The sun was beginning to set outside, casting shadows across my dimly lit office. It seemed that I stayed here later and later each night. My house becoming somewhere I only frequented to sleep for a few hours each night.

Something had shifted in the air.

Early this morning when I stepped into the building, I could tell that something was different...I just couldn't tell what.

Now, the sounds from beyond my door has quieted, students leaving for the night, teachers not far behind them.

Sighing, I glanced over at the pile of files on my desk, numerous students who needed my help.

When I was first hired as the school psychologist, there were a handful of students who needed my support...now it seemed that I saw the entire student body each week.

I was glad they were willing to see me, willing to discuss everything that plagued their minds. But that didn't mean that it made my job any less stressful.

Thirteen years ago, my brother and our friends had defeated the Anuk-ite.

That opened up a door in Beacon Hills. The supernatural more understood...more accepted.

But those students who dealt with the pressure of the supernatural were the ones who sat across the desk from me the most. To a certain extent I understood what they were going through—I had witnessed it with my brother, with my now-husband. And while I couldn't relate on a deep, personal level, I could at least understand them.

My eyes trailed to the file that sat in front of me.

Eli Hale.

I wasn't supposed to have favourites, but he was by far my favourite student. That was likely due to my close and extensive relationship with his father, but there was also something about him that struck me. Maybe it was because he reminded me of my own brothers—his mannerisms much too like both Scott and Stiles at his age. Maybe it's because something about him also reminded me of Liam.

Tapping my pencil against the table, I let out a small breath, shaking my head. Derek and I had tried to work through Eli's issues, why he wasn't shifting, but Eli was unwilling to even try.

As if reading my mind, there was a quiet tap on my door.

Closing Eli's file, I glanced up. "Come in."

The door slowly opened, a dark haired boy stepping into the small room. "Coach said you wanted to see me."

I studied his lacrosse uniform, my eyes lingering on the number printed across his chest. It had been my brother's number...another reminder of how alike they truly were.

Breaking my gaze, I locked eyes with Eli, giving him a small nod. "Yeah." I answered, "I got a call from the sheriff today."

An exasperated sigh fell from Eli's lips as he flopped down into the chair in front of my desk. "Syd—"

One look from me caused him to break off. He knew how he was supposed to address me at school, and it wasn't by my first name.

"Mrs. Dunbar." He corrected with a quick eye-roll. "I don't get why this Jeep thing is such a huge deal. My dad owns it, right? So is it really stealing?"

A small smile threatened to break across my face as I dropped my head for a moment, shaking my head. "That's not the point, Eli."

"What's the point then?"

"The point, is that you're fifteen years old. You don't have a license, the vehicle isn't actually yours, and you were supposed to be at school today. That's the point, Eli."

He chewed on his bottom lip, watching me for a moment before shaking his head. "You guys did stuff like this when you were my age. My dad told me all about it. You all turned out just fine."

Narrowing my eyes, I clasped my hands in front of me. "My goal here is for you not to do the same stuff we used to." I paused for a moment, watching the way he nervously picked at his cuticles. "Eli, you can talk to me about these things. If not as the school counsellor, then as your—your..."

"As my what?" Eli pressed, raising his brows.

"Your friend."

A laugh flew from his lips as he shook his head, "Is that what we are now? Besties? Wanna do each other's nails and—"

"Eli, come on." I pleaded, leaning forward slightly. "I know how hard shifting can be... I watched it with my brother, and I watched it with my husband."

He leaned further into his chair, "Yeah, but they didn't have a problem with actually shifting, did they?"

I couldn't argue with what he was saying. Both Scott and Liam had shifted without even wanting to. They weren't born as werewolves like Eli was, it wasn't in their blood from birth. Their experiences weren't the exact same as his.

"You're right." I conceded. "It's not the exact same...but it's not completely different."

Running a hand through his hair, he let out a sigh. "Look, I appreciate what you're trying to do here, but it's just not—"

A knock at the door cut him off, both of our eyes straying toward where the noise had come from.

"Just a second!" I called, returning my attention to Eli. "Sorry. Finish what you were—"

The knock came again, a pang of frustration hitting me as I looked to Eli. He was watching with with a furrowed brow.

Leaning forward slightly, I rose my voice. "I'm with a student. I'll be with you in just a—"

Again.

This time the knock was louder, more urgent.

The wheels of my chair squeaked as I rolled back, pushing myself to my feet with a huff of a breath. "Sorry, Eli. One second." I apologized, rounding my desk to make for the door.

The knocking was incessant now, not stopping until I finally yanked the door open. "Excuse me. I said I'm with a—"

The words died in my throat, reduced to a mere squeak as I faced the person on the other side of the door.

