WILL POV-

---- 8:03 PM ----

"Hey buddy? How are you?" Steve asked, driving Will home from work today as he decided not to ride his motor bike. Robin sat as the passenger princess turning her body around constricted by the seatbelt, her usual smile replaced by a melancholic frown seeing the smaller boy so miserable the entire shift; wanting to help, but not knowing how, needing to go about this gently. Exchanging a look with Steve

"Is something wrong?" Robin followed on

"No, I'm fine" Will lied; a bland expression on his face

"We both know that's a lie, now what's wrong?" She quietly asked

"Who do I need to beat up?" Steve tightened his grip on the steering wheel, glancing at Will through the rear-view mirror

"Steve! This is not the time for jokes" Robin jested, causing the chestnut-haired boy's lips to curl into a smile laughing

"So, what's wrong?" She added, placing a hand over

"It's just that I spent so long working on this essay that I spent so many hours on and then every time I went to my teacher, he would tell me to redo it again and again and so I spent my nights just redoing my work and he won't even read it, and then he called me whiney" Will ranted stumbling over his own words.

"Who?" Steve stated angrily, his eyebrows furrowing

"My English teacher" Will whispered

"MIKE?" the pair shout in unison, the chestnut-haired boy covered his ears from the sudden noise

"Not that dickhead again, why is he always trying to get up in your business?" Steve remarked placing a hand to squeeze his forehead

"He's not- He's not like that" Will admitted

"You're not falling in love with this guy, are you?" Steve asked

"No- of course not" Will answered

"Good, I don't approve of him" Steve added

"Okay mum" Will joked, rolling his eyes

"There is the Will I know!" Robin emphasized, throwing her hands in the air hitting the roof of the car, she smiled.

"So, are you seeing him again in your Batman costume?" she asked

"It is not a Batman costume, but yes I am" The chestnut-haired boy chuckled

"Wait! but I thought you said he was annoying you?" Steve added

"Yeah, but he's also been treating fake me so sweetly, so I feel bad cancelling" Will replied. Robin nodded understanding the predicament he was in averting the subject just trying to cheer up Will to stop him thinking about Mike, she made jokes, mostly at Steve's expense till they reached the smaller boy's home; to where he jumped out unbuckling his seatbelt.

"See you tomorrow, Byers!!" Robin and Steve shouted, zooming off

"They are so dumb" Will chuckled to himself endearingly, taking his keys out his pocket a smile stepping into his house, his spirit lifted even more so seeing his mother. Both waving exchanging a few words. Will didn't talk about the essay to his mother knowing Joyce would only march into the university demanding equal treatment for her son. Instead, he walked to the bathroom to shower; preparing for his 'date' with the ravenette.

Waltzing out, he ran to his room, sitting on the floor picking the items of clothing he would wear, wanting to dress nice after all Mike had been doing for fake him recently, even if he was being an absolute dickhead to the real Will in lessons. Taking a deep breath finally deciding on a red flannel shirt tucked into black jeans adorned with chains, learning his lesson from last time not to wear tight clothing. He chuckled to himself thinking about that day.

He shook his head standing up from the floor changing his clothes, strolling over to his desk deciding the accessories that would go best with the clothes, choosing some classic black bands placing the necklace gift around his neck, smiling as he watched himself in the mirror

"Oh shit! the wig!" Will chuckled, placing the wig on his head ensuring none of his natural hair was visible to the naked eye. Smiling, satisfied looking at the watch that read, '8:47'. Leaving early to the meeting spot strutting out his room to face his mother sitting at the kitchen table cigarette in hand

"Remember your father will be here in an hour" Joyce announced knowing Will hated whenever his father is mentioned to him

"It's just a heads up, so you're not surprised, go on your date I'll text you when he is gone" She winked, allowing her son to be out a lot later than usual today to avoid his father, enveloping him in a hug

"Thanks mum" He chuckled hugging her back

"You're welcome! Now go before you get late" She insisted pushing him away

"Wait Will one more thing." the auburn-haired woman stopped him

"Have fun" Joyce smiled allowing her son to run away from the house. Meeting Mike at the park that was a mere five minutes away, Will eagerly ran hoping the ravenette would be happy to see him, wondering what surprise date they would go on today, through the woods he saw the entrance of the park, waiting near the parking lot

Will stood in the exact area Mike had told him to wait, a bit early but he looked up at the sky honestly waiting for this date all day, after all the stress of the previous days he hoped Mike would treat him like it was Saturday, Of Course not wanting any grand gestures, only wanting to talk to Mike asking questions about his life. Even just a walk around the park was good enough for Will's stress-free evening.

