Chapter 41 - "I missed you"
Nora's POV
With a few groans, I opened my eyes.
"She's awake!" Someone yelled.
Confused I had to blink a few times before I could see clearly. Then everything that happened came back to me. I shot straight up, looking right into Logan's eyes. Just then Minho and Thomas walked in too.
"Where's Newt?" I asked. My voice was a bit hoarse.
"Really? You just woke up and all you care about is Newt, and not yourself?" Minho raised his eyebrows, but once he saw my serious face, he told me Newt was fine in his own bed. Still unconscious, but not freezing anymore.
"Can I see him?" I wondered.
"Later," Thomas replied. "But first you need to tell us what happened."
I sighed and started explaining. "Since Newt gave me a ring, I thought to do something back and make a bracelet for him. I had to get the diamonds myself, in the mountains. So I'm the morning I left early. When I walked back, through the woods, I saw Newt. He was panting and crying. A few seconds after I walked over to him, he fainted." I explained, taking some pauses in between. "I started dragging him back to the Safe Haven, but it was late and very cold. I had to take a break every ten minutes and eventually turned so cold, I got unconscious too."
"Holy shuck." Minho sighed.
"What happened to Newt's hand?" Thomas questioned. The three boys all turned to me again.
"I don't know. When I saw him, his hand was already bleeding." I shrugged.
"Did you get your diamonds?" Logan asked.
"Yeah. In my backpack." I simply replied.
The boys looked at me in confusion. "What backpack exactly?"
"The red one. I wore it in the woods."
"No, you didn't. You weren't wearing any backpack." Logan realized.
My breathing hitched. I lost the diamonds. Everything was for nothing. Newt fainted for nothing. We froze for nothing.
Tears formed in my eyes. Logan and Minho stared at me crying, while Thomas sat down next to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
"You can see Newt if you want. He's on the other side of the hut." He gently said. I appreciated him a lot for doing that.
I nodded and wiped my tears away. "Sorry 'bout that." I got up from my seat. Thomas opened the curtain that separated my bed from the hut and together we walked to another closed curtain.
"Here." Thomas motioned for me to go in and left me alone. "I'll wait here."
I gave him another thankful nod before turning to Newt. His arms were wrapped around a pillow, his mouth slightly open, and his face less pale than before. It looked just like he was sleeping. Immediately a comfortable feeling washed over me at that thought.
I stared at his hand for a few seconds. It was bandaged up, and I was starting to get curious about what happened. I flinched lightly when Newt suddenly rolled over and made a small noise.
"Newt?" I whispered, hoping badly he would wake up. I wanted to talk to him. Newt grunted quietly and then opened his eyes. "Newt!" I almost jumped out of happiness. He was awake!
Newt looked confused and nervous at first, but once his eyes met mine his gaze softened. He opened his arms, embracing me. I didn't hesitate to hug him tightly. Newt chuckled as he put one of his hands on the back of my head. It was a very long hug.
"I'm glad you're safe," Newt whispered, never letting go. I tightened my grip even more. "But I think I might suffocate, love." Newt laughed.
I smiled and freed Newt from me. "Come here." Newt moved to the side so I could lie down on the empty spot. Quickly I got in the bed, not caring about Thomas who still waited outside for me.
Newt gently grabbed me by the waist and pulled me so close to him, our noses touched. "I was bloody worried about you." Newt looked me in the eyes. "Where did you go?"
"Can we talk about it later?" I asked, a bit unsure. I didn't feel like telling him I lost the diamonds yet.
"Of course." Newt kissed me for just a second, then let go again.
I blushed deeply. Though we nearly died, he still managed to make me feel fluttered. "But can you tell me what happened to your hand?"
Newt inspected his own bandaged hand like he hadn't noticed it before. "I punched a tree." He realized out loud.
"You- what?" My eyes opened wide. Why the hell would Newt do that to himself?
"I thought about Logan and how he hurt you while searching for you." Newt quickly explained. "But it'll be fine."
A bit sad about Newt's hand, I looked down. My fault. All my fault.
"Hey." Newt lifted my chin up. "It's okay."
Slowly I nodded just before Newt pressed his lips onto mine again. For a second my eyes opened wide, but then I relaxed and kissed back.
"I missed you," Newt whispered.
"Thomas is right outside and we just nearly died." I reminded Newt when he got on top of me.
"So? I missed you." He repeated. My face turned bright red at his touch. "Unless you don't want to kiss." He added.
I cupped his face in response. The corners of Newt's mouth turned up as he slid one of his hands into my tangled hair, kissing again.
"Ahum." Someone coughed loudly. I looked up in shock, a bit embarrassed. Thomas was standing next to our bed, arms crossed over each other. Newt in that way did not let go of me, and in fact, started kissing my neck.
My face turned bright red. "Uh, hi Thomas." I stammered. I could feel Newt grin on my neck.
Holy shit. I think Minho did something to his personality. He was never like this before. Always careful and gentle, but now.. damn. It's amazing.
"Can we help you, Thomas?" Newt asked, face still in my neck.
"No, sorry for interrupting your little party," Thomas said, clearly sarcastic.
