CHAPTER FOUR

Katherine Pierce woke to the sounds of screams. She didn't expect Klaus to be home so late, let alone torturing someone already.

Her back cracked as she stood up, her body already missing the comfortable bed as she walked out of her bedroom. The apartment was pitch black, the only light coming from the streetlights outside which illuminated Sol's sleeping body which lay on the couch.

Her body tossed and turned, small whimpers emitting from her lips, her eyes moving back and forth as she dreamed.

A frown appeared on Katherine's face as she walked closer to the human. "Sol? Hey, wake up!"

The vampire eyed her, a sigh emitting from her lips as she pulled a chair up to sit next to the girl.

"Sol... Wakey wakey." The sleeping girl only groans as she continues to shuffle in her sleep. Her brows knitted as she placed her hand on the girl's forehead, her mind immediately being submersed in Sol's dream.

"Here it comes," Sol yells as she flies past a mountain, Parker and Santiago following after her as missiles shoot after them.

"Radar warning! Smoke in the air. Parker, break right."

The man groaned as he spun to dodge the missile, "Emergency jettison. Mirk three defending."

"Here comes another one!" Santiago shouts, his eyes wide.

"Mirk one defending," Sol shouts as she hits the flare button. "Parker, status."

The man once again grunts as he pulls on the throttle, sweat beading on his forehead. "Oh, my god," He mutters as he sees four more missiles launch, each heading for him. "Smoke in the air! Smoke in the air!"

"Break right, Parker! Breaking right," Santiago yells as he spun his jet upside down. "Oh, my god, here they come!"

"Sol on your six, Parker!"

"Deploying countermeasures," Parker informs as he smacks the red flare button on his left.

"Negative contact."

Sol glances over, seeing five missiles heading for Parker, "Mirk one defending. Talk to me, Santiago. Break right, Parker!"

"Nine o'clock! Nine o'clock!"

"Parker, two more on your six," Sol shouts as sweat glistens on her forehead.

"Mirk two, defending."

"Parker, Sol on your nose. Mirk three defending."

It was a mass of yelling, Katherine barely making it out as she watched more missiles shoot at them.

"Mirk two defending," Parker shouts as he presses the flare button only for nothing to happen, "Shit, I'm out of flares!"

Sol glances back at the jet behind her, "Parker, evade, evade!"

"I can't shake 'em! They're on me! They're on me!"

Sol grunts as she pulls the throttle to her stomach, the jet going straight to the sky as she manoeuvres it to be behind Parkers before smacking the flare button.

"Sol! No!" Parker shouts as one of the missiles hits the CTOL horizontal tail, her jet shutting down, and multiple beeps going off as she falls from the sky.

"Mirk one is hit! I repeat, mirk one is hit!"

"Sol is down."

"Mirk one, status."

"Status!"

Parker's eyes trail around, moving rapidly in an attempt to find her, "Anyone see her? Does anyone see her?"

"Mirk one, come in! I didn't see a parachute."

Sol's eyes close as her jet spins rapidly, the nose facing the ground. Blood spewed from her head, her ribs cracking as the throttle blew back into her.

"We have to circle back!" Shouts Santiago through her broken radio."Mirk spare request permission to launch and fly air cover."

"Negative, spare."

"Launch search and rescue."

"Negative. Not with bandits in the air."

"But, sir, Sol is still out there."

"We are not losing anyone else today."

"Parker, Santiago, you are not to engage. I repeat, do not engage."

The feeling of her jet crashing was the last thing Sol felt before her eyes closed.

Sol's eyes shoot open as she sits up, her heart racing. She choked as she attempted to catch her breath. Her face was pale, dark circles under her eyes as she stared at the wall across the room as though her mind had gone blank.

"Sol? You alright? That was a pretty crazy dream."

The girl stayed silent, her eyes still trained on the wall as she fought tears.

"Sol? Why were you dreaming of something like that?"

"It wasn't a dream."

— — —

Another day had passed and Klaus still had yet to show up and Katherine was getting antsy. She had run out of blood the night before and having a human in the house was not helping her hunger.

"Are you sure you don't want me to leave? I could just stop at the hospital, grab some blood bags and leave. I would be in and out, no question."

"Klaus would kill me if I let you leave."

"Well, you might kill me first if you don't feed."

Katherine smiles as she sits on the island, Sol on the other side of the room. "I've lived over 500 years, sweetheart. I know how to control myself."

"Hello, Katherine," A voice says as the door opens, Stefan walking inside.

"Two days I've been waiting. Two days of trying not to rip out Sol's throat. I'm supposed to be free of Klaus's compulsion by now. He's supposed to be dead."

"We ran into complications," Stefan mutters as he glanced over to Sol, silently making sure she was okay.

"Complications?"

"Doesn't really matter. I just need to find him. Do you have any idea where he might be?"

Katherine's ears perk before she grabs onto Stefan's neck, speeding him against the wall before shushing him. "Klaus. You're back."

"Look who decided to come for a visit," She says as she gestures to Stefan and Sol.

"Sol. I knew you'd come back."

The black-haired woman only rolls her eyes, sending a small smile to Elijah who stood behind Klaus.

"You just keep popping up, don't you, Stefan?"

"I need your help," Stefan spoke as he escaped from Katherine's hold. "For my brother."

"Well whatever it is, it's going to have to wait. You see, I have an obligation to my brother... that requires my immediate attention," He smirks as he walks past Sol, opening a small box while Elijah and Stefan conversed.

Sol's eyes widen as she watches Klaus pull out a small silver dagger before dipping it in white ash. Her jaw clenches as he sends her an innocent smile before walking back to Elijah, holding the dagger behind him.

"My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with my own."

"And so I shall."

