Later that night, the two of them were driving along an empty road, the hum of the engine the only sound between them.

It felt as though the world had faded into the background, leaving just the two of them together, moving forward, away from the tension that had built up between them over the years.

The moon hung low in the sky, casting a soft glow over the car, illuminating their faces in a silvery light.

Shubman drove with a quiet focus, his fingers gripping the steering wheel, his gaze ahead on the empty road, but his mind clearly elsewhere.

Beside him, Navya rested her legs on his lap, her head leaning back against the headrest, eyes closed as she let the wind flow through the cracked window.

The silence between them was comfortable—no longer heavy with unresolved emotions, but light, filled with the ease of old friends who had learned to forgive and move on.

He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, watching as she traced invisible patterns on the dashboard with her finger, her face calm, but her eyes filled with a depth he couldn't quite read.

"Everything okay?" he asked quietly, his voice almost lost in the hum of the engine.

Navya turned her head slightly to look at him, her gaze soft and searching. She gave him a small smile, one that was more reassuring than anything else.

"Yeah. Just thinking."

He nodded, keeping his eyes on the road but his mind drifting. "Thinking about what?" he asked, his voice full of curiosity but without pushing.

She shrugged, the slight movement of her shoulders drawing attention to how relaxed she seemed, how much at ease she was.

"Just about... everything. How long it's been. And how things have changed." She paused, her lips curving into a bittersweet smile.

"How much time we wasted, huh?"

Shubman's chest tightened at her words, but he didn't let it show. He squeezed her legs gently with one hand, his thumb brushing against her skin in a slow, comforting motion.

"We were both scared, Navya. Scared of messing things up. But now..." He trailed off, swallowing the lump that had suddenly formed in his throat.

He had so many things to say, so many apologies to give, but he didn't know where to start.

She didn't speak immediately, letting the quiet settle between them.

After a few moments, she turned her head fully toward him, catching his gaze.

There was a soft, understanding look in her eyes, and for the first time in years, she didn't look at him like she used to.

There was no longing, no sorrow—just a quiet peace.

"Shubman," she said softly, her voice tender.

"I'm not mad at you anymore. I never was. We both made mistakes, but that doesn't mean we can't move forward, right?"

He let out a long, shaky breath, the weight of her words lifting a part of him he didn't even know he was carrying. His grip tightened slightly on her legs, and his voice cracked when he spoke again.

"I'm sorry. For everything, Navya. I should have come back. I should have called, should have... should have been there when you needed me."

She smiled a small but genuine smile. "You don't have to apologize anymore. It's in the past. And anyway, I think we both needed to learn how to let go, how to move on from that, even if it took us years."

Shubman nodded, the quiet hum of the car filling the spaces between their words.

"I've missed you. I never stopped missing you. And I don't want to waste any more time."

Navya looked at him, her heart stirring at the raw sincerity in his voice. She reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, her fingers brushing her temple lightly.

"We'll be alright, Shubman. We're here now, and that's all that matters."

He glanced at her again, his expression softer, more vulnerable than she had ever seen it.

The man who had been so guarded, so focused on his career, now seemed just like the boy he used to be—open, unafraid to show his feelings.

They continued driving in silence, the night stretching on as they let the quiet moments speak for them.

Navya closed her eyes again, resting her head against the window as the soft hum of the car and the cool breeze swirled around them.

For the first time in years, it felt like they were exactly where they needed to be—together, no longer haunted by the past, but looking toward the future.

Shubman's grip on her legs tightened just a little, and she felt the warmth of his hand seep through her skin.

She let out a soft sigh, a contented, peaceful sound, as she leaned back, her mind clearing, her heart finally finding a rhythm that matched his.

No more regrets. No more waiting.

Just the two of them, driving forward. Together.
