59.

"I told you we should have taken my car." I grunted, crossing my arms over my chest, in attempts to shield myself from the wind.

"It's fine, I just have to change the tire, easy as that."

"Liam, I'm cold!" I whined, giving my boyfriend a displeased look.

"Sydney I don't need your nagging right now. There's one of my sweaters in the back seat, put it on and go find the jack." Liam pleaded as he stood up, wiping his hands on his jeans.

I let out a groan as I went into the car, grabbing his lacrosse sweater, throwing it on over my head. After I started to thaw I went to the trunk of the car, searching hopelessly for a jack.

"Liam?" I called, peering my head out so he could see me.

"What?" he asked, giving me a look as if he thought I was about to complain about something else.

"There's no jack in here." I replied, looking one last time to ensure I didn't miss it.

"Are you serious?" he groaned, joining me at the trunk.

I sent him a teasing smile. "Liam, this car is as old as my mother, what did you expect?"

"It's new!" he argued.

"New to you." I pointed out, leaning against the car in defeat. I sat like that for a moment before an idea popped into my head. "Wait," I said perking up, "Lift up the car."

"Why?" Liam questioned. "How is that-oh" he said, finally cluing into my plan.

"I'll get the spare." I announced, bending down to check under the car.

"You know how to change a tire?" Liam asked, scrunching up his face in disbelief.

A grin covered my face. "I am a woman of many wonders."

Liam rolled his eyes as he hoisted up the car, "Did you find it?"

"Liam, I'm guessing your parents never taught you to be prepared for everything did they?" I muttered, sitting back on my heals.

"Why do you ask?" my lovely, but might I add rather slow boyfriend questioned.

"There's no spare." I sighed, standing up and walking to where a deflated Liam was standing, "I'm calling Scott."

"No!" Liam almost shouted, grabbing my phone from my hand.

"Why not?" I demanded. "It's not like we're getting home anytime soon. He'll come get us."

"Because! He'll never let me take you out again." he argued.

"Liam, your car broke down, it's not like you took me a gang fight." I pointed out, trying to curb his worried.

"Syd, please stop trying to be funny, I'm serious!" he groaned.

"Okay, okay fine I won't call him." I obliged.

Liam shook his head, looking down at his feet, "I'm sorry, this date blows."

"No, no it doesn't" I soothed, reaching out to grab his hand, "It's better than the time we agreed to go out with Scott and Kira, or when we both almost died, that was a bad one."

Liam let out a laugh as he looked up at me, "Or the time Scott and Stiles followed us so they could spy on us."

"Oh God, don't remind me," I mumbled, a smile creeping onto my face. "The point is, no date is bad when I'm with you, even when we're stuck in the middle of no where."

"I love you." he mumbled, grabbing the sleeve of my-his- sweater, pulling me close to him.

"I love you too." I smiled as he pressed his lips to mine.

Our moment was cut short as I was forced to pull back as a pair of headlights illuminated the road in front of us, "Liam, look."

Liam turned around to look at the car that was coming towards us, "Maybe they can help us. Flag them down."

I did as he said and began to wave my arms, hoping the car would stop, however it didn't, instead it slowly crept towards us until it was stopped by a fence post.

"What the hell?" I looked over to Liam in confusion.

"Syd, get in the car." Liam order.

"No, I'm coming with you." I shot back, running after Liam who was already at the driver side of the mystery car.

He looked back at me before grabbing the handle and pulling it open, only to reveal an empty car, "There's no one in here."

As soon as he said that the back door flew open and a boy probably around 11 or 12 shot out of the car.

"Hey!" Liam shouted, scrambling out of the car in pursuit of the boy.

I grabbed the boy, stopping him from getting away, "Calm down." I instructed softly as the boy looked around in panic.

"Please." he cried, "Please don't let them take me too."

---

I paced around the Sheriff's station, waiting for Stilinski to come and tell us what was going on. After we found the boy-Alex was his name- we called Scott and Stiles (obviously), they came and picked us up and took the three of us right to the police station, Stilinski was now in with Alex, trying to get any information he could. Liam had gone home, and technically I was supposed to, but something drew me to this kid and I wanted to do everything I could to help him.

