31.

I stood in the police station with Scott and Stiles, watching as Stiles' dad got ready for his "big date". The only reason I was here and not with Sophia (who still had a hundred questions about the supernatural) was because Sheriff wanted a female's perspective on his look.

"I should have cut my hair." he muttered to himself as he attempted to smooth out his hair.

"You should be happy a person your age still has hair." Stiles pointed out.

Sheriff Stilinski looked up from the tiny mirror in his hands to glare at his son.

"Well, I think you look great." Scott admitted.

"Me too!" I added with a smile.

"Thank you, the children I should have had." Sheriff said glancing towards Stiles.

After a brief moment of silence, Sheriff began to loosen his tie, "What the hell am I doing? this is a terrible idea."

"Dad!" Stiles said grabbing a hold of his father's shoulders. "It's one date, the town of Beacon Hills won't implode while you're out with one woman." he paused before adding, "or man."

"It's a woman Stiles."

"Okay." Stiles conceded, raising his brows at his father.

"A very beautiful woman." Sheriff added.

Stiles narrowed his eyes, "What beautiful woman by the way?"

"None of your business." Sheriff announced,  "That goes for you two as well." he said looking over to Scott and I.

I raised my eyebrows and smiled.

"I wanna know." Stiles mumbled.

The yelling of Sheriff's name drew all of our attention to a kid, maybe a few years older than me who was just outside of Sheriff's office.

"Who the hell is that?" I asked walking over to the door.

Sheriff put his hand on my shoulder as he walked past me, an unamused look on his face.

"I'm going to kill you!" the kid spat.

I peered out from behind the boys to see who this kid was. His eyes locked with mine for a brief moment before they snapped back to Stilinski.

"Donovan, you think that shocks me?" Sheriff shot back,  "I remember it was well documented, your anger expression inventory. Deputies escort this prisoner out."

"I'm not angry like I'm going to throw a brick through your window." Donovan spat,  "I'm angry like I'm going to find you, I'm going to get a knife and I'm gonna stab you with til you're dead. And when you look at me, and you ask me why, remember right now. Cause this is why."

"Wow that was awesome." Stiles mocked, clapping his hands together.

I furrowed my brows as I hit Stiles across the chest. "Shut up." I hissed. I won't lie, this Donovan kid was freaking me out.

He ignored me. "That was awesome, that was great. Can you give us another one, maybe give us Christopher Walken this time."

When Donovan didn't say anything Stiles continued. "Okay, you know what it's fine, you'll have plenty of time to work on it while you're in a tiny little cell, you know? Just stuck there forever."

I gave Stiles a look, trying to tell him to shut up, but obviously that didn't work.It seemed like Donovan was going to let it go before he lunged towards us.

"Get him outta here!" Sheriff yelled.

Donovan struggled against Clarke and Parrish as they dragged him out.

"What the hell is an anger expression inventory?" I asked as soon as they were gone.

"It's a test you take when you're applying to be a deputy." Stiles replied.

"That kid wanted to be a cop?" Scott asked, surprised.

"At least now he's getting to full law enforcement experience."

Tiredly I flipped through the pages of my history text book, trying to get my homework done. Scott and Stiles had dropped me off at home, after Sheriff had called them saying something had happened. Scott of course wouldn't let me come, so here I was alone on a Friday night.

I was fully awake as the loud ringing of my phone filled my room. I checked the screen to see that it was an unknown number, I hesitated before hitting accept.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Sydney? It's uh, it's Holden. From school." the voice on the other end said.

I knit my brows together as I set my pencil down. "Hey," I greeted, trying to figure out why he was calling,  "What's up?"

"Well I was just wondering if you were done the history homework." Holden answered, his voice slightly shaky.

I let out a small laugh, "I'm doing it right now actually."

"Oh perfect," he breathed,  "So I was thinking maybe we could work on it together?"

I glanced over at the clock that read 7:30. I barely knew this kid and he wanted to have a study group at 7:30 at night.

I thought about saying no, but decided I really didn't have anything better to do. "Sure." I finally answered, "Wow about we meet at the 24 hour diner in town." I suggested.

"Yeah, sure sound great! I'll see you there." Holden replied, his voice no longer sounding worried.

