Chapter 50 - Scars
In the morning, I decided to just let Newt sleep, so I got breakfast and sat down on my own. Mivy and Liana already sat at our table, but the boys were nowhere to be seen.
"Morning." Liana greeted. "Logan, I swear to god.." she mumbled. "He was acting crazy!"
"And Minho," Mivy added.
My cheeks turned red when I thought about what Newt did. "Newt peed in our laundry basket." I blurted out. Liana and Mivy looked at me in disbelief before laughing out loud. Soon we were almost rolling over the floor when Mivy and Liana also told their stories with their boyfriends.
"Holy shuck. How can someone be this happy in the morning?" Thomas groaned as he sat down. "How can you laugh at this time?" He put a hand on his forehead.
"Got a hangover?" Mivy grinned.
"Oh, shut it." Thomas leaned his head on his hand. I chuckled lightly and kept eating. Not so long after, Logan walked over to us.
"My head." He grumbled and slammed his plate down onto the table. "I feel like I'm gonna vomit."
"You already did that multiple times." Liana gave him an innocent smile with a grin hidden behind it.
Logan sighed and started eating. His hair was messier than usual, but for someone who had a hangover, he looked fine. Just like Thomas.
Later Minho joined us. Light bags under his eyes and a bit pale, but of course, his hair was perfectly styled like always. "Very good morning." He growled.
"Oh no, baby." Mivy dramatically pouted. "Feeling a little sick?"
Minho buried his head in his hands and ignored Mivy's comment.
"There he is." I sighed once I saw Newt walking over to us. His hair was the messiest of all and he also had small bags under his tiredly looking eyes. "Hey, Newt."
Newt groaned and didn't reply, just sat down next to me. "I feel awful."
"You look awful." Minho blurted out.
"Talk for yourself." Newt snapped. "What did I do?"
"Not the same thing as Nora did the last time she was drunk, at least." Minho grinned and looked at me.
The two girls raised their eyebrows. "You better tell us that story sometime," Liana ordered.
I ignored them and turned to Newt. "You vomited two times, wanted to take a swim, tried to bite your own nose off, and peed in our laundry basket."
Minho's eyes started to twinkle. "You pissed onto your own clothes!"
Newt's face dropped. "Let's not talk about that." He groaned.
"We can still take a swim." Logan suddenly suggested. "I mean, we all have a headache and I'm sure a cold swim would help."
"Yes!" Liana laughed. "I made Mivy and Nora bikinis either way, so that's perfect! I got you a yellow one, Nor."
A small smile appeared on my face.
"Don't you dare say it, Nora." Newt gave me a warning glance.
"Like Newt's hair," I whispered to only him and the girls.
"So are we taking a swim in the sea?" Logan asked.
Everyone agreed as I bit my lip and thought about it. "I don't know."
They all turned to me. Great.
"I'll protect you from the fish. I promise." Newt assured.
That was not the problem.
"I don't have a headache anyways, so you guys just go."
"But we are going too!" Liana motioned at Mivy and herself.
"The water is cold," I added.
"You'll get used to it after a while," Thomas replied.
"What if I drown?"
"You won't drown, love." Newt chuckled lightly. "Just try if the bikini fits and then we'll go swim."
With a bad feeling in my stomach, I nodded and finished my food. In the meanwhile, Liana had grabbed the bikinis. She gave me a yellow one. It was just a plain, normal bikini, but beautiful. Hesitantly I followed Newt into our hut.
Newt smiled at me. "I'll go change in the bathrooms, okay?"
I nodded, happy that Newt was so gentle. He walked away and closed the door. Quickly I put the bikini on and looked in our large mirror.
Dozens of scars were on my body. That was the problem. A very big, red-whiteish one was on my stomach, the stab from the Crank, followed by some smaller triangle-shaped ones. My thighs had white cuts on the inside, which luckily almost faded. On the back of my legs were more stabs from the Crank. My right wrist was completely covered in long, white cuts. The left one was the same but with fewer cuts. Some of them were fading away, others were still fresh and red. In the middle of my chest was another white scar, all the skin around it tightened. It was the stab I got when I got the Flare. My back also had stabs and slices, clearly visible. On my side was a round scar. From the Griever it's leg.
I hated how I got them. I hated that I did some of them myself. I hated that I couldn't defend myself. I hated to show off all the scars to everyone. I hated my body. I hated myself. I hated, I hated, I hated.
My chest tightened as I felt tears form in my eyes. I couldn't go swimming like that. Everyone would stare and think about my body.
Quickly I grabbed a bathrobe and put it on before sitting down on the ground and bursting out in tears. I pulled my knees up to my chest and cried into them, trying not to sob too loudly.
"Nora, love?" Sounded from outside the door. "Did you finish getting dressed?"
"Not yet." My voice cracked, but you couldn't hear me sob through it.
"Let me know when you are," Newt said.
I sniffed quietly and kept thinking about all the scars, which made everything worse. After a while, Newt spoke again. "Did you finish?"
"Almost."
I knew I had to come out of the hut once, or Newt had to come in. I couldn't keep hiding forever.
"Is it okay if I come in?" Newt asked after a few more minutes.
Quickly I wiped the tears off my cheeks, but they kept coming. "Okay," I answered, still sitting on the floor.
Newt opened the door and walked into our hut. His eyebrows furrowed slightly once he saw me sitting with tears falling down my cheeks.
"Sorry." I sniffed and rubbed my eyes again.
"It's okay." Newt gently said.
"Newt, I don't.. I don't really know if I want to go swimming." I looked down as Newt pulled me up from the ground.
"Why not? I promise I will save you from the fish and seaweed." Newt chuckled lightly, but I didn't.
"I don't care about the fish." I fidgeted with the bathrobe.
"Then what is it?" Newt asked, very softly. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it lightly.
"It's just- I-." I sighed, finding it hard to explain. "Look." I removed the bathrobe and revealed all the scars to Newt. Of course, he had definitely seen me like this multiple times, so it wasn't really Newt who was the problem. I was more scared of the others their reactions.
Newt stared at my body for a few seconds, making my chest tighten even more. "The only thing I see is a beautiful body," Newt commented. I blushed, but couldn't smile yet.
"But look at those." I pointed at all the scars. "They're ugly! And what will the others think? I look horrible like this."
Newt looked at me in disbelief. "You don't look ugly or horrible, love." He started. "All these scars.. they show how much you fought. And now you're here, in the Safe Haven. You deserve to be here and those scars show of how hard you worked for that." Newt bent down and slowly started kissing each scar on my collarbone. "You're beautiful and got nothing to worry about." He said through his kisses. "Each one of them shows how strong you are, so don't be ashamed." He took my hand and started kissing the cuts on my wrist. "And everyone is proud of you, especially me. The others are your best friends, so I know they won't comment stupid stuff. They are proud of you too, just like Clint, and Jeff, Chuck, Winston. All of us."
Tears were streaming down my face as Newt kept saying sweet things and kissing each scar.
"So now you're just going to swim, show them off your beautiful body, and tell them you're a warrior. My warrior." Newt got up from his knees and grabbed both of my hands. "Understand?"
I nodded, eyes still watery and heart melting. "I love you," I whispered.
Newt smiled. "I love you too." He wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tightly. I closed my eyes at the comfort when Newt slowly rubbed my back with his hand, the other one on the back of my head.
Once Newt let go of me again, he cupped my face and wiped the tears off of my cheeks with his thumbs. "Ready to go?"
"Ready."
