"...𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐈 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐑𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋, you and your [color] friend"
those words made sonic stop on his tracks.
'crazy carl' was the nickname that he gave to the man that was speaking to him while hanging upside down.
he wasn't someone that you would trust, since he was a 'little', crazy.
but he was the only one that had seen sonic and he really wanted to catch him, but he failed every time.
still, he was an old man that no one thought too much about.
not even sonic himself.
but when you go visit your city just to see a weird limping 'child' with fur sticking out its hoodie, you kinda feel like you're loosing your mind.
especially when the fur makes you remember of your old childhood friend (who you secretly had a crush for).
so when the man that everyone thinks is crazy ,but is the only one that has ever found out about a mobian leaving on earth, tells you that there is something else, something new walking in your city, right after you have had the same doubts.
you get a little suspicious.
and that's exactly why sonic's legs had stopped abruptly, almost making him fall.
he was hiding behind a bush, ready to ran away from crazy carl, but when those words left his mouth he couldn't help but let his mind wonder.
he knew that it wasn't possible, he knew that you were gone, and he knew that there was no way that you could know where he was.
he had spent the last years hoping that you would come back, that some miracle would've happened and that you would appear in front of him like a beautiful vision.
for the past ten years every flower had make him remember you, your little collection.
his runs in the open felt horrible without you in his arms, your hands grabbing his fur, your breath on his neck.
he had cried when he had realised that he had forget how you smelled like, he had cried when he had realised that he could forgot your face, your voice.
so he had decided to go on, he didn't want to forget you, but he wanted to be okay with himself.
he had finally convinced himself that between you two was over, when you were with him it had been the happiest time of his life, but that was it.
you were gone; and he was alone.
on a planet where no one could know about him.
so yeah he was almost totally sure that it was just the universe playing games with him.
because he knew that it was the only decent possibility.
but, his heart wanted him to believe, and everyone knows that you can't control the heart.
so he decided to go home and slept it off, because there was only one thing that he was really good at.
run.
but how can you ran if your legs keep giving up underneath you? if you feel like a step is gonna make you fall?
you can't.
and like an animal in a cage he felt trapped inside his own body, with thousand of questions and zeros answers.
and only someone could've answered those, finally bringing peace into his mind.
and that someone was the only one he knew he couldn't ask anything too,
you.

"i don't know what to do"
sonic's was nervous, there was only you in his mind, and he couldn't let that happen again.
"i keep on thinking that she could be here, on this planet" he was laying on his hammock, looking up towards the ceiling as he talked explaining his feelings.
but like always he wasn't talking to anyone, only to himself.
in a moment he was up on his feet wearing glasses, pretending to be a psychologist.
"but you know, she isn't" he replied to his own self, remembering once again how things really were.
"yes." he grumpily responded after throwing himself back on the hammock.
"then stop ruining yourself over and over, stop thinking about her, go out, live the life, be grateful that no crazy scientist is trying to dissect you." the 'psychologist' said, finally making sonic nods in agreement while getting up from the hammock.
"yes! i need to go out and forget about this story" he ran out of his cave sprinting through the forest.
what he didn't realize was that he passed by a little tree house.
where someone was getting ready to go out, again.
and that someone was the only persone he wanted to see more than anyone in the universe.
you felt a strange noise coming from outside, the floor shook and you looked around confused like never before.
you moved to the window looking down but nothing could be seen, there was only some leaves slowly falling down towards the ground.
you made a sound of confusion again before shrugging your shoulders.
you walked back towards the center of the room, you put a map into your bag before taking tails' tracker in your hands.
you knew it was useless now, you remembered his words when he had tried to explain to you how his device couldn't work on the exact position, only on a larger scale.
but it had his voice recorded and you knew you couldn't leave it for anything.
you put it into your bag and you walked towards the hole on the floor, ready to climb down the tree.
you put your head through the hole looking around to see if anyone was near, no one was and you quickly went down.
ready to take a look around, you had hear that there was a baseball match that day so almost everyone was gonna be there to support the children.
the perfect moment for you to investigate every angle of green hills.
and that's what you did, you took a paper and you mapped the whole city, the most useful place, the best markets, the most popular era.
it was an hard work, when you finished you looked around at the empty streets and you were about to call it a day and go back home before you felt the voices of the people at the game.
yes you needed to be prudent, but how can you say no to curiosity?
you ran there just to take a look and you felt mesmerized as you saw all the children playing together.
your mind took a path towards your memories with your favorite fox, when you first found him, his laugh as you played with him, everything.
you took notice of how you were distracting yourself over and over and you decided to go back home.
not noticing the blue hedgehog on the other side of the pitch.
he didn't notice you either, being too focused on the game.
which had finally calmed his thoughts, forgetting about his doubts, finally having a little bit of peace in his mind.
but peace never last.
