REMINDER: This is an AU. A chapter if Evangeline didn't go out to buy ingredients, and Jasper left the army, so they are humans.

EVANGELINE WAKES UP ALONE. It had been a week since Jasper came home from the camp, she read in a letter that he was assigned to do rounds at Dallas, and Evangeline couldn't help but worry about the upcoming war. She just wishes that Jasper would come home to her unharmed.

Standing up from the bed, she looks at the white sheets and sighs. She hasn't bled since Jasper left, which isn't much surprising since the honey-blonde man never wanted to leave the house and stay with his wife until he's drafted to another town.

Maybe she's just late, she reasons to herself. Cleaning up her bed, she goes to the kitchen to make herself some breakfast. She's famished, which is unusual for her, cooking some scrambled eggs and sautรฉed vegetables.

She decided to eat the leftover soup yesterday, and when she opened the pot, she gagged. It smelled rotten, and it almost made her puke.

It wasn't to supposed to be spoiled, not this early, since she had just cooked this yesterday and stored it nicely in a pot.

Disappointed, she served herself a plate and began to eat. After that, she took a cold shower since it was blazing hot outside. She decided she'll go for another weekend to go to the market. She cannot deal with the sun today.

So she decided to stay indoors.

Sewing, one of her favorite hobbies, she decided to make her pattern, the sun and moon.

Something about those made her smile: she always sewed Jasper's initials in his handkerchief, and he always requested that she should add her touch, so she sews a heart, and on the other side, you can see a very tiny sewn E.W.

It was another typical day without Jasper.

A week has passed, and she had been having some kind of sickness every morning where her stomach felt terrible, and she just pukes.

It had been going on for two days, and she suspected that maybe she had eaten something wrong, so she went to her parent's house.

"My darling Evangeline, how are you?" Her mother greets with a smile and takes her hand, and leads her to the drawing room.

"I've had this stomach aches every morning, and maybe I ate something bad. I hoped you could give me some herbs to ease the pain."

Her mother smiles at her knowingly and asks, "How far along are you?"

Evangeline looks at her questionably. "Whatever do you mean?"

"I mean is, have you bled?"

"Not for about two weeks, and maybe I-oh," Evangeline says as she slumps back in her seat.

"Yes, oh, you've been with child for two weeks now!!" Her mother exclaims happily, and her father walks down the stairs and smirks at her.

"I adore the idea of grandkids, my darling daughter," He says while sitting down beside her mother. "Does your husband know?" He continues.

"Jasper doesn't know yet. He's been assigned to Dallas. He's not coming home for three weeks now."

"And you shall send a letter. You must inform him!!" Her mother exclaims while pouring her daughter a cup of chamomile tea.

"I would. However, I would like to tell him personally, a surprise if you must"

"Very well; I would like to aid you until he comes back."

"Of course, mother."

It had been a month, and the morning sickness only worsened. Looking down, a bump began to show, and she couldn't help but feel excited to tell Jasper. They've talked about this ever since they've been engaged.

They wanted to start a family early, so there were no complications in Evangeline's pregnancy, knowing that if she gave birth in her youth, she'd have the strength to give birth.

She couldn't help but wonder if it would be a boy or a girl. She wants a boy, to have a mini Jasper clumsily running around the house or maybe a mini Evangeline giggling happily while Jasper tickles her fondly.

She hears a horse neighing and a loud thump of afoot and then a knock. Evangeline is wearing a loose dress to cover up her bump for the so-called surprise to work.

Opening the door excitedly, she sees Jasper standing tall in his union uniform, and Evangeline couldn't help but happily hug him. "You've finally come home," she says and pulls away and puts both of her hands on his face, and places a loving kiss on his lips, and Jasper smiles fondly at her and kisses her forehead. "Of course, I've returned, darling, with a wife like you waiting for me. I'll always come home to you," and Evangeline couldn't help but smile widely at him. She's lucky to have a loving husband like Jasper.

"Come, now, I've cooked your favorite lunch," Evangeline says as she pulls him towards the dining room and serves him some food. His way here must be tiring.

"Thank you for this, darling," Jasper says as he eats. Evangeline nodded and sat beside him, and she became nervous after washing the dishes. She led him towards the drawing-room and sat them on the sofa.

"I've got something to tell you," Evangeline begins as Jasper looks at her curiously but also knowingly.

"I'm with child," she tells him, and he begins to grim widely. "Really now?" Evangeline just nods.

"I knew it," Jasper says with a smile, his white teeth showing, and Evangeline looks at him confused, "How would you know?"

"When you greeted me at the door, you got that certain glow like my mother when she was pregnant with my sister," Jasper tells her, and he couldn't help but lift her happily and spin them around, and they both laugh fondly.

"I'm going to be a father?" Jasper asks, and Evangeline nods. "You're going to be a wonderful father."

"I was hoping that'll be the news when I come back," Jasper says as he puts a hand on her belly and looks at her, and kisses her forehead. "How come, my love?"

"I made sure that you were with a child when I left," Jasper says while Evangeline rests her head on his shoulder. "After we made love, I've made sure not to remove myself from you for a long time and--"

Evangeline shushes him and says, "No need to be detailed," and she shakes her head and continues, "I now know the reason we stayed in that position now after we made love, you sly fox."

"Got to make sure I secured the goods now, darling. You can't blame me for wanting you to carry our child."

"I love you, Jasper."

"Oh, I love you more, my Evangeline."

LOUD PAINFUL SCREAMS echo through the Whitlock household, heavy breathing, sweating, and that is Evangeline Whitlock.

"Push just a little more, miss, and I can see the head," The maiden says as she removes her head from the white blanket that is covering Evangeline.

"How many pushes?" Evangeline says slowly while breathing heavily as her mother pats of the sweat from her forehead and the rest of her body.

"More, just a little more, miss."

"I need my husband, now," Evangeline demands, and she looks at her mother pleadingly.

"Your husband is a man, and he is not allowed here."

"I do not care if my husband is a damn man. He is the reason I am in this position, so he should suffer just as much," Evangeline argues, and the maiden looks at her mother and she nods as the other maid opens the door to find her husband, and not a minute, Jasper rushes in.

He sees Evangeline covered in sweat, her mother behind her, holding both of her hands tightly, and rushes towards her and takes his mother-in-law's position. Evangeline looks up at him and says, "I can't do it. I'm exhausted already."

"Come on now, darling, a few more pushes, and our little bundle of joy will be in your arms."

And with that, Evangeline starts to push, holding Jasper's hands tightly, and Jasper is surprised at how she can squeeze his hands. It's painful, but he knows he is in no position to complain when he sees his wife screaming and birthing a living, breathing human.

Then there were hours of screaming. They hear a cry.

"It's a girl."

Evangeline tiredly leaned into Jasper's chest as the man wiped off her sweat with a cool, wet cloth and removed the stray hairs from her face.

The maiden clean the babe first and hands it to the mother, and Evangeline looks at her daughter adoringly, and her daughter opens her eyes. "Jasper, she has your eyes."

Jasper smiles and places a light kiss on her forehead, "I'm proud of you, darling. Thank you for everything."

"Would you like to hold her?" Evangeline asks, and he nods gently as Evangeline hands him the babe, and Jasper comes at his daughter.

"What would you like to name her?"

"Felicity, Felicity May Whitlock."

Oh, how Jasper loves his little family with his whole heart. This is the life he has always wanted.
