71.
"Take your time." Peter said, turning his head slightly to look at Stiles, "No rush. The only thing at stake is any evidence of our existence, soon to be lost...forever."
"Okay, not helping!" Stiles announced as he continued to fiddle with the equipment. He had been working for what felt like hours trying to make any contact with the real world and so far-no luck.
"Can you just let him work?" I questioned as I stood up from my seat across the room and walked towards the two men.
"If I knew it-" Peter cut himself off abruptly, quickly turning his head towards the door.
"Peter, what is it?" I asked nervously
"They're coming!" he announced, rushing towards one of the panels and pulling all the wires Stiles had been fiddling with for the past hour or so out.
"Come on!" He snapped, grabbing a hold of both Stiles and I, quickly pulling us from the room and back into the main part of the station where the 3 of us ducked behind a pillar.
I watched as one of the Ghost Riders approached the door of the room we were just in, my heart beat racing as he kicked it open and entered the room.
"Incase you're keeping count, that's twice I've saved your life today." Peter announced before turning and walking away, leaving Stiles and I staring at each other.
"As much as I hate the guy, he's right." I pointed out, "If he hadn't of been in that room with us, we would still be in there, and most likely dead."
Stiles nodded as he ran his hand through his hair, something he did when he was anxious, "Yeah, I know." With that he turned and pushed himself up against the wall, slowly sliding down it as his head fell into his hands,
I decided it was better I leave him alone at this point, so I moved towards one of the empty seats, sitting myself down. I ran a shaky hand through my hair before looking down at my feet, resting my elbows on my knees I played with the necklace Liam had given me. I wondered what he was doing right now. Did he remember me? Or had he already moved on with his life, like I was never there?
I didn't have long to think as the familiar sound of the horses filled my ears. The Ghost Riders were back again. I shot up in panic, my eyes searching for Stiles. He found me first, grabbing my arm and pulling the two of us behind one of the seats, Peter following behind us.
My heart was beating like crazy and I was having trouble controlling my breathing, afraid that they would somehow find out that we were trying to escape their trap.
The Ghost Riders came flying in, shooting their guns off into the air as people around me screamed.
Stiles grabbed my hand giving it a tight squeeze, "It's okay Syd, we're safe for now."
I watched as the Ghost Riders dumped more people off of their horses, but one of them caught my eye. They were wearing a lacrosse helmet and a Beacon Hills jersey, it was so dark in there so that for a moment I thought it could be Liam. Once I got a closer look and whoever it was took off their helmet I realized it wasn't Liam, but I knew them.
"I think I know her-" Stiles began.
"-Her name's Gwen. I got taken the night we were trying to protect her." I explained, "That's her sister, Phoebe." I said, pointing to the girl Gwen was hugging. She must have been here the entire time but I guess I had just failed to notice her.
The Ghost Riders continued firing shots into the air as we all continued ducking in horror. People were still screaming and I was still wishing I was anywhere but here.
"How long has this been going on?" Stiles asked, his eyes darting around the station.
Peter looked towards the board that had all of the "stops" listed on it, his eyes widening slightly in realization, "This isn't a train station, it's a wait station! This isn't going to stop." He announced. He looked back to the board, letting out a groan as he allowed his head to rest against one of the seats we were hiding behind.
"What does that mean?" I asked, looking from the board back to him.
"What is it, what are those places?" Stiles asked, "Bannack, Canaan, I know you know something."
"We gotta get out of here." Peter urged, "Nobody's safe."
"What? In here?" Stiles asked.
"Your family, your friends, everybody you've ever known. They're going to be taken." And then Peter started running.
"Where are you going!?" I whispered, not daring to speak any louder than that.
"Come on." Stiles said, grabbing my hand and pulling me along behind him in pursuit of Peter. We both kept our heads ducked low as we ran through the station, back towards the tunnels.
Once we caught up to Peter we stopped running, "What did you see up there, the towns what do they mean?" Stiles asked.
"I told you," said Peter, "They're never gonna stop."
"So, do we have a plan then?" I piped in from beside Stiles.
Peter nodded, "Yeah, going through the portal."
"What?" Stiles and I demanded simultaneously.
"No one can survive the portal, you said it yourself." Stiles reminded.
"No human can. I better than a human, remember? I'll heal."
I stared at Peter in shock, I could not believe he was actually considering this.
Peter stopped walking, turning to look at Stiles and I, "Kids, let's not have a moment alright?"
"If you survive, you have to find our friends for us alright? Tell them about us cause they're not going to remember us-" Stiles was rambling.
"When I survive." Peter corrected, "I am going to get as far away from Beacon Hills as I can and if I happened upon one of you below average friends and it doesn't inconvenience me, I might mention your names."
I stared at him in shock. The selfishness of this man blew my mind, "You have to tell Scott." I demanded, we needed Scott to know.
"I don't have to do anything Sydney."
He gave Stiles and I quick pats on the shoulders before turning and walking away from us, further down the tunnel.
"Yeah, what about Malia?" Stiles called, knowing that would change Peter's thinking, even if it was only a little bit.
This theory was proven correct as Peter froze, he stayed still for a moment before turning back around to look at us.
"I know you're doing this for her," Stiles continued, "You're risking being incinerated for her and I'm okay with that."
Stiles wasn't able to say anything more as the sound of the Ghost Riders' horses filled the air.
"Stiles," Peter said, looking down the tunnel, "Stall."
"What?" Stiles almost yelled, "How?"
"Use your head." And then Peter was running down the tunnel, leaving Stiles and I in a panic.
"Sydney, get up there and hide." Stiles demanded, pulling me towards the platform.
"No, I'm not leaving you!" I promised.
"Syd, please. I'm not going to let anything bad happen to you so please just get up there." Stiles was giving me the most pleading and terrified look. It was similar to the look he had given me the night Donovan died.
"Please be careful." I whispered, as I allowed him to lift me onto the platform. I ducked behind one of the pillars. After thinking for a few moments, Stiles followed after me, looking around before pushing one of the benches onto the track.
"It's okay, I'm here." Stiles promised as he joined me behind the pillar. I was shaking by this point. We watched as the horse stopped my Stiles' roadblock, only pausing for a few moments before stepping over it.
Stiles grabbed my arm, pulling us out into the open where we had a better view, the Ghost Riders had already passed us and had almost no chance of seeing us now. I held my breath as Peter moved out from behind his pillar, wasting no time jumping onto the back of the horse.
"Come on Peter." I whispered as he almost lost his balance and fell from the back of the horse.
Once he regained his balance, he turned back around to look at the two of us. I locked eyes with him for a brief moment, my focus being disrupted when another Ghost Rider went past us, pausing in front of Stiles and I before wrapping its whip around Stiles' neck, throwing him to the ground harshly. Before it had the chance to do the same to me I moved behind one of the pillars. The Ghost Rider, not seeming to care, didn't make the effort to throw me from the platform as well, and so it just moved on.
From the safety of the pillar, I observed as the horse Peter was on made it through the barrier, and Peter made it too.
I let out a breath of disbelief, I could not believe he did it. Stiles was already up from the ground and pulling himself up to the platform so he was beside me, "He did it." I whispered in awe.
"Yeah, he did."
