IF GIVEN A SINGLE PENNY FOR EVERY TIME SHE CHEATED DEATH, Kaia Hollenbeck would have two cents; while insignificant when compared to the family fortune, it was crazy that it happened more than once.

Kaia should have known better, been smart enough to see the dangers lurking under cover of the night, but that's the thing about sadness... it numbs and it blinds. One mistake, seeking escapism where it did not exist, almost sent her to that grave.

Yet through it all, she lived.

With two months come and gone in the finest treatment center Charleston had to offer, it was finally time for Kaia to return home. To her family, to her friends, to paradise on earth. She aches for a sense of normalcy and the serenity of ocean song, but the Outer Banks would not grant her that; the wish alone would prove to be no more than a breaking castle in the air.

Following in the footsteps of many adventurers before them, Kaia and her friends set out on the path of riches in search of the Royal Merchant: a mighty ship long lost at sea, a vessel that once sheltered four hundred million dollars in gold. Treasure hunting had been every child's fantasy at one point or another, but the reality wasn't all fun and games like she expected. They would learn the hard way: many seek the Royal Merchant's treasures and secrets for themselves, enough so that they're willing to kill to win.

This will be a doozy.
