𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐒𝐀𝐓 tests and aurora was nervous. i mean, she had only been back for a few weeks and she was already taking a test was extremely important. max had asked if she wanted him to go to the principal and ask if she could take them at a later date, but aurora didn't want to and just wanted to get it over with it. she'll just have to be more prepared for the sat. so here she was, standing in line with allison, scott, stiles, malia, and kira. the hastings girl was quietly drumming on the lockers as her anxiety got the best of her. allison noticed this, feeling a frown pull at her lips but she didn't know how to comfort the hybrid. stiles noticed this too, turning to look at her.
"remember to keep calm, rori." he started, making her turn to look at him. "i know you're nervous, but they're the practice scholastic aptitude test. it's just to see where you are."
"yeah, you need to keep calm or. . . you know what is gonna happen." scott added on, lowering his voice so that the people around them wouldn't hear.
"yeah. yeah, i know. i'm trying." aurora mumbled, quickly stuffing her hands into her pockets to keep them from twitching.
"where's lydia?" kira then questioned, looking around the hall for the strawberry blonde.
"she took it her freshman year." stiles answered, making aurora smile.
"does that mean i could have taken it some other time?" malia asked the stilinksi boy.
"malia, you studied harder for this than any of us." scott reminded.
"doesn't mean i'm gonna do good." malia reasoned.
"well." stiles corrected
"well, what?" malia asked.
"it's do well, not good." stiles elaborated.
"god!" malia exclaimed.
"okay, okay." stiles nodded.
"you're doing this because wile we're trying not to die, we still need to live." scott told her. "if i survive high school, i'd like to go to college. a good college."
"it's only three hours. we can survive three hours." kira chimed in, making the group look at her.
"a lot can happen in three hours." aurora pointed out, her hands twitching in her pockets as she looked down at the floor.
"it should go by really fast. i mean, if we stay focused and work hard, we shouldn't even notice how long we've been in the classroom for." allison told everyone, trying to calm aurora's nerves down.
"i hope." the hybrid wolf mumbled.
with that, the classroom door opened, allowing the kids to go inside. they placed their thumbprints onto their scantrons before they grabbed their pencils and booklets from the teacher that was chaperoning that classroom. when aurora grabbed her booklet from him, she looked at him, seeing that he was already smiling back. he was a man in his 30s, brown hair, blue eyes, and he had a mole on his chin. immediately, aurora felt her stomach churn and goosebumps scatter her skin, slowly taking the booklet from him. she gulped down whatever nerves had appeared as she walked to lydia's mom, natalie. she dropped her phone into a small orange envelope before she went to a seat, sparing another glance at the man.
"you okay, rori?" scott whispered, seeing the uneasy look on aurora's face.
"yeah." she breathed out, nodding her head.
"please do not open the test booklet until you are instructed to do so." the man started, making aurora look back at him. stiles had quickly closed his test booklet since he had opened it. "this test is two hours and ten minutes. there will be two twenty-five minute critical reading sections, two twenty-five minute math sections, and an essay writing portion that will last 30 minutes. there are supposed to be two teachers monitoring this exam." he finished, looking over to natalie.
"i know. it's coach. he's not exactly punctual. um, let me just try him again." natalie said, quickly pulling out her phone as she walked out the classroom.
everyone waited patiently for natalie to come back, aurora's eyes never leaving the man at the front of the classroom. her leg had been bouncing underneath her desk, feeling her stomach churning even more. she leaned forward in her desk, going to tap scott on his shoulder. when she did it, the mccall boy immediately turned around, his eyebrows raised as he looked at the girl in slight worry. he could smell the anxiety come from off her and it had somehow gotten worse with in the last five minutes.
"my - my wolfy sense. . . it's, um, it's tingling. or activated." she admitted in a hushed tone, making scott deflate. "apparently, we can even take a test anymore without something happened." she finished, her voice deepening, almost growl like.
scott quickly turned around fully in his seat, sparing a glance to were stiles and allison were sitting. "hey, rori. calm down, okay? you need to breathe and calm down." he whispered, taking her hands into his. "have you found a new anchor yet?" he asked, making aurora shaking her head as she looked down, her eyes glowing pink. "o - okay. listen to my heart. can you do that for me. listen to my heart."
aurora did as told, closing her eyes as she focused on scott's heart beat. she heard how steady it was, almost immediately feeling her start to beat along with his. her eyes changed back to their chocolate brown color as she calmed down, her grip on scott's hands loosening. scott looked over to where stiles and allison were once again, seeing that the both of them had been watching the whole thing. scott sent them a nod, saying he had handled it, making the both of them nod back.
"you okay?" scott asked, looking back to face the werewolf in front of him.
"yeah, i'm good." she nodded, sending him a thankful smile. "thanks, scotty."