"So, what did he say exactly when you guys found him?" Stiles asked, breaking me out of my worrisome pacing.

"He said 'Please don't let them take me too'." I answered, "I have no clue what it means, why would they just take the parents and leave the kid, I don't get it."

"I don't know, but there's something off about this whole thing." Stiles observed.

"Guys," Sheriff called, causing all three of us to look over at him ,"I have an idea, but I need your help."

Scott, Stiles and I exchanged glances before following Stilinski into his office, where Alex was sitting on one of the chairs.

"Scott," Sheriff started, hesitantly, "When you," he paused holding up his hand and pretending to shove it into the back of Alex's neck, "You can see their memories right?"

Scott nodded, "Yeah, usually. It's dangerous though."

"It's our only hope." I added.

"Sydney's right Scott, we have to try this." Stiles pointed out.

Scott lowered his voice, "He's okay with this?" he asked, nodding his head towards Alex.

Sheriff nodded, "He just wants to find his parents."

"Okay." Scott breathed, moving so he was beside Alex, "You ready?"

Alex took a deep breath and nodded, signalling it was okay for Scott to start, and so he did. As he drove his claws into the back of the young boys neck, both of them took a sharp intake of air, Alex's eyes rolling back in his head as a look a pain covered Scott's face.

"Are they okay?" Sheriff asked, looking from the two boys, back to his son and I.

"Yeah, they're good. It looks like it's working." I replied, not taking my eyes off of my brother and the boy.

All of a sudden Scott pulled back, gasping for air as Alex slumped forward in the chair. I immediately knelt down in front of Alex, cupping his face in my hands in attempts to wake him up.

"Scott, what did you see?" Stiles questioned, rushing towards Scott.

"I saw a guy on a horse." Scott panted, "he had a gun."

"He had a gun? That sounds like my department." Sheriff concluded.

I looked over at the trio, still holding Alex's head in my hands, "Well what about his parents, what happened to them?"

"I-I don't know, that's all I remember but-" Scott paused for a moment, "I got this feeling."

"What kind of feeling?" Sheriff asked, eyeing Scott in confusion.

"They're back." Alex's voice caused me to jump, dropping my hands from his face while doing so, "They're coming for me."

---

"Did you guys find anything else out about the kid?" Liam asked as the two of us walked through the hallways of BHHS.

"His name is Alex." I corrected him, stopping at my locker to grab the binders I would need for the rest of the day.

"Okay sorry, Alex." Liam conceded. "What did you find out?"

I sighed, closing my locker and turning to look at Liam, "Scott saw a guy on a horse-"

"A horse?" he asked in slight disbelief.

"Yes a horse, Nay, nay horse. Anyway, Scott said he had a gun and he just took them." I explained as the two of us fell into step, making out way down the hall.

"They're just gone? No blood or any trace of them?" Liam wondered. I understood his confusion, we were all confused.

"That's how it looks."

"Weird."

"I'll say." I mumbled, setting down my books and sliding into one of the outdoor tables where   Scott and Lydia already sat.

"Hey lovebirds." Lydia greeted, a huge smile on her face.

"Please stop calling us that." I groaned, throwing my head back in annoyance which caused Liam to let out a small laugh.

"Never." she whispered, sending me a quick wink.

I playfully rolled my eyes as I glanced around. "Where's Stiles and Malia?" I asked, trying to get off the topic if Liam and I.

"Malia is getting yearbook photos and.." Scott turned around to look at the set up for photos, where Malia was sitting on a stool attempting to get her photo done and Stiles was somehow getting in every picture, "It looks like Stiles is being Stiles."

"You ruined it!" Malia groaned as she pulled Stiles away from the camera.

"Why would I want to ruin your yearbook photos?" Stiles asked, offended that she would suggest it.

"Maybe because you haven't signed up for your own." Malia offered as the two of them joined us.

"Uh, yes I did." Stiles said matter of factly as he pulled a sheet out of his back pocket. He unfolded it and shoved it in all of our faces.

"Stiles, it's blank." I said, looking at him in bewilderment,

"Oh." he said looking down at the sheet himself, "Huh."

"Or maybe you're sublimating the stress of graduating by avoiding key mile stones." Scott said, finally looking up from his notebook.