When Elijah turned to face Klaus, the dagger went straight through his heart. His skin turned grey as dark purple veins scattered across his once-perfect skin. Elijah screams in pain as his knees give out, his body falling to the ground only to be caught by Sol.

She stared down sadly at the now-dead original, her thumb rubbing his cheek as his eyes closed. She tore her eyes away from his body, the sight bringing back memories she didn't want to relive, instead choosing to watch Klaus strangle Stefan.

"Now, what am I going to do with you?"

Stefan glares at him through his eyebrows, his eyes appearing as though they were black.

Klaus only grins as he lets the younger vampire go before grabbing a blood bag and holding it in front of his nose. "I heard about this one vampire, crazy bloke, always on and off the wagon for decades. When he was off, he was magnificent. 1917, he went into Monterey and wiped out an entire migrant village. A true ripper. Sound familiar?"

Stefan sighed, staring at the ground before looking back up, "I haven't been that way in a very long time."

"Well, that's the vampire I can make a deal with. That is the kind of talent... that I can use when I leave this town." He pauses, a smirk on his face as he holds a hand out to Katherine, "Katerina. Come here."

The woman stares at him warily but does as she's told, placing her hand in his only for him to grab it and bite into her flesh. Her scream emitted across the room, Alaric's neighbours no doubt heard it.

She stared at the bite in shock, "No! No, no no."

Klaus bites into his wrist before shoving it against Katherine's mouth, forcing his blood down her throat and causing her wound to heal. "You want your cure? There it is."

"Your blood is the cure," Stefan stammered as he stared at Katherine's wrist.

"Gotta love mother nature. Now... let's talk, you and I."

Sol smiles slightly, earning a confused look from Katherine who now stood beside her. "Those two need to fuck already. You could cut the sexual tension with a knife."

Katherine chuckles, covering it with a cough when Klaus sends her a glare. "I think you're right. With how he's acting I don't think he's gotten laid in decades... Maybe even centuries."

"Makes sense. He has a microdick... and he's an ass... 2 + 2 equals no one wanting to sleep with you."

"I still don't know how he hasn't killed you for calling him that."

"It's because he knows it's true."

The sounds of Stefan slurping caused a frown to form on the human's face.

"You're very cooperative," Klaus notes as he sits next to Sol, his arm wrapped around the human as he watches Stefan in wonder. "It's almost as if you are enjoying it."

"No more. Not until you give me the cure," Stefan begs as Klaus throws him another blood bag.

"Not until we make a deal. It's your choice, Stefan. You can either remain here living your life in Mystic Falls or you can embrace what you truly are. Leave town with me and save your brother's life."

Stefan growls as he grabs the blood bag before tearing into it with his fangs.

"That's the spirit. Katerina..." Klaus utters as he walks closer to the female vampire before handing her the vial of his blood, "Take this over to Damon and come right back."

"You want me to leave?"

"No-" Stefan quaked as he dropped the now empty bag.

"Yes. And if I were you-" Before he could finish his sentence the woman was gone along with the vile. "I'd hurry."

Klaus smirks at Stefan as he moves to sit next to Sol once again, the girl glaring at him as he wraps his arm around her.

"She'll never take it to him. She'll never take it to him."

— — —

Katherine smirks as she walks inside Damon's bedroom, seeing her doppelganger and Damon kissing.

"Thank you," He mumbles, his eyes closed as his heart slowed. "You're welcome."

"Well, it's me you should be thanking. I mean, I'm the one who brought the cure."

Elena stands from the bed watching as Katherine walks over to Damon only to pause in front of her, "I thought you were dead. I know your sister did and let me tell you, she did not take it well. She tried to leave so many times I almost had to tie her down on the bed... I'm sure she would have appreciated a text."

Elena stays quiet as Katherine gives Damon the cure, pouring the blood down his throat, his skin going back to its natural colour immediately.

"You got free?"

"Yep. Finally."

"And you still came here?"

"I owed you one. And now you owe both Sol and I. She's stuck with Klaus because of you... Do you have any idea what he's going to do to her?"

"Where's Stefan?" Elena questions as the woman stands, moving away from Damon.

"Are you sure you care? I mean you clearly have no care for your older sister... I practically just told you he was going to kill her and all you care to ask is where your other boyfriend is."

"Where is he?"

"He's paying for this. He gave himself over to Klaus. I wouldn't expect him anytime soon. And Sol... She'll be dead by the end of the day... Too bad, she was sweet, much better than you. I almost wish she was the one related to me."

"What do you mean he gave himself over?"

Katherine chews on her lip before answering, "You really don't care about her, do you? He just sacrificed everything to save his brother, including you. It's a good thing you have Damon to keep you company. Goodbye, Elena."

The woman pauses before she could walk out of the room, "Oh... it's okay to love them both. I did."

— — —

"Why do I have to come with you? You just killed my little sister and left my brother and aunt with no one... I'm no use to you so why not let me go?" Sol questioned as they walked through a storage unit, Klaus pushing Elijah who lay dead in his coffin.

"Because I like you, sweet little Sol. And because you have no choice," He answers as he puts Elijah's coffin in with the others.

Sol glances inside the small room filled with five coffins, her eyes immediately going to one. She walks over to it slightly before looking back at Klaus, "May I?"

"Just don't pull out the dagger."

She nods before slowly opening the coffin, a man with light brown hair appears. His outfit was dated though that didn't take away his beauty.

Her eyes trailed over his face, his skin in a similar condition to Elijah's though that didn't seem to matter. He was still just as beautiful.

"Who is he?" She asks as Klaus walks back inside.

"That would be my dear little brother, Kol."

She smiles softly, her heart skipping a beat at something so simple. "Kol."