"of course. now let's hope that whatever your wolfy sense is warning us about. . . comes after the test." scott smiled, squeezing aurora's hands before he turned back around ind his seat. just in time too because natalie had just entered the classroom again.
"i can't find him, but mr.yukimura is upstairs grading papers. do you want me to try him?" she suggested to the man at the front of the room.
"we have to start. we can ask for his assistance during the first break." he told the martin woman, making her nod. he then started the time on his stop watch. "you may now open your test booklets and begin."
that immediately made the students pick up their pencils and open their booklets. aurora sucked in a deep breath to steady her nerves before she even read the first question, having a tight grip on her pencil. she could feel someone's eyes shooting holes into the side of her head, making her discreetly turn to see who it was. her heart leaped into her throat when she had seen that it was allison, the argent girl quickly looking back down at her test as her cheeks heated up. aurora looked back down at her test as well, not needing any distractions to make a spike in her emotions. and then suddenly, a girl passed out, making a thud echo through the classroom.
"sydney!" natalie exclaimed, immediately going over to the girl.
aurora furrowed her eyebrows, "who the hell. . ."
natalie helped the girl sit up, worry dripping from her tone as she asked, "are you alright?"
"i'm okay. i just got kind of dizzy." sydney answered as natalie helped her stand up completely.
"sydney, how long have you had this?" natalie questioned, looking down at the girl's wrist.
"i don't know." sydney replied, shaking her head slightly.
"ms.martin, do i need to stop the test?" the man asked.
"no, um, it's fine." natalie quickly responded, guiding sydney back into her seat. she then walked to the front of the classroom, turning to face the class, grabbing her phone. "everybody stay in your seats. i'll, um, be back in a minute. nobody leaves the room."
aurora felt her stomach churn even more at the words, slowly turning to look over at sydney. the girl was looking down at her wrist, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. the hastings girl then turned to face scott, seeing that he was already looking back.
"is your wolfy sense still. . ." he started to ask, his voice barely above a whisper. nobody else would be able to hear him, but aurora was able to because of her enhanced abilities.
"it just got worse." she responded, her voice just as quiet as she looked down at her test.
everybody in the room went back to their tests, trying their hardest to focus. aurora on the other hand, she wasn't able to focus on her test. her leg had still been bouncing, but she had been using her enhanced hearing to keep track of natalie martin. she started to quietly tap her pencil on the desk, her bottom lip slipping between her teeth.
"get back! no! do not come in here! get back outside!" aurora suddenly heard natalie yell from in the hall, making her shoot up immediately. everyone else had heard natalie yell as well, all of them following aurora out in the hall to see natalie standing at the entrance at the end of the hall. "back to your seats. now. please."
everyone did as told, slowly filing back inside the classroom. aurora, scott, and stiles all shared a look with one another before they looked back at natalie. aurora and stiles went back in the classroom, scott following them as he closed the door behind him. aurora went back to her seat, picking up her pencil as she looked over at the door. she was still listening to natalie.
"i need the number of the cdc. yes, the center for disease control." natalie said into her phone.
aurora immediately looked over to where scott was still standing, worry and panic filling her bones immediately. scott looked back at her, hearing what the same thing that the hybrid had heard. what the fuck is happening?

𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐘 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑, 𝐌𝐄𝐍 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 hazmats suits appeared in the school. they set up a quarantine zone inside the school. the sheriff's department was outside and all of the students were now out of the classrooms, having watched all of them set up. now a lot of the students were being pulled into the quarantine zone, checking to see if any of them had the same rash as sydney did. the ones who did have the rash was stuck inside personal buddies while everyone else had been sent back to their classrooms.
"bet they're thinking smallpox." stiles whispered to malia, kira, and allison. aurora had been pacing a small area of the classroom as she listened to her friends. she was suddenly not feeling well, but she kept her mouth shut.
"not likely." the man who had been chaperoning the test had chimed in. aurora had learned that his name was simon. she had never seen him before, but she did know that her wolfy sense immediately activated when she looked at him. "smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1979. we've only managed to complete eradicate two viruses in history. the other was rinderpest. it killed cows."
"so we should be comforted by that, right?" stiles asked.
"unless it's something worse." simon mumbled, only making aurora's feelings worse. the hastings girl's jaw clench as she continued to pace.
"whatever it is, they're taking it pretty seriously. there's a lot of cars and trucks out there. your dad's with them." malia informed.
"hey, i should probably call him." stiles muttered, slipping off the desk he was sitting on to go over to where the ben that was holding the phones were.
"don't bother. they would have shut off any access to all outside communication by now. no cell service, no wifi. no one starting to panic. looks like we're all just gonna have to wait here and see what happens." simon stopped him, making aurora's heart drop. how the hell was max supposed to get to her?