All 5 of us looked at him in slight confusion as well as disbelief. Scott didn't know that many big words, trust me, I've lived with him for 16 years.

"Psych paper." he explained, causing all of us to nod in understanding.

"Hey, the deputy searched the car, no slugs, no exit hole." Stiles announced, changing the topic of discussion to what had occurred last night. "The address Alex gave my dad, it's an abandoned house. Come on, missing parents, suspicious guy on horseback, magic bullets, who's coming with?" Stiles asked, as if he was proposing a fun night out on the town.

"I've got to retake my yearbook photo." Malia declared.

"Yeah, not interested." Lydia added.

After being turned down by the two girls, Stiles turned to Scott.

My brother shook his head, a look of guilt on his face. "I can't miss any more classes-"

"Scott." Stiles pleaded.

"I missed 38 classes last semester and Lydia's mom is the only reason I'm still in school." Scott admitted.

"You know what?" Stiles said throwing his hands up, "Forget it, I'll take Liam."

Liam's eyes grew wide as Stiles focused his gaze on him, "Come on little buddy what do you say?"

"I have class!" Liam argued. "I can't miss this lesson, I need good marks."

Stiles narrowed his eyes as he shook his head. "You're in sophomore year, marks don't even matter - you know what never mind."

I let out a little laugh, that was until Stiles looked over at me, a large grin covering his face. "Sydney will come with me, Sydney goes everywhere with me because she loves me. We're two peas in a pod."

"No we're not Stiles." I rejected. "And besides I have class too, school matters to some people remember?"

"All of you are useless. Come on have a little-" he was cut off by the warning bell, signalling we had to get to class.

I gave Stiles a sympathetic look before following suit of the rest of the group who were gathering up their stuff to get to class.

"I hate this class." Liam groaned as the two of us walked towards our physics class.

"You only hate it because our teacher's hot and it makes you jealoooous." I teased.

"Yeah," He scoffed, "and you only like it because our teacher's hot."

I fake gasped as I placed my hand over my heart, "I am offended that you think of me like that. Maybe I am just a big fan of physics."

"Doubt it." Liam sulked as we took our seats in class.

Halfway through the lesson I finally understood why Liam hated this class so much. Every single girl -with the exception of me and including Corey- was giving our teacher googly eyes, either that or they were just really interested in Schrodinger's cat.

"Putting aside the potential animal abuse here, what does this have to do with physics?"

I, along with every other girl rose their hand. Mr. Douglas looked around the room before stopping on me, "Yes, Sydney."

"It illustrates the concept of quantum super position. Light is both a particle in wave until it's observed." I answered, smiling in satisfaction that I actually knew what the teacher was asking.

Mr. Douglas let out a small laugh, "Uh, yes, perfect answer, very impressive. Does observing something change its behaviour or does it alter its outcome? That's the question of today's lab on page 117. Let's break up into groups of 4.

I could feel Liam staring at me, so I turned to face him, "What?"

His face was covered by a scowl, "You just really love physics huh?"

"I knew the answer!" I argued. "Did you just want me to sit here and not say anything?"

"Uh, let me think-yeah, yeah I did." he whispered, shooting me a glare.

"Have you guys noticed none of our phones can geolocate today?" Mason asked, breaking up the small bickering fight Liam and I were having.

Liam and I shared a final looked before we both leaned forward to look at Mason's phone, "It looks like it works." Liam commented.

"Yeah, but that's not north." Mason explained looking down at his phone and then back up at us, "That is."

"It's happening to me too." Corey piped in.

Mason looked up at Corey and then to the front of the room where there was a closet, a mischievous look on his face, "Mr. Douglas has a compass."

Corey looked at the closet and then to Mason, a smile on his face as he placed his hand on the textbook, instantly disappearing. The remaining three of us watched as the door to the cabinet slowly opened and then closed, Corey then appearing in front of us, the compass in hand.

"So what exactly are you planning on doing with it?" I asked as Mason opened the little gold compass.

"Follow it."

"Where do you think it goes?" Corey asked.

"I don't know, but we won't find out until we open the box." Mason replied, causing me to let out a little laugh. Corey looked at the three of us in confusion.

"Schrodinger's cat?" I asked, hoping he would figure it out on his own.

"I still don't get it."
