JESSE LONGED FOR CHANGE.

He longed to see more than the things Avalon offered. He longed for a lot of things, but more importantly, Jesse wanted a life where he could finally be himself and be with the one person who understood him the most: Aliya.

Sadly, ever since Jesse found his talent and gained his wings, life has never worked out in his favor. Sure, Jesse had fame, friends and a life he wouldn't have ever dreamt of before, but everything came at the expense of things he held close: his dreams, his real best friend, and the connections he made with Aliya's family. But, as his powers grew stronger, so did the impending pressure of being perfect.

Desperate to please his parents (and Avalon), Jesse takes the advice from his advisor, Atticus, and attempts to move on from his childish dreams of being part of the human's world. Essentially, this means getting rid of his human collection, put aside his feelings towards his (now) on-and-off best friend, Aliya, and try to make himself interested in Iris, who has begun flirting her way into being his girlfriend.

However, no matter how much he tries, Jesse just can't bring himself to get rid of his human collection. Even worse, he can't trick himself into loving Iris, as his heart longs for Aliya instead, which is frustrating because Jesse knows everyone would disapprove of their relationship, especially his parents.

Yet, everything truly changes on the night of his seventeenth birthday. From a marriage proposal he never wanted to him hurting Aliya in front of everyone, things simply couldn't get worse (spoiler alert: it does)!

With his parents burning his collection's worth of his human artifacts serving as a last straw, Jesse gets overcome by his emotions and in a last-ditch effort to gain some kind of control over his life, he seeks out Narcissa, a powerful sea witch with a mysterious past of her own.

Upon approaching Narcissa, Jesse is desperate for a way out of the life he has grown to despise, giving up his voice at a chance of gaining clarity. However, a price hangs in the balance and Jesse neglected to read the contract. With three days to spare, Jesse has to complete his end of the deal, or risk losing his voice (and his freedom) forever.ย

Truly alone and realizing the mistake he made, Jesse needs help and fast. Only, no one knows where he went, or even where he is.

Or, so Jesse thinks....

Meanwhile, a search party is ongoing for Jesse, but everyone is more worried about how Jesse's disappearance will impact the love aspect of their life, not him. Disgusted by the lack of concern from Jesse's "so-called friends" (but not surprised by Iris, who is more worried about her "marriage" to him), Aliya takes it upon herself to find Jesse.

Only when Lillian and Jaxon learn of Aliya's plan, the siblings relay the news to Aliya's parents, aunt and Faustin who all admire her willingness to help Jesse out, but insist she won't be able to go to the human realm alone. As a compromise, she takes Lillian and Jaxon with her.

Upon venturing into the human realm, the trio realize just how much trouble Jesse is truly in and agree to help him. Things start out fine until Jaxon realizes Jesse and Aliya are starting to fall in love, much to their jealousy (as they also have feelings for the love fairy).

Despite Jesse and Aliya's budding romance (and Jaxon's ever growing jealousy), Lillian is quick to remind the group of more pressing matters. With time running out and their efforts slowly coming undone, Jesse is slowly losing hope. With Jaxon volunteering to keep Jesse's spirits up, Aliya and Lillian decide to look for the culprit sabotaging their mission.

But with no leads, the girls are at a dead end.... Until one fateful night when Aliya lucks out and catches Jaxon talking to one of Narcissa's goons. As such, a fight breaks out between the two. After Jax goes too far in the midst of the argument, Aliya seemingly takes their response to heart.

Despite Jaxon and Aliya barely on speaking terms since their fight, Aliya (in particular) doesn't hold a grudge against them. Partially, because she knew they were telling the truth about her negatively impacting Avalon and her family for the worse.

With the guilt weighting over her and doubt pulling her down, Aliya does the only thing she knows she's actually good at: being reckless. By seeking out the sea witch alone and tricking Narcissa into making a deal with her, Aliya assumes she's doing the right thing by eliminating Jesse's original deal, thus setting him free while taking his place.

Upon gaining his voice back on the last sunset, Jesse is shocked, considering his side of the bargain isn't complete. Despite this, the siblings are thrilled, and Aliya is relieved to know Narcissa held her end of the bargain.

While Jesse, Jaxon and Lillian are ecstatic about the latest turn of events and rejoicing, the trio are blissfully unaware of Aliya being the real reason Jesse was able to regain his voice back so easily. So when the trio head back to Avalon, no one actually realizes Aliya isn't with them until Faustin, Stormy, Amara and Issac bring the matter up.

In that moment, their joy quickly sours when the trio realize why Narcissa released Jesse from her grasp so easily... With the tables turned, Jesse must now rely on Lillian, Jaxon, Faustin, and Aliya's family to save his best friend before she ends up paying the price for his mistakes.

Firstly, this book takes place before the official Avalonian Tales events. Because of this, some characters/ideas/concepts are explored in this book that will expand into Secrets of the Lamp, the sequel of this book, which is a retelling of Disney's Aladdin, because well I've been feeling Disney lately.

Additionally, this is all of the cast regarding this book. Should things change, I will update the casting list.

Aliya and everyone else (excluding the adults) are relatively young adults here, making the age range 16-21. As a result, the topics going into this book shouldn't be dark, but just take my word with a grain of salt. Trigger warnings will be posted in front of the desired chapter should something occur.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to ask and let me know! I don't bite, I promise! I'll do my best to respond to you as soon as possible. Thank you all again and I will see you all in the next update! Enjoy and stay safe, my little miraculers and akumas! ^^

Note: The animated gifs are NOT mine! I am not capable of owning these amazing gifs. Credit goes to its respective media and the creator of the gif. Furthermore, the changes I made in the book (regarding the casting) will be reflected in their character's bio, so be on the lookout for some changes.

Additionally, I do not own the quotes from Disney's The Little Mermaid. As such, the quotes from the movie strictly belong to Disney and the creators of The Little Mermaid themselves. I only used selective quotes as a mere reflection of the characters (to an extent).

On the other hand, I do not own Stormy. Stormy is a original character belonging to GeekyCookie1.