"how the hell do you know all of this?" she suddenly questioned, making stiles' head snap towards her. her breath was starting to quicken, stiles noticing this. "i - i mean. . . all of this is just at the top of your head? d - does anyone even know who he is? he's not a teacher at this school, i know that for sure."
"rori." malia called, hearing aurora's heart rate starting to pick up.
"that's not weird to anyone else? is it only weird to me?" the hybrid quizzed, her shoulders rising and falling quickly.
"rora." allison chimed in, jumping up from her spot. "breathe, okay? calm down."
"i - i can't. i can't." aurora mumbled, her voice mixing with a growl as she started to claw at her shirt. stiles and allison were the first ones to aurora, guiding the girl out into the hall and down to the locker room. stiles had noticed how hot she was, making him look over to allison. she went over into the corner, bringing her hand up to her hair.
"okay, um. okay!" stiles mumbled, running his fingers through his hair. he then looked to where aurora was standing, seeing that her she had shifted. "y - you're anchor! you're anchor! you - you don't have an anchor. oh, my god! you don't have an anchor!"
"stiles, you're not helping!" aurora growled.
"right! sorry! sorry!" stiles quickly apologized, stepping back to give the girl some space.
"rora, what do you want me to do? do you want me to get scott? what do you need me to do. rora?" allison quizzed, her voice being soft as she held her hands out in front of you. she had seen aurora shift before and she didn't want that to happen again. especially with a school full of innocent bystanders.
"scott! get - get scott!" aurora growled, fighting the urge to shift completely. she didn't want to hurt people who didn't deserve it. she didn't want to hurt the people she loved.
"i'm right here." scott's voice appeared, making stiles and allison turn around. they saw that he was shifted too, sweat dripping from his forehead as he leaned against the wall. "i just told mr.yukimura to get you guys."
"it's happening to you too." aurora mumbled, slowly sliding down the wall.
a few minutes later, mr.yukimura was back in the locker room with kira and malia. turns out that malia's claw had extended by themselves and she couldn't control them. kira's electric abilities were acting up as well. now, they were all trying to get a hold of their abilities, scott's sharp canines disappearing, but his red eyes kept flashing. aurora was still fully shifted, sweat dripping from her forehead as she looked at the floor.
"it's still happening." mr.yukimura informed scott.
"i can't make them go back." malia admitted, holding up her hands to reveal her claws.
"i can't even shift back." aurora mumbled, stiles holding her up with a worried look on her face.
"obviously the virus is affecting the three in a way it won't hit any human being." mr.yukimura concluded, making allison look at aurora with worry.
"you guys have to stay out of sight. we have to quarantine you from the quarantine." stiles told the three supernatural creatures.
"yeah, but where? i mean, what if they get violent? like on the full moon." kira quizzed.
"we shouldn't stay in here. not in the locker room." scott said.
"a classroom is not going to hold us." malia pointed out.
"what about the basement?" allison suggested.
"too many ways out." aurora mumbled, placing her head onto stiles' shoulder.
"we need something secure. somewhere nobody can find us." scott said.
"the vault. the hale vault." stiles jumped in, making his two best friends look at him.
"the hales always have an escape route. like their house. there has to be another way in." scott concluded. that then led to them going into coach finstock's office, looking at blueprints that were coincidentally inside said office. aurora was sat down in one of the chairs, her head hanging off the back of the chair.
"this is where the school is, so the vault's got to be right about here." stiles informed, pointing on the blueprint so everyone can see.
"i suppose id there's a second entrance, it would probably be accessible from the basement." mr.yukimura pointed out.
"it's probably somewhere in this hallway. or this corridor." stiles suggested before he lost his balance. "whoa." he mumbled when he steadied himself. he then lifted his sleeve, seeing that he had the same rash that sydney did.
"it's happening to you too. you're getting sick. you all are." mr.yukimura confirmed, looking over around at everyone before his eyes finally landed on his daughter.
"i don't feel sick." kira admitted, shrugging her shoulders.
"i think it's affecting you differently, neurologically." mr.yukimura told her as he pulled a paper out. "i found your test answer here in a pile with the others." it was her scantron and instead of having her answers darkened in the circles, they were outside of them.
"ally?" aurora mumbled, making the girl in question turn to look at her. "are you okay? are you sick? i don't want you to be sick."
the argent girl crouched down next to aurora's chair, noticing how the hair on her face had vanished but her canines were still out and her eyes were still pink. a small smile pulled at her lips, feeling her heart flip at aurora being worried about her. "we'll see, rora. i don't feel anything but. . . we'll see, okay?"
"okay." aurora mumbled, a small frown on her face.

i hate this fucking chapter but i needed to update. the fact that it's been almost five months since i touched this book is mind blowing to me. i missed writing for aurora and allison, even though they're not together atm. i promise i'm gonna try to update more and that they will be better than this one because i legit just pulled this chapter out of my ass.
