christmas special pt. 2!! (flashforward pt. 4)
Gentle Christmas music echoed off the walls as the smell of freshly baked buns floated through the air.
Laughter and chatter filled the room as I settled into one of the armchairs, a blissful smile on my face.
This is what Christmas was all about. Being surrounded by my family brought me more joy than I could ever express.
I watched as Stiles hovered around the Christmas tree, sorting through the presents before handing them out to everyone. Lydia sat nearest to him, trying to explain who each gift belonged to. Scott and Malia sat curled up on one of the couches while my mom hurried around trying to take pictures of everyone.
Chris Argent sat and watched each of us with a smile. He seemed as content as I was. He may had lost his family, but he gained one in us. Sheriff sat next to him, looking equally as happy.
Liam was situated on the edge of my chair, gently pushing a piece of hair from my face as he smiled down at me. "Is this Christmas everything you ever wanted?"
Smiling, I adjusted the tiny baby that lay in my arms. "Yes." I answered truthfully. "Everything and more."
The newest member of our family was mine and Liam's daughter. She was the most perfect thing to ever exist in our eyes. At only three months old, this was her first Christmas making it a bigger deal than usual to each and every one of us.
The pack, and our families, loved the newest member more than what can be expressed with words. She was the most spoiled and protected little girl to grace this earth.
Wren Allison Dunbar.
I never knew such a tiny little thing could have such an impact on not only my life, my the life of so many others. Wren had changed both Liam and I, and those closest to us. She gave all of us just one more thing to fight for.
Liam gently ran a finger over Wren's cheek, admiring her as she slept. Quite honestly, that is what most of his time consisted of. I swear he would sit and watch her sleep all day if he could.
"Okay!" Stiles announced, holding up the first present. "Little Miss Wrenny goes first."
Passing the present off to Liam, he held his arms out toward me. "Give her to uncle Stiles. We can open it together."
Letting out a small laugh, I passed my daughter toward him. "She looks thrilled to be opening presents." I commented, watching as she stirred slightly as Stiles positioned her in his arms.
"She's just happy to be with me." He grinned, looking down at her with affection.
"Sure." Liam laughed. "We'll go with that."
Glaring at him for a moment, Stiles took the present and made quick work of unwrapping it...Wren slept the entire time.
But as he tore off the last piece of wrapping paper, I felt my heart swell as a huge smile spread across my face at the gift that lay beneath the paper.
It was a little wolf stuffie, and immediately a collective laugh sounded around the room. It was arguably the most perfect gift.
My eyes zeroed in on the person who had given it to my daughter. It was obvious to me the minute it was opened who it was.
Grinning, my brother looked over at me with a small shrug. "Just so she always knows who her family is. And so she knows she's always protected."
My heart felt like it grew ten sizes as I smiled back at my brother. There were not enough words to express how grateful I was for him, especially now as I started my new journey as a mother. I would not have been half the person I was today without him.
The rest of the night was perfect. Wren slept through her entire first Christmas, but it was one I would never soon forget.
We opened presents, ate good food, played games and laughed together. Everything about it was perfect.
As the night dwindled down, and we all packed up our presents and put on our coats, hugs were given all around.
Stiles spent more time hugging Wren than he did hugging me, but I wasn't going to complain. Seeing the way he cared for my daughter reinforced the fact that he truly was my second brother.
Lydia had to quite literally pry the baby out of his arms if she wanted any chance to hold her.
Liam watched with a smile as my mom and Chris said goodbye to our daughter, and when it was finally time, he gently took her from their arms and fastened her into her carseat.
He was the best father I could have ever imagined for our children. He loved our daughter more than he loved anything in this world. He often told me it was a tie between Wren and I...but I didn't believe it, and I didn't need to. Him loving Wren with all of his heart was all I could ever ask for.
Once all of the goodbyes were said, the two of us were finally alone in the car, a silence settling over us for a moment as we drove the short distance back to our own home.
"You know," Liam said, glancing into the rearview mirror. "I don't think our baby girl will ever have to be scared of anything in life. She has so many people in her corner, the girl is basically invincible."
I let out a laugh as I turned to look at our slumbering daughter. "She sure is lucky." I whispered, eternally thankful for the people that surrounded us.
Taking a hold of my hand, Liam pressed a warm kiss to it. "Merry Christmas, Syd. I love you."
Smiling, I intertwined my fingers in his own. "Merry Christmas, Liam. I love you."