He shivered, the Autumn season fading into the blissful winter in the matter of a few days, swaying side to side awaiting Mike's arrival any moment now, tapping his foot up and down out of anxiety. The wind blew a rustling of leaves into his face, holding his wig for dear life hoping the wind doesn't expose his secret identity. He jumped up and down attempting to regulate the heat around his body

---- 9:33 PM ----

The chestnut-haired boy dug his hands deep in his pockets, attempting not to lose his fingers to frostbite. Over the past half an hour he attempted to call Mike but remaining unsuccessful as he moved a few feet, sitting on a picnic table nearby, his foot tapping up and down losing his patience as leaves hit his face, being put in an even worse mood then he was before, taking off the necklace fidgeting with it in his hands being pulled out seeing a pair of footsteps approach him.

"You're late" Will said, skipping the formalities

"It's not like you're dying! Chill out" Mike spat back, snatching the necklace from the smaller boy's hands

"I'm not in the mood for your jokes Mike... give that back." Will reached over trying to grab the necklace

"Why do you pretend to date me?" Mike questioned, stopping Will in his tracks

"I mean- I don't know- you do pay me I guess" Will answered; honestly not knowing the answer. He could have said no to Mike at any time, it wasn't as if the ravenette was forcing him to date. This was a mutual understanding. However he liked getting money to pay off his dad's debt so he stops turning up to their house.

"So, your just here for the money" Mike muttered under his breath seeming as if he almost chuckled. Something in him snapped, throwing the necklace under his feet crushing it into pieces.

"What are you doing?" Will surprised jumped up from his seat

"Stop it with this childish trick!" The ravenette shouted mere inches away from Will

"What trick?" Will answered

"You pretend to be so sweet all the time, putting on a fake façade acting like you're such an amazing person lying to everyone, so you always get what you want. You've even convinced my Mother for goddamn sake!" Mike yelled, throwing his hands in the air

"You asked me to!" Will screamed back

"I should have gone with my gut! I never liked you to begin with, I could never like a boy like you" Mike spoke

"What's that supposed to mean?" The chestnut-haired boy defended himself

"You know exactly what I mean: the way you look, the way you act, just you as a person, I hate it... I hate you" The ravenette scoffed

"Don't talk about me like that" Will remained firm, his voice slightly wavering

"What? did I hurt the little boy's feelings?" Mike belittled walking away from Will pushing him back down to the seat. looking down at his outfit Will frowned subconsciously dressing better than usual for this date, excited to see the soft side of Mike again. He stood up walking home, brushing the dirt from his clothes taking the long way home, honestly feeling sad not understanding why the ravenette had become so aggressive and blunt this week, not just to him but seemingly to everyone. The rain poured, feeling his wig get sloppy he swiftly made his way home, stepping into puddles

Finally approaching his house, jingling the keys under the shade of the patio, he opened the door strolling in smelling the faint smell of beer waft in the air, Will knew what this meant, his father was here. But he didn't want to make his presence known for multiple reasons, attempting to slip by unnoticed. Tiptoeing across the hall making sure not to make any noise.

"Aren't you even going to say hello to your own pops?" Lonnie popped up seemingly out of nowhere

"Hi dad" Will choked not in the mood to talk to his father after everything that has happened today

"What are you wearing?" He spat eyeing his son up and down, Will looked down at his clothes realising what he was wearing knowing his father would obviously get the wrong idea about it

"I- I need to go" Will excused himself, stopped by a hand gripping his arm

"No, I don't support it" Lonnie scoffed tightening his grip

"What?" Will furrowed his eyebrows

"I do not want a crossdresser in my house" Lonnie jeered

"This isn't your house" Will protested releasing his arm, taking a few steps back

"I paid for it" Lonnie stated crossing his arms

"Well, you left us, when we were young" Will replied

"You only decide to visit every so often so mum could pay off YOUR DEBT" He added shouting the last few words knowing his father hated when anyone mentioned it

"How dare you speak to me like that! After all I did for you." Lonnie became visibly angry with every word, threateningly coming close

"Mum took care of us. You were making out with teenagers every other day, you're not a good father" Will shouted. Big mistake. Lonnie balled his fist throwing a punch into the boy's face, right in the eye. He yelped in pain, that's going to leave a mark and he already knew it. Falling to the ground, covering the eye as his father stood over him

"Your mother didn't do shit! It's her fault you turned out a fairy" He spat, looking down at Will kicking him harshly in the foot. Will pushed him away, running to his room. He wanted away from his father, away from Mike, away from everyone. Not understanding why he was treated the way he was. Was it his fault? Was he the mistake? Locking himself in his room. He ran straight over to his bed not bothering to change his clothes or even take off his wig, his face shoved into his pillow muffling the sound of his sobs as he heard his parents argue from the kitchen feeling how he did when he was younger before the divorce, thinking that he never had to experience the arguments again, ever since his father left them for a younger woman.

He sobbed harder burying his face even deeper into his pillow, he just wanted to sleep, be unconscious for a few hours. That would make him better.
