𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁

"MY ABSENCE MADE YOU BUILD A AIRPLANE?" you shouted confused over the noise of the wind, your hand grabbing onto the top of the vehicle as you looked forward to try and catch a glimpse of something.

"i had to occupy my time" explained the fox as he drove the plane "and stalking you and your boyfriend on the radar wasn't enough"

you shoot your head around "first of all, that's an amazing way to occupy your time" you complimented.

"thank you" he adjusted his goggle.

"secondly" you pointed at your yellow friend "he's not my boyfriend" you reminded him.

"yet!" he added, a knowing smile growing on his face.

"and don't pick up his sass!" you scolded him as you turned your focus back on the sea in front of you.

"it's your attitude that i'm picking up" he muttered under his breath.

"there!" you shouted as you pointed forward to a little island, you could clearly see two colorful dots and you fingers pointed them to your aviator.

tails pushed his foot on the accelerator and you reached the two aliens in a heartbeat, you could see them sitting silently on the beach and it made your eyes widen.

"i can't believe sonic was able to soften up the guy" spoke out loud the yellow fox, your eyes trained on the two figures that had now grown bigger as a smile overcame your features.

you noticed the blue hedgehog turning around as you came closer, he tilted his head up to look in the distance.

"only sonic the hedgehog needs rescuing this much." screamed tails, loud enough for the other two aliens too hear.

you watched the blue hedgehog laugh out loud at the sound of the fox's voice, he punched the air as he jumped back up on his feet.

as you grew closer he turned around to spoke to the red dot, which was a sad echidna sitting depressed on the sand.

"come on, knucklehead. we're not beat yet." said sonic as he laid his hands on his hips, looking down at the red alien.

instead knuckle didn't move, his eyes trained forward to the endless sea "on the mountain, you told me you'd lost everything. the way i did. that you had left her, the same way she left me. but... you all seem so hopeful and free."

the echidna finally tilted his head, purple eyes meeting green "how did you move forward despite failing again? and again. and again. and again. and again—"

sonic started to grew annoyed (and a little offended) at the words, he stopped the warrior from saying anything else "okay, we didn't fail that much... but we didn't do this all alone."

knuckle breathed out your name, the hedgehog slightly raised his eyebrows "she's an honorable fighter" commented the red alien as he went back to look down at his feet.

the other hummed, nodding, not quite sure how to answer to that "i- we found a new family. new friends. new love. and you can too." he pushed his hand out, lowering it towards knuckles "you don't have to be alone anymore." he finished.

the echidna stared at the blue alien and eventually gripped his hand back, a pained noise left the hedgehog mouth as he destroyed his hand "are you kidding me with that handshake?!"

before they could realize it something jumped at knuckles, pushing him away from the other teenager and making him let go of the white gloved hand.

"[name]!" tails called as he run forward, he was stopped by sonic's arm which forced him to stay at his side.

both you and the echidna rose back to your feet, you growled at him and you resembled a feral animal as you waited for one wrong move to attack.

sonic called your name again, softly.

his voice had always had an effect on you, his tone, his words, the way your name fell from his lips, he knew what to say and do to make you calm down.

he knew what to do to keep you there with him, to keep your mind in the real world.

as you kept your gaze on the purple eyes you shook your whole body, cleaning yourself from the sand.

"he's with us now" spoke the hedgehog as he and the fox stepped forward "no one wants to hurt us here" he added, voice sweet as sugar.

knuckles observed with curiosity as your tense shoulders fell down, your grinding teeth relaxed and you closed fist opened back up.

"sure?" you asked over your shoulder.

"hundred percent" he replayed.

you and the echidna warrior kept your gaze locked, there was something begging you to stare into his soul and find all that was missing from the puzzle that was your past.

but that something wasn't enough to make you forget about the man wanting to take over the world, nor the danger that the little fox had just encountered.

you pushed your hand forward and you waited.

his eyes widened as he understood the gesture, new questions growing in his mind.

"knuckles" you called.

he copied your movements and he gripped your hand back, sonic grimaced at the thought of his own hand and he held his wrist as he looked forward at the scene.

him and the fox were surprised to see you unaffected by the strength of the warrior, the handshake looked painful but neither of you two were showing it on your faces.

you nodded in respect to the the echidna and he did it back, a pact was reached.

"really cool but" the two other aliens stepped at your side as sonic spoke "we should probably get a move on"

one hand on your hip, you turned around to stare at him, smirk playing at your lips "afraid to be late babe?"

sonic felt his heart skip more then one beat.

babe.

you two had just started with the nicknames, and of course he was the one using them but he hadn't even been too sure about you liking them.

and now there you were, in front of a kid and a deadly warrior, using the tone that he liked the most — your everyday voice, nothing different — while you finally called him babe.

internally he was screaming, shouting.

internally he was dying.

babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, babe...

it repeated in his head like a mantra.

a fake cough coming from the yellow fox brought him back to the beach, the answer to your question rolling easily out of his tongue "me? never. i'm the fastest creature in the galaxy and beyond, or did you forget that?"

you started to step back towards the plane as you mocked him "me? never."

tails and knuckle followed behind, one with a big smile and the other with furrowed eyebrows but both wanting to know more about the duo that were you and sonic.

two forces to be reckoned with.
