44.
I anxiously tapped my foot as I slumped further down in the waiting room chairs. Stiles sat beside me, nervously rubbing his hands together.
It was late in the night when I had received a text from my mom, letting me know that Sheriff had been injured and it was bad. I had looked into Scott's room, hoping we could go to the hospital together, but there was no sign of him. So, I had driven myself, which resulted in me being the only one waiting with Stiles. I truly had no idea where my brother was, but I was hopeful he would show up for his best friend.
"He'll be okay Stiles." I promised, reaching to grab his hand and give it a quick squeeze.
"You don't know that." His voice came out as a whisper, as he turned to look at me, his eyes glassy.
"Stiles, if anyone can make it, it's your dad." I announced. And that was the truth. Sheriff Stilinski was like a second father to me (better than my real one), and he was one of the strongest people I knew.
"What if he can't?" Stiles questioned, "He's all I have Syd."
"That's not true." I mumbled turning to look at him. "You have me, and Scott. Malia, Lydia, Kira, Liam, my mom. You have all of us Stiles."
He shook his head as he looked down, "I'm not too sure I do."
I furrowed my brow in confusion, Stiles closed his eyes signalling he didn't want me to keep talking, so I didn't. Instead I closed my eyes as well, my hand still grasping his.
It must have been close to an hour later when my eyes slowly opened as I felt Stiles sit up. I lifted my head off of his shoulder and looked to my mom who was kneeling in front of us.
"He's okay." she said softly. I felt Stiles let out a sigh of relief beside me. "Dr. Geyer is stitching him up right now." She continued.
"I want to see him." Stiles announced standing up from the chair.
"Okay, slow down." My mom instructed lightly pushing him back into the chair, "The anesthesia needs to wear off."
"Okay, but everything's going to be okay though?" Stiles clarified, his eyes hopeful, "He's going to be okay? "
"He's going to be just fine." my mom said with a smile.
"Oh thank God." Stiles sat back, tears brimming his eyes.
A relieved smile spread onto my face as I leaned over and gave Stiles a hug. His arms wrapped tightly around my waist. "Thanks Syd."
"For what? " I asked quietly.
"For everything."
I didn't know if he was talking about tonight, or what happened with Donovan, but either way I wrapped my arms tighter around him.
---
"He was fine and now it looks like some had taken a baseball bat to his neck!" Stiles' voice rose with every word.
When Stiles and I were finally allowed to go see Sheriff, we were not expecting what we saw. Sheriff's neck was covered in black looking veins. Stiles had confronted Dr. Geyer in a rage, and so far it wasn't going very well.
Dr. Geyer let out a small sigh as he lifted his hands to calm Stiles, "It might be minor internal."
I turned to look at Liam's step father, opening my mouth to ask him a question, but Stiles quickly cut me off. "How could it be minor if it's internal? When is anything internal minor?" he shouted, "Somebody needs to tell me what's happening, somebody need to tell me what's happening to him!"
"Stiles." I mumbled, placing my hand on his arm softly, trying to calm him down.
"We don't know." My mom admitted.
Stiles eyes seemed to fill with anger as he looked past my mom, down the hall. I looked down the hall, noticing that what had grabbed Stiles' attention was my brother, lingering outside of Sheriff's room.
I watched in horror as Stiles took off down the hall, taking a hold of Scott's jacket and slamming into the wall, and then onto the floor. "Where the hell were you?" he demanded, "You said you trusted me so where the hell were you Scott!?"
"Hey!" my mom yelled running after them.
"Stiles!" I shouted as Dr. Geyer and my mom pulled him off, a security guard grabbing Scott.
"Just calm down." I ordered as Stiles struggled against Liam's stepdad's grip.
"Okay, okay." he sighed as he stop resisting.
I looked over to my brother who looked worst than he did when I last saw him. His face was pale, and his breaths were ragged, a spot of blood leaked through his white shirt.
"You're dad's not the only one who got hurt." Scott pointed out.
"Oh you'll heal." Stiles snapped.
"I'm not talking about me." Scott mumbled pulling his jacket to cover the blood.
"Who's hurt? " I asked concern lacing my voice.
Scott let out a sigh, "Lydia."
"Where- is she here?" I asked
Scott nodded solemnly, "She's upstairs."
That's all I needed to hear. I took off towards the elevator, as I slipped inside, Stiles joined me.
"I'm going to kill him." Stiles announced subconsciously hitting his first into his hand.
"Who?" I questioned, afraid he was talking about Scott.
"Theo." he answered, "He did this, he did all of this." he turned to look at me, his eyes falling on my neck, "I'm sorry he hurt you." he whispered, acknowledging the bruises for the first time since I arrived.
I shook my head, my hand subconsciously touching the marks, "I'm alive." I answered, "You don't have to worry about me."
Stiles looked like he wanted to say something else, but before he could the elevator stopped on the fifth floor, both Stiles and I stepped out.
"This way." Stiles instructed, leading me to the room Scott told us.
"You can go see her first." I said quietly as we arrived. I wanted to see Lydia, but I knew Stiles wanted to see her more.
Stiles gave me a look as if to say "you sure?" I nodded, and he gave me a small smile before disappearing into the room.
