CHAPTER 2
Just below the text a fingerprint scanner appeared. Gunner gritted his teeth knowing it needed a high rank officer or an elder to open. He looked around for someone powerful enough to open the door. Just beside him, a male Zetrian floated towards him, his black coat giving away his position in the ship.
He was a high rank. Gunner gripped his arm cringing at how cold he was. He grabbed his hand and pressed his thumb to the scanner. A blue beam scanned it before a light about the screen turned green and there was a sharp whiff sound. Gunner let the dead body float away and waited for the metal plates to slide apart and let him in.
He was pushed in by the water behind the door, but he wished that didn't happen. There was blood everywhere, the windshield was broken into pieces, some embedded into Zetrians, the captain was held on his seat with a bigger piece of glass cut through his chest to the seat, his purple eyes wide and lifeless; his body as white as Gunner's hair.
The boy gagged as bile rose into his throat. He kept looking around for his Gran, trying his best not to throw up. Then, he saw her. There she was, lying in a pool of Zetrian blood, her white eyes terrified, her body unmoving.
She was dead.
Gunner let out a sob and trembled, his shoulders shaking. Swimming towards her he felt bile rise to his throat at the sight in front of him. She too had a glass embedded right in her chest where her heart was ought to be.
Gunner held her body from floating away and dared to pull the glass out her chest, hoping the water would heal her and bring her back. Nothing happened, her skin didn't regenerate and close-up the wound.
She was already gone. He sobbed, his lungs aching as he ran out of air. His attention suddenly went to her hand held in a fist just below her chin. He frowned and straightened her fingers, curious to know what she held. A silvery object sunk away but Gunner was quick to catch it before it got away.
His breath hitched in his throat and held it tighter before putting it into the pocket of his white pants. He kissed Gran's forehead then let her go hesitantly before he forced himself to turn and swim away, his lungs burning and his throat thumping painfully. He kicked his feet hard, his vision suddenly blurry.
He managed to swim out the crashed ship but he still had to get to the surface and the bowl-shaped object looked so far away from him. His breathe hitched again and he let out a choked sound, black dots appearing in his vision biting his lips, he reached just below the bowl when two hands reached towards him and pulled him up.
Gunner didn't bother looking to see who it was and managed to get to the boat. He hanged on the side of it, taking in huge short gasps of air, calming his lungs and the throbbing of his throat. He looked at Ryker's stunned face and shot him a reassuring smile.
Beside him, the being that helped them into the object the first time was leaning on the bowl beside Gunner, his breathing hard and fast. Gunner assumed he was male, because his chest was bare and he had all the manly features. He'd been the one that helped Gunner reach the bowl.
He had gone in after him, but why? Why would he risk his own life for Gunner's? He wondered.
Both of them then climbed back into the bowl and the male went back to steering with the wooden objects in both of his hands, eyeing the two wearily. He tilted his head to the side and point to the helmet the little one had, then pointed at the older kid's head.
Gunner pursed his lips then frowned and looked at Ryker who was glaring at the male in front of them. He still had the helmet on. Gunner reached for it and dismantled it together with the little white jacket Ryker had on and dropped them in the water so their survival won't be noticed.
The brothers were now in grey shirts and white pants. Gunner's golden eyes met the male's blue ones and he nodded.
"Do you speak English?" The male asked.
Gunner blinked blankly at him as Ryker cooed in his own babyish language.
"How old are you? What's your name? Where do you come from? Are you harmful?" The man continued, terribly curious.
Gunner looked away back behind him hearing a loud engine roar. A small grey ship with blades at the top hovered over the spot where their own ship had sunk. Long, black lines shot out from below it and tiny figures swooped down and disappeared into the water. Gunner frowned.
"That's the government. They're going to try and retrieve what they can that survived as well as take a body to examine it. If I hadn't got to you two first they would have found you stranded in the middle of the ocean and locked you up in a lab." The male said, running his hand through his brown hair.
Gunner only frowned at him, looking as lost as ever.
What was this gibberish he was speaking? He wondered, slightly tilting his head and watching the male with profound interest while Ryker bounced up and down his lap.
The male sighed and met his gaze, frowning as he stared into Gunner's eyes, mesmerized by the beautiful golden eyes staring back at him. Gunner looked away first, at Ryker who was still watching the being in front of them.
He frowned and looked back at the being, now curious. Suddenly, the bowl came to a stop with a soft thud then the male got off it, tying the thing to a pole before he stepped off and stretched his arm towards Gunner.
He looked at the male's hand then at Ryker who was his first priority and picked him up, holding him tightly with his left hand and linking his right with the male's. Gunner had no choice but to trust him; he did pull him up from the water earlier and showed no signs of wanting to hurt him or his brother.
What else could he do? He knew nothing about this place.
