was actually star-crossed lovers. The mere idea that one had to lose the person they loved physically hurt her heart, especially after Parker's death.

"It's beautiful."

She sighed softly, taking in a deep breath of the cold November air as she glanced back at the Mikaelson. "I think I'm ready."

"For what, darling?" He questioned, affection filling his eyes as he stared down at her.

"For you," She said quickly before pressing her lips against his.

His breath was taken away at the feeling. Her plump pink lips pressed against his slightly chapped ones. The feeling mimicked what he thought was heaven and he couldn't believe it was finally happening.

To him, it had felt like centuries of waiting, pinning, and yearning for the girl of his dreams and here she was, her perfect lips against his.

It was a foreign feeling to Sol. She hadn't kissed someone like this in months. She hadn't even kissed Elijah like this. It was as though she had poured her heart and soul into this single kiss and luckily for her, he did as well.