Shock washed over me as I focused my attention on her, my brain not completely comprehending what I was seeing.

It had been over a decade since I had seen her in person, but she looked virtually the same.

"Kira?" Her name tumbled from my lips, my hand still gripping the doorknob as I tried to run over the possibilities as to why she was here. Not just in Beacon Hills, but why she was standing in front of my office.

"Syd, I need to talk to you." She declared, forgoing any greetings. "It's urgent."

Finally snapping out of my shock trance, I managed to nod. Releasing my grasp on the door, I stepped aside to allow her to enter.

"Eli," I called, turning to face him. "Go get ready for the game. Ask Liam to come see me, please. Tell him it's important."

Snickering, Eli pushed himself to his feet. "Don't you mean Mr. Dunbar?"

"Eli," I snapped, this time more harshly. "Now."

Raising his hands in surrender, he stepped around Kira and me, making for the door. "Alright, alright. Chill."

Kira had taken to pacing around my office as Eli disappeared into the hallway, hopefully none the wiser to the danger we were likely in. If Kira was here, after fifteen years away, it could only mean trouble.

"Kira," I spoke, my voice wobbling, "What's going on?"

She stopped her pacing, turning to look at me with a weathered expression. "Don't you wanna wait for Liam?"

I glanced over my shoulder, listening to see if I could hear him making his way down the hallway yet. "He'll be here soon."

A small laugh fell from her lips as she looked at the wedding photograph of Liam and I that sat on my desk. "I still can't believe you two got married...I remember that day we brought him to Lydia's lake house. I could tell then that you two were meant to be."

My cheeks tinged red as I recalled the day close to fifteen years ago. So much had happened since then.

"And now you both work here." She commented, eyes now lingering over my name plate that sat on my desk. "At the school where it seemed everything happened."

It was sort of fitting that this school is where Liam and I first met. And now, here we were, him a history teacher and assistant coach, me, the school psychologist. Despite the fact we worked together, I swear we barely saw one another on a daily basis.

Glancing back into the hallway, there was still no sign of Liam. "Kira, I know you didn't come here to talk about Liam and I. And as much as I would love to catch up, I can tell there's something going on."

She lifted her eyes to meet mine, her face giving way to the emotions that seemed to be plaguing her. "It's back." She whispered, voice shaking furiously.

I felt my face pale, my body seeming to seize with panic as I stilled. "What?" I demanded, my own voice trembling. "What's back?"

Liam slipped into my office, silently joining me at my side as he faced Kira. If he was shocked to see her, he didn't address that right away. Instead, he listened to what she had to say.

With her eyes flickering between the two of us, Kira spoke again. "The Nogitsune."

Looking to me, Liam watched as my face fell. He reached out, taking a hold of one of my hands before speaking. "How do you know?"

Liam wasn't around when everything had happened with the Nogitsune all those years ago. He didn't see firsthand what had happened to Stiles...what had gotten Allison killed. But he had heard enough recounts of the events to know that this was bad...very bad.

"The triskelion urn...it was stolen. Isaac called me this morning. He was attacked, by a hooded man, and the urn was taken. The man...he released the spirit." Kira's voice was less shaky as she spoke now, but still wavered slightly.

My breath hitched in my throat, Liam tightening the grasp he had on my hand as we listened to her speak. Isaac had taken the triskelion urn containing the Nogitsune spirit away from Beacon Hills after Allison had been killed. He had kept it safe for all these years...until now.

"Is Isaac okay?" I wondered, that being the most pressing thing on my mind at the moment.

Nodding, Kira resumed her nervous pacing. "He's fine...but we won't be. Not if we don't stop the Nogitsune."

I turned to Liam, my face heavy with concern as we locked eyes. We couldn't turn away from this, we had to fight.

Fifteen years ago, when the Nogitsune first possessed Stiles, I was only fourteen years old. I was kept in the dark about a lot of what was happening. But now, I was a grown adult. I knew almost as much, if not more, about how to stop this thing than my brother and our friends did.

I had spent years learning about the supernatural, being sure I could help protect those who could not protect themselves, being sure I could support those students who lived in the world of the supernatural.

Studying my expression, Liam knew exactly what I was thinking. "Okay." He agreed immediately. "We're in."

Reaching into my back pocket, my phone was in my hands in a matter of seconds, selecting the fourth number on my speed dial.

Neither Kira nor Liam said a word, each of them trusting that whoever I was about to call was going to help us in the long run.

The line rang twice, being picked up on the third ring. I could practically hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. "Hey, Syd."

A shaky breath fell from my lips, "We need your help."
