𝐁𝐎𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑:
The Pandemic
"HAVE YOU SEEN THIS TOKITITOK?" Emmett walks towards the living room where Genevieve, Rosalie, and Renesmee are sitting on the sofa, enjoying the show streaming on the television.
They were watching How to get away from Murder. It's not like they need to know how to get away from murder—because they got away with it multiple times, and it was quite easy, but it was entertaining how to deal with it in a fictionally legal way.
"It's TikTok, Uncle Em," Renesmee softly giggled as she continued to knit. Genevieve liked this new hobby of hers. Renesmee has just knitted her an adorable pink polka dot crop top cardigan.
"Yeah! That one. Humans are getting real intelligent with their apps," Emmett replied with an enthusiastic nod as he faced his phone towards the women, hand pointing to the screen.
The phone looked a bit small in his large hands, but he cared and handled it gently, given that he already accidentally crushed ten different phones for the last two months.
"Not if you have lived as long as I have. You'll get used to their stupidity." Genevieve snickers.
"I second that. You know, this man I saw was taking a video of a woman that needed help. Why take a video? when you can help, jesus." Rosalie scoffs while rolling her eyes.
"They take videos of everything nowadays."
"And they call those dance videos tiktok dancing. It's like their arms are break—" Rosalie stops mid-sentence when she sees her husband recording himself and dancing in front of his phone, his arms are all over the place, and he was a bit stiff because of his large muscles, but he was really focused—the squinted eyes focused.
"Never mind," Rosalie clears her throat and sighs heavily as she purses her lips. Genevieve laughed.
They all need a source of entertainment since the humans caused a pandemic, and they are unfortunately required to comply with the lockdown even though they're already dead and won't get any of the symptoms of the virus.
Goodness, does it bring back memories.
Carlisle has been staying in the hospital 24/7, and all of the medical workers around the globe are overworked, underpaid, and losing their lives in a slow crippling process. Not only that, a lot of humans have lost their jobs, lost a loved one, and gained mental health problems because of staying at home. What bothered Genevieve, even more was the rising percentage of domestic abuse.
It's terrible.
Genevieve has witnessed and lived through a lot of pandemics throughout the centuries, but this pandemic was one of the worsts.
Edward was having flashbacks of dying from influenza epidemic back in 1919 surely can do that. The couple are hunting at the moment.
Alice and Greyson are fortunately in New Zealand because of their honeymoon, which was already five months ago. Still, they said that New Zealand has a good strategy for keeping the virus out of the country, but they couldn't leave because of that, so they extended their trip and will continue to extend their trip if needed.
When there was an announcement of the virus, they made a quick decision to go back to Forks, seeing that it was isolated, they had a lot of backyard space because of the dense forest, and they won't have a problem with their supply of blood—Genevieve opted to switch diets for the meantime, and they won't be seeing anyone that will familiarize them—Carlisle is working at Seattle Hospital, not the local hospital in Forks. So they are safe and secluded.
It was good to be back. The family does not know how long they'll be staying in Forks, but as soon as the virus has stopped spreading. When they have the go signal from Carlisle that humans are allowed to go outside, they'll be packing their bags and moving to the next location that Alice had set up already.
And on a wonderful note, Jacob Black and Renesmee Cullen, in all good given graces, have remained friends—after Genevieve threatened to murder Jacob Black and threw his body in the river with a heavy weight so that his body would sink and never be found even if his pack sniffed him out, she really think it worked.
"Darling," Jasper says with his southern drawl, sitting beside Genevieve and placing a kiss on her cheek.
Being in love is lovely. Genevieve had never felt so loved before, and it felt surreal. Being with Jasper is like Genevieve rediscovering herself all over again. She's been independent all her life, and she's now witnessing things about herself she thought she would never do.
For one, she loved being pampered. Jasper treated her like she was the only shining star in his universe. She basked in his attention, and she couldn't imagine eternal life without him. He's the absolute best of the best.
"Hi, love." Genevieve greeted with a soft smile, intertwining their hands together as she leaned into his shoulder with Jasper wrapping an arm around her waist as his thumb softly brushed her exposed skin.
Jasper opens his phone, and Genevieve takes a small peek and playfully rolls her eyes, and continues watching the show. Jasper has been scrolling on Twitter since the lockdown began.
His profile has no icon, header, bio, or tweets, but his timeline is full of philosophical quotes, and Twitter became his morning paper because that is where he keeps up with the latest news of what is happening around the globe.
Genevieve was quite glad that she also had a source of entertainment since the pandemic began. She and Rosalie shared their love of watching shows, especially when they both watched The Vampire Diaries together, and when it ended in 2017, they both cried.
Then the spin-off The Originals ended in 2018. They were both practically inconsolable, mainly because the two hot brothers died together.
They didn't want to start Legacies and tried to leave it off as it was.
Esme didn't have much trouble adjusting to being on lockdown like the rest of the family, who traveled a lot. She's a true homebody and keeps herself busy. The lockdown gave her a lot of time restoring the whole house and adding separate cabins in their space in the forest, the Cullen Residence is just the main living quarters, but they now have separate cabins for every couple's privacy.
She worried for Carlisle, they don't get tired, but with the number of days he's been spending at the hospital and experiencing firsthand the situation of what's happening inside the hospital and being the front defense from the virus, she worries that he might not be sustaining himself enough with animal blood.
The family made sure to donate to the hospital in dire need of supplies and helped families that needed financial aid to pay medical bills.
It's truly a tough time that Genevieve knows will surpass.
And they'll be on lockdown for one more year and seven months.
But hey, at least the shape-shifters aren't hunting them down anymore.
