"𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐘 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐑. I don't want anybody seeing you." told you tom as he pointed at the both of you with his two fingers.
he needed to talk with his friend and apparently you both needed to stay in the car.
"ugh, fine." replied sonic as you blowed air out of your mouth.
you were bored, really, really bored.
and the thought of waiting in a even more boring car, with nothing to do except listen to the blue hedgehog and your thoughts wasn't something that you were really waiting for.
sonic moved his focus on you, looking at your face.
you felt his gaze burn your cheek but you pretended to not see it, keeping on looking in front of you.
it was dark, people passed but they looked like shadows.
some stars could be seen and your mind immediately wondered to the sky on mobius.
how much you missed seeing that above your head.
you turned around, your lips parting a little at the view of his emerald eyes reflecting the light of the moon.
he smiled and you unconsciously copied his action.
his brain was going in thousands different direction as he looked at you, you were so beautiful.
even if you were clearly tired, even if your clothes were all wrinkled, even if he had noticed how you were trying to hide the bandage on your shoulder.
always had been and always will.
and sonic thought about what was happening to him.
the way the government was after him, following his every move.
and how after ten years you had magically reappeared, protecting him like a guardian angel.
he couldn't knew what was gonna happen but he knew that he wanted to tell you everything.
he took a little breath, your gaze still on him as you had been watching his brain work through his eyes.
he opened his mouth, wanting to say something.
and then a honk made the both of you jump in your seat.
you both moved to the other window, trying to see what was happening.
a group of motorcyclists were drinking and laughing as one of them did some trick with his motorcycle.
you and sonic looked at each other, the place almost calling your souls, it was amazing.
"okay, okay. that is the coolest place on earth, but we have to stay in the car!" you observed sonic as he turned around, keeping himself away from the glass, not wanting to give in.
you kept your on the people, the trick with the motorcycles making your eyes grow big.
sonic slowly peaked his head up again, watching everything that was playing out in front of him, he started to hyperventilate and he fogged up the window.
you put your hand into a fist, using the side to clean the glass in front of his face, letting him see again.
he tries to fight his excitement by rocking back on forth in the driver's seat, his hands on your shoulder making you move with him.
"be strong, be strong!" he murmured to himself, but you weren't really listening as your brain had stopped working as soon as it had registered the distance between the both of you.
you felt his chest agains your back, his hands gripping your shoulders, his breath on your neck.
you frenetically looked around, trying to find a quick escape from the uncomfortable (or maybe a little too comfortable) feeling.
your eyes stopped on a pair of sunglasses and you quickly caught them in your hand, swinging them in front of sonic's eyes.
he leaned his head on you shoulder and you looked at one another with a smirk.
you were going to do it.
***
you and sonic opened the door of the bar, you were both too little for anyone to even notice and even if they did they were either too drunk or too stupid too realise who, or what, was actually in front of them.
you took your time to observe the people all around you, their differences from the quite habitants of green hills.
you were too distracted to hear sonic calling your name, an hand on your back made you quickly turn your head around but you relaxed as you realised it was just your blue friend.
he mentioned to a table with a tilt of his head and you nodded, letting him take you there.
you seated and silence fell over as you both looked around you, amazed by everything.
you knew that it wasn't the best place on earth but there was something that was making it feel more comfortable then anything else.
maybe it was the fact that you and sonic weren't hiding, or running for your life; that you had finally got a moment to breath.
and because of that , or maybe because of the blue hedgehog in front of you, you forgot about the men waiting for you outside.
from the most friendly to the least.
and for the first time you didn't felt like your only purpose was to hurt anyone that tried to cross your path.
you felt just right, you felt like what you were, who you were, a kid.
you watched as sonic opened his mouth again, some worry in his expression, he was about to say something but he was stopped, again.
an hand on his shoulder, you moved your eyes upwards and you locked them with tom's.
"howdy, partner!" responded the hedgehog after he had turned around, his hat now in his hand.
"i'm not your partner, she is. come on. we're leaving." he said sounding almost angry as he mentioned for you to follow him with his hand.
"but there's a zz top cover band. you gotta see their beards." sonic pointed to a side of the room but you didn't bother looking as you found more interesting what was happening in front of you.
"you're gonna have to catch 'em some other time. let's go! get up!" as donut lord talked you realised that he was probably right, your fantasy of being something other than what you were trained to do was just that, a fantasy.
and you had to go back to the real world.
that's what you started to move around ready to get up before sonic talked back.
"if we stay, i promise i won't say another word for the rest of the trip, starting... now!" he begged the man.
a waitress walked near the three of you, a notepad in her hands as he was ready to take your orders.
"welcome to the piston pit. what can I get you fellas?" the hedgehog eyes lit up and tom caught the sides of your mouth turning up, he smiled softly at the image of you finally seeming at peace and he realised that you were just two little kids.
and kids shouldn't be fighting for their life.
he thought about your face when you were fighting those robots, he thought about the way you were too good at shooting, he thought about how you were perfect in combat.
and he thought about how you were finally at peace for some seconds, the both of you were.
"ohh! i want nachos and buffalo wings." he stopped for a second to look at you, you turned your head to the side, and he smiled "do you want something?" you shrugged and he took a deep breath "let's go with guac. funny word isn't it?" he smirked at you and you nodded slowly, a little confused "guac, guac! guuaaac!"
the waitress had the same expression on her face as she looked at the interaction, she moved her focus on the only real man as she scolded him.
"hey, no kids allowed in here. what's they got on, some kind of masks?" she started to examination you a little more and tom took notice of how she was probably a little drunk to trick her on letting the topic go.
"they're actually forty years old and suffers from a very rare skin disease that stunts his growth and makes him look... like-like that." he moved his hands around as he tried to convince her to go away .
the blue mobian heard what his friend was saying and he quickly looked at you, his chin on his hand as he talked to you with a smirk.
"the face, i was born with. the confidence, i picked up along the way." he noticed the lack of response from you and he looked at the waitress with a look that screamed 'help, what do i do?' but she didn't understood and she simply smiled at him.
"make his a mello yellow, please" begged her tom, sighing and sitting down as she finally left the table.
"you owe me one."