It was only a couple of seconds before I heard yelling. I stuck my head in to see Ms. Martin yelling a Stiles. "You're not coming in here, get out!"
"Just wait!" Stiles pleaded, "I think I might known who did this." Stiles explained, motioning to Lydia.
"I know who did this. You! All of you!" Ms. Martin yelled pushing Stiles back.
"Hey!" I snapped rushing over to the two. "Just let us help!" I begged, trying to pry her off of Stiles.
"Both of you get out!" She hollered.
"Ms. Martin, please just listen to me, you've got to check the back of her neck!"as the last word left Stiles' the door was slammed in our faces.
---
"It could be a side effect of shock." Parrish suggested.
After being kicked out of Lydia's room, he, my mother, Scott, Stiles and I were all gathered in the morgue, discussing the possibilities of what was going on with Lydia.
"She's catatonic, it was Theo digging his way through her mind." Stiles noted.
My mom shook her head, "Why would he do that? What is he looking for?" she questioned.
"Same thing he's always looking for," Scott explained. "An advantage."
"So what did he gain from trying to kill Stilinski?" Parrish questioned.
"He left Scott alone with Liam. He wanted to make sure no one would stop him from..." I trailed off not wanting to finish the sentence.
"Killing me." Scott finished.
"He used my dad as a distraction." Stiles concluded, hate and anger dripping from his every word.
Parrish's eyers were wide at the realization of everything Theo had done, "We need to find this kid!"
"Isn't that a little dangerous?" My mom questioned, "Considering he already tried to kill both of my kids." she pointed out.
"He said he didn't want my dad to die." Stiles confessed.
"And you believed him?" Parrish scolded.
"He told me where my dad was," Stiles continued, "Maybe he knows how to help him."
"What do you want to do? Talk to him?" My mom remarked.
"If it saves my dad then yeah." Stiles concluded.
"I'll go with you!" Scott offered, "He doesn't know I'm alive, maybe that will give us an advantage."
"I just need to talk to him, not fight him." Stiles pointed out as he walked towards the door.
"Stiles you can't go alone!" I called, nerves dripping from my words.
"Does anyone even know how to find him?" Parrish asked.
"We don't need to find him, he'll come to me." Stiles announced, turning toward the door and leaving-alone. Exactly like I had just advised him not to do.
"This is not going to end well." I mumble, worry overtaking me.
"You're right," Scott nodded, "And that's why you're going to go home."
Usually this was the point where I would put up a fight, but at this point I was way too tired to do so.
"Okay" I sighed "Just let me know if anything happens."
My mom smiled at me as I give her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Be safe." I pointed at Scott, earning a small chuckle from him.
"Yeah, you too."
---
The minute I get in the car I decide that home is not where I want to be right now. There's someone I need to talk to first. As I pull out of the parking lot I turned towards the other end of town.
As I park my car in the driveway nerves coiled up in my stomach. I wasn't really sure why, but they were there. A yawn escaped my lips as I raise my hand and lightly knock on the door.
It took a moment before the door opened, but when it does I was met with a confused looking Ms. Dunbar. "Sydney?"
I gave her a small smile, "I'm sorry to bother you, but I was hoping I could see Liam?" I asked, shifting my weight from one foot to another.
She gave me a warm smile as she moved aside, "Come on in." she announced, as she fiddled with her necklace. I assumed she was getting ready for work.
"Is everything okay?" She asked, glancing towards the clock which read 7:00am.
I nodded, giving her an assuring smile, "I just need to talk to him." I promised.
"He's in his room, I think he just got home." she explained, "He stayed at Mason's last night." she added.
I resisted the urge to laugh. Liam was most definitely not at Mason's last night. Because last night he was trying to kill my brother.
I give her a grateful smile as I walked by her and towards the stairs, stopping at Liam's door before lightly tapping my knuckles against it.
It opened in seconds and I was met with the familiar smell of his cologne.
"Hey." I breathe, my stress already fading at the sight of him.
Liam looked slightly taken aback, but nonetheless, a smile formed on his face, "Hey." he whispered, stepping aside to allow me to walk in.
I took a seat on the edge of his bed as he sat down beside me, worry filling his eyes as he studied my face, "Everything okay?" he questioned.
I turned to look at him, tears filling my eyes as I shook my head, "No." I admitted, letting out a quiet sob. Liam's sad eyes met mine as he pulled me toward his chest. We were silent for a moment, the only noise being me sobbing into his t-shirt.
Finally, I spoke, but barely managed a whole sentence, "Stiles' dad, and Lydia, they're-"
Liam nodded, not letting me finish, "I know," he whispered, "My dad called me."
I lifted my head slightly so I could see his whole face, "I'm sorry." I mumbled, more tears welling in my eyes.
Liam's face clouded in confusion, "For what?"
"All of this." I breathed, sitting up, "If Scott didn't bite you then you never would have been dragged into this."
A small smile came to his face as he shook his head, "If Scott didn't bite me I never would have met you."
I leaned back into him, a smile coming to my lips as I felt my eyes begin to flutter, the exhaustion finally getting to me.
Liam leaned back so we were both laying down, me against his chest, " "Go to sleep Syd."
So I listened.