"Great," I smiled, "Oh, and Holden?"

"Yeah?" he questioned, his voice slightly muffled as if he was moving around.

"How'd you get my number?"

"Oh! Liam gave it to me."

---

"World war one was 1914-1918 right?" Holden asked, looking up from his notebook to meet my eye.

I nodded as I took a sip of my milkshake.

"I'm never going to remember all these dates when the test comes." he groaned, throwing his head back.

I gave him a small smile, "Come on it's not that hard."

"Says you, you're like a genius!" he shot back.

I laughed as I looked down at my notebook. I wasn't really sure why Holden had invited me here, whether it was actually for school or something else.

After a moment of awkward silence Holden spoke up, confirming my earlier suspicions, "So you and Liam, are you two... together?

I felt my face flush as I shook my head slightly, "We were." I answered, giving him a firm smile, "We broke up a few months ago."

What Holden said next made my heart skip a beat.

"Good."

"Tracy wasn't just having trouble sleeping, it was a real disorder-night terrors." Lydia explained.

The other night when Scott and Stiles had dropped me off at home because something had happened, turns out that something was that prison van transporting Donovan was attacked. Tracy's dad, who was also Donovan's lawyer, had been killed, meanwhile Donovan had escaped custody. Luckily Scott found him, but he was really messed up about something.

So now, here we were, by the buses having a pack meeting. Mason and Sophia were here as well, both of their eyes wide with awe.

"Yeah and now she's the night terror." Stiles announced, "Especially considering no one can find her."

I looked around the group, "So we really think she killed her father?" I questioned, "While she was asleep..."

Lydia nodded, "I don't think she knew what she was doing." she answered.

I rose my brows, "That almost makes it worse." I murmured, terrified at the prospect that she could strike again.

"Okay," Scott sighed,  "I know we're all tired and miserable." he acknowledge before turning to Sophia and Mason. "Except for you two."

"Oh I'm sorry," Mason breathed,  "This is just all so mind blowing." he explained, Sophia nodded her head in agreement.

Both Liam and I winced in slight embarrassment.

"You're a kitsune." Mason said to Kira. "I don't even know what that is!"

"I'm still learning." Kira said shrugging.

"We said you could tell them, not invite them into the inner circle." Stiles muttered  to Liam and I.

"Well-"

"We're in the inner circle!" Sophia gasped.

"No!" we all said at once.

"Guys look, back to Tracy." Scott announced,  "She's just one lone wolf. We can find her."

"One lone serial killer wolf." Malia added.

"Well she only killed one person. The other two were mauled." Stiles corrected.

"But isn't that still-"

"Shhhh." Stiles said cutting me off.

"Intense." Mason muttered.

"Guys let's concentrate on catching her first. We'll figure out the rest later." Scott advised.

As the rest of the group split off, everyone heading to class, I grabbed a hold of Liam's arm, stopping him from leaving. He turned to look at me in confusion, "What?" he snapped.

I glared at him as I released my grip on his arm, "Why'd you give Holden my number?" I questioned.

Liam's face clouded in confusion as he shook his head, "Who the hell is Holden?"

"Oh," Sophia chirped, stepping into the conversation, "That was actually me."

I turned to look at her in shock, "Why did you do that?" I demanded, letting out a small groan.

She shrugged, "Why not? I was trying to help you move on."

I felt my face turn red as I stole a glance at Liam, the exact person I was trying to move on from. He turned to look at me, his brows raised, "Wow, Sydney. Theo and Holden, way to go." he whispered condescendingly before turning and joining Mason.

I groaned as I looked over at Sophia who was grinning, "Theo?" she teased, grabbing my arm as we walked back toward the school.

"Next time," I began, sending her a scowl, "Maybe ask before you give my number out."

She sighed, "Well if Liam is moving on maybe you should too."

I pulled my arm from her grasp, shooting her a confused look. Her face fell as she gave me an apologetic look, "I just saw him with the new girl- Hayden." she explained.

I nodded, my eyes falling toward him as he walked ahead of us, "Well, good for him." I mumbled.

And although I tried to be mature about the situation, I couldn't help but feel my heart break.
