meeting and seeing. . . . .
"SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT FOWL AND HIS FRIENDS LEADING THE WHOLE OPERATION?" Imara asked Faye, Wolf, and Halo, her irritation evident on her face. "I mean, seriously, Artemis Fowl Junior? That's just embarrassing."
"You either love him or you hate him," Faye replied. "I'm personally on the side of being a hater. Headmistress Thorpe should've picked you, Imara."
Halo laughed. "Yeah, Fowl's no ray of sunshine. But what about the others? Like, that Lyra Frederickson can't keep her mouth shut for five minutes. Ethan's just a pain in the ass, and Jay Jay Banks. . .well, he's odd."
Imara nodded. "The boys are annoying at best. But Lyra just gets under my skin. Who is she to just walk up to everyone and think they want to talk to her? And don't get me started on how she acted around Wolf."
"I don't like any of them," Wolf muttered, "but don't bring me into this session of hating on them. Besides, I think you made it quite clear to her that I'm unavailable."
Faye rolled her eyes at his comment. "The whole interaction was just sad. If she wasn't so. . extroverted, then maybe she'd have an actual chance at dating. She just looked so desperate."
"Who would actually date her?" Halo wondered.
"I don't know, and I don't care," Imara replied with a shrug. "She just needs to back off. Her little flirtation with the dark side is officially over."
Exactly as the words left her mouth, Lyra Frederickson rushed past looking stricken. As she watched, Imara could see Lyra trying desperately to rub away the tears that were rolling down her cheeks. Imara rolled her eyes, ignoring the tiny twinge of something she felt in her stomach.
Next to her, Halo and Faye were watching Lyra's reaction with amused interest. She noticed Wolf's eyes following Lyra as she went, his face impassive. She immediately scowled. Knowing that the annoyingly extroverted Lyra Frederickson had taken an interest in Wolf bugged her. He was her friend. When she first met him, she was instantly attracted to him. But, she didn't realize that other people, including this girl who unsettled her, would think the same. It didn't help that Wolf was silently observing the doorway she had left through.
In the midst of her thoughts, a figure appeared out of one of the hall's corners. As she focused on him, she grew even more irritated. He made her way over to her, hands in his pockets. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn't look twice at Jay Jay Banks. But she hated his random appearances.
"That was rude," Jay Jay said softly.
"Stop being such a creep," Faye replied.
He nodded toward Halo, saying, "He randomly pops out of the shadows and you don't get annoyed. The only difference is that you like him. You don't like me."
"Of course, we don't like you," said Imara.
Jay Jay just laughed. "If you weren't so similar, I think you'd get along very well with Artemis. He's protective of his friends, just like you." He motioned to Wolf. "However, the level of protectiveness you have for that one is scary. It's not like Lyra was going to hurt him or anything."
"Whatever you think you know, you don't."
"I don't think anything. Other than the fact that you might be a little jealous of Lyra," he replied. "Hating on others just shows that you're unhappy with yourself. There's a little part of you that wishes that you could be more like her. And don't lie about it. Everyone knows that you aren't likable. That's why you can't stand Lyra. Yes, she's overstimulating at times, but everyone likes her. And it kills you."

HE WAS WATCHING NESTOR JONES WITH INTENSE CURIOSITY FROM HIS TABLE IN THE ARCHIVES. He supposed that to any onlookers, he would be acting just as strangely as Lyra. The way he was staring at the other boy could definitely make someone squirm or call him creepy. However, he was Artemis Fowl Junior, and therefore, normal rules didn't apply to him when it came to stalking people with potential.
Earlier this morning, he had been trying his best to plan out their strategy to win an unbeatable war against this new villain. Yet, every time he wanted some peace and quiet in his dorm room, one of his friends would interrupt him. When Lyra stormed into the room, looking upset, his emotions got the better of him. He delivered her to Essie in the hopes that she would help, then made his way to the archives.
Nestor, who was leaning against one of the bookshelves asked, "So, are you just going to keep watching me? Or are you going to actually, you know, say anything?"
Artemis flushed and cleared his throat. "Um. . .possibly. What do you know about the—" he broke off, trying to think of an artifact.
Nestor raised his eyebrows. "About?"
"The. . .Rosetta Stone."
Nestor snorted loudly. "That's the best you can do, Artie?" He shook his head as he took the seat across from Artemis. "If you really wanted to talk to me, you could've just said something."
Artemis scowled. Out of all the people apart of his "team," he viewed Nestor as one of his biggest threats. They both came from parents who were interested in ancient artifacts. They were both very intelligent when it came to the history of things. And it definitely didn't help that yes, as Lyra had so kindly said, he thought Nestor Jones was possibly, slightly, hot. On top of that, he kinda, maybe, sorta liked the way the other boy said his name. . .
"What makes you think that I'd want to talk to you?" he asked, after mentally chastising himself for his moment of weakness. "And don't call me Artie."
"Whatever you say. . .Artie."
