"ITS YOUR FAULT!" he screamed back at you.
his hard glare and tears made you stumble back a couple of step, your hands moving in front of you to try and protect yourself from his words.
the darkness wasn't something that you would have associate with the yellow fox, but over the last weeks on earth it seemed like they were the same thing.
nightmares had been common your whole life, and with tails too.
but usually they were about you failing to protect him or something along those lines.
now all your dreams were about him blaming you for whatever was happening to him — which you didn't even know what it was since you had left him all alone, in the hands of those monsters, as you escaped on this paradise called earth.
you were even worst then them.
you remembered maddie's talks about how dreams are your subconscious sending you mixed signals, and the more you dreamed of tails the more you agreed with this ideal.
especially when you knew you blamed yourself for whatever had happened — and was probably still happening — to him.
maybe that's why he walked out of the darkness, a crazy look in his eyes that made you back even more, especially when you saw the blood in his hands.
you called his name, as softly as you could, trying to make him remember.
until an hand gripped his shoulder, the same hand that had gripped yours for almost ten years, the same hand that had given you your scars.
that made you fight back.
you wouldn't have done anything against your yellow friend but if she was there than you would have destroyed her in thousands of little pieces.
"c'mon tails, attack" her face was hidden by the dark but her voice was always the same, making goosebumps roll down your spine.
you shook your head as you realized "no, not him" you begged as you tried to slowly approach.
he snarled at you, his teeth showing and you fell to the ground, looking up at the two.
"please" you tried "take me back, leave him out of this" you had to save him, you would have done anything to do so.
she laughed.
it echoed around and it made you feel even smaller, useless, powerless.
"why choose when i can have both..." she giggled, her fingers caressed his shoulder as she moved to the other side.
she kept herself in the dark as she finished her phrase "-and more" a pair of green eyes opened and the air got caught in your throat.
she tsked at your scared expression, tears starting to stream down your face as you begged her to take you back, as you swore to be the perfect soldier for her.
"i have his mind..." her claw pointed at the center of the fox's forehead, his eyes lifeless as they looked down at you.
"-and his speed" her hand gripped the hedgehog's chin, both of them continuingly growling at you.
"what would i ever need from you?" she spitted the question out, almost disgusted with the thought.
you tried to regain yourself for a moment "i'm the best, i can be even better" you breathed in deeply.
"that's the problem, best, you have become to attached with your morality" she replied, and you were ready to deny it, shaking your head.
"i don't need it, take it. take me!" you screamed at her and her smirk appeared in the black dust that was all around you "very well, if that's what you want"
the light — the only thing that made it possible for you to see something — flickered a couple of times and one after the other the two aliens vanished.
you were left alone, in the darkness, in the silence, your fingers grasped at the floor as tears slipped out of your eyes.
the drop slowly fell from your cheek, and when it reached the ground it turned red.
it was blood.
your eyes widened, you went to touch it with your hand but it was covered in blood too, your arms were.
your whole body was.
and as your breath became erratic and her laughs echoed around, the lights started to flicker again, bodies appearing and disappearing all around you.
their bodies too.
suddenly you set up with a deep breath, the air was missing in your lungs.
you were back in your bed, in sonic's bed to be exact.
when the nightmares had started you had found out that it was easier for you to sleep if you were near him, in his arms.
and he, being the best hero and the best boy friend ever — his words not yours — had accepted immediately.
what you didn't thought about was his little escapades in the night, were he went out to be the hero that he thought he was destined to be.
and where he left you alone in his room.
usually he was fast enough that you wouldn't even notice he was gone — that's what he thought since you could actually always feel when someone moved around the room, even in your sleep.
but some times, like this one, you would wake up and he would be out, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
you found yourself grasping the sheets, to make sure it was real and that you weren't still in a dream.
you took some deep and slow breaths to calm your racing heart before you looked around.
the light came into the room from the little round window, it was probably time to get up but you needed some more time to realize where you were.
you took one last breath before you laid down on your side, looking down at the floor as you waited for his return.
thankfully you didn't had to wait for long, he jumped down from the window — and that alone would have waken you up.
you heard him slowly walk to your spot, the wood cracking under his feet.
he muttered some things that you didn't care about and you ignored him as he opened and closed the drawer behind you.
he grabbed the covers and he got inside, trying to not occupy your space and find a comfortable position.
he felt you move around and he grimaced, worried that he had been the one to wake you up.
you turned on the other side and you looked into his eyes, finally — you thought.
there were the emeralds that you had missed, the soft ones that looked at you like you hang the stars.
"good morning" he muttered shyly.
you shushed him as your hand moved to his quills, feeling them under your fingertips, your hand patted his head and then it traced the shape of his cheeks, of his nose.
he knew this pattern all too well.
"you had another one" it was a statement not a question, he closed his eyes and he brought two fingers to pinch between his eyebrows.
you didn't answer him, instead focusing on your hands and the feeling of him under your fingers.
he looked at you again and turned on his side too, mirroring your position.
"i'm here now" he whispered "i'm sorry, i should have been faster" he tried, letting your hand feeling the heat radiating from his body.
he was there, he was alive, and he was fine.
"no" you answered when you were finally reconnected with reality "you shouldn't go out" you scolded him.
he rolled his eyes, huffing.
he was about to argue back but then he noticed how liquid your eyes looked, how your fingers trembled.
seeing you like this was becoming too common for him.
he intertwined his hand with yours "later" a soft smile on his face as he spoke "now i want to spend the morning with you-"
your eyebrows shoot up as realization hit you "sonic!" you called him, even if he was millimeters from your face "you are supposed to see tom!" you reminded him.
"nooo" he complained loudly, as he turned on his back, an hand over his eyes.
"yesss" you replied as you started to push him off the bed, he fell onto the floor and you snickered as he dusted himself.
"alright, alright i'm up! i'm up" he speeded around the room to grab his green hat and some other things before he returned near your side of the bed.
"see you later!" he pecked your cheek and he was off, leaving you to smile alone under the covers.
the darkness of your nightmares momentarily forgotten.
