Mara has a black cat whom she affectionately calls "Midnight" for the cat's dark fur and dark blue midnight eyes. Mara found the stray while looking through the dumpsters in the Isle where it appeared as though the cat was torn out. Since then, her and Midnight have been inseparable.

Mother "Dame" Gothel - Despite their seemingly close appearance together, these two are far from close as Mara is emotionally and verbally abused by Mother Gothel, which Mara unwittingly mimics her mother's behavior to Jay [hence why the ex-thief ended their relationship].

Their relationship will reach a point where Mara decides to cut Mother Gothel out of her life. Unfortunately, Mother Gothel will have a hold on her that forces Mara into rethinking her decision, coming to the point that she was the selfish one and not her mother.

However with the help of Uma, her friends and [soon-to-be] allies in her cousin and aunt, Mara will discover the truth about her father's disappearance and learn secrets about her mother that will cause her to see the real side of Mother Gothel, ultimately freeing herself from her mother's control for good.

Walter Gothel - Mara is far more closer with her father as he often did his best to raise her away from Mother Gothel's influence. Yet when her father doesn't return, Mother Gothel tricks Mara into believing that he abandoned them, causing her to resent her father.

However when Mara finds a letter addressed to her by her father on her seventeenth birthday, Mara starts to realize that her father didn't abandon her like Mother Gothel made it out to be. So as she starts to investigate, Mara finds that her mother is hiding secrets that want out.

Cassandra Gothel - Having grown up hearing terrible things about her aunt, Mara vow to make the woman pay for turning her back on their family.

However when the two meet for the first time and her aunt insists that Mother Gothel doesn't love her [as her aunt was in the same position], Mara naturally doesn't believe her until she starts discovering secrets about her father's disappearance, leading her to believe that Cassandra was telling the truth after all. As a result, their relationship will change for the better.

Apollo Gothel - When the two meet for the first time, she takes an aggressive approach to Apollo, not believing him when he tries to help her see the lies Mother Gothel was telling Mara.

However when Apollo agrees to help Mara find out the truth about her father and he starts to show signs of being trustworthy, their relationship will change for the better.

Personality:
Much like her mother, Mara demonstrates theatrical flair with much enthusiasm and dramatics. Additionally, Mara often relies on her intellect to achieve her ambitions [as she, like her mother, doesn't possess any powers].

However, Mara isn't one to brag about her beauty [possibly because her mother is often nitpicking about her flaws, which has contributed to the way the girl views herself] nor is she vain like her mother. In fact, she despises her mother's vanity and has dedicated herself to stay away from mirrors.

More so, Mara can appear meek, especially in moments that the girl feels intimidated and has a naive approach towards romantic love [given that she was mainly raised by her mother since her father 'abandoned' her]. As such, she may treat her lover the way she was treated by her mother, which Mara believes is normal.

However, it isn't until her relationship with Jay fails that she becomes self-aware of her abusive-like behavior. It also doesn't help that Mara begins to develop feelings toward Uma around this time, which makes the girl nervous as she's afraid to hurt Uma like she did to Jay.

But eventually, Mara will learn and overcome her abusive relationship to her mother, reunite with her father and explore the world outside of the Isle, leaving Auradon and her mother's enemies behind her.

Brief overview on their legacy:
Mother Gothel - Blessed with eternal youth from a magical flower, she went to kidnap the young Princess Rapunzel [who had obtained the healing magic from the flower] and raise the girl as her own. After years of keeping Rapunzel hidden and isolated from the outside world, a certain rouge thief by the name of Eugene Fitzherbert ruins everything for her.

From there, Gothel tragically met her end at the hands of Rapunzel's own hair when the girl's hair began turning brown, ultimately turning Mother Gothel back into her old-age state before the woman trips and falls straight to her death, turning into nothing more than mere dust upon her cloak reaching the ground.

Manipulation - Similar to how Mother Gothel manipulates her, Mara has unwittingly picked up on her mother's behavior and as a result, the girl can skillfully manipulate a situation to her favor.

Intuitive Aptitude: Like her mother, Mara is known to be very intelligent and a quick learner as she learn how to steal from others early on. Additionally, she's clever in the sense of getting others to do her bidding for her without having to deal with her side of the bargain as she goes behind people's backs.

Weakness(es):
Short tempered - Mara can be angered very, very easily and as such, she tends to act with violence. She doesn't think firsthand, which has resulted in terrible consequences for the girl. Although Mara has somewhat gotten better as she has gotten older, she can still have her violent outbursts.

Trust issues - Given her friends [presumably] abandoned her as they never came back for her as promised prior to their departure from the Isle of the Lost, Mara is reluctant to trust others and she's skeptical of forming close, intimate relationships with others because of these issues.

By acting brash and reckless, Mara is able to maintain control over how people perceive her but once she learns her childhood best friend [Uma] shares the same hatred as she does, Mara decides to team up with her and Uma's friends to exact her revenge against the four VKs.

1. Mara's relationship with Ruby [OC belongs to Sci-Briana17] will be similar to Mal's relationship with Audrey in the sense of the two being antagonistic toward each other and given how they're both daughters of their respective enemy.

2. Mara's relationship with Mother Gothel is similar/shadows Catra's own relationship with Shadow Weaver from Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power in the sense of Mara being stuck in a toxic environment where she must hardened herself in order to survive [essentially].

3. Though not intentional, Catra from Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power served as a inspiration for Mara.

4. Mara thought she was displaying affection to Jay when the two were younger, only it isn't until later that the girl realizes that she was actually being abusive towards her ex-boyfriend. Because of this, she doesn't try [nor will she attempt] to interrupt Jay and Ruby's [OC belongs to Sci-Briana17] relationship.

However, Mara will still try to get inside Jay's head because well, she wouldn't be her mother's daughter if she wasn't trying to emotionally screw people over. She will also try to do the same to Ruby [OC belongs to Sci-Briana17], but the girl won't fall for her lies [which will lead Jay into standing up against her].
